Definitely got the small town diner feel here, and everything on the menu sounded so good! They also have a specials board inside so make sure to take a look before you make your decision. I finally decided on the south of the border omelette, which also comes with hash browns or potatoes or fruit, and a biscuit or muffin or toast. Such a satisfying and filling meal! The omelette itself was not short on ingredients at all, and I loved the cilantro. The menu did mention homemade salsa but I didn't see any of that on the side or inside. Other than that, the eggs were cooked nicely. I picked the chorizo biscuit on the side and it was so soft and fluffy inside! I also appreciated the amount of options on the kids menu. There was plenty more options than just your standard pancake, bacon, and eggs. Our kids loved the pigs in a blanket which was actually quite big and perfect for our two kids to split. Service was awesome, our server was so kind and even brought out our friend's son's maple bar with a candle because he mentioned it was his birthday. She did it without us even asking which was so sweet! The food came out so quickly too despite the entire restaurant being full. Great experience here at Bette's!

I usually go with the turkey which has turkey, white cheddar, tomato, pickles, onion, lettuce, and hot mustard. It was a bit spicier than I would have liked, not that it was too hot, but that flavor was really dominant for me so I'd probably modify it a bit in the future or just build my own . My daughter loved her ham sandwich which comes with sprouts, avocado, and cucumber. My husband also really liked his Italian and their clam chowder. My family of five--myself, my two sisters, my niece, and my brother-in-law--went here for breakfast…read morethis past Saturday, and unfortunately, what should have been a nice family breakfast turned into a very uncomfortable experience. From the moment we walked in, the vibe felt a little off. There were some stares and unfriendly looks that immediately made us feel uncomfortable. The woman who greeted and seated us, however, was very sweet, and our server was also friendly--at least initially. We were seated, our drinks came out promptly, and our order was taken without issue. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. At this point, we had been waiting approximately 30-35 minutes for our food. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we noticed a party of four who arrived at least 15-20 minutes after us had already been served their food. My sister understandably asked our server about our order. She said she would check on it, but she never came back to give us an update. About five minutes later, she was finally walking toward our table with our food. The problem? By then, we had been there for roughly 45 minutes, and we had a 1:00 p.m. tour appointment that we were already going to be late for. As she approached our table, we had already stood up to leave. My sister explained that we unfortunately had to go, and the server's response was: "Oh, okay. I'll just cancel your orders." That was it. No apology. No explanation. No acknowledgment that we had been waiting for nearly 45 minutes. Nothing. As someone who has worked in customer service for most of my life, I understand that things happen. Orders get delayed. Tickets can get lost. Kitchens get busy. But the natural response in a situation like this should be something as simple as, "I'm so sorry for the delay. Let me find out what's happening." Instead, we received no apology or sense of concern whatsoever. I later called the restaurant and asked to speak with the manager. To her credit, she was very apologetic and tried to explain that perhaps our server was "having an off day." She also mentioned that sometimes tickets don't go through the system in the order they're received. I understand that mistakes happen, but that explanation didn't really address what happened. We were seated roughly 20 minutes before the other party, yet they received their meals well before us. More importantly, it was the complete lack of acknowledgment or apology from our server that made the experience so upsetting. And I have to say something else because it is difficult to ignore. We are Asian. The other party was white. I cannot say with certainty that race was the reason our experience unfolded the way it did. But when you combine the uncomfortable looks and overall atmosphere we experienced when we walked in, followed by being seated significantly earlier but served much later, and then the complete lack of concern when we finally had to leave, it left us feeling very uncomfortable and questioning whether we were treated differently because of our race. That is a terrible feeling to leave a restaurant with. Hood River is a beautiful town, and we had otherwise been enjoying our visit. It's unfortunate that this experience became such a memorable part of our trip. Racism may not always be obvious or openly expressed, but experiences like this are a painful reminder that discrimination can still exist in places where you least expect it. I sincerely hope this was simply a series of unfortunate circumstances and not what it appeared to be. But regardless of the reason, the way our family was treated--and especially the lack of basic customer service when we raised the issue--was disappointing.

Split the St. Helens Burger, an order of fries, and a side salad with the recommended goat cheese (trust them--it was the right call). The burger was everything you want it to be. A fresh poppy seed bun, a perfectly cooked patty, sweet caramelized onions... and then came the poblano pepper. That little bit of smoky heat tied the whole thing together. Now let's talk about the fries because they deserve their own paragraph. These are, without question, my favorite fries. They arrived hot, crispy, perfectly golden, and had that satisfying crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one. If you're a fry person, these alone are worth the visit. The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. I now wish I didn't let my husband eat more of the fries. Gotta head back up there soon!
