This place is awesome for lamp repair. I took in 2 very expensive artimide lamps that just quit working. They were only a couple years old but out of warranty. It wasn't the bulds and sometimes they would flicker on if I beat on them. Perplexed, I took them in for repair. The guy said it was such a simple repair for both (just something wrong in the socket) that he wasn't going to even charge me. He said give me $5 for two new bulbs for the lamps...I said deal!!! Had such a great experience that I just brought an old floorlamp in to be rewired and have the 3-way switch fixed. I will give an update when I get it back. read more

Tap Lighting is wonderful! We have an antique three-candle lamp which needed the switches fixed and a new electrical cord. I wanted to have it renovated as a holiday gift for my wife, who loves the lamp dearly as a family heirloom. Cort at Tap Lighting took care of everything for us, including suggesting an excellent-quality vintage fabric-covered electrical cord with see-thru amber plastic endpiece which really completed the look of the lamp back to its proper state. Cort had the lamp ready at the time we agreed to pick it up, and it works perfectly and looks great! I will definitely repeat at Tap Light the next time we have a lamp that needs fixing. Also, there are some incredibly beautiful one-of-a-kind antique and vintage lamps and chandeliers at Tap Lighting. If you love antiques, you'll be like a kid in a candy store here, they have everything. Thanks Tap Lighting, you guys are great! read more

This is one of San Diego's gems. They have a large selection of light fixtures (wall, ceiling), lamps and lighting-related odds and ends. If you are looking for period, antique, and rare-ish styles of lighting, this is absolutely the place to go. Just as good as the selection is the service. Everyone I spoke with had a helpful can-do attitude. You know you're in good hands when the folks in the store start quoting model numbers off the top of their heads. read more

Everyone at Tap Lighting is friendly and helpful but especially Tammy who helped me pick outdoor lights for my covered patio. I recently moved to San Diego from a small Midwestern town where it was common to do business with a handshake. It is refreshing to find that spirit of doing business here SD. I am still deciding which lighting fixture from their vast selection but they have earned my trust and business. read more

Restoration and rewiring under one roof! I had a funky midcentury modern plaster lamp that's been in my family since the 60's shipped out to me from New Jersey. I'd originally planned to bring the lamp in anyway to have its old wiring replaced. Unfortunately, between the Fedex Store packer in NJ and Fedex Ground Shipping, Fedex managed to smash the bottom of the plaster entirely, in addition to adding several chips throughout. I thought the lamp was probably ruined, but the folks at Tap managed to sculpt a new plaster chunk for the bottom, including matching the unique slime green and blue speckled paint pattern and the curdled cottage cheese texture of the plaster! (This lamp is truly a marvel of midcentury funkitude.) Chips are fixed up too. And Tap took care of the rewiring -- including matching the cord cover color to the base -- and even replaced the missing harp. And it didn't set me back much, considering all the work involved. Thanks to Tap, the lamp of my youth is restored to its groovy greatness. Five stars for Tap! (Zero stars for Fedex...) read more

Very helpful even when they didn't have what we needed ( someone to install a chandelier from Italy) This place is wonderful! Thank you

Excellent service and selection! The staff made great recommendations to stay within my budget.

Just came back from Tap Lighting and had an amazing experience! Tammy and her staff are great. As others said, no pressure and she let us take our time to decide what we wanted. And also gave us a nice discount! We ordered two sconces and a bunch of new lights for outside. Tammy is so great she let us take two sizes of the outdoor lights so we can see which ones we need. read more

We stopped in to find 2 wall sconces. We ended up walking out with 2 chandeliers, 2 wall sconces and a nice 20% discount! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Arturo worked with us, and I couldn't have found him to be any more helpful or lovely than we was. In reading some of these other reviews, people seem to take issue with Tammy, but I witnessed her interacting with a woman who seemed pretty upset about something (not sure what happened there), but Tammy seemed very professional and like she really wanted to make things right without having to completely cave to this woman who seemed to be really over-reacting. I don't think you can ask for much better than that. read more

While we didn't find exactly the fixture that we were looking for, Vicky was hugely helpful in walking us through all of our options in the store for about half an hour. She's VERY patient and sweet. We might be back to buy a pair of gorgeous table lamps that we totally don't need though! read more

