I had a freaking blast at this banya. If you're not familiar with the culture you're in for a real treat. First of all, it's not cheap. $60 just to get in and that doesn't include food/drinks...which by the way, happen to be pretty good as well. Look, you don't come here for a culinary experience, but if hunger strikes, it's nice to know you're in good hands. There's a main pool and three different saunas/steam rooms, and plenty of seating around the pool. However, come early because it fills up. I have to say, the service was great. Knowing how my fellow Russians can be, I wasn't expecting much. When we got there the woman asked if any of us have been before and gave us a whole rundown and how-to. I'm also surprised at how clean it was. They have locker rooms, fresh towels you can exchange whenever you want, and showers everywhere. The women's locker room even had blow dryers. Look, at the price tag of $60, you get a whole day of relaxation. It's worth it. As far as the food is concerned, their sukhariki are great. This Banya totally rocks! It not only has excellent saunas (2 rooms of dry heat and 1 steam room) but has a good sized pool and a fabulous restaurant. The saunas are clean and well maintained. I was there with my friend, let me tell you I was very very surprised by the level of courtesy at this place. starting from front desk girl Anya, to a big security guard, to all the way that I met and all the other stuff that works here. everyone is extremely pleasant, and they try to accommodate your needs. facility is pretty clean, sauna is nice ,a Russian dry room is nice, restaurant service is excellent. and the quality of food is pretty good. This is the food I order..... - Siberian Pelmeni: It's a dumpling in Russian version. I thought dumpling is an Asian type of food but I think this dish got flowing around because if you look at the would geography, Russian is actually locate in Asia, next to Mongolia, China and Kazakhstan so I assume that some kind of food are carrying by people who move of migrate in the past. - Salad "Chu Chuk": mostly tomato with onion and jalapeno. The food is good. The service is usually okay. Went yesterday with a friend and WOW.... but unfortunately not in a good way. There were young boys there making way too much noise and splashing in the pool. The place is meant for rest and relaxation. What took it over the top was when I asked the lady at the front desk to see the manager atter them having spoken to the kids about being too loud and she told me, hold on, let me go tell their dad. The same dad that was sitting and watching the group misbehave the entire time. Needless to say, the issue was not resolved until they left on their own and were not asked to leave. I came for a day of relaxation and ended up being mocked, followed, teased and splashed at by these poorly mannered kids. It's not a playground and I didn't come there to watch or discipline someone else's kids. The BANYA should have done a better job addressing this issue. Came here Sunday at 3pm. Russian speaking people make up the crowd. Your demographics include predominantly thirty to sixty year olds; we were the only people in our twenties. Weekends are obviously the busy time when everyone wants to relax, so be prepared for sitting very close to strangers in sauna rooms. If you want to avoid the crowds in this tight space, come in the evening, after 6pm. That's when the space clears out and you can snag some seats by the pool and enjoy your visit without overcrowding. Weeknights are also the best, as not a lot of people frequent the baths afterwork. $50 per person entrance, no kids under 10 allowed. You leave your valuables at the front desk in a ziplock bag and get a key and a lock for a locker. Separate changing rooms, one for women another for men. The changing rooms are clean and in good condition. Only three showers, so you might have to wait for others to finish their business if you're leaving right around 4pm, when a lot of people decide to leave. Complementary rubber slippers are available for those who forgot theirs at home. Complementary towels are available in abundance, so no need to bring your own. After changing, go to the main area that includes a pool and plastic tables and chairs around it for you to sit. Not enough seating for everyone, so if you come during peak time like weekend day, you won't have anywhere to rest in between sauna and swimming. There are three steam rooms available and a cool pool to dive into afterwards, to cool down. There's seating around the pool. Very limited though (around 40 people total), as already mentioned. Two Russian style steam rooms (with brick mortars that warm up the room) and one Finland style (with clear, white steam). You can purchase veniki if you forgot your own. A refreshing feeling to dive into the pool right after you detox in the steam rooms. Extensive menu of food and drinks available at additional charge. Typical Eastern European dishes like kebabs, chops, meats, sandwiches, salads, mashed and fried potatoes. You can spend the whole day, eating, drinking, swimming and being merry. Overall, a good experience if you're looking to relax, detox, and destress. Time flies by when you're steaming yourself, so allow at least around 4 hours for a thoroughly reviving time. read more

