From the food to the wine to the service we had it was an amazing dinner date to spend my anniversary with my honey. I loved it!

What a dinner. From the moment we came in, all the staff were very attentive. I was struggling a bit on what to order, so the waiter mentioned "why not half and half"? Brilliant! Everything came out presented beautifully as well. Definitely put this on your dinner list. read more

We had the absolute best time at Tarbells! I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and I'm happy I finally had a chance to! The roasted golden beets salad was really good! The fresh herb dressing was really unique and complimented the tastes with the grapefruit and the golden beets! The house main ribbon pasta was in a really light broth sauce and had a homemade chicken sausage with it! The sausages and a lot of great flavor! read more

In two words: truly exceptional! After watching countless episodes of 'Plate and Pour' and 'Check, Please' on Az PBS, we realized that Tarbell's was the perfect spot to celebrate our 5th year anniversary as Arizonan transplants from the Midwest. Mark and his crew (hats off to our server, Fernando) didn't disappoint for a second. After a 90 minute dining experience on his patio, we concluded that our decision was the perfect one for our occasion. Many thanks, Tarbell's, for giving us the experience of a lifetime in a place we call home! read more

In town briefly for my daughter's graduation from GCU and was looking for a good restaurant to celebrate her achievement - wow did I pick a great one! The food was amazing, the service couldn't have been better, and the manager brought out a complimentary delicious dessert as a congratulations treat. What a find! read more

Love Tarbells. Invariably great cuisine, high quality service, smart and efficient servers, with pride in their job. They know their wine, and they know their food. It can be noisy and crowded, but that's indicative of a great place, where people want to gather and eat delicious food in an urban, stimulating atmosphere. I'm also a fan of their creative email marketing. How unusual is that? Their marketing is witty, with clever maxims that make you smile - and are clearly sought out to stimulate the mind. After 30 years, they have not lost their edge - the food and atmosphere remain energized, creative, and high quality. read more

We've come to Tarbell's several times over the years, and the thing that prompted me to add a review is the consistency. Sometimes we go to restaurants and they are great. Then, we return and they're ok. Tarbell's is consistent with EVERYTHING. The parking (seems stupid but yes it's top notch), the greeting... they always make you feel like they've been excited about your arrival! The service is the absolute best we've ever had, my water glass was never empty! Then, there's the food. It's impossible to describe what Mark Tarbell has created with both of his restaurants. My wife and I had the Sea Bass and it was mind-blowing delicious. My son celebrated his 25th birthday and had the pepper steak. Also amazing. It's unique to find consistency in dining, service, and culinary but Tarbell's actually owns this. They make you feel like you're in your own home, and it's like you're part of their family. The ambiance is elegant and friendly. I can't say enough, but just go. Just go and experience this gem in Arizona. Thank you to the entire staff for another amazing evening. read more

The staff was kind and they made it very special for my husbands birthday, but it was the worst food we had ever had that came with a large price tag. With the exception of the shrimp appetizer we did not enjoy anything else. We won't ever go back, but I wish the kindness of service was everywhere. read more

Place is a staple. Mark is truly amazing at the quality of food and service. This gem on 32nd street is a must dine for foodies.

For my mom's birthday, we made a reservation on opentable for dinner at 6:30 on a Friday night. We arrived about ten minutes early and were seated right away. Parking can be a tad bit difficult, but there is the option to valet the car if there aren't any open parking spots. The restaurant itself looks fancy, but upon sitting down, I noticed that the tables are pretty close together, which makes the atmosphere seem loud and crowded. While we were looking at the menu, we were brought out bread with four different toppings. The bread was warm and the hummus was an interesting option to eat with the bread. My mother and I both ordered the seasonal chowda' and it was delicious! The fish was well-cooked, the mussels were delicious, and the broth was so flavorful. Bread dipped in the broth was such a delight! We also ordered the Brussels sprouts as a side. They were definitely charred, but weren't too flavorful in my opinion. My boyfriend ordered the spaghetti and meatball. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly and the giant meatball was easy to eat and there was no need for a knife! For dessert, we ordered the chocolate cake and the apple and cinnamon cobbler. Both were absolutely delicious and we were so shocked that both desserts were on the house for my mom's birthday! Besides the loud atmosphere, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion! read more

I reserved a table for dinner at Tarbell's restaurant. I was promptly greeted and seated with my party. The service was excellent and the food was very well prepared. The overall ambience was great and for my next trip I will try their less formal bistro. After dinner we visited their wine store which was equally enjoyable - they had a very unique and tasteful selection. I highly recommend the Tarbell's experience read more

