We've been going here off and on for a few years. The last couple of meals have been excellent. They are updating their menu. We asked for enchiladas and even though they aren't currently on the menu, they made them for us. Worth a short drive from Eureka to Humboldt Hill.

    Super Steak Ranchero burrito

Easter Sunday and I worked up an appetite working around the house. Wasn't expecting to find many options and I was right. Struck out twice. I turned on Humboldt Hill to turn around and remembered the taqueria right off the exit. Amazingly they were open. First thing I noticed is how clean the restaurant is. A brief look at the menu and I decided on the Super Steak Ranchero burrito. While I waited, I was generously offered some chips and salsa from who I assume is the owner. Very nice person. Got my burrito and went home. The burrito came with chips and 3 small containers (2 different salsas and one with pickled carrots and onion). The burrito was as tasty as it was fresh and I loved the heat from the red salsa. Will definitely go back.

    Chili verde

Absolutely the best chili verde ever! Street tacos are on point too! Fast friendly service with clean restrooms and a chill vibe

I've been trying to look in the windows as we've driven by all week and from what I've been able to tell everyone who wasn't eating has been masked, so I decided it was time to stop in for a bite! The food was okay. Like, nothing really to write about, just okay. I'm sure we'll occasionally stop in on a whim because it's so close to home, but I would not go out of my way for it.

    This Chile was very good

I've eaten a dozen different Carne Asada fries and by far they have the worst. Tacos were bland and just contained meat and shell.

Good food, served fast -- perfect stop along the Redwood Highway!…read more If you're driving north or south on the 101 -- also known as the Redwood Highway during this stretch -- and find yourself near Eureka in Humboldt County, make sure to stop at The Cutten Chalet! The food was delicious, but what really stood out was the service -- absolutely incredible! Everyone works together like a true team: friendly, attentive, and always checking in to top off your coffee or see if you need anything. Even when it's busy, the food comes out super fast and fresh. Our server, Debbie, was fabulous! She's been with the restaurant for over 20 years -- and you can tell. Loyal, personable, and excellent at what she does. If you're traveling with kids, there's even a cute little park and zoo at Sequoia Park Garden nearby -- perfect for stretching your legs before getting back on the road. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for good food, fast and friendly service, and that warm, small-town atmosphere you can only find along the redwoods.

One word: Hashbrowns…read more Full disclosure but these pictures were taken just over a year ago when I was visiting my parents. It's been over a year & I still think about the amazing hashbrowns at this place, that's how good they are. I remember they came out hot & crispy yet soft & fluffy on the inside. I am honestly surprised how many times I have come back to this memory but I simply can't think of a time I had better hashbrowns. When we visit my folks for the holidays I'm going to insist we have breakfast here at least once! Sitting outside under the covered patio is also really nice on a sunny day. Beautiful atmosphere for a bright weekend brunch!

Even though they didn't have cioppino, it was the perfect choice. Sitting out on the patio with the breeze and the sun and the bay with pelicans and gulls flying and flowers all around was great in itself. The food and warm service people made it incredible. We had the best clam chowder I have ever had - thick, creamy, sweet with clams, and amazingly not heavy at all, just perfect. The hot crab sandwich was a special, so that made up our minds on one thing; and it was excellent. The onion rings were highly recommended by the waitress and the guy at the next table who had just gotten a serving. The breading was perfect and nicely seasoned, and the inch-tall rings of sweet white onion - wow. Giant, delicious onion rings. My son was attracted to the blackened sole but I persuaded him that we needed the clam cutlets because - cutlets of razor clam, seriously? And they were cutlets, a thing we had never seen, nicely breaded and delicious. We like clams. The fries were okay, just fries. The tartar sauce was light and an excellent tangy counterpoint, and the cocktail sauce was truly amazing. We were impressed. Both plates came with a small slice of tasty watermelon, too. We left very full and well-satisfied but not feeling weighted down. If you are ever in the area before 3pm on the days they are open - do not miss Gill's on the bluff By the Bay.