Been coming here as a kid with my father and brother. The food is always on point. The vodka is always cold. For everyone complaining about the staff being "rude", I never experienced any rudeness even on the busiest night. It's not easy managing everything going on, keeping the place clean, and making sure the drunk folk don't bother anyone. The place always looked and smelled clean when I was there. One of the waiters, and young guy with long hair in a ponytail was super helpful, informative, and quick to tend to our requests. Last time I was there I had a great time. It was crowded and the staff was overwhelmed but that didn't stop them from accommodating us and getting us a table. Had a nice table full of food and cold vodka. The only draw back was the water from the pool kept splashing by the table when people would dive in, and we had to protect the table from getting pool water on the food. I saw a good diverse crowd of people, not only Russian speaking, the staff can be curt or short, but not rude. I think some people just don't understand Russians lol. Best to order is the "suhariki" or croutons, the salty fish, salo fatback, steamed potatoes, soups always on point, and ice cold vodka. You do get some unsavory characters but that's infrequent, and most of the people are very friendly. Great place to make business connections of all kinds. Hope the feds dont wire the place, but you never know. Overall the place is 5 stars +, kudos to the staff keeping it running smooth and clean like a well oiled machine. Definitely not happy about the $65 admissions price, but it's one of the best places I've been to, and it's a family tradition to visit this place. read more

I've been coming here infrequently for the past year and a half. It's consistently an amazing time. You can relax in the steam rooms and saunas, then sit by the pool and drink delicious fruit tea and eat Pelmeni and vareniki. The chicken cutlets are crazy good too. I could spend all day here and I love getting to meet people from around the world. It's definitely pricey, but I feel like the experience makes up for this. This place truly has the best Russian food in Brooklyn. I can't say enough about the feeling to which this place makes you return constantly. Warm ambience and friendly staff will make you feel like "at grandma's house". Home style breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very simple but clean. Saunas are constantly maintained. Really kind of disappointed with my visit here. I was expecting something like the Russian bathhousees that used to be on Coney Island Avenue and McDonald Avenue. This place was much smaller and had less to offer. After paying the $50 entry fee I was given a lock and key for the locker. I brought my own slippers and large towel so I did not have to use the rubber slippers and the small towels provided by the bathhouse. The entire bathhouse revolves around a large cold pool. There is a restaurant & juice bar and from which patrons are strongly encouraged to order. I had eaten before coming here so was not hungry. I started with the small steam room. That was soothing.Then dunked into the cold pool. That was very refreshing. Then I looked for the hot tub. I learned that there was none! I tried out the other two sauna/steam rooms. They become crowded very quickly. One of them had a couple making out with each other right next to me. The other had a guy dancing around on all the benches with one of those big leaf brushes. I left that one pretty quickly. There is no way to relax around the pool since the passage is narrow And people are constantly walking by. I tried to relax on one of the loungers in the small room off the restaurant but the odor of cigarette smoke was very strong coming in from the "smoking section". I know this place is meant for lounging around and spending the day. However I could have left here after 15 minutes. BTW if you do come here, bring your own bath products for the shower. Attorney for the Baths, Oleg Mestechkin, in letter to NYS AG, (5/14/24) advises that a "... new, yet, non-discriminatory policy..." was adopted to restrict entry for customers who "due to their age and predisposition to negative effects of heat have a high probability of being injured on the premises...." Effectively those considered too old or too young will not be admitted though no age limits are specified. Of course anyone regardless of age can run risks by staying too long in sauna or steam room, but there is no evidence that the elderly are at particular risk. Indeed, the elderly benefit disproportionately from dry and high humidity heat. As young people, the spa in its wisdom turned away a 14 year old --see comments-- who was accompanied by a responsible adult. In sum, arbitrary and capricious discrimination. A hearing scheduled in June with the Attorney General's office. In the meantime if you are turned away call the Baths or Oleg Mestechkin at 212-256-1113. read more

