I came in expecting slow service, but after 45 minutes of waiting I was getting antsy and so decided to inquire. Apparently they lost my ticket! They were really nice about it and offered free cookies and gelato, but it still soured my experience. The food itself was just ok. I got the tidewater which is essentially just country ham on top of chicken salad. The ingredients were quality and tasted good, but the sandwich wasn't very well crafted. They either need to decrease the amount of chicken salad or increase the amount of ham, because the ham was there in appearance only. Also, the sandwich had way too much dressing on it, which also wasn't doing it any favors. What I did like about the place was the vibe. That, and the flavored tea options. It would be a really great place if the sandwiches and service were decent. I'll be back, but they really need some time to work out all of the kinks. read more

Really REALLY excited to have found this spot! We were able to bring a big group and all sit together immediately! The food came out fast, and was SO delicious! Everyone at the table got something different and there were no complaints! Can't wait to go back and try more. Also not bad having a mini grocery to get something for dinner while your there. Can't wait to go back and try the gelato! read more

Worst sandwich ever! Asked the gentleman behind the counter which was better, The Princess Anne or The Inlet (both good vegetarian choices). Without hesitation - he said the Inlet was amazing. Ingredients: INLET (V) Mozzarella, tomato, fresh basil, balsamic vinaigrette, basil mayo on ciabatta (add prosciutto for $1.99) Cost: $7.99 Awesome. Of course it was to go, so the lame sandwich wasn't discovered until reaching my destination. What I was excited about is their photo of what The Inlet should be. What was made for my order is on the right. Like I said, lame. This was not our first disappointing experience ordering sandwiches from Taste, but it wIll be our last! read more

First time visitor... Atmosphere-open and inviting; contemporary decor; nice place to get some work done or even read a good book. Food-Good variety of unique prepared foods, beer, wine, desserts, cheeses... I had the Chicken Parmesan on Ciabatta. The sandwich was cold and the mozzarella was not even melted. They gladly heated it. However, it was just plain bland. Conclusion-I won't go out of my way to return for the food but in fairness, I will try something different next time. Clearly, there has been a significant investment made and I wish it well. I look forward to an opportunity to upgrade my rating. with a return visit. read more

We ended up eating here because of the wheelchair accessibility. It is more of a sandwich place. Least expensive sandwich is 7.99 going r O 12.99. There is a kids me as well. I ordered the French onion soup for5.99 a cup. And I got the house salad for 7.99. The salad came with two good sized pieces of French bread I left full and did not finish my meal. It is packed to go when you receive the food I'd recommend for a satisfying meal for a lunch read more

Pretty good food, but insanely over priced. I used to SWOON for their blackened tuna wrap and didn't care how much it cost, but then they took it off the menu and I almost had a meltdown. I now refuse to go back. Not an excellent place for pescatarians... or people who know what reasonably priced food is. read more

I love TASTE. Their sandwiches have entranced me since I lived in Norfolk four years ago. My husband and I would regularly drive down from richmond to Hampton roads to grab a sandwich on a Saturday afternoon. We were thrilled when they announced an RVA location. That said... it has been a few months and the kinks have not been worked out. The sandwiches are still great, food wonderful, the people working are friendly...but the service is slow. We have been both when they have been packed (it took upwards of an hour to receive our meals), and when it has been slow (4 customers in the shop, 20+ minutes to receive two breakfast sandwiches). I will keep coming back, but only when I have at least an hour to spare... TASTE - please get your service together! RVA wants to love you. read more

