Growing up in Modesto, SJ Taqueria and Maria's was the place to go to get authentic Mexican food. I havn't been in years, and I am glad I stopped by today. I ordered pick up on DoorDash, and food was ready right when I walked in the door. I ordered the grilled chicken super quesadilla, and it was great! The chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and everything tasted great. My only complaint is how they give you the super quesadilla. It is not cut at all, and shaped like a Mexican pizza. It did make it very difficult to eat, but it was worth it. read more

Beware of ordering Salsa in late evening. Made hastily and not the same. Returning all of it resulted in no refund or correction. Best sample all food and reject if needed on the spot. If refused then complain here. Poor customer consideration by management. Servers are good people. read more

Great true Mexican Restaurant. Have ordered from them at least 5 times now and every time the food is first rate. This time I got the 1 Chile Relleno and 1 Enchilada Plate. They charge ¢50 for a tiny plastic salsa cup of it. Also, the ceviche tostada does not taste fresh and is mostly made from fake crab and not real shrimp. The prices have gone up too. I have been eating at San Jose taquerias in Modesto for many years. I have never had a bad meal from there. Although they are both very good my go-to seems to be the one on coffee road. I always seem to order the asada torta with no lettuce. I am writing this review because yesterday Saturday February 25th 2023 whoever the cook was it was the best torta I have had in my life. This torta was full of meat I could actually taste the melted cheese on the bread and I could see the guacamole it was so juicy and there was actually onions I have never tasted The Onion in the toilet like I did yesterday it was so full of flavor I cannot stop talking about it. This is for the Coffee Rd restaurant. I believe in giving chances but not anymore! They've screwed up our order twice before but was convenient because of location... Less than 5 minutes away. 1st time- Ordered 4 Regular Carne Asada Burritos. 2 without salsa. They put Salsa on all of them. 2nd time- I ordered a plate of Chile Colorado and a container of Arroz (which was not fully cooked... it was crunchy in the center.) I picked up my order... it was Beef Fajitas which I don't eat because of the bell peppers. Called to see if I could return it and get Chile Colorado. They said that They were out of Colorado and substituted Fajitas instead. THAT IS NOT MY ORDER! Management not available. 3rd time... Today, I called in my order of 2 Regular Carne Asada Burritos NO salsa and Medium container of rice. My brother goes to pick up the order. He's told there is no order after waiting 15 minutes! He's pissed off... comes home. I called and asked for manager. He says he's "Sorry" but they're busy. THAT is no excuse. Why not put the order in while my brother was there? DONE with this place! COFFEE RD LOCATION: First and probably last time trying this taqueria. I waited 40 minutes for 4 tacos. Tacos were okay, nothing special about them. I had an order to dine in and was given my order in takeout boxes. They have no limes or condiments on the side. My husband and I have been going to San Jose taqueria for years. I am sad to say that since the pandemic, this restaurant has gone down Hill faster than 4 fat people on a greasy wet mountain road with no brakes. This place used to be good . Customer service is cold unwelcoming and borderline rude unless your Mexican. Ordered a breakfast burrito today and the temperature in the restaurant was low 50s and to top it off they had their fans on at 9am? My burrito had a stale tortilla and the temperature was luke warm and to top it off one HUGE piece of egg shell. The people who ordered burritos after me were steaming hot so they probably gave me left over asada from day before it was 9am and I was the first order. The cook is sloppy clearly serving old meat. I have been coming here for 15 years. And never once have I been asked to pay for pico de gallo. Being charged for chips and salsa when I can go across the street tell Roselle and get them with my meal unlimited is kind of ridiculous. Wasn't told our total by the gentleman who rang us up. The lady behind the counter has a rude attitude stating if they don't want to pay for it they won't get it. I definitely would rather go to the one on Prescott than driving all the way across town for this one thinking it was bringing a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The reason I can't give a great score here is that my order is wrong as often as right. I'm allergic to cilantro and realize I must ask at least.3 times to.have it omitted..once on ordering, once after paying and once aa it is being cooked and packed up as I smile at the chef. If I call it in or have my spouse pick it up like today, I usually get cilantro which makes my dinner almost worthless. You can't pick it out. But the place is friendly, inexpensive, and locally owned.the parking is easy. Access. Casual dress. They have restrooms, but you need a key, and you have to go out back where it'a real secluded. I will continue to eat there on occasion but will try hard to get what I order. I don't think anyone would dislike the food. But like any take out or drive thru you need to check your order before leaving to assure you're getting what you want. read more

