I've just moved here from CA and it's been such a change of scenery! I had this huge craving for Indian cuisine, and back home I would douse everything with a drizzle of tamarind chutney. Tarka didn't happen to have tamarind chutney -- but they had some really great flavors going on in their meals. I ended up grabbing the chicken tikka masala, veggie pakora, and garlic naan as well as 2 of their mango lemonades. delicious! the rice was a little dry, but otherwise, everything was pretty spot on with flavor. Ordered the vegetable samosas and chicken biryani (medium) via Uber eats. The samosas were wonderful and full of flavor. The cilantro sauce that accompanied it was also delightful. The biryani was very underwhelming unfortunately. The chicken was quite dry and the rice lacked moisture and could've used more flavor. The wait was kind of long for the food. My husband ordered the chicken masala, and I ordered the chicken kabob with a side of garlic naan. The chicken masala was really pungent and had a strong tangy flavor. That's one of my husbands favorite dishes at other places, but not so much here. I had to agree with him and they didn't give enough chicken. It was more sauce than anything else... My chicken kabob was great and I have no complaints of the flavor, however I do wish there was a little more on the dish. We also enjoyed the garlic naan, which they used fresh garlic. We were able to try this restaurant after attending a Yelp event, and I'm glad we did. I must say I loved their mango drink and samosas. They were soooo good. The samosas were fresh, seasoned and the crust was buttery and flaky. The juice was quite refreshing as well and almost addicting. Started coming here once the pandemic was over and it's always been a great experience. So I figured my spice level, it's the hotest. It's still not hot enough but it's good enough. I love their paneer saag and their naans are super good. Also their mango lemonade is probably the best type of lemonade I've ever tried. Their service is awesome and they offer apple pay. So.... confession.... I only chose this particular Indian restaurant because all the other ones didn't open until 5pm and I wanted to eat at 4pm. I stressed about doing this thinking should I just wait the extra hour for more authentic higher quality food? Well... I am glad I listened to my stomach and not my brain because this place greatly exceeded my initial expectations. A refreshing not too sugary or rosewatery lassi started things off right. My Doordash order was accurate and well packaged and amazingly still piping hot after 3/4 of an hour. I ordered 3 dishes all at a different spice level just to see what each was like. Mild saag paneer, medium chicken tikka masala, and hot lamb biryani... I HIGHLY recommend going hot with this dish, I have not gotten it this way ever in the past and it gave the rice so much more flavor than usual....will be doing this from now on. The lamb was super plentiful probably more meat than I usually see in this dish from other places. Both the saag paneer and the tikka masala were very flavorful as well and the mild and medium levels exactly what I would have expected. I also ordered garlic naan which could have used more garlic but what was there was at least decent sized chunks of a freshly minced clove. And just because naan and rice were not enough carbs (haha) I also had to try the pav. This is basically a dinner roll but every trip to India I have made involved going to a bakery and watching these pulled fresh and hot out of an oven. I haven't really seen it in most Indian restaurants so for nostalgia purposes I went for it. Soooo good. Sweet, yeasty, warm and buttery it brought back all the wonderful memories of this treat back in Goa. The side of basmati rice that comes with was better than average... moist and fluffy with lots of that exotic flavor I grew up with. What a relief it was to have this experience go so well as I was really craving Indian and wasn't too sure about ordering from a strip mall chain location. My only negative was that I have never been given such small portions from an Indian place. But I feel like the prices reflected that. It was definitely enough for 2 people at least. After reading some tepid reviews about Tarka's inauthenticity, I wasn't too sure what to expect from our first meal here but we were pleasantly surprised. The space is clean, colorful, and casual, and while it may not scream 'Indian Restaurant,' the music and fragrant aromas gently gesture toward what happens in the kitchen. Ordering is a straightforward process - pay at the counter and take your numbered placard back to any table. Our food arrived at the table pretty rapidly, beginning with our samosas appetizers. Filled with a well-spiced potato and pea mixture, these fritters were flavorful but tragically lukewarm. The following masala fries faired far better, tasting fresh from the fryer with a punchy dusting of spice. These weren't mind-blowing in taste nor creativity, but we enjoyed them just fine. I chose the chana masala with rice for my entree and, as with most of the menu items here, the spice level was customizable (mild, medium, or hot). Since so many Yelpers scoffed at Tarka's tame use of heat, I opted for the full-fledged 'hot', and then nervously eyed the two raw jalapeños that topped my chickpea curry mixture. In short, it was incendiary. Even after pushing off the two mocking pepper slices, there were enough chiles mixed into it that got a fine sheen of sweat rolling across my face in no time. Luckily, I love spice and loved it in this tasty dish, but consider yourself warned - 'hot' is truly hot. If I had any complaints, it's that the chana masala was a little too sauce-heavy; I would have loved more chickpeas. Is it completely authentic? No. But Tarka's take seems to be an approachable and casual introduction to Indian cuisine, especially with cute menu items, like naaninis. I visited this modern looking Indian chain restaurant one evening and was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me