It is a Friday night after a long week of laboring away doing data analytics. I made a commitment to meet up with my gyms social group here after work, and while I dreamt of sinking into my couch and watching Friends for the 4th time, I decided I would honor my commitment and attend. It was my first time at TASTE and I had no idea what to expect. Walking in, I was taken aback by the setup and pleasantly overwhelmed by their options. It is set up as a artisanal market with an area to order draft drinks as well as made to order food. I was pleasantly surprised with their happy hour offerings and they had a good discount on beer as well as a decent selection. I quickly ordered a draft beer and downed it within minutes so I would feel more comfortable interacting with these "gym people." I then went ahead and admired their selection of canned and bottled beer which was both inexpensive and extensive. After decided to go with a fruity wheat beer I walked up to the register and paid and then perused the menu. I was pleasantly surprised at the offerings and there was a plethora of food I wanted to try. Despite my desire to eat nearly everything on the menu I passed because I wanted to drink on an empty stomach so the alcohol would hit me as hard a possible. Overall I really enjoyed my time at TASTE and look forward to going back for food or even just picking up something from their little market. P.S. They do have a parking lot around back and they will validate parking for you on site. read more

Ok so I'm from VB and the land of the original taste location so imagine how pumped I was to find out one was opening here. Lemme keep this short.... walk away. I have placed orders several times to pick up and they aren't correct or are missing items completely. Once they offered to remake my order... ugh sure now that I'm in Midlothian where I live I'll just drive on back?!?! No. Check the receipt with what you're bagging. Not a hard concept. It's not like it's cheap so missing $15 worth of food isn't funny. The hours suck and the service sucks it takes usually an HOUR to get your order and everyone is all over the place. Don't bother. read more

I've loved Taste since they've opened in Richmond! Love all of the options + non-sandwich options too, but once you've found your go-to combination, you probably won't look back. Also love that they offer both a GF bread option but also a GF house dressing -- you can't even tell a difference, it's so good! The only downside is the sometimes long wait, but it hasn't bothered me much as I usually plan to grab a table and dine-in when I visit anyway. Comes with the territory of being so good and popular I suppose, and the employees have always been incredibly kind despite the crowds. I do wish there was a better line structure, as sometimes during busy periods, people get confused on where the line forms and can sometimes be a little bit rude to each other. read more

Consistently delicious and reliable for a great sandwich. Friendly people work there. Their iced tea is great. Mix the unsweet peach and sweet tea together. Their house sauce slaps. It's a popular spot. If crowds and loud noises bother you that much, go during off hours or order ahead online. Sure, if it's crazy busy, they might not get your complicated order perfectly correct. As any human-run establishment may do from time to time. Grow up. This place is great. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich and drink. It was as unique experience that I feel was only completed by sitting in their dining area. The only criticism I have would be the lack of diversity in staff and environment. Look forward to eating here again! read more

Not my first time at a taste. Been plenty of times in Va Beach area. This location is very nice. Huge in the inside with nice seating inside and out. Employees were very nice. The food was pretty good. Very fresh ingredients but just a little pricey. read more

TASTE is an awesome additional lunch spot in the Libbie/Grove area of RVA. They are crafting up some truly unique flavors between the slices. I recommend asking for a side of house sauce to use for extra dipping. If you are familiar with the Cheese Shop in Williamsburg or Take it Away in Cville, TASTE is very similar. This is a spot that will surely become a neighborhood favorite, and I look forward to continuing to explore the menu! read more

The first couple of times that my family went to a Taste location, we really like the variety and the quality of the food and the items in their market area. It seems that over the last two years, each subsequent trip seems a little more bland and a little less enjoyable. It's not bad. It just doesn't "wow" me as it first did. read more

Luckily my first visit to Taste was with someone who had been before otherwise I would have been lost. It is somewhat confusing in there as to how the whole system works but once you get that down there are some great choices. The place was packed so we sat outside and was delivered our food promptly. Everything was delicious. This is a great place to pick up something on the way home or to take to a party or housewarming . Definitely not a date plate . Too much going on. read more

So excited to have one of these in Richmond now! I've been to their Chesapeake location and loved it. When I heard they had opened one near me, I had to go check it out. So, I stopped by today for lunch right around 12:30pm and waited for about 15 minutes to place my order. They don't have a menu on the wall but they have paper menus at each register for customers to grab while you're in line. I ordered the boardwalk without coleslaw and a side of their house dressing with pimento kettle chips. The sandwich was delicious and I dipped every bite into that side of house sauce! Definitely order a side of house dressing with your sandwich! It's so good! I had ordered everything to go but I saw some open seating in the back near the coffee and gelato bar and decided to sit and enjoy half of my sandwich there. I loved looking around at all the local items to buy; they have local peanuts for sampling at the front and they usually have a free sample of one of their local dips near the register as well. It's a very laid back atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and willing to help. Definitely sign up for their free rewards program too while you're at it! read more

