We just arrived in Rome yesterday around lunch time on a Tauck tour and our tour director, Rudy, had arranged a lunch at this restaurant. It was a great experience. Our party was the first at the restaurant so service was good. The ambiance is also very nice. The menu offers plenty of appetizers, salads, pastas, pizzas and entrees. I started with the Greek salad and it was a very big salad. It had lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and feta cheese. For my entree I had the ravioli stuffed with pears and truffles. It was the best ravioli I have ever had in my life. For dessert, I opted for the Gelato assortment. It was three scoops of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. The perfect ending to a fabulous lunch. My husband had the linguine with shrimp. His dish was also a nice size portion and very tasty. He had the apple tart for dessert and it looked beautiful. The food was on the expensive side, and for my taste it was a bit bland. Overall, it was just average. But the tip hustle review is real! At the end of the meal, our total bill was €129, which already included a €10 service fee. However, one of the staff members told us that if we wanted to leave a tip, we should let him know so he could add it to the card payment. I asked whether the service fee was not already included, and he said that it was "more like a tax," encouraging us to add an additional tip. Because of the situation, we ended up adding another €10 as a tip. Later, we found out that in Italy, when a service fee is already included, tipping is not mandatory. It was disappointing to feel pressured to tip again on top of the service charge. Unfortunately, the way the bill was handled left a negative impression and affected our overall experience. I dined here for dinner a week ago being close to my hotel. It's also near Roma Termini. It is an upscale restaurant with a nice ambiance. I ordered the mixed salad €6 and the seafood with rice entree for €17. I asked for the salad to arrive first. It had sliced cherry tomatoes and corn in with the greens and it was fresh and delicious. I added a little oil and vinaigrette just to bring it all together. The seafood and rice was next. It was a generous serving of its name. Pieces of fish and shellfish were mixed in the rice and sauce and served warm. It was a bowl of satisfying comfort food that I enjoyed. Finally the table service was prompt and professional. Awesome dinner last night. One of my favorite things about Italy is you can just walk into a random restaurant and have some of the best food ever. We just walked here as it was late and this was very close to our hotel. The ambience is very a very clean and modern look. The service was very good. Now the food: Octopus Tomato Soup - 5/5: wasn't sure exactly what to expect. Wow, was this good. The baby octopus was tender and flavorful. The tomato soup was delicious (part of me did want a grilled cheese to be able to dip into the soup ). Minestrone Soup -5/5: how do they get so much flavor in the broth from just vegetables? Our waiter confirmed this was completely vegan. Amazing. Four Cheese Pizza - 5/5: cheese-lover's dream. I don't know what 4 cheeses were used, but the result was a warm, gooey, cheesy perfection. Sauteed Mussels and Clams (then another one with just clams) - 5/5: might be one of the best mussel dishes I've had. The broth they cooked it in was wonderful. My daughter loves clams bit is not a fan of Mussels. The restaurant was kind enough to accommodate us with making a 2nd order of this dish with just clams, even though that was not on the menu. Thank you! Pasta with Prawns and Leek - 5/5: one of the best pastas of our trip. Really nuanced and layered flavors from just a few ingredients. Must try! Pasta with Clams - 3/5: the only "miss" of the night. Thought the dish lacked flavor. Grilled Octopus - 4/5: Octopus flavorful and grilled perfectly. Didn't think the presentation was great and the bed of mashed potatoes was a bit too heavy of a pairing IMO. Tiramisu - 3/5: I'm probably being too harsh but the tiramisu served "pudding"-style didn't do it for me. Excellent food, nice ambiance, but be prepared for the tip hustle. I am a single woman and dined alone. My 50€ + bill had a coperto charge, and an 8€ service charge (my Italian friends assure me this takes care of the tip). My second waiter (not sure why my first one did not present the bill) showed me the charge and pointedly said that the service charge is not a tip and he would not receive any of it. We passed Target and opted to go back as it looked like it would offer a more relaxed lunch. It is about 2 blocks off Via Nazionale. We were seated promptly. The clientele seemed to be local business people including some military. Just before we left, they also welcomed a large Japanese tourist group - they seemed to head off to some private dining area. It was a busy place, but wasn't overwhelmed when we first arrived before noon. I had pear and truffle ravioli. Other members of our group got a pizza and pasta carbonara. The pasta dishes both had good feedback. The pizza was just ok. Prices here were in line with other Rome restaurants, though we usually ate in slightly cheaper places for our lunches. On our 2nd night in Rome, my wife and I dined at Target since the restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel and we were jet lagged. Sadly, we were very disappointed in the overall service and quality of food. The beef carpaccio was chewy and the mussels were not fresh. The veal scallopini was tough and the carbonara was mediocre at best--not what you expect when dining in the heart of Roma. On a positive note, the Amarone was good and fairly priced and our table by the window overlooking the cobblestone street was nice. The service was attentive when we first arrived until a large private party showed up and then the service was basically non-existent. I wish I could recommend Target, but unfortunately, I can't. There are much better restaurant options in Rome. read more

