Run don't walk to at least experience once this authentic Russian bathhouse. Three saunas, one steam room a Jacuzzi an icebox and two cold plunges. Bookings are done online for 4 hour windows at a time. You must bring your own supplies unless you want to pay for rentals or use what they have. This place is the epitome of self-care and relaxation. The service is OK unless it's crowded in which case the wait is pretty long. The saunas are a good size but become an issue to access when there are a lot of people. You will feel amazing and will sleep like a baby . Highly recommend !

It's a nice place as always but they have changed things up when Covid first hit and kind of kept up the rules that are beneficial to them. Towels are limited so if you like to use these up this is not a place for you. It's rations here. So you have to think if this is a good time to dry yourself off or just air dry. They also limit you to 4 hours which is OK if you are used to other spots but I like the whole day type of access. Food menu is limited, shrimp was good fried. They also offer boiled one. The lady at the front door is very rude. Lady acts like she is doing me a favor, allows me to pay them for access to the area. I would recommend Neck Road one as the only one left in Brooklyn where you are not nickeled and dimed and still feel authentic. BTW. I have been coming here for 20+years but it's only getting more and more limited. They do have a nice outdoor area as well.

There's a main pool and three different saunas/steam rooms, and plenty of seating around the pool. However, come early because it fills up. I have to say, the service was great. Knowing how my fellow Russians can be, I wasn't expecting much. When we got there the woman asked if any of us have been before and gave us a whole rundown and how-to. I'm also surprised at how clean it was. They have locker rooms, fresh towels you can exchange whenever you want, and showers everywhere. The women's locker room even had blow dryers. Look, at the price tag of $60, you get a whole day of relaxation. It's worth it. As far as the food is concerned, their sukhariki are great. We had silotka, shashlik, vareniki, salad, and plenty of tea. Everything was good and they even serve complementary strawberry cucumber mint water and it's so good!

Before coming, I was frustrated, having called Nowadays several times on both Thursday (I left a voicemail because they are NOT open) and Friday (no answer during open hours). So I sent an email. I received a response from Nowadays staff late Friday evening with only a hyperlink and unclear info. My original email was also forwarded to the actual owners of Hot Box. They promptly answered my email and gave me clear written directions, a hyperlink with updated info, and a direct phone number to call to communicate with humans...winning! That evening, I called & spoke with the upbeat empathetic owner Paula. I received such wonderful customer service that I was intent on supporting WHATEVER project she and Jackie had going on! My girlfriend and I were psyched about coming to a "tiny house" sauna. It's housed in the backyard of the restaurant Nowadays in Ridgewood for now, but moves to various spots around the city. After registering, when your time slot is ready, you will go to 1 of 2 zip-down, enclosed changing cabanas to slip into your swimsuit and slippers. You are given a long black or short teal robe for warmth/ coverage, and escorted up onto the porch (no shoes) and into the sauna where fresh towels await you on the bench. There is an outdoor shower for the warmer months, and a fire pit for the cooler months. There is also cold ginger lemon water for your sipping pleasure. There are 2 enclosures in the sauna that vary in temperature, to cool down without having to leave the sauna. The hottest section can comfortably hold 4-7 people, the warmer section 4-6 small-thighed folks. The porch also seats 2, and is VERY Instagramable, if you're about that life! All in all, it was absolutely wonderful. Between catching up with my girlfriend, chatting with our sauna-mate, giggling with the owners Jackie & Paula & staff, and hanging at the fire pit, the time FLEW by! So I would advise booking at LEAST an hour. But there is happy hour pricing before 10pm when they are open, so Frugalistas also get to rock out! The spa floor is on the third floor of the Howard Hotel, and upon entering--you're promptly greeted by the concierge and a super lush and cooling lobby. When you check in with the clerk in the hallway, (who was super nice btw), you have the option to sign some waivers, but I save some time by signing documents on my phone on the way. The whole floor is rather zen, except for the cleaners you can hear outside your room. You're welcomed in by refreshing scents, think Byredo or OUAI. We booked the 1 hour dose for two and were promptly ushered to our private room, which included the infared sauna centered and the adjacent bathroom to it, with high quality hair products (Redken Acidic Line), Peter Thomas Roth skincare products, and a tea tree body wash. Included was a hair dryer, some face masks, and some takeaways provided by some of the sponsors they're currently working with (eye masks, etc). Staff started the timer for an hour and we were left to our own devices in the dim, soothingingly calm lighted room. You are able to play your own music if you connect to the speakers but I thought it was fun to just vibe out to their own chill techno zen-yourself-out music. I loved how the sauna experience came with some cool wet towels and face wipes, as well as a ice cool water canister in the corner to refill as you please. The sauna itself was exceptionally clean and well kept. Since I don't experience this often, I found it most tolerable when I took frequent breaks outside by walking around or just refreshing myself with the towels provided. I was piqued when the staff notified us afterwards that there's a 15% discount when you book your next spa day with them right after your appointment, and that deal can be started anytime you come in. I felt refreshed for the rest of the day, despite being in this heatwave and perusing around LES/Chinatown afterwards (which is usually rather overstimulating and sweat inducing). I'll def be back--the time passes rather slowly, and it felt like one of those little luxuries that set the pace for the rest of the day. Exceptional experience with friendly staff, upscale facility, and affordable cost.