Having been to the Taste in the Hampton Roads area, I was excited to hear that the company had opened a new restaurant in Richmond. However, that excitement turned into frustration and disappointment after visiting there recently. My family of three arrived around noon on a Sunday and the restaurant was crowded, but not full. We placed a simple order of two sandwiches and a salad, something that would have been delivered within 10 minutes at a typical Taste. But, not this one. 30 minutes later, our order finally arrived. By then the restaurant wasn't even half full so why such a long wait? Also, we noticed everyone around us was similarly being held hostage, waiting on their food. The food was merely OK, certainly not worth the wait. We left very disappointed and not likely to come back anytime soon. This is a shame because the restaurant itself is quite nice with lots of light and open space. The people who work there were also very pleasant, despite the kitchen's extreme inefficiency. Here's hoping Taste in RVA gets it together soon. read more

I get the bayville farms every time. The French bread is great and the sauce and roast beef combo is great. One of my favorite sandwiches!

I made my first visit here this morning. The atmosphere was really cool. I walked in there and was was amazed how large of a space it really was. It was breakfast time so I ordered the Hector and it was 7.99. When they rung it up it came out to be $9. The quality of the food was good but I would have only paid $8 at the most including tax. I may come back. I just think the prices are a little much. Thank you. read more

If you love salads and sandwiches then Taste is the place for you!!! I always get the Cobb salad and it is DELICIOUS and large. And it comes with a giant baguette piece. Taste also has lots of great to-go salads and sandwiches , baked goods, gelato, drinks, wine, nuts and dips. Their stuff can be a bit pricey considering it is not a sit-down waiter service restaurant (it's about $12 for a salad) but I like to treat myself to it because it is super yummy! They have both indoor and outdoor seating and comfy sofas to sit on as well :) read more

I really wanted to like this place. The food is decent. Food is fresh so that's a plus. Richmond is very spoiled with a lot of wonderful food choices so it takes a lot to stand out. My main gripe is about the lack of service and organization. We placed a pick up order for a certain time well before the designated pick up time. They hadn't even started the order when I arrived and blamed it on a printer issue. I had to wait 30 minutes for one salad and two sandwiches. Perhaps it's just me but when you order ahead and put in a time for pick up, it should be ready, yes? read more

Taste is a well run operation that always hits the spot. Get anything with the House Dressing and you will be pleased. Great for a quick lunch during the work day. This location is similar to other locations but has it's own character as well read more

The food at Taste (sandwiches, dips, soups, bread, etc.) is, in my opinion, above average for a sandwich shop. But the amount of time a customer must wait for a sandwich to be made is ridiculous. I came in around 3:00 p.m. on a weekday to grab a late lunch hoping the place would be empty, which it practically was. There were maybe 4-5 other customers in the entire store and only one person placing an order ahead of me at the counter. I ordered a sandwich right off the menu (nothing custom). It took almost TWENTY MINUTES to make the sandwich. If they were slammed busy, that'd be one thing. But there was barely anyone in the store and no one seemed to be in much of a hurry to do anything. read more

I recently discovered Taste while doing a little shopping in the area. We just wandered through and admired all of the yummy options and attractive space. I picked up a takeout menu and decided on Taste for the next weekly team lunch I provide at work. After gathering everyone's requests, I placed the order online, which was quick and easy. There is plenty of convenient parking out back, and my order was waiting and clearly marked when I arrived. My team raved about their lunches- mine was delicious, too. I thought the prices were fair for the freshness and quality of everything I purchased. I will definitely be adding Taste to our rotation of local spots, and I will also make Taste a stop when I meet a friend for lunch. read more

