CorkScrew BBQ - Pulled pork, brisket, a rib with mac& cheese

CorkScrew BBQ

CORKSCREW BBQ is Houston's Michelin star restaurant! It is about 30 minutes drive north of Houston,…read morewhich isn't super bad. They are only open Wednesday-Saturday 11AM-4PM. We came a little earlier and there was already a long line. I heard that if you order in advance, you can skip the line. While you wait, the employees walk around and you can order a drink. Which is nice if you're waiting a while and it gets hot. The employees were all very nice and ambiance is how you would expect a regular bbq restaurant to be. There are plenty of seating outside but limited inside. The seats are all first come first serve, so usually the inside seating runs out first. We ordered 1/2lb ribs, 1/2lb brisket, 1/2lb sausages, and some sides like Mac&cheese, beans, loaded potato, cobbler, etc. total was about $120 after tip. The food was very delicious and worth the drive. Although, I will say that it doesn't taste that much different from my other favorite bbq restaurants. I was still a great experience and very delicious. I highly recommend to try if you're in the area.

Since they were awarded their Michelin star, I've been wanting to try CorkScrew... in particular,…read moretheir beef rib. Beef ribs are my go to bbq protein, and not many places have them. I've tried those deemed "the best," including Salt Lick in Driftwood and Killen's. So how did CorkScrew measure up? In addition to the beef rib, we tried the moist brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. We also tried several sides, including those recommended in the Michelin review: potato salad, mac and cheese, smokey beans, and coleslaw, and I picked up a peach cobbler, as well. The beef rib: STELLAR. This was outstanding with its flavorful bark and an impossibly tender texture that truly melts in your mouth, unlike any other beef rib I've ever had. Easily the very best beef rib, without a doubt. The brisket was delicious, as well: tender and flavorful. The sausage was nothing special... on par with sausage elsewhere, as was the pork. As for the sides, I've never been a fan of beans, but since the Michelin review specifically mentioned them, I gave them a try. I'm a fan! I would definitely order these again. Their smokiness is gently tamed by a touch of sweetness. The rest? Very average. The mac and cheese tasted like the stuff I had in my elementary school cafeteria - very un-special. The potato salad was salty and was missing any semblance of potato chunks. The texture was oddly like lumpy mashed potatoes. But the other surprise for me: the cobbler. This was simply and divinely perfect with crisp, sweet buttery crumble. A wonderful way to end a hearty meal. I'm so glad I ordered our food online for pickup. When I arrived at 1pm, the line was wrapped around the building. Pickup was very easy: I texted them when I arrived, and they replied when they were ready for me to go in and retrieve it. But even if there wasn't a line, I would never eat there: the restaurant is too divey for me: very rustic, picnic-like feel both inside and out, and it was uncomfortably warm and humid (again, inside and out.) The staff was very friendly and cheerful. Glad i tried it, and when i get a hankering for a good beef rib, this is definitely where I'll be getting it!

Tacos were very tasty and fresh with great tasting ingredients. I liked them so much I went the next day. And I'll be back again before we leave town. Nice people, fast service.

I visited this restaurant in City Place one week night and found it to be fairly busy…read more Unfortunately I had just eaten Mediterranean food the night before so I was worried I would only see similar food. Actually, they have a good size menu and have some American options along with juices and smoothies so It made ordering easy. They also have a full bar with several cocktails and mocktails. Inside right when you enter is the actual bar with about 6 seats which were full with customers during my entire visit. Their happy hour ends at 6pm, but I arrived at 7pm so I ended up missing the discounted drinks. I ordered the cod and shrimp pita which ended up being slightly different than the regular gyro. I had to set it down after a couple of bites since the wheat pita bread is much thinner than regular pita bread and it kept falling apart on me. I also added a mango mojito. With a name like Island Grill, I sort of expected to see more tropical drinks or rum-based cocktails show up on the menu, but this was about the only one. Overall, my experience was okay, but I don't know if it was good enough for me to return.

But after that, I have to say that I will say that I like how quick the service was. You can see them making your food fresh after ordering and I appreciate that they tried to move quickly because there were people going in and out on the Saturday afternoon I was there. I personally don't like the thick bread and prefer the pita pocket style of rolls, but that's just personal preference. So I'm not even counting that part of the review. Because I expected it to have the thinner bread, I asked them to cut it. I usually like to have my sandwich cut in the middle, so I can eat half of it while driving since I'm almost always on the go. When they cut half of the sandwich, the aluminum foil bits were inside of the sandwich and that was really annoying because I had to pick off almost half of the sandwich from the ends of the sandwich just to make sure I didn't eat any bits of aluminum foil. I would ask them to either cut sandwiches in half separately before wrapping or have better quality aluminum foil (You can see the aluminum foil in the pictures). The sauce and meat was good and the veggies seemed fresh. I'm not knocking this place down, I'll definitely be back to try out again but just something to be aware of. I think the gyro wrap might just be growing on me. All in all, if you like a fluffy, smaller sanplacedwich like they do up north, instead of a longer shawarma wrap, definitely try this place out!

Ta'bleyah Mediterranean Cuisine - Probably one of the best Mediterranean meals I've had. The workers were extremely nice too. I'll definitely be back.

Our order included brisket, chicken kabab, beef kofta (cut perfectly into two pieces each), rice, grilled vegetables, green salad, hummus, and fresh bread. The food arrived warm, beautifully packaged, and right on time. Delivery fees were very reasonable, and Ramez went above and beyond by setting everything up on the serving table so elegantly, it truly elevated the entire experience. I placed the order on short notice, yet he delivered big results. The meats were incredibly tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The hummus deserves a special mention, it was one of the best I've ever had, and that says a lot coming from someone who is Middle Eastern. Both kids and adults loved the food, and we received so many compliments throughout the night. This was more than just catering, it felt personal, generous, and made with care. Ordering from Ta'bleyah will now be a tradition for us every New Year's Eve. Highly, highly recommend!

Some of the dishes are spicy like the spicy hummus, spicy chicken dish, and their hot sauce. Some of the compartments were not all that hot, like the butter chicken, the day I visited. It was bland anyway, very different than the Indian version, so I don't think heat would have helped much. At the end was dessert time. They have about 5 desserts. I tried the roll with lots of peanuts, the baklava, the sweet bread and the flan. I have to say I liked the baklava the best as I figured I would. Service was friendly though.