I had…read morebeen to the King Spa in Niles, IL several times and absolutely loved it, so I was expecting a similar relaxing experience. Unfortunately, I left feeling completely disappointed and more stressed than relaxed. I went on a Monday morning hoping to avoid crowds and have a peaceful day. Things started off on the wrong foot almost immediately. While I was simply checking the size of the uniform, holding it up to see if there was a difference in the width, an employee came over and snatched the second pair out of my hand as if I was trying to take something I shouldn't have. It was not a great way to start when I had barely gotten in the door. Next, the layout was also really confusing. The spa is spread across multiple floors with different sections and stairways, but no one explained where anything was or how to navigate the space. I spent a lot of time in the morning trying to figure out where I was and it felt like I was nosing around someone else's house: uncomfortable. The biggest issue, though, was communication. A woman in the locker room offered my niece and me a deal for two massages for $140 ($70 each) and asked me to send the money through Zelle. I sent $170, including what I thought was a generous tip of over 20%. She arranged the appointment, but I didn't confirm what type of massage I wanted. I foolishly assumed they would ask before starting. We had lunch beforehand - the food was delicious and the portion was huge. Unfortunately, they don't offer to-go boxes, so I needed to reschedule our massages in order to finish my meal. Before even finishing my meal, I went to the massage counter to see if we reschedule our appointments. A younger patron helped translate at the massage desk, but she needed my time slot and took it for herself. She told me the woman would help me reschedule and then left. When I tried to figure out my new time, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. I was given time without being asked if it worked for me, and when I asked about other options, I was told there were none. I would have cancelled but had already paid, so I took the L. When it was finally time for the massage, we were taken back without anyone asking what type of massage we wanted. I realized my mistake because it was a much more intense massage style and is not my preference. At that point though, after so many rushed and uncomfortable interactions, I honestly didn't feel comfortable advocating for myself to tell them I wanted reflexology. The final issue happened while I was changing before leaving. The same woman who arranged the massage came over and told me I hadn't paid enough tip. I was confused because... it was a tip. She told me I owed another $20 and (to add insult to injury) that I couldn't get my license back from the front desk until I paid. That brought the tip to over 35% on a service I didn't choose and didn't enjoy. I came to King Spa looking for rest and relaxation, but instead left feeling like I had spent my hard-earned money somewhere that never quite felt comfortable and certainly not welcomed.

On this one, I can't say I'm convinced it does anything. Sure, the overall space is nice and 'zen'. The salt room itself, very 'pretty' with all the various white/ivory/peach/pink/coral/orange shades of the salt walls. The feeling of salt crystals under your bare feet? Nice. Relaxing chairs to sit in. But at the end of the 30 minute session, did I feel anything special beyond the fact that I just 'relaxed' in a pretty room for 30 minutes? No. Note that the salt room can also hold up to three clients at a time, which means they have the potential to charge up to $87 for three people, for just a 30-minute period. That's $174 per hour for a room that's filled with salt. Where no personal or hands-on service is provided...just clients 'sitting' in a room. I guess they also disperse 'saline aerosol' into the room while you are sitting in there. I'm not exactly sure what that is, or how it's supposed to be beneficial to you but then it begs the question...is it the saline aerosol that benefits you and/or some type of 'energy' that is supposed to come from the salt itself in the room? I don't know...I just have to wonder if this salt room thing is nothing more than an (unproved) trend that they are going to milk for all it's worth, until the next wellness trend comes along. When I first arrived and was eventually directed to the room, even though they knew it was my first time there, I was given no real direction or expectation...just told to go on in the room. (Typically you'd expect some type of introductory language...'we pipe saline aerosol into the room...this provides XYZ, etc'). I also found it odd that at the end of the 30-minute session, the woman working the desk simply came to the room and opened the door without warning. No knock, no 'bell' to let me know the session was over...just her, suddenly opening the door. (Typically at personal service places like that, they would knock on the door first, or ask if it's ok to enter, and especially considering I was in the room all alone, i.e., maybe I was in the middle of taking a weird selfie when she just opened the door?) Maybe next time I'll give the infrared sauna a try and see how that goes...but as for the salt room and just sitting in there, I don't think I'd spend my money on that again. It so happens that at the time, I was starting to feel quite sick with a bad cold. Other reviews here seemed to suggest they felt 'relief' from a cold. I felt no difference in anything, after my salt room session.

There were 3 plush chairs in the salt room. It was very bright and warm. The session later just…read moreunder 30 minutes. By the time I was relaxed enough the session was over. However, I enjoyed the experience. I would frequent Modrn Salt and explore the other services they offer if I lived or worked in the area.

Having encountered technical issues utilizing our credits on the website, I called in and Sky was incredibly kind, patient and helpful, spending almost 30 minutes on the phone with us to make sure we get our booking right. The rooftop was full for our 3:15pm check-in time, but organized and everyone we encountered was cool and respectful. The pool wasn't quiet by any means, but people were there to relax and hang with friends vs. party. Brittania was an outstanding host, making sure everyone was comfortable and had what they needed. There were plenty of towels and slippers even though a regular told us it was the most crowded he has seen it. There's not a ton of shade and not every daybed comes with an umbrella, so definitely be prepared with sun protection. The snack & drink selection is awesome. Plenty of delicious and reasonably priced snacks, natural wines and NA beverages. Love the water stations throughout-bring your water bottle! The baths were hopping but I didn't have any trouble finding a spot in the pools or saunas. Definitely check out the Aufguss and cold plunge-such a cool experience! The pools aren't as varied as Aire but the salt water pool was the only one I really missed. It would be very helpful if the pools and saunas had some signs or descriptions. The ladies locker room was hectic but well-equipped. All and all a great experience and I hope to visit again soon.
