In the area and decided to stop by this bar for the first time -- and definitely my last. I've never been to a bar that automatically adds an 18% service charge just for ordering drinks. I had one beer for $10, one cocktail for $16, and fries for $7. Somehow the total came out to $42, which simply doesn't add up. The bartender wasn't helpful at all and never provided a receipt. When I asked about the total, he said there was an automatic 18% service charge. Honestly, it felt like a joke. He even said the fee was "for staying in to drink" -- which makes no sense. We walked into Tap Beer NYC as a group of 5, ordered food and drinks, and the waitress took a credit card -- never said a word about any cover charge. 20 minutes later, a staff member tells us we owe $20 per person because of a UFC fight on some TVs. Every tap has a special nozzle which only fills into a plastic bottle. In order to have a beer in a cup or glass, it is necessary to fill up a bottle first. I find that wasteful. They do have recycling bins separated from other garbage, so I do appreciate that initiative. They have a beer garden outside with about a dozen tables wrapping around shore parkway and Sheepshead bay road. The service is quick and the pricing is reasonable. They offer any size from half a litter to two litters and pour your beer into a bottle and give you a cup to drink from. I had the Pilsner (my favorite) and then a grapefruit beer which was very light and yummy. The food was great and went along with the beer just perfectly! - the cold smoked fish... I had half of It on my own and definitely did not have a single regret! - the fried bread crackers were definitely a treat and something to get when brought out hot. It is served with a sour cream like dip - the fried calamari was good but nothing to go crazy over - I did not try the fried fish but was told It was great!! Real rip off! Don't be fooled. Worst of all, they charge you a service fee for no reason, whether you use a credit card or not. And why are they charging this fee when they don't serve you? Next, the prices are so high and not worth it. I had to pay $3 extra for a piece of bread to go with my $6 sausage, and an extra $3 for sauerkraut. Furthermore, the options there were totally different than what was on the online menu. No soup at all! Staff very aloof and not very helpful. Beer wasn't bad but $14 for a liter a bit high too and there's a service charge on that! Walked in to explore the new establishment! The concept is great however, they are not ready for five stars. 1. No tasters 2. No music- background sport noice 3. No beer background information 4. Plastic bottles!? No mugs!!! So much potential to be perfect. My friends and I ended up getting beer to go. The ordering process was a total turn off and the atmosphere was very sporty. I am not to familiar with certain beers and asked for a taste and was informed the establishment does not provide tastes. You have to buy the plastic bottle. An amazing beer selection, and pretty good food. The 1st time I went we ordered the croutons that were on display. They were okay, would not order them again. The next time I ordered the mixed nuts, and I'm not sure what the hell I was eating. Would not order that again. Weird food options. Next time I'll stick to an order of fries. My own little piece of heaven in Sheepshead Bay, but they have some improvements to make. Plastic cups for me is a no no. Prices are reasonable. This establishment seems to cater to milddle age white Eastern European men who like soccer. That being said, as an African American Latinx Female, I have not been made to feel uncomfortable. Lots of curious looks, but that's it so far. They need to up their game regarding local beers. Mostly European beers. They have Dog Fish Head and Dilerium Tremens though which is awesome! NYC and Long Island craft beers would be a welcome addition. Katie who works there is very welcoming and polite. This place is a joke, pure amateur hour. We had a group of about 12 people looking to watch UFC 220 somewhere. Several weeks prior, I inquired inside and asked if generally they show UFC fights, the guy behind counter says yes they do. Fast forward to the day of event, I called early to reserve and confirm that the match will be shown, the girl on the phone seemed nice but clueless as to my inquiry, she tells me to call back in an hour when the boss gets in. I call back, the boss says yes they will show UFC but it'll be broadcast in Russian from some web stream. Long story short, we show up and order a bunch of stuff, at 10pm when the UFC was supposed to start, all of their TVs were showing some other sports, not at all UFC as promised. I inquire, guy says we're having technical difficulties we're working on it. 10:30pm still no UFC being shown on TVs, 10:45pm same story, talking to the boss was pointless. As we all started to get up and walk out in frustration, UFC comes on their TVs and immediately the screens freeze up in a buffering mode, hilariously frustrated we leave and go watch at Draft Barn, but at this point we've missed most of the matches. The owner/manager has a horrible attitude. If you're not a beer connoisseur and have no idea what beer you like or don't like, you'll be treated abrasively as in "how dare you not know at least 50 beer types, their origins and chemical properties off the top of your head, hurry up and order, we're too busy for a novice like you." You order beer at the counter, pay at the counter, and bring it yourself back to your table, yet they charge automatic service charge like 15% on everything they didn't actually serve at all. It's served on those flimsy paper plates that disintegrate after two minutes of use... they only have cheap plastic cups/bottles, and the prices are stupid high. They have Brewery equipment inside the store, it would be cool for them to start brewing which they told me they are in the process of pursuing.