Excellent food and service. Eat at the wine bar where you can select your wine from the wine store and have it poured without corkage. Sea bass and salmon were excellent, rigatoni tasty as well. Choc chip cookie and ice cream for dessert! read more

Well Came back because enjoyed everything last time. However, came in my sisters birthday and were sat promptly by 730p it's now 925 and no food has been severed. They kept saying that food is coming. I totally understand about a large party- but waiting for food for over 2 hours is completely unreasonable. I don't know if it's the color of our skin but let me tell you I was not impressed! Food was cold and they didn't even take care of any of our tabs or even a free appetizer. We didn't eat till 1030 read more

Tarbell's continues to be top-notch. I have been coming here with my family for at least fifteen years and never had a bad meal. The new addition of the freshly-made, locally sourced ingredients only improves the experience. Wow! What a wonderful experience from the ambiance, to the service, and of course to the food. We are on their new patio because of COVID and it was magical. Plenty of fire pits and heaters to keep us cozy. I had the sea scallops and my husband had the Bolognese and they were both extraordinary. I have dietary restrictions due to allergies and they handled them easily without any fuss or trouble. The manager and the server couldn't have been kinder... they went above and beyond to help make my birthday celebration extra special. We will definitely be back. read more

"Great place for dining solo!" "Incredible food!" "Friendly staff!" "My go-to restaurant on the Camelback corridor." All of these are things that I've heard about Tarbell's time and time again over the years. So, of course I had high expectations going in. So when my friends Jared and Jane B suggested we do a double date at Tarbell's during the recent AZ Restaurant Week, I was totally game. Upon walking into Tarbell's, the hostess was incredibly friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was warm and inviting while still being casual; my kind of place! Nathan was our waiter and he was awesome. He was patient with both my husband and our friend Jared as they went back and forth on what they wanted to order quite a few times. He suggested a great bottle of wine for us also. I was the only one at the table who didn't order off of the restaurant week menu. I went with a Caesar salad to start, the Salmon entree, and carrot cake for dessert. I enjoyed the Caesar salad despite the lack of anchovies (I happen to love anchovies). The salmon was a huge hit -- I think everyone at the table had order envy over it -- but I did share! It was grilled to perfection, topped with a local molasses/lime/honey glaze and served on a crispy potato cake. The carrot cake was good but not amazing. The restaurant week menu that everyone else ordered from had only one starter option: the pulled mozzarella. However, I guess they ran out of it the night that we were there, so the manager came over and offered to substitute with other salad options. This was a huge perk for everyone and much appreciated by our group. Two people at our table had the Bolognese, but they said it was bland. They were pleased with the other desserts (donuts and chocolate mousse). While I wasn't completely enamored with everything, our overall Tarbell's experience was a good one, and I definitely want to return to try more menu items in the future. Double date or biz dinner, anyone? Let me know! read more

Tarbell's has wonderful food, great service and atmosphere. The Spaghetti and Meatball and the cheesecake are both incredible!

Absolutely wonderful place to eat. I was in town for the day celebrating my grandmother's birthday on Monday, and we were so incredibly happy that we chose this restaurant. It is by far the best food I've had in Arizona. The courses just kept getting better and better and the drinks were fabulous. We had the shrimp, mussels and burrata for appetizers. We devoured the chicken, vegan dish of roasted vegetables, and lobster risotto for dinner. They brought out the best tasting mousse and cheesecake I've ever had for dessert. To top it all off, the wait staff was top notch. This will be a must visit anytime I'm back in the area. Highly, highly recommend. read more

When it comes to food for me it is not just about how expensive or Fancy the restaurant might look. It is about how good the food seats on my palate. I asked myself a couple of questions. - Will this food wake up me the desire to take the next bite and then, right after that, each bite gets better? I did not have that feeling there. - Will I find the food my eyes have seen based on the reviews? We went there based on the pictures and all the reviews and what I order was not of available. The servers were very nice and kind. The ambiance was formal. I will not recommend it for families. read more

I have been a patron to Tarbel's for many years.I was looking forward to having dinner there since they reopened during the Pandemic. It impressed me the restaurant and bar were in compliance with the "distancing." HOWEVER, we were disappointed with the food service. I ordered the Meatball! A favorite of mine! It was burnt and sauce burnt! I am still having shard time getting the taste out of my mouth. BILL's Scottish Salmon was good, however served on a very cold platter. The manager, LAUREN, was apprised of the issue and was apologetic re the meal I had. The server did nothing at all to accommodate or express herself to us re this matter. Very unlike the servers at Tarbels..ie Kelly! This was a very unfortunate dining experience . read more