So impressed with Tap Lighting. I brought in three lamps today for repairs, I had no working lights in my bedroom. Arturo went above and beyond to make sure my lamps were fixed as soon as possible. In fact they were repaired within twenty minutes. The cost of fixing three lamps was a few dollars more than the cost of fixing one at The lamp post. I highly recommend their services! Professional and budget friendly. Happy Thanksgiving Tap Lighting! read more

We had a great experience shopping at Tap Lighting for exterior lights for our new house. Tammy and her team did a wonderful job finding the lights for us base on our Specifications and budget. We were able to find quality products that are unique, not like cookie cutter styles at Home Depot. The best thing is even with shipping, the price is still cheaper than regular hardware stores. read more

So thrilled with the magic they created ....who knew? I had taken my antique lamp (a special keepsake from Mom after she died) to another place that said they couldn't do anything. Tap Lighting can do it all! Beautiful lamps hanging from ceilings and on walls ...you feel immediately as if you're in a special corner of the world. I was waited on as soon as I arrived, toting a heavy Tiffany-look-alike lamp base. My quote was reasonable and it was ready when they said it would be. This is a place that knows lamps! And they do have parking .....I give this place my highest recommendation. read more

Tammy and Jeff at Tap lighting provide wonderful customer service. Tammy can find many different types of lights not available in the store, which is what she did for me, by sourcing around the world. Jeff is great at all the electrical work that Tap offers. He is very knowledge and has an attitude that almost anything can be done to a light to make it "custom" for the customer. This is probably may favorite lighting store so far. read more

Brought in a lamp that had stopped working. Turned out to be a problem with the internal working components of the dimmer switch. The very kind repairman simply reglued the component that had detached, rather than replacing the whole dimmer switch. Saved me some money (only cost about $10) although the repair would still have been really reasonable even with a new dimmer switch (about $25). Although it only took about a week after I dropped off the lamp which seems relatively quick anyway, he accommodated me when I called because I happened to be in the area and had it ready within a half-hour that day. Would definitely recommend this place for lamp repair! They also have a really cool selection of lighting fixtures. read more

The people here are nice. The store itself is an amazing hodge-podge of lights, lamps, and fixtures for sale. But aside from lamp shopping I would recommend giving this place a miss, especially when it comes to repair. I brought a ceiling light here for repair. They had it for weeks. When I'd call I would never get a straight answer regarding status. When I got it back I was told it was not broken, but back at home it still did not work. They did not charge me, but they did waste a fair amount of my time. read more

This was a great experience! I brought in a sentimental lamp that needed a repair and it was fixed on the spot with great care and warm staff! They made my day!! I will definitely be back! :) read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars for being funky unique and chock full of lamps. We stopped in because we spotted it on our way to Balboa Park. It's filled with lamps of all styles just dripping from the ceilings and filling all the space within the old home. I didn't find anything to buy and I didn't bring anything in to get fixed, but I did enjoy browsing. Modern is my style but I really enjoyed being in the antique house built in the early 1900s - and admiring and imagining the former lives of the hundreds of vintage light fixtures, sconces, etc. read more

Excellent in every way!!! Quality, one-of-a-kind lamps and very cool antiquated lights. Tammy has a wealth of knowledge of the trade. Prices are very fair. Most importantly, the atmosphere is incredibly friendly, professional and will go above and beyond to provide the very best experience possible. You won't get that type of personal attention or care at other retailers. Nearly every light in my house is from Tap; the only ones that aren't I purchased prior to learning about Tap. I boast about my Tap finds to friends and admirers of my beautiful lights. If you are looking for a non-store-bought-looking piece and expect superb service, then Tap Lighting is a must! read more

I discovered Tap Lighting today. I had ordered two lamps from Amazon and was having problems assembling them. Tammy and her staff were ready and waiting to help me, plus even offered to contact the manufacturer should they be defective. They weren't, so I got my lamps back working perfectly. The defect was in my genetic makeup which is sorely missing the mechanical gene. I learned a lesson in all of this---buy LOCALLY if possible. From now on I will go to Tap Lighting for any of my lighting needs. Thank you, Tammy and your staff. read more

