I will give this place 4 stars only because the parking around the establishment is kind of limited and unguided. However! The quality, taste, and skill the food is cooked with outshined that small offence. I've tried this place once before on a rainy day and enjoyed it just as much. But this time around, I tried something new; something that can be taken and eaten on the go; something so comforting I can't wait to try again: a Gordita pollo. I ordered it without revisions to the ingredients and was not at all surprised when I fell in love with the 2/$8 decadent deal. 2 hot tortillas enveloped in melty cheese, freshly grilled chicken, chopped onions and aromatics; this dish fueled my soul and my appetite for more delicious discoveries to make at this place. This place sits outside of landscaping business and neighbors a small produce stand. This is a great place to go with others, fill the benches with laughs and memories or meditate alone in the unbelievable aromas while you wait for your order.

Asada tacos

Stopped here after my daughters softball practice , Sooo good can't wait to stop here again soon !!! The hot sauces were fresh and spicy !!

Asada

My husband and I found this place and had lunch. We ordered 2 al pastor and 2 asada tacos, an asada quesadilla and an asada burrito. The found was decent. The tortillas for the tacos were a little hard and the Carne asada meat was a tad dry. The quesadilla and burrito were really good. We were only given green salsa, I should've asked for red salsa as well. It was an okay lunch. We don't live anywhere near there and I do not see us going back.

Chicken quesadilla (it's pretty big and cheesy)

I was highly impressed and completely satisfied. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the food truck to go to !! I had ordered two chicken tacos and one beef and everything was incredibly seasoned , the cilantro and lime made it even better. The sauces/ salsas were very good , if you are someone that enjoys your food spicy...and I do mean spicy...add the red salsa. I also was not disappointed with the pork tamales , it was my first time trying a tamale and I would get it again. The chicken quesadilla was just as good and had me wanting to do a dance from all the cheese in the quesadilla. overall I believe the food is made with love and pride and I will most definitely be back !!

My wife really likes their tacos. I really like their quesadillas. The staff is very friendly and nice. Update: Gave it 4 stars at first but now down to one. They aren't using gloves. Touching everything with their hands. I don't want the COVID baby.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican food L.A.-style, look no further: Taqueria Hernandez is where it's at. Truth. Worth the drive and money. They are generous with their portions and do not skimp on flavor. Discussing this with Elite Yelper, Edward A., he agrees that the food masters here really capture the SoCal flavors of those original food trucks some of us who have spent a good amount of time out west crave. The Low Down: Do not miss the pork tamales. They are $2 each or 6 for $8 and only available on the weekends. I got two chickens and four porks. Both were delicious, but the pork tamales had so much more flavor in my humble opinion. Doesn't really need any sauce, but we like them with some Catalina dressing for dipping [not offered at the food truck]. Next Up: The Pork Torta. Usually I'm adamant about sticking with corn tortillas when it comes to my Mexican food, but sometimes you just got to go with the bread. Their torta is as big as my face [OK, maybe not that big as I do have a big face], and the flavors of marinated pork perfectly seasoned and grilled stuffed between two oversized round pillows of white bread layered with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. This one can be messy with the juices running all down your arm, but grab a few napkins and go for it because this one is well worth the drive on the Westside and the $7 price. Omg....the flavors of this one are really delicious. No need to go and "fix yourself a dang quesadilla!" as theirs is pretty close to perfect. At $5, we chose the beef [carne asada] quesadilla. They loaded this puppy up with a ton of meat. It was really quite simple served in a grilled flour tortilla folded with melted queso fresco to hold it all together. Dynamite and definitely Napolean approved! This one is truly filling and actually reheats very well the next day on a nonstick fry pan if you ordered so much food and can't finish this one like I did. This also needs no sauce because it's honestly perfect they way it was. OK, I did eat it with some sour cream and the green sauce, but that's because I had made a request and didn't want to waste them. The Beef Burrito: This thing is HUGE. And at only $6 for an authentic Mexican burrito stuffed full of all the flavorful goodness Taqueria Hernandez offers, choosing this behemoth is a no-brainer. Just do it. Last, but not least: The [Street] Tacos. If it's your first time, try one of each. At only $2.50 per taco, you might as well. I really enjoyed the chicken and beef, but again, the pork taco stole the show. Topped with cilantro and chopped onions on a grilled corn tortilla served with two slices of lime, these are probably the best street tacos in Jacksonville. Overall, I pretty much ordered everything except the menudo, which I may go back and try real soon. You can ask for a side of sour cream, the green sauce and their fiery red sauce. Again, the food is great without any condiments, but why not enjoy the ultimate experience? 5-Stars!

Mandarin Jarritos

I've long heard about this truck, just a few miles from my house in Orange Park and a stones throw from where I grew up on the Westside. We don't have a lot in the area of note for food, and I usually make a trek into Murray Hill, 5 Points or the like unless I'm in a hurry and just need something fast. I'll be glad to add this truck to my list of fast options nearby, because it's actually cravable. I stopped with my 15 year old who was untrusting based on its location on 103rd and shared dirt lot with the mulch(?) seller. But I reminded him that the best food usually comes from such places. We ordered 2 chicken tacos ($2.50 each) and 6 tamales split between beef and chicken ($8) Plus two mandarin Mexican sodas (Jarri in glass bottles ($1.50 each) The sodas weren't my favorite due to being super sweet, but he liked it. The tacos were full of meat and cilantro and eaten too quickly to get a photo. The tamales were moist and full of flavor, and though I'm no tamale expert, exactly as I would hope. Next time I'll ask for sauce, though good without. Two notes, are that they are cash only, and they speak very little English. So just order and pay and enjoy your delicious food in a few quick minutes. Update: STILL DELICIOUS! And now also takes cards. Yay!

