Tacos here were just okay. Tight interior so a little stuffy. There are many other better options in the city.

As someone who was raised in Southern California, I've always been overly critical of tacos that aren't from California. That said, I haven't been to many Mexican spots in NYC, and with this being one of my first... it's going to be hard to beat. I have a feeling there won't be many places in the city that top this. I've heard these tacos are more reminiscent of CDMX cuisine. I haven't been myself, so I can't fully vouch for that--but I can say I thoroughly enjoyed everything I tried. Highly, highly recommend the al pastor. The pineapple is perfectly sweet and adds such a refreshing bite. Definitely try making one of your tacos a vampiro--basically a crispy tostada instead of a soft tortilla, with cheese. So good. There isn't a ton of seating, but if you don't go super late, you should be fine. Being on MacDougal and open until 2am, I imagine it's a popular late-night spot. Overall, definitely recommend!!

Wow what a spot! Competes with Los Tacos #1. A ton of meat on top. Super flavorful. Great fun toppings to decorate. Very nice and patient workers. Small inside but a lot of stools to sit at.

Got the asada and suadero tacos, and it tasted amazing! Definitely a little expensive for small tacos, but the taste was great. Warning there's not much seating. I came with someone from California, and he had approved it. Would come back if I ever crave. It's also in such a great location.

El Chato is the beesssssst. I haven't had tacos like this in a long time. Ingredients are top notch and the salsas are so freaking good. I love that they have Vampiros which is a hard crunchy tortilla with melted cheese on top and protein of your choice. Super solid!! They're the same size as the tacos but different eating experience. I tried the Suadero Vampiro and the meat was tender and juicy juxtaposed with a crunchy tortilla it was just the perfect pairing. Love love love! As for tacos, I had Asada, Tripa and in the end I got an extra one and I went with Mushroom. All very delicious. Asada is my fave but it's generally my go-to so of course it's a top for me. Tripa is unique.. it's crunchy and salty. Not sure what to compare it to but it's really good. And mushroom wow juicy flavorful, all the good things. Love that they have drink options that aren't sodas. Jamaica hit the spot. You order on the screen at the counter. If it was a busy day I can see how it'll make everything slower. But when we walked up around lunch time, we were able to order right away. Thankfully! The only thing...I wish they had chips. I really love their salsas so I would've loved to continue the meal with some chips after tacos.

Quite delicious tacos with some of the better flavors I've had in the city. came here on a weeknight just before the dinner rush, and were able to order and get our food with no issue. Chic smaller almost taco stand vibe, great watching that al pastor spin! I got a mushroom quesadilla and an al pastor taco. Wow. Love the vegetarian option and that mushroom was quite tasty in the quesadilla. Lots of cheese with tons of sauce - yum. The al pastor was outstanding. In between bites, I was telling my dining companion just how tasty this was. Perfectly seasoned and insanely perfect sauce to go with. I would come back here in a heartbeat and will stop here before going out on the town!

Hands down delicious. Chill vibes, good music, awesome people, great tacos. Can't ask for anything better.

The mushroom tacos were pretty good - fresh tortillas and a flavorful mushroom filling. The vampiro was also pretty interesting - basically a tostada with cheese on top. I liked the salsas available as well, particularly the spicy arbol one. And the grilled onions and jalapenos also made for a nice addition. It's a bit expensive at $5 per taco, but definitely worth a try.

It's a small, but cute space. The chorizo taco was great and the salsas and charred onions and peppers were a great touch!

I was excited to try the new location of Taqueria El Chato, as the other ones are good. However, I was a bit disappointed. At 6:30 on a Thursday, they didn't have the al pastor ready. I was hungry and didn't want to wait around for it, so it was other tacos. I got the lengua and the suadero. The former was a bit dry, but the suadero was good. But their tortillas were pre-made, which was a big disappointment. Can't have a good taco without a good tortilla. And seven bucks for a small taco at that. The service was pleasant enough. But I can't see expensive, sub-par tacos being popular.

Solid tacos...great flavor. The staff and the owner are super friendly. Will visit again soon. Carnitas was my favorite.

The Tripe taco is amazing. 100% comparable and just as good as the tripe tacos in LA. Tripe is not easy to find as a taco ingredient here, so super glad I now have a go-to for my tripe needs. I love how the tripe is extra crispy and there is a self-serve salsa bar. Also ordered the Campechano Vampiro, which was okay. Would come back to order more tripe tacos and try the asada and pastor, even though the meat on the trompo looked low key dry. Not busy at all on a Saturday night in the village. Plenty of open seats for now, but I'm sure there won't be soon once the masses find out. My only suggestion would be to get a screen- like cover for the onions and peppers in the salsa bar as the oil attracts flies. Mexican coke, Topo Chico and Jamaica also available.

This place is the bomb.. Really great Asada.. it's a small little place hidden away on McDougal Street. The guy knows what he's doing and is the real deal. Try out people you will not be disappointed.

The tacos were delicious, tasted like authentic Mexican tacos. V SUADERO T ASADA T TRIPA

This location is convenient to Grand Central, Bryant Park, & Times Square. I was excited to find them after a getting off the Metro North. Unfortunately, the two times that I've eaten there hasn't been great, compared to their other locations in NoHo & Union Square. I'm not sure if the more touristy ambiance & customers makes a difference. First visit got the Pork Adobada Taco ($5-ish). It's similar to Al Pastor (even served with a few pieces of pineapple) but spicy. It's pork marinated in an adobo sauce made from dried red chiles (like guajillo or ancho), vinegar, garlic, and spices. The corn tortilla was very fresh & good but the pork was SO spicy. Some kind of chili oil was drizzled on, in, within, at the bottom. It comes with a sort of green crema. I barely finished - thought it was a joke or something. The second visit I got the Adobada (requested Zero spice) & a Chicken taco. The pork meat was delicious & reminded me of the first time I had Los Tacos No. 1. The chicken seemed like dark meat & was either over-marinated, slightly undercooked, or on its way out? resulting in weird mushy, slightly liver-like consistency. I even picked through the pieces to check for pinkness...the meat was just dark with little flavor. It came with a dollop of guacamole that didn't have much flavor. The corn tortillas also seemed slightly mealy/mushy & underdone. They weren't airy & slightly puffed as usual. I'll probably go back because their location and cost is convenient. But have to make sure the pork has No Spice & not sure how to ask for "done" tortillas. There's always a line at Los Tacos but it moves fast. The condiments & radishes, limes are always fresh. The staff is always pleasant & work quickly customizing your taco, wiping down the All White! hightops & refilling napkins. Don't think there's a restroom FYI.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I managed to choose the two best-sounding items I could find, and honestly, they were so bland I don't even remember what they were. The setup and decor were basic. This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall.