Two years lata and I'm STILL loving it here. Always make an effort to stop by when I'm in town. Now, my order is a veggie burrito minus cheese& sour cream. STILL BOMB AF. The condiments station will always be my favorite. The cabbage salsa and the red salsa is hard to beat. I've never seen that anywhere else. I heard it's more salvadorian than mexican? Idk, have no idea. But the tortilla chips stand competition to chipotle. Same crunch, same warmth, it's just perfect. The size is great for the price and quality. I use to go here for years and order asada burritos and I order 2 super asada burritos today came home no sour cream or guacamole I call to take it back and they make me to fresh ones and told me to bring on back so they can see I show them and they point out the guac that was smaller then the tip of my pinky so I get the new burritos and take it home immediately cut them open made the same way I will attach a pic of the first burrito and the new one and you can be the judge I will honestly never go back... the first pic is the original burrito and the second one is the new with 2 close ups read more

Worst menudo i have ever had! I called in an order of menudo to go & when i got home to eat it was so watered down had no color or flavor whatsoever! I added salt and salsa trying to give it some flavor but ended up throwing the entire thing away! Disgusting some of the meat inside was grey color. I prefer the canned menudo over this! read more

Absolutely one of the best places in Modesto to get some good Mexican food.(food trucks are awesome but restaurant speaking) They bring you your food when you sit in. It's gets busy during lunch time so I recommend calling in orders if you are short on time. Flavor and portion size is very appropriate with the pricing. Been coming here for a couple years and love it. They added the carne Asada fries that are pretty amazing! English and Spanish friendly so don't be intimidated to come in if you don't speak Spanish. Can't go wrong with the carnita tacos! They also will adjust the order if you prefer your asada more of a medium rather than a typical well done. There are different cooks so I suggest you try to learn which cook you prefer to get the better experience. There is a cook I don't prefer as the others. read more

DUDE. NACHOS. Boyfriend got the super nachos. I got the regular with meat, so fucking bomb! The girls were really nice, everyone's saying how service sucks. When you are polite and smiling at a worker, 9 times out of 10 they're gonna treat you just as well as you treat them. So don't be an impolite dick! The meat the give you is old. We got burritos today We threw the whole thing away it was old disgusting and just not fresh at all. This is how people get sick and bacteria gets on the food because they serve old food and have a salsa bar that I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pork. I had ordered huevos rancheros with my eggs over easy. My eggs were made over hard. I requested they be made over. The cook asked the cashier who helped me how I wanted my eggs in a mean harsh tone. The cook made them over and they were still hard. Knowing how upset he was to make them over I refused to say anything else. I also did not receive Ranchero Sauce. This place is definitely not one of my favorites and I doubt I'll be back to this place again. I really don't appreciate the rudeness and lack of desire to make my eggs right. My hubby and I went here Saturday and it was great. We got there at about 6:30 and there wasn't many people there. I ordered the regular nachos with chicken (don't order the super unless your sharing) GREAT nachos!! My hubby ordered those super burritos. That was awesome too. The service was good. and the food was fast. I love their salsa and my son loves their chips. We also got a medium and a large drink and it all ended up costing $14. The Super Burritos are massive- keep your wrists straight to avoid injury. Menudo, a main soup for Saturdays and Sundays, should be served with the utmost respect; regardless of social class. The menudo that was served to me had a very distinct taste that wasn't clean at all . The chunks of trip looked as though they were just thrown in without any attention. Not good! Im giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. Reason #1, they mess up my orders on more than one occasion, Reason #2, The take out orders are NEVER ready when you get there. They say "Ready in 5 Min." yet its never ready. I have asked them multiple time when I place my order over the phone to please have it ready. They say every time that it will be. I show up and they don't have it ready and say it's because they are busy. Same response every time. Back to reason 1, I have ordered items "super burrito" and get home to find no sour cream. I have ordered "double meat" yet get home and find I don't have double meat. They don't forget to charge me for things, yet forget to include what I pay for. The only thing that keeps me coming back is the crunchy carnitas. Very hard to find Carnitas cooked to a crunch perfection. read more
