Absolutely loved this place! I got the tacos and gorditas, and both were delicious. My friends ordered the Torta Cubana and Plato de Reyes, and after trying a bite of theirs, I can honestly say those were just as good! The steak was served hot, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The flavor honestly reminded me of the carne asada I grew up eating at home, which made it even better. The aguas frescas were also on point full of flavor and definitely not watered down like you get at some other restaurants. The atmosphere was great, the music added a nice vibe, and the service was excellent. The waiters were friendly, attentive, and always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. No matter what city I am in I will always crave tacos! This trip was no different. While in Martinez, GA I used the Yelp app to help me narrow down which restaurant to dine at and El Rey was top of the list. The service was simply phenomenal! From the hostess, waitress and manager every one we came into contact with was wonderful. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I came here for a girls night on a Friday night, so obviously it was packed. I was able to reserve a table a couple of hours beforehand so that we can avoid a long wait. We ordered a pitcher of house strawberry margaritas, pollo con queso, a burrito, al pastor taco combo, and elote ribs. The margs were good and you can't taste the tequila. The food was ok, not the best I've had and it wasn't hot as if it was fresh. They also have a salsa bar, but we found a hair in the guac. The service was ok, and we couldn't hear her over the loudness of the restaurant so it was difficult to hear or understand. We all paid around $25-$30, but I think I can get better food elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately, the nice atmosphere was completely overshadowed by the poor service. I went to El Rey's for dinner and drinks with a group, and we were ignored multiple times while waiting to place our order. It got to the point that someone in our group had to call the server over and tell her in Spanish that we were ready to order just to get her attention. The service didn't improve when it was time to leave. While we were waiting for our checks, our server sat down to eat, and we waited approximately another 20 minutes for her to return. What really sealed the experience for me was when I asked for a to-go cup of WATER before leaving. I was told I could not have one because there was alcohol on our table. I explained that they could remove the alcohol tower since we were leaving, but then I was told that because other people still had drinks in their glasses, I still could not receive a to-go cup of water. I have never experienced anything like that over a cup of water. The environment itself is nice, but the rude and dismissive service from both the servers and management completely ruined the experience. Good atmosphere cannot make up for poor customer service. Came here as a group dinner and was profoundly disappointed. Took some snap shots of what my co workers and I ordered. I got the street tacos, each taco at $4.50. Chicken was bland and portions were tiny. Another friend ordered a chicken taco. They forgot his order and when we asked for it, sure it came out as a quick turn around but it literally looked like the chef took a tortilla, threw some chicken, sprinkled little cheese and microwaved it. Did not come with any sides and needless to say, he did not finish it. The restaurant was packed and staff were busy around 6-7pm on a Thursday, so I wonder if this experience of ours was a one off situation. I'd give them a thousand stars if I could. Everything I've ever had or seen put on a table has been phenomenal. Their salsa bar is fantastic, and their service is great. I went from the time it was a grocery and restaurant and the way they've remodeled is amazing. I can't believe they even have a back room now! It's always packed but they're super fast. I stopped in for dinner last night with the family and the place was hopping. Almost seemed like a Friday at other restaurants. This place is so busy they just did a needed extension. Probably the best Mexican cuisine in Augusta. Food: Excellent we had different dishes. I had the Pollo Jalisco and it was seasoned to perfection, came with rice, tortillas, and a guacamole salad, and just the right portion. My son and daughter had the Pollo Con Crema with Chipotle. It came with rice and beans and again the portion was just right. Service: Excellent, we were greeted as we arrived by a host at a reception type desk, he and our waiter were equally friendly and polite. That's all I want from there because they're that good. I usually do alambre- it has some pineapple and grilled bell peppers and cheese. Must get corn tortillas- just trust me on that. And their salsa bar is so great! The basic Salsa is clutch and I add their pico that's on the bar to the salsa. Eating the Quesabirrias Specialties took me back to when I ate street birria in El Paso, TX. The dipping sauce was a bit oily yet didn't take away from any of the flavor. Definitely a recommended dish which sits on a bed of Spanish rice. Birria was full of flavor, seasoned perfectly, and cooked to perfection. I really could have ate two orders of these. Yum! This is the only reason why I am giving this establishment a 4star and NOT a 5 star is the following. The only thing I have bad to say, about this location, is that our table of 21 people was cut off of how many more margaritas towers we were allowed as a total. It was informed that only 5 margaritas is max per table. A tower of margaritas can fill about 11 margaritas glasses and we shared that with 20 people. If 5 is the max for the table, then why did we get 7 total. We had a total of 6 towers (in this photo). If we want to pay for another tower, why are you cutting us off? We weren't being rude. We weren't being loud. We weren't being drunk and it's money for the business. We were celebrating a members birthday and retirement from the US Army of 20 years. And we even offered to pay the tab before ordering another if they thought that we would leave after drinking all that. But the answer was still no.
