Okay... I'm finally getting to do the review I've been wanting to do. After this review, I'll be contacting the corporate office to file a complaint. That's how BAD of service we got here.
So my son had purchased a couple of Apple items from Target, as a gift to me, and one for his girlfriend. (Same item).
I had no use for what he had purchased, it was some type of modem... and he changed his mind about giving it to his girlfriend (Ended up buying her something more romantic). So- he had two products that valued at $200.00. He couldn't find the receipt, but we figured that at least we could get a store credit, I mean, who can't find "something" at Target... right?
This was during the Christmas season, so we went up to the returns desk and told them we didn't have a receipt but didn't mind taking store credit instead of the original method of payment. The first customer representative told us that we had to go to the electronics section of the store (which was in the very back), and a find a item that totaled $200.00, rather than being able to get an actual store credit. Well... okay. We didn't really want another "electronic" item at that particular time, but if that was the policy, who am I to argue it... right?
My son and I literally spent well over an hour trying to find different types of electronic items that we could use, at the spur of the moment, that totaled the $200.00 exactly, since NO store credit was allowed, and we could ONLY exchange it for another electronic item. (Never had I heard of that policy before... but-whatever).
After an exhausting search, we found enough items to total of the $200. The salesperson in electronics walked with us back to the return desk (in front of the store), gave them the "go ahead"- and then all hell broke loose! First, the returns desk employee who told us to go to the electronics section only, started to do the even/equal exchange, then her coworker asked her what she was exchanging, and she told him. He stated, "oh! That's not allowed! No receipt, no exchange or refund"! What?!??? So they go back and forth for a while, and then I pipe in and say, "look, we've been looking for an exchangeable item for well over an hour, based on what we were told by employee #1. Can we just make this exception, considering this was what she originally told us on arrival, and we've just wasted almost 2 hours here just for a simple return? He (employee #2) says "no. Sorry. Store policy". This- all while a long line has building behind us. So I asked to talk with the manager, who was actually standing there, and she too refused to do the even exchange, despite knowing that at this point we had been there now for two hours! We went round and round... of course I had to tell her that the return employee #1, as well as the electronics employee had both agreed on a "different" policy- etc. she continued to refuse, even though we continued to argue our case! I mean- seriously? They couldn't just easily make an exception, considering we were told different things, and had spent so much time in the store solely looking at electronics, because that's what we were told? The manager was adamant, stating that the employees didn't know any better, as "some of them were seasonal employees". Well, that didn't change our stance... and as we went round and round... she LITERALLY threatened to have us removed from the store for CALMLY arguing our point. We took names, got the number to corporate, and left. On the way home, we stopped off at the Oakland Target, and guess what!?!? Within five minutes- we had STORE CREDIT!
UNBELIEVABLE! Needless to say, we were happy we stopped off at Oakland, but understandably disgusted at the SF Target for being soooo argumentative, and not just making the exception, because in the end... the money was going to be spent at Target, regardless!
What an experience! What chaos! read more