How do they only have 3 stars?! I absolutely love this place. Sometimes the wait can be a bit long espicially when they're busy but the quality and taste (no pun intended) seriously make up for it! It takes a little time to make a good sandwich! The Peter's Pick deal every week is awesome. You can make your own. Or their classic sandwiches are delicious. Then there's the gelato, coffee, wine, mimosas, pastries, gifts, everything! Can be hard to find a seat, again because they get very busy, but worth it or take it to go. Not a ton of kids options but the bento boxes and the PB and J are good. Sundays are definitely the busiest, but love going here on weekdays for lunch. read more

I'm not sure why Taste has so few stars on Yelp. It's a great addition to the neighborhood with plenty of in house and patio seating. And.... dog friendly outside! Wine/beer, dips, chips, sweets, fresh sandwiches, salads- what's not to like!? Granted not every sandwich is amazing, you have to know what to order and if you like your sandwich made a certain way tell them, they will do it. The freemason on a whole wheat wrap and beach club are the best, hands down and you get the most for your buck. Also taste has a rewards program that's free to sign up and once you earn enough points you get a free sandwich. read more

Ok sandwich but Caesar Salad has us sick for 24 hours after. The cinema never made us puke.

We have literally been waiting an hour for four sandwiches. I'm sure they will taste good once they FINALLY arrive.

Horribly slow service. Indifferent staff. Sandwiches are mostly bread and overpriced for the amount of protein and garnish. The selection of market items don't live up to the hype either. The atmosphere is awful, It is a huge waste of space. If you need a sandwich and in the area, go to Libbie Market. You'll feel better about supporting an actual local business that cares. read more

I LOVE Taste (Unlimited)! I've been going to the OG one in Virginia Beach for years and am so excited they brought one to RVA! The sandwiches - great! The snacks and gifts - great! The catering - great! Taste has always been (and remains) my favorite spot for a delish + fresh sandwich AND my go-to for yummy hostess gifts. Pro-tip: they'll wrap your selection of tasty snacks from the shop in a cute little Taste box for a minimal fee. I'm so sad/surprised to see so many poor reviews! Yes, the RVA location is fairly slow by Taste standards (and yes - they should work on that....) but having to wait a bit for a great sandwich hardly merits a 2 star review! If you really can't wait or are that impatient, call ahead for pick-up (or go to McDonald's instead). It's really not that complicated... Ignore the haters and go get a sandwich - it's worth the wait! read more

My wife said the Princess Anne sandwich was 4 star, but her latte and my Garbanzo Kofta sandwich were only two star. The bread of my sandwich was very good, but the rest of it was without much flavor. Writing this is review while waiting approx. 40 minutes for my 2 sandwiches (and still waiting). Smells like good food but if you want a fast sandwich, this isn't the place to come. You'd be better off going to Libby Market, getting the ingredients yourself and making your sandwich in the parking lot. You'd, at least, have your sandwich before the sun sets. Ok, finally received our sandwiches at 2:55 which we ordered at 2:15. Average, nothing to rave about but then that might be because of the amount of time we had to wait for our food. The wait time is enough for me to say "yep I've been there" but the food isn't good enough for me to go back. read more

I'm not sure why some people want to hammer this place right when it opens. It's a great sandwich shop / market, proven by its success in Hampton Roads. 2 out of 5 stars is represented by my total good experiences to total visits I've had at Taste. I REALLY want to like the place. I really do. However, something doesn't quite click with the staff. My first negative experience resulted with my girlfriend and I waiting over 45 minutes to get our food after ordering (they were not super busy whatsoever), only to find out that the staff never put our receipt on the order line. The second and third trips resulted with messed up orders, even after repeating the order back to the cashier when paying to confirm. The food is always consistent and fresh, and the staff truly is friendly, but there seems to be a missing puzzle piece that cannot be found. I pray they can find it to make this place a true five-star (at least four) experience! read more

Meh, we had high expectations and those expectations were not met. The bread was not fresh and the ingredients didn't have much flavor.