As the temperatures plummeted back down into the ungodly 20's I made like a Russian and ran to the banya. Tucked into an obscure alleyway between a gated lot and an apartment building, you could almost miss it. But trust that all the locals know where their neighborhood banya is. HUGE, HUGE plus was the cleanliness. This place might be decorated a bit like a 1980's social club in Europe; however every surface is spotless. The women's locker room had all the amenities - shower gel, soap and shampoo dispensers in each shower stall. They provide you with as many towels as you need/want and plastic slippers. I brought my own footwear and larger bath towel, as what they give you is rather tiny on coverage. Bikini clad and ready for some steam, I made use of the sauna and steam rooms across from the pool. There was a more "hardcore" dry heat room that many an older Russian made a bee-line for. Among the many super friendly, happy to accommodate male staff members, one kept checking to see if my friend and I would be interested in doing the platza treatment. We declined a bunch of times until the manager came over and said he wanted us to try the platza on him. Two platzas for the price of one and I thought "do as the Russians." It was an interesting sensation being raked and beaten with a bunch of wet birch leaves. The leaves emit astringent properties that benefit the skin and encourage detoxification. The last part of the experience is having a bucket of cold water dumped over you. Takes your breath away, but your skin is tingling and you feel.....umm, ALIVE! After 3 1/2 hours, we left feeling recharged, supple and starving - the one thing I didn't try here was the food; just fresh juice and water. The manager and his counterparts were all happy to have "taken care" of us and said I should come back tomorrow on the house. Oh, how I love their "hospitality." Needless to say, I am making this a bi-weekly tradition regardless of sweet discounts or otherwise. Banya does a body good! read more

What a great experience my girlfriend and I had! We started off getting a poolside table and settling in having left our valuables at the front desk in our own lockbox and our clothing in our lockers. We started off with a warm, hydrating and delicious beer stein sized fruit tea with a bunch of fresh fruits in it, as well as honey and sour cherry syrup. Then, we went into the first of the steam rooms and enjoyed it thoroughly. (Hydrating beforehand was smart!) Then, we went back to the table and ordered pelmeni (dumplings) - 2 types - one order of cheese and one of potato with sautéed onions on top. They tasted great. We then had Stella and HB beer on tap and accompanied it with awesomely seasoned croutons and smoked salmon. The beer readied us for some delicious spicy shrimp. Then, we were quite content, relaxed and pleasantly full. We left shortly before they closed for the night (they close at 11). What a great time! Can't wait to return. read more

Great Russian Banya with a good restaurant. It is pricy, but so are most "spa" like places. Admission is $45 (although I remember back in a day it was $20-25, but that was decades ago). It has been renovated while back and is looking great. There are hot drys saunas - great heat and plenty of space. There is a west steam sauna - good way to start and clear out the respiratory system. Pool is full-size and good water temp (bit on a cool side, which is good for taking a plunge after sauna). Overall the place is very clean. Locker rooms are clean and spacious. Restaurant has russian food staples of very good quality, and one can sit in restaurant while wet in a towel, so don't need to fight for a poolside table. Would recommend to any old-school comrades, as well as, adventurous Americans looking to experience a taste of Russia or just to get a relaxing day with healthy sauna. read more

I've been to a few Russian baths in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the past, this one is just like those. Truly Russian. An experience! There are two different saunas, a steam bath and a fairly large refreshing pool to swim in. In between sweats you can have a drink or tea and delicious food at your designated table.