My bedroom lamp suddenly didn't work and it is the only light in my loft. I took it to Tap Lighting the day they re-opened after the holidays. Expecting it to be a while for the repair, I dreaded another week or more using a flashlight to read, make the bed, select clothes and clean! I made a joke about another week with a flashlight and was asked to wait a minute. They actually lent me a lamp to use in the interim. It gets better -- the repair was done by the following morning. Customer service just doesn't get any better than this. What a pleasure doing business with Tap Lighting. Definitely 5 stars! read more

Tap Lighting is great. They repaired two table lamps for us in the estimated time and cost. And then the owner stayed late on a Sunday for us to pick them up. Would highly recommend them for their customer service and repair capabilities. Also has one of the best selection of lighting (both old and new) that we've seen. For anyone who lives in Portland and knows of Hippo Hardware, Tapp is very comparable to them! read more

We have a wonderful old Craftsman home and have been waiting for years to put in some new lights as the old ones disintegrated. Read about Tap and thought we'd give it a try. What a neat store...we worked with Geof and it was a pleasure! With a large family, we are very economical and after deciding on lights we found them online for less. Sent an email to Geof outlining the cost difference and he graciously worked with us. We'll pay a wee bit more but what we gained is well worth it...personal attention, advice, and service. (We were trying to choose the glass based on images, but with Geof's help, made a much better decision.) I know we will love our new lights and how great to stay local and support a small business! (PS We also took in an old floor lamp for repair and they were able to fix it while we waited!) read more

Took two lamps by and got the switches repaired on the spot for $10 by Cort. Can't ask for better service than that! Definitely will get our business in the future. read more

If you own a home, you have to go to this place. Even if you think you don't need any lighting, you'll find something unique that you just have to have. This place is jam-packed with vintage and new pieces that you haven't seen elsewhere, so you'll have to really spend some time looking at everything. Arturo is awesome- He patiently worked with us to get us the perfect fixtures we needed, and within our budget and time frame. read more

Tap Lighting repaired and rewired my 1951 glass chandelier! I love the work they did, and am happy to have this fixture in full working order!! I highly recommend them for your light fixture repair project! read more

Tap Lighting is the only place to go for anything to do with lighting. After going to the two commercial companies and then to two smaller companies to repair my hanging light San Diego Electric referred me to Tap Lighting on 6th Avenue. I called first to ask if they were open. The gentleman said he was not but he was there so come on by. I had always desired to go in the yellow house on a corner of 6th but hadn't. Today I did and what a treat. I was in and done in a matter of minutes but stayed to enjoy a tour of the rooms. The inventory was incredible. So I stayed a bit. For me it was an event that came with great, capable service. Thank you for a fun fix. read more

OUTSTANDING - professional, customer focused - had a Chandelier repaired - done quickly, at a great price. Will definitely bring other business here. read more

The most unique lighting establishment that I know of in San Diego. Pricing is reasonable for their quality of goods and I personally prefer to support local over the internet, when possible. And with them, its a joy! Cort, Tammy, Vicki and crew are my go-to. Thanks guys! read more

The absolute best place to find unique lighting! If you can't find it here, look again because you probably over looked it. Great location and most of all amazing owners. read more

What a great place! This was my third visit, for again a light fixture repair. This visit, everyone there just went above and beyond! Court is so extremely knowledgeable about all things lights. He even helped me pick a new shade for my renovated lamp. Vicki was so kind to assist me in simple lighting questions and even personal projects. Thank you Tap Lighting! read more

This place is the BEST for honest customer service - attention to detail - getting the job done right = " Exactly as you wanted" I have dealt w "Cort" in the past as he has worked on a couple unique antique lamps inherited from my parents. Once again my bill 1/3 less than quoted as Cort had some extra shop parts to which he basically gave me. I posted last Dec 2015 - Thanking Tap Lighting and will stand by my statement that Cort is = "The Rainman of Lamps..." My Best / John Mills read more

