Carne Asada burrito
Matthew S.

This is not Mexican. This is a burrito bar, actually little more than a stand, with a little extra. That is not to detract how amazing the burritos are. I tried two of them and have the worst hankering for a third. Believe me, I will do it. The two burritos I massacred were the shrimp and carne asada burritos. Both have AMAZING flavor (no rice, no filler), and are incredibly easy to eat. Despite their hefty appearance, they are fairly light, with good air pockets in between the meat and cheese. The burritos are loaded with beans, so be prepared to apologize for your fellow straphangers if you intend to ride the nearby F train after indulging one of these. Actually, no need to apologize, once they see that paper bag with the Son Del North emblem on it.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting with just a bean and cheese burrito but I'm so glad I was very pleasantly surprised by how something so simple could be executed so perfectly. The texture and flavor profile of the beans is so comforting with a tiny bit of heat from the assorted cut up jalapeños in the mixture. It's complimented well by the cheese, but huge props to the tortilla because I'm so happy that they throw it onto the grill to get a little bit of char. It seals off the burrito perfectly so all the delicious goop inside doesn't open and leak all over. The green sauce they make also perfectly pairs with it, introducing a herbaceous, slightly spicy flavor. Incredibly simple burrito but executed unbelievably well!

Son del North is a small burrito place on Orchard Street. when i say small, it's really small--there is one table to stand at outside and no tables inside, just an order counter. ended ordering dinner here for takeout by way of a food app that offered a BOGO for the vegan cauliflower chorizo potato and rajas burrito. my order was on-time and packaged neatly. the burrito uses a Sonoran flour tortilla and is fairly sized and filled generously with seasoned cauliflower, potatoes, and rajas (roasted poblano peppers). the burrito is filling and flavorful. the cauliflower and potatoes are seasoned well. the burrito is on the spicier side which was a nice surprise. the insides is obviously is on soft in texture (soft but not too mushy), but the burrito held together solidly. also comes with a salsa verse dipping sauce which is a nice touch. service is friendly and quick. evenings are fairly busy because of the dinnertime rush, but the staff handle it well. would definitely stop at this Lower East Side location again to try some of the more meaty burrito options.

I wish this place had seating since we had to walk to whole eats to enjoy our food warm. Everything was super tasty and well made. The burritos were cooked perfectly with so much flavor and moistness. Our burritos were practically making juice. It was yummy and their Agua Frescas that aren't pictured were so GOOD flavor was so prominent and I loved the spicyness coming from the horchata with all the cinnamon! Even the Jamacia was so good! Chips from the guac and chip combo were kinda stale and passable. Super yummy food here !

Son Del North 177 Orchard St. New York, NY 10002 Pollo Asado Carne Asada Appearance: 8.9/10 Taste: 10/10 Located approximately 1.5 miles from the Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian walkway is a Mexican spot specializing in Sonoran style burritos. Unlike traditional burritos, these do not include rice. Pollo Asado: This burrito was filled with grilled chicken and strips of poblano peppers. Also included is a cup of salsa verde, which gave it a nice kick. Carne Asada: This burrito may look small in size, but it was packed with protein and flavor. The employee unintentionally gave me green sauce instead of red sauce, but it was still finger lickin' good. What really caught my eye on both burritos was the line of char marks from the grill. The dining section is limited, so I recommend taking the order to go. This location may be a hole in the wall, but its riceless burritos are superior. #sondelnorth #orchardstreet #OrchardSt #CarneAsada #polloasado #SonoranStyle #sonoranburritos #charmarks

Had high hopes after hearing so many rave reviews about son del north. Unfortunately we thought it was average at best. To start off, we ordered 3 burritos. The breakfast burrito, pollo asado, and frijoles con queso. We made the mistake of not checking our order before getting home and realized they forgot our frijoles con queso burrito. Huge bummer since that was the one I was most excited to try, but that's on us for not checking. The tortilla itself on the burrito is great. Super soft and really fresh. That's about the only thing we enjoyed. The pollo asado and breakfast burritos were fine. We've had better at other places in the area. The sauce is ok. I think overall it was just fine, nothing that really wowed us.