So good! For a restaurant that's been here since at least me (circa 2000), it is fresh and delightful with the kind of earnestness of a new venture. Our server Erin was outstanding. He made us feel important, taken care of and understood. I was craving the Sancerre I had there last week; they aren't serving it tonight. So Erin steered me to a Barbera, and even read my mind that a bourbon ice cube was the ticket. YUM! I already knew I wanted the sole from last week. Little did I realize it was $85 (!), but I had to have it. We shared it and it was divine. Worth every penny! The moules and the rock shrimp didn't float my boat, but the watermelon salad for dessert was fantastic. I already know I'll be back again this summer. Kudos to you Mark, and your outstanding team. Shout out to Josh too! read more

One of the greatest dining experiences ever. I had to change the table on them last minute and they were able to adjust right away. Tarbells is a lovely upscale restaurant. My family and I really pigged out today, we ordered a cheese pizza and the baked chickpeas as an appetizer. As my main course I ordered the roasted chicken (in the picture below). The chicken was fantastic, I would highly recommend it (it takes 4 days for them to make)! My family also enjoyed their meals. My only issue was the dessert menu, they didn't have a classic dessert like cookies, brownies, molten cake, etc. And as we left they handed us small brownies instead of mints, I wish they would have put that brownie on the menu instead. **As a side note, the service was fantastic! Our server was super helpful, nice, and funny. read more

There's no denying Covid has changed restaurants, but some have adapted with breathtaking style. The food was spot on amazing. Hand pulled mozzarella, chickpeas dusted with parmesan , scallops crudo, followed by Chicken fennel sausage pasta in Parmesan broth, mini plates of the risotto and the bolognese, custom vegan gnocchi, scallops, and NY strip were all beyond delicious. But what made this a 5 star nite was the service. Attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and generous. This has quickly become a fav!. Thanks Tarbells! read more

It was my birthday dinner. The front of the house staff is fantastic. Service was fantastic. Kir royale is my favorite drink. I've had them all o wr the world. This was my favorite. His wine selection is outstanding. The escargot was the best I've had, and that is a giant statement. I've eaten it in at least a dozen James beard nominee restaurants. He wins hands down. Our brussel sprouts and Augustin potatoes were good not great. The lamb gnocchi was amazing. My companion loved his scotch beef. If you get the chance to eat here, do it. The awards are well deserved. This is NO emperors new clothes situation. He has a gift. read more

Fresh menu, fresh ingredients, great service. Not much more to say on this one. The visible pizza oven was temping but on a visit for dinner I went for the fish special of the day which was a freshly caught swordfish and was not disappointed. The side bonus (which did not really apply to my menu selection for the night) was also seeing they are open to changing menu items to be gluten free as well. What? Recipes on their website too? Not sure when, if ever, I have seen that before. Before coming here comments from others set the bar pretty high and I would say there was nothing to disappoint that expectation level on my first visit. read more

I had a Magnificent Mother's Day dinner at Tarbell's My son and I started with their fantastic Caesar salad (which they were more than happy to split for us). In fact, the chefs will create anything for you, and the service is impeccable! Everyone is so warm and relaxed. They make you feel right at home as you experience the elegance and evidence of a restaurant owned and operated by an Iron Chef America Champion and all of the national awards. Choosing a wine is effortless since Mark Tarbell is a wine connoisseur (has a wine store next door, writes a wine column) and has the perfect pairings or suggestions. The Gnocchi with Lobster is spectacular! It had the freshest, sweetest tomatoes cooked to perfection, just like the gnocchi & lobster, in a light creamy sauce. Their Créme Brûlée is exquisitely smooth with the perfect amount of vanilla, a flawless layer of caramelized sugar, and big fresh berries. I also have to mention their special touches, like their housemade Tahini cumin hummus and chips, when we were seated, and the individually wrapped lemon cookies as we left. Our friends, who dined there last week, received individually wrapped pieces of banana bread as they left. Tarbell's is very special and innovative, upscale yet relaxed. read more

Have been here for dinner twice now and the service and food have been great both times. Their ribeye is the best we have ever had and we love the filet tartare appetizer as well. Tried the scallop crudo too and it was delicious but very small. We cook a lot of steaks and other meats at home and care a lot about quality and where our meat comes from. Its been hard to find restaurants with good quality food that tastes great. Tarbell's hits all the points. We will be back just for the ribeye..IT. IS. PHENOMENAL! read more
