Service was a little slow, however it was a Friday night so it was busy. The place seemed to be very popular and had a lively crowd, but was still family friendly. My wife and I ate here, sat at the bar. The margaritas were terrible, syrupy sweet and no way to know what's in them from the menu. We both got the California burrito, and chips and salsa. No joke, I think the salsa is just cocktail sauce. It was watery, runny, and tasted like horseradish. I love Mexican food, I have eaten at hundreds of Mexican food. Restaurants and I have never had salsa that bad. The burritos were lukewarm, soggy, somehow none of the ingredients tasted right together. All I could taste with salt, no flavor no spice. A server brought chips and salsa, but then disappeared. After waiting for over 10 minutes, I had to ask a server who was walking by our table to bring water for everyone. We continued to wait another 15 minutes our waiter came to take our orders. The food was okay. The salsa was very basic and just tasted like tomato paste. I ordered a top shelf lime margarita with salt around the rim. I finally received it, but with no salt. I ordered a Quesadilla Especial with ribeye steak. I'm going to need you to use your best Ben Stein voice when you read this review. If you aren't sure who he is, think monotone, lackluster and boring (yawn). Where is "la pasión"?! I wasn't feeling it, I wasn't invigorated with beautiful colors and authentic music. We all just went through the motions...like when I learned how to two-step in high school and had to do it for a grade. Eww, let's all get through this review together because we have to (remember Ben Stein). I ordered Sangria and it came in a pretty glass. There wasn't any fruit in it but it did have a lemon wedge garnish. It tasted watered down, like the ice to sangria ratio was off. Once I removed some of the ice, it had a nice flavor. The chips were good, they lacked some salt. I'm beginning to wonder if all Mexican restaurants got together and decided to stop salting their chips. It's an epidemic I'd like to see addressed at the next restaurant summit. TIA I ordered the Chilaquiles Mexicanos, it was decent. Again, my biggest piece of advice would be seasoning. Mexican cooking has unlimited spices to choose from and I want to taste it, like my tongue should feel a little en fuego. Alas, nada. Service was like going through the motions. I went at peak time for dinner our wait time was fair. Soon as a table was available we promptly seated. The staff was friendly and smiling always. Our waiter was excellent. The food was great our drinks were definitely better this time comparing it to last(Ask for top shelf alcohol). The only disappointment was that this "authentic Mexican restaurant" did not have horchata. Other than that the service was quick and the amount you get is very satisfying for the price. I will say that the menus for many Mexican eateries are the same and I am a bit biased after living in San Diego for a minute. No "Hi, good afternoon what would you like to drink" just a "THREE DOLLARTHREE DOLLARTHREE DOLLAR" as she points aggressively around the table. I get tips are a good portion of waiters pay, but you don't deserve it when you argue with your customers on how much they are "forced" to pay you. I will always tip as long as the server is nice, but the second you try and demand it, you might as well suck on my dick, because that's all you're gonna get. I come to this spot quite often, but I can't say that I'm a legit fan. It isn't the best Mexican food I've ever had, granted I'm from Colorado, so I know there is certainly a difference. I think the further you get from the West Coast as well as the central southern area of the country, the further away you get from real Mexican food. The food IS consistent, so I will give them that, and I've never had a problem with anything I've ordered, or really the service for that matter. However, this place is definitely not the cleanliest! They probably haven't dusted since they opened however many years ago, and you can see it on all of the fake plants and decorations they have around the restaurant. The bathrooms aren't terrible, but the certainly are not nice and clean - i try not to touch too many things in any public restrooms, though. Overall, the food is consistent, and it's not terrible, so if you're looking for a good Mexican food spot in the area, this is probably as good as it will get. read more

I'm going to caveat that this review is for anyone looking for authentic Mexican food - I'm sure there are plenty of folks who prefer the bland/tamed down version, and maybe this review won't apply fully to that crowd. If you're in the former category, however, just don't bother with this place. The Augusta area has some mediocre Mexican restaurants, but Poblano's is the bottom of the barrel. The food is bland, down to the salsa they serve with your pre-meal chips. Even my kids, who are notoriously spice-averse, commented that their meals were flavorless. I couldn't get through mine without dousing the entire thing with cholula (though, bonus point, they do carry cholula). Aside from the poor quality food, the service is lacking. On our last visit, we waited for close to 10 minutes after being seated for a waitress to come by and take our drink order, then she practically vanished for the rest of the night. I can't think of a situation that would warrant eating here again. Maybe if your car broke down out front and you were on the edge of starvation, but even then I think you could crawl to Chili's or Fuji. If you really need Mexican food, do yourself a favor and go to literally any other place in the area, particularly one of the taquerias. read more

I get forced to eat here every so often because my husband demands Mexican food and this is the closest "Mexican" restaurant to us. I have since learned of a much more authentic place and no longer need to swallow this swill. We've been here quite a number of times and more often than not, something just plain old sucks. 1. Our server couldn't reach us without squeezing in a poor little girl in a high chair. 8. When my husband tried to use what little Spanish he did remember, the girl rolled her eyes while sighing and said, "that's not how you pronounce that word." I understand people trying to speak Spanish to you may be annoying at times, but being rude about doesn't help the situation out. 9. Why is everything in lettuce and tomato but there's no lime and cilantro on my taco? 10. Oh yes, how are you out of limes?? You're a Mexican restaurant. The last time I heard that line, I should have just walked out then and there but when you're tired and you've waited so long to get sat, you just give in and give up. But never again. What I like most about this place is it is less than a half mile from our house, is cheap as all get out, and not usually that crowded. One exception is when there is a concert going on in the park nearby. The guacamole is excellent as an appetizer, but the free chips and salsa means you really don't need to buy one if you're looking to save money. We came here over the holidays on the Monday night before New Year's. It must have been a popular idea as there was a 30 minute wait for a table of 4! Loads of families with kids and big groups filled the place and everyone seemed jolly. Once we were seated, it was hard to get our waiter's attention - we went for awhile without drinks to go with the chips and salsa we received upon sitting down. When we did get our waiter's attention, he seemed distracted, but kudos to him for remembering absolutely everything without writing it down and being crazy busy. The guacamole caesar is a must! I'm not quite sure what's so caesar about it, other than its made tableside, but omg, is it good. I could seriously just eat that and the bowl of chips, no problem! Our $6 pitcher of domestic beer was also quite tasty and easily split amongst us four. A nice compliment to the meal, especially if you squeeze in a bunch of limes! I settled on having the fajita salad, which was HUGE. I didn't come close to finishing it! The chicken in it was delicious and I added on extra salsa. Absolutely yummy, especially with some extra shredded cheese! I would definitely get again, as I left without feeling crazy stuffed and full (which I often feel after patroning Mexican restaurants).