As a long-time San Diegan, the treasure & beauty of the yellow vintage home of Tap Lighting is one of my favorite San Diego businesses!! The beautiful vintage, never before seen, dream lighting displayed, is therapy for the soul... like entering into a lighting dream! Cory & team are gems... soooo appreciate their skill, artistry & amaaaaazing customer service!! read more

First and foremost these guys are the best!!! I brought in a broken French antique lamp from my wife's grandparents. Her grandfather had modified it from an oil lamp to an electric lamp back in the 50's. However, the plug and bulb fixture were broken and very much out of date to say the least. Within 5 minutes of walking in the door, they had removed the broken parts and replaced them with modern American fixtures and they even threw in a new bulb!!!! Again, I can't say enough good things! I will be heading there for any of my lighting needs!! read more

Tap Lighting is unique and always a treasure chest of unusual, collectible, lamps. The store has an excellent supply of pendants, hanging lamps and outdoor lights as well. The store is crowded and hard to get around but that just makes a search more of a treasure hunt. Very good repair service. read more

I wish I'd walked in here 5 years ago! After living with my lamps from the UK working at 50% brightness for years I finally decided to convert them to USA lamps. I tried a couple of places on Morena who promise "we sell every light fitting" on their signs.... who turned out to be baffled by what I was asking. Tried Home Depot who sold me parts that required me to totally take the lamp apart and rewire it. Finally went into Tap and they had a solution within 30 seconds! Awesome customer service and clearly the most knowledgeable in San Diego about anything to do with lamps or wiring. They're also very friendly and approachable AND they have a great selection of cool lamps and wall lights. I'll be back for sure! read more

I had a floor lamp and a table lamp that needed fixing and drove all the way from North County because I had heard that Tap was the best. Everyone is so friendly and helpful there! The electrician fixed both lamps on the spot while I browsed their amazing collection of unique lighting fixtures. I only wish I needed more lights in my house. Thank you folks for a wonderful experience!. read more

We are so lucky to have these people in San Diego. Cort is not just a repair person -- he is an artist. I brought in a chandelier that had been in my family for a while, and needed re-wiring, plus some TLC beyond that. The price was totally reasonable, but I also cannot thank him enough for the time, effort, and advice he gave me in bringing this old thing back to life. We are just flat out lucky to have them here. read more

DO NOT ORDER LIGHTS FROM TAP LIGHTING! I ordered 2 simple (or so I thought) outdoor lights for out columns out in our front yard. I was told it would take 4-6 weeks. Ok - no problem -- standard time frame for things. Of course, Tap Lighting wanted me to pay up front - in full -- for the entire order. Having heard nothing, I called after week #5 and was told, "Oh that company takes 3-10 weeks." This was news to me! Had I been told that from the beginning, I might not have opted for those lights and might have picked something that would be ready sooner. At week 9, still nothing -- so I called again -- was told the lights should be here by next week. At week 10 -- still nothing -- called again -- was told the lights should be here the following week. Mind you -- the company who makes these lights is located in Northern California! Finally, 11 1/2 weeks after placing my order and paying in full -- the lights arrived. I had forgotten what they even looked like it had been so long! The lights were fine -- really nothing that special or unique. No idea why it had to take that long and why Tap Lighting lied about how long it would take and when they would arrive. Never again..... read more

I encountered the best customer service I've had in YEARS, here! Just this morning, I stopped in to drop off my grandfather's antique lamp that needed repair. The girl working asked if I had 10 minutes to spare, as the repair specialist (Ricky, I think was his name?) could fix it right away! I was totally shocked and surprised! Granted, it ended up being a very minor issue - needed a new socket - but he fixed it in less than 10 minutes and brought it out to me. Super friendly guy, too. AND it cost $12!!!! Not to mention that this place is a vintage/antique afficionado's (me) DREAM! The lamps are some of the most intricate, unique, beautiful ones I've ever seen. Chandeliers, floor lamps, table lamps, wrought iron, glass, you name it. Of course, they are a bit pricey, but should I ever be in the market for that special room accent that I just can't live without, I will without a doubt go here. They also have some beautiful pieces of wood furniture for sale, too. SUCH a great place, I will recommend highly to everyone!!!!! read more