a little of Masala Wok, but fast forward 15 years. One thing to note, if you're looking for authentic Indian, you won't find it here. It's about as Americanized as you can get. The good news is that it's decent food from the same owners as Clay Pit in Austin. Step up to the counter and place your order. I chose the lamb vindaloo (hot), garlic naan, and mattar paneer. While I waited for the mango lassi to be delivered to my table, I sampled the mango lemonade at the drink station, why not since the cashier gave me 2 drink cups (I didn't order any other drinks) in addition to my mango lassi order. The food was actually good and passable for an Americanized indian restaurant. Usually those two words don't bode well. Like some other yelpers mentioned, spice (heat) is non-existent in their dishes. The hot is a mild, mild is mild, and medium is let me guess, probably also mild. Not sure why they even have 3 spice levels to choose from. Their soda fountain has sodas from Stubborn Soda Company, which are made with cane sugar. I had already had the root beer before, but I tried the remaining selection, orange, pineapple, cola, etc. and wasn't really pleased with any of them. They also had iced tea, coffee, and mango lemonade to choose from. My favorite drink was probably the mango lemonade. Loved the food. It was reasonably priced, hot and spicy ( ofcourse u get to choose the spice level), just the right portions and delicious. Its a bit out of city limits but that's ok, can take the trouble to get there. Service was good and they do have wine, so its a perfect blend of food and drink for a cold evening. PF Chang's of Indian food. Daal was good but other stuff too generic. It's like Pico de gaio chopped tomatoes on an Indian dish. The whole philosophy is to infuse and cook them together. If you are an Indian, this is not for you. This is some sort of a fusion restaurant probably catering to the non- Indian palate. Veg biriyani and paneer biriyani were poorly made. Some sort of uncooked rice mixed with vegetables like zucchini . Small portion size with even smaller raita portion. (Well they gave me two since I asked). Since I was hungry I ordered Samosa chat thinking they cannot go wrong. I was terribly wrong. The kind lady at the counter insisted on knowing how the food was as I remained quiet. The restaurant is counter service, no table service. However, they will serve the food from the pick up counter. Thoughtful but I was in the mood to be waited on after a long work week. We started off with the Naan. It was soft, bread like and served warm. We devoured it and dipped it in our soup. I had the Malligatawny soup. It was a nice thick puree of seasonings, lentil bean and chicken. Think split pea with nice infusions. My hubby had the Madras soup. It had a nice tomato base which was also a nice puree. I liked both soups but I lean more towards the Madras. For my entree I had the Saag. I was expecting a little of a creamy flavor but this dish was a little thicker than Im use to. The spinach was flavorful with just the right amount of spices. My hubby had the Vindaloo with lamb which was excellent. We'll be back when we're ready for Indian food. read more

I decided to check this indian style fast food for lunch today and it was probably a really good decision that I did. Walking in, it smelled delicious and the restaurant was light and roomy. There are outdoor sitting area that has plenty of shades to escape the heat. The restaurant is how I described fast food indian style with plenty of options for both adults and kids. I decided on the Indian style chicken nuggets and fries for the kids and I decided to share a vegetarian dumpling curry with garlic naan on the side and vegetarian Samosas. My son and I both got mango lemonade which is refillable and refreshing. I would start that you have the options to choose mild, medium, and hot, but since I have children, and one of them does enjoy curry, we went with mild. Thankfully it didnt take away from the flavor as everything was delicious. The samosas was a little bit spicy but not as spicy as others that I have tried. Serving is quite large and also the curry we chose was quite rich and creamy. I still enjoyed it but I couldn't eat a whole lot of it. The only thing I wasn't so keen on (and neither the children) was the indian style nugget (the children ate most of the curry shared between my mother and I).. The menu is quite large and it does provide vegetarian, gluten free, and nut free options and description. I would definitely recommend to check it out. read more

By far my favorite non-authentic Indian restaurant (if you're looking for a thali, you're out of luck). I always visit the locations they have in Austin and was excited to find this location opened up near my home in Spring! The food is flavorful and creamy and it is sure to fill you up. You get to choose your spice level for each dish (mild, medium, hot) but personally I don't think any of them are particularly spicy. I enjoy getting the curries and mix it up each time and I love how no 2 dishes taste the same! I recommend coming in a group and getting one of everything and splitting dishes. However when I got to my madras soup I was severely disappointed, I've never had Indian food I didn't like, but this was the funkiest (in the worst way) dish I've ever tasted. I grew up around a lot of Indian cultural influences, though I myself am not Indian. So I have a high standard when it comes to my Indian food. And to me, Tarka seems like a perfect combination of traditional recipes in a hip, trendy environment. The food is always amazing and the service is quick and friendly. They have a large variety of options on their menu, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. Plus, they sell alcohol if you're into that! Their Malai Kofta is truly life changing and my new favorite Indian dish, thanks to Tarka. I had never had it before visiting this restaurant, but I've been here twice now and can't seem to order anything else!! Their food is seasoned well and has a great flavor.