Carne asada and chicken tacos! Very good!!

GREAT FOOD..... DISGUSTING PRACTICES!!! I love the food here but I will NEVER return!!! I observed with my own eyes, one young lady rolling a burrito with her bare hands!!! After the young man took my money, he immediately started adding lettuce to someone else's tacos, WITHOUT washing his hands! He saw me watching and then closed the side window so that I couldn't see any longer!!! I mean we are in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic and they are directly touching food and money and we are eating it!!

Because who doesn't love food trucks especially ones who make Mexican food. I wanted to try the sopes and tacos, let me tell you how amazing they were. I'm pretty impressed by how yummy this was and it was very reasonable. The ladies working the truck were super nice and overall I'm happy with today's pit stop.

This is the entire menu.

This food at this truck is pretty authentic. Everything is cooked to order and is soooo good. We drive from Mandarin just to get a couple of tacos regularly. The chicken is good but the beef is EXCELLENT. It's my go to for tacos and quesadillas. I love that they serve corn tortillas but that's typical for good street tacos. Don't forget the green sauce! They also have all the flavors of Jarritos soda you can imagine. I don't usually drink soda but I have to splurge and get a Jarrito every now and then.

Enjoying tacos al fresco

I've driven past this food truck many times, but recently, they relocated to a more convenient location - only a block away. I stopped by on Saturday around 2 and there was quite a line - I soon saw why! On Weekends, they offer tamales and menudo. I love tamales! At one of the tables a man was enjoying a generous bowl of menudo and his companion was eating tamales. I asked him how they were. He said, "They're my favorite, I just ate 6!" I ordered 6 pork tamales also to take home & a beef taco to eat there. The taco was good - beef, cilantro and onions - but the tamales were fantastic! Most places use way too much masa and hardly any filling. I'm very glad to say that is not the case here - perfect proportions! I usually make my own tamales to enjoy after Christmas - but this year, I may get a little help from la familia Hernandez!

Carne Asada and Al Pastor Taco

This food truck was actually parked out front of the Prime Liquor and Smoke Shop on 103rd across from the Webb Library. I was probably the first customer of the day as it took a little time to get my order. The ladies inside were making either a bunch of orders or starting out for the day. It was all good though. My order was packed up nicely and she included a container of green sauce. The tacos were piping hot but every bite was delicious. I love tacos and I compare them to my favorite spot (not in Jax.) These were pretty good. The corn tortillas fell apart, but luckily I had silverware with me so that was a quick fix. I wish I had asked if they had a hot sauce, because the green sauce was mild but flavorful. I will have to stop by again if I spot them out there. I assumed they are an expansion of the food truck farther down 103rd by Old Middleburg and the restaurant also in 103rd. (I haven't gotten a chance to try either, but I plan to.)

Carne asada on flour

I am a full blown taco addict, consuming on average 9 tacos per week. I was in need of a fix while I was in the area, so I opened up my trusty Yelp app hoping to find the best tacos on the west side, and the Yelp gods led me to Taqueria Hernandez. Taqueria Hernandez serves delicious, authentic Mexican food for the cheap. All of the tacos are $2.50 a piece with your choice of chicken, beef, or pork. I ordered three beef tacos on flour and they did not disappoint. The beef was cooked to perfection, the tortillas were perfectly warm, and the tacos themselves were served street style with cilantro, onion, and lime with the added bonus of their jalepeno hot sauce that is on point. The only thing that was missing from my meal was some warm tortilla chips. Overall, this truck definitely puts out some authentic, delicious food served hot and fresh. If you are in need of a taco fix, I highly recommend that you check them out!

Man, it was one of the best decisions I've made on the road lately! The food came out hot and fresh with that real homemade taste. The tacos were packed with flavor, the rice and beans were on point, and the portions were generous enough to fill up a hungry driver without breaking the bank. I went with the carne asada and it hit the spot perfectly - seasoned just right, not too greasy, and cooked tender. Service was quick and friendly, even when they were busy. The place has that classic hole-in-the-wall vibe (in the best way), nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. It felt like the kind of authentic spot locals would keep coming back to. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the parking can be a little tight for a big rig if you're not careful, and they don't have a ton of truck-friendly seating space. But the food more than makes up for it. If you're rolling through the area and craving real Mexican food, definitely stop in. I'll be back next time I'm in the neighborhood. ¡Muy bueno! -- Carlos, SemiTruckDriver

Service at the bar was great. Food arrived faster than expected, but I had also got there as their night was winding down. My friends and I were originally going to eat here for Cinco de Mayo, but when I got there at 6:45, I was told it would be a 3.5 hour wait. They had a DJ outside pumping out fast and upbeat music for the party and an outside margarita stand for grab and go drinks. When I arrived back just after 9, I had told them to take us off the list. She informed me that they tried calling me. Nothing came through on my phone, but she did show her call log and sure enough, it showed they called me around 8:20. My friends and I probably would have stayed to eat here originally had we been given a more realistic wait time guesstimate. An hour and a half wait vs 3.5 hours is much more feasible. Oh well. I'm sure I'll be back in the future. I've always enjoyed Anejo.

Now, those were great. Small side of guac was brought after that- meant to go with the meal, but we were so hungry we just ate with the chips. It was very good- fresh tasting. Then we waited. And waited some more. Asked about the food, then waited some more. Finally, we cut our losses and asked for the check minus the food that never came. The band was starting next door and we wanted to celebrate the bday girl. Pic 1, text just after 8pm- shows me joking that I was going to eat my friends food since she was headed over from next door and taking a bit and we had ordered 10 minutes prior.