Target was a recommendation for pizza from our hotel close by. My wife was impeccably dressed, as always, and when I realized how classy it was I went back to the room to step up my outfit before dining while she waited with a Negroni. We sat outside and were served by Christian. After perusing the menu and consulting with Christian, we decided upon the Octopus Soprasetta, Pasta Cacio e Pepe, Pizza Marinara and Cod with Tomato, Capers and Crouton. Christian shined as a professional waiter by thinking about which order to bring our the dishes; pizza and octopus first followed by the pasta and cod. We added to that a bottle of Syrah from Lazio and the decisions were made. Everything was great. The pizza thin and fresh, the octopus delicate, the pasta sauce perfectly distributed, the cod perfectly baked and all dishes were generous portions. All of the above was $100 Euro and the service was excellent. We were Christian's last table and learned that he had been on shift for 14 hours and yet he was still professional, personable and accommodating. We came to Target for lunch based on a recommendation. The location - a block away from the touristy area in the direction of the government offices - defines the crowd - few tourists, mostly locals in business attire. We assumed that the bureaucrats should know the good places and were not wrong. The ambience is streamlined and somewhat cramped - "bistro" comes to mind, the food is quite decent, opportunity to watch modern Romans - priceless. The place is definitely not cheap - but is not terribly expensive either. Don't expect Michelin-star service or food, but come here if you are not on a budget (i. e., you are either staying in a neighboring five-star hotel or are on payroll of the government of Italy) and need a good lunch that will take a reasonable amount of time. read more

No, this is not the popcorn-smelling area of the department store Americans are familiar with. But let's use the shooting target analogy for this review. This fine-dining restaurant cannot be seen from a main road, so you have to know about it (or search reviews). The restaurant is very popular, though. We had to book reservations even in spring. It has mixed reviews, but it was close to where we stayed and it was late, so after hunting a bit and gauging the place, we aimed at this spot. Once past the line of sight, we noticed the chic décor, and the clientele appear to be mainly local businessmen and couples, all dressed fashionably well. The only non-fashionable person eating there (besides us tourists) turned out to be the music man. We were the only tourists, or at least the only non-Italian speaking folk. We sat in the only hollow-point left, a table for two, far from the largest grouping (table of six). Review summary: Menu: Cross-hairs (we needed to consult with waiter to figure out what was what). Good range of selection. Food: Bullseye. Delicious food. No misfires for us. No plinking by this chef. We had four rounds: appetizer, salad, main, dessert. Atmosphere: Bullseye. Relaxing. Not so loud that you would need ear-protection gear. Service: 60-point ring. It was slow by American standards, but good enough. Seemed semi-automatic. Olive thing (our primer): Great. Last meal in Rome before flying out the next day. The food was delicious. Prices were a lot less than what we're used to in Los Angeles. We had the Fantasia di Mare, a spread of warm seafood salad with squid, shrimp and octopus, burrata with shrimp carpaccio and truffle, and tuna tartare. The Cacio di Pepe was perfect and accompanied with sardine bruschetta. A bottle of their Moscato paired perfectly with everything. Total bill was 75 Euros. This was easily a $200 dinner where we're from and the flavors can't be beat. This is definitely going to be a spot I hit up next time in Rome. Service was also excellent. read more

The first time, for lunch, I had "Calzone fontina e prosciutto cotto" (Calzone with mozzarella cheese and cooked ham) - It was soooo good! The crust was flaky and the meat and cheese melted in your mouth! The second time, we came for my birthday dinner and I had "Straccetto di manzo rucola pomodorini confit e riduzione di balsamico" (Strips of beef with rocket confit tomatoes and balsamic) - the beef was tender and the flavor was out of this world. If I ever return to Rome (my coins made it into the Trevi fountain so I'm sure I'll be back!), I am definitely coming here again. The waiters were attentive and the atmosphere was classy.
