After living in this city for nearly 40 years, and having driven past this store at least a thousand times, I finally stopped in to replace a lampshade. Well, silly me. This is a LIGHTING store, not a lampshade store. The cheerful woman who graces the countless ads that I've seen for this store was not present. Instead, there was a slightly surly man. I felt like I was interrupting something or bothering him with my requests for lampshade and finials. He scrounged up an old, slightly scratched finial for one of my repairs (which was fine, as I was happy with it and could just file it and paint it), but offered no suggestions for the other item I brought in. This store has an amazing array of lamps, but no supply of lampshades. Go with an open mind, and you'll probably find an interesting lamp for your needs. read more

I won't go anywhere else for my lighting since meeting Tammy at Tap! I have been remiss in writing a review, and was prompted when I was about to reach out to her to tell her I'm in dire need of a couple of floor lamps! I like this place, the selection is great and the employees are friendly. I recently bought a vanity light here and when I got home I was surprised that there were no screws to mount the light. People spend hundreds of dollars here but they can't even provide the mounting screws? Pretty lame, but oh well the light fixture is amazing. read more

A GLOWING REVIEW Tap Lighting is an amazing place to visit. So many unique and wonderful treasures everywhere you look! I had such a fabulous experience that I am compelled to share my story; I had several Tiffany style lamps that were in need of repair. One in particular is a beautiful heirloom floor lamp that was damaged by movers. I tried everything to have it repaired but no one would touch it! I remembered several years ago I worked with Tap Lighting when I managed a local restaurant. So, I thought why not, I'll give them a try! I worked with both owners of the store sending them pictures of my lamps to start with and getting quotes via email. Colt and Tammy were both spectacular to work with. They are extremely passionate about what they do. Colt said he could fix my floor lamp. The price quotes were very reasonable! I made another trip to Tap lighting today. Another wonderful experience working with Cort. I brought in a Lenox lamp, approximately 28 years old with a missing part, bent piece and loose parts. It needed a tune up. I also bought a hard to find three way hard to find bulb at a reasonable price. Cort: I told you I didn't buy a bulb the last time but I actually did so this is my second for me because of your recommendation. The shade that I was waiting for actually arrived after I went home from my visit to your store. It's an original Lenox shade but the silk inner part is gone which isn't unusual. I see so many good reviews for Tap here. And I used to depend on Tap for the occasional repair and appreciated the good service and kindness there. However, I went there with a gooseneck Holtkoetter reading lamp that was running so hot it burned me when I accidentally brushed my hand against it. I was treated with impatience and told that that's just the way the lamp was made (at the time I could not find any evidence of anyone else being burned by such a lamp). And I was told that Tap doesn't do repairs anymore. Yet I see that many reviewers had repairs done. I thought maybe I was not spending enough money there to be treated with consideration. And only now I'm realizing that I could replace the halogen bulb with an LED and not have the searing heat. (Duh, right? I feel as awkward as the day I walked out of Tap with my overheating lamp in hand.) read more

We've been looking for a dining room chandelier for quite some time. Nothing we saw really felt like it fit. On a whim, we visited Tap Lighting. Amazing selection displayed and even more so, available through Tammy Packard's mental inventory of manufacturers! I came in with a photo of our dining room and immediately, Tammy brought me to view the chandelier we eventually chose. She asked me my budget and gave me a few different options. She also offered to come to my house to actually view the space and assess the lighting need. She came over a couple days later, and knew exactly which shades of the chandelier would look best and gave me realistic expectations of how much light would be provided by the fixture. We thought we would need to wait a couple of months to get the exact color we wanted shipped in, but Tammy worked her magic. Tammy and the gang are awesome here. Our friends had beautiful light in their dining room and highly recommend us to check out the selection here. We ordered all our lighting and they hit the nail on the head for all the challenges we faced. In searching for a lighting fixture that needed to fill the space for a 25 foot ceiling, we didn't want the run of the mill chandelier. We ended up purchasing a Spiral monorail system & had 7 LED pendants hang staggered from the spiral. Tap helped us select the right amount of pendants, colors, and offered different bids and choices along the way. We are so please with everything. Some of our Edison bulb pieces are truly modern, clean, and colorful. We definitely will use them again. We used our electrician to install the pieces and he even said it's some of the nicest stuff he has seen in a long time. read more

NOTE: If you're looking for a repair, they have huge signs up today stating they're not taking any new repairs as of 1/31/18 (for ~ 3 months?) due to the very talented lighting repair-tech-person Cort going on sabbatical. So that said, I'm extremely glad I decided to bring my grandma's 2 vintage lamps in today which were in serious disrepair. She passed away in 2015 so I'm trying to preserve as much of her unique style and spirit of reusing/repurposing items as possible. Both lamps had original wiring (sometimes flickering & shocking at the outlet) and were broken in half where the bulb adjoins the neck of the base. One can only use duct tape so much before things just start to get ridiculous. I was greeted immediately by Tammy, though there were a few other customers in the store. And what a store it is! Totally amazing collection of lamps both modern and restored antique, and parts galore. To my amazement Cort said the fixes should be easy and quickly got to work repairing both lamps! I told him it was no hurry, and actually expected to drop them off for a week, but he seemed really enthusiastic about cool vintage stuff and obviously about restoring lamps, so I checked out the rest of the store while he worked his magic. Cort put a 3-way switch in the standing lamp and rewired with some neat custom wire he had that accented the gold tones in the lamp base. On the small lamp, he tightened the contacts and installed a new plug (no more flickering/shocking) that lays flat against the wall. Sweet! He replaced the neck pieces and a few other accents on both lamps, and was finished in probably less than 25 minutes. The bill came to about $80 for parts and labor on both lamps, including a very sophisticated $15 dimming LED bulb and several feet of the custom wiring, which I found very reasonable considering the lamps are now awesome and functional again, and living on with the memory of my grandmother. Both Tammy & Cort obviously work really hard to run an exceptional shop and business, the kind of shop you don't really find much these days. read more

I visited Tap Lighting just before Christmas to grab a gift for a friend. My friend loves the look of old-fashioned Edison light bulbs and is very picky with her design preferences. Stepping into Tap Lighting is magical - there are so many different types of lights and light fixtures everywhere. They range from simple to incredibly unique. Those working in the store were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They seemed VERY knowledgeable about lights. Not only did they help me find the exact design I was looking for, they made alterations to it at no extra cost to help make sure I was getting exactly what I needed. Plus, they knew it was a Christmas gift and packed it in a gift bag as well! With their sale at the time, the low price exceeded my expectations! I scored an incredible lamp base at an estate sale -- ceramic, blue, arabesque in shape. No crazing, no cracks. Just amazing. Anyway, imagine my disappointment when I discovered I was unable to fit it with any modern lampshade. :( I took the lovely thing to Tap and - what customer service! My lamp was triaged for correct (safe) wiring, given a new plug, and a clip-on attachment for a shade (I had no idea such a thing existed)! We even found a shade! All done at a reasonable price!