I came to Son Del North after seeing all the hype on social media, and I'm glad I did. They are known for their doughy tortillas, and I got their bean and cheese burrito with steak and pico. The place is small, but service was so fast! After ordering, it only took around 5 minutes until my food came. The burrito was great! I typically don't like bean and cheese, but this place is the exception. The bean and cheese had such a good ratio and adding the steak and pico was a game changer to add more texture. I loved how soft and doughy the tortilla was. I also asked our cashier her favorite burrito, and she said the chicken one was her best! Overall, we had a great time and would recommend!

When the scent of grilled meat hits you on Orchard St, resistance is futile. Walked into Son del North and came out with a carne asada burrito the size of a forearm. No tables, no chairs, no problem--real men eat burritos standing up like gladiators. Service? Fast. Price? Fair. Burrito? A high-quality heavyweight contender (though that sauce on the side lowkey stole the spotlight). If you're prowling the Lower East Side and need a quick burrito fix, this spot is a solid move. Verdict: burrito craving--handled like a champ.

The tortilla lives up to the hype. It's probably the best tortilla I've ever had. But the rest of the burrito is kind of lacking in flavor tbh. The breakfast one was really mushy. Wish it had lettuce or smtg. Chicken and steak were good maybe steak was better but just wanted more flavor!!! Also there is literally 0 seating only a small bench inside.

wowwwww i think this is my fav burrito ever, it's truly worth the visit the food: carne asada burrito is THE best option. it's so flavorful and the meat is so smokey, the tortilla is also chewy and perfectly crisp. a dip in the sauce every time makes it perfect!!!! the space: so small, two tiny benches and one table outside the service: not memorable

Bean and Cheese Burrito

Got the bean and cheese and it was fine but just on its own it wasnt really doing it for me. The salsa is where the magic is and with it this burrito is so good, so the tiny little container they give of it is definitely not enough.

CAULFLOWER CHORIZO CON PAPAS (Vegan)

honestly really enjoyed the cauliflower chorizo and potato burrito. it was super flavorful and i added guacamole which gave it the creaminess. I also got it with a side of their green sauce n it hit!!! it was very filling too. wish all the little add ons weren't so expensive but it was one of the best vegan/vegetarian burritos I've had in the city!!

I had been craving burritos for a while now and decided to stop by Son Del North to see of their burritos lived up to the hype. They indeed hit the spot!! I actually love that their burritos are packed with beans and meats without rice. The meat is super well seasoned and had the right amount of fat. The ratio of protein to cheese to beans was well balanced. The tortilla was soft, chewy, and held everything together. The green sauce had a thicker texture with a subtle spice kick. There are some tables and one bench outside. Food came out at a reasonable time. Got my cravings fixed for sure!!!

Burrito was $16, tiny, and 5/10 at best. Chipotle is 20x better. No rice in the burrito either, very moist. Wouldn't recommend. Lo siento

The restaurant is spacious with a vibrant, lively atmosphere. One thing that immediately stood out was the music. For a Middle Eastern restaurant, the playlist was refreshingly diverse. We heard everything from hip-hop and salsa to world music, and it really added to the vibe. Our server, Omar, was EXCELLENT! If you can, ask to sit in his section. He was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and absolutely wonderful throughout our meal. We started with the very popular short rib hummus and homemade pita, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Very, very good! Everything tasted incredibly fresh, especially the hummus and bread, which are made in-house. We also tried another pita topped with spices, which was a little more sophisticated and absolutely worth ordering. For brunch, we tried the Lebanese omelette, which was a little bland for my taste, but the fig toast was a MUST! Definitely one of the standouts of the meal. The chicken shawarma was also very good. For drinks, we tried the Strawberry & Na'a along with one of their bourbon-based cocktails and enjoyed both. Overall, Boutros was such a pleasant surprise. Great atmosphere, fresh food, fun music, and exceptional service from Omar. There's still so much on the menu I want to try, so I will FOR SURE be back!

The Duck fat Batata is just soooo flavorful and wonderful with the toum. The labne is great and with honey just so good. The Short Rib is good on the hummus or in it's own dish. Really flavorful and scrumptious. The soujuk is nice and spicy. French toast at breakfast is also just really quite good. Hard to dislike this place, especially when you open up with such good fresh, hot pita. Cocktails are also good, I really liked the Cloud 9 as a breakfast cocktail, but there's lots of good cocktails and wine choices for dinner too. The service was splendid, but not too much, and the vibes are lovely. You can drop by sahadis after for shopping, and that's always a good idea.
