I had a lovely time during a private event on a Sunday. There were 9 of us who enjoyed this lovely city oasis. Liz was just lovely, and she and her team made sure we were comfortable and even helped procure some coffee for us. This spa isn't the glitziest, and if that's what you're going for, this is not your place. But if you want something down to earth and full of pampering opportunities, this spot is a great option. I really enjoyed the hot tub and steam sauna, in particular. A few friends partook in massages, where they came out truly looking like happier, different people! The steam sauna, hammock, and cold plunge were other features that I also used though spent less time doing - still glorious. There are lockers, a shower, and lots of nice products you can use, as well. I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for some nice pampering and indulgence without feeling so out of place. WOW!!! What can I say that hasn't already been said by all these amazing reviews! I spoke with Liz (who was so warm and lovely on the first call) to book the couple's Staycation package for my 1 year marriage anniversary with my wife. In true Man fashion, I only called 2 weeks in advance, which for a place like this I was sure would be too short notice. But Liz and her team made it work and squeezed us into the schedule on our anniversary day. I was so excited leading up to the day of the experience, as it was a surprise to my wife as well. When we arrived Liz and her team (shout out to Alyssa, Jae, Sara!) were so warm and welcoming, and explained how the experience works. It's important to note that my wife and I only get massages on vacations, which is barely once a year, and never really do anything in the realm of 'relaxing' experiences, so we were newbies to how this all worked. We were given comfy slippers and a tour of the facilities, which include rain showers, steam room, sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, hammock, lounge area, and a variety of hot/cold drinks (tea and infused water) and snacks (strawberries, nuts, etc). We spent the bulk of the first 2 hours enjoying the steam room and hot tub. We could only last in the sauna about 3-4 minutes! And then lounging in the sun on the nice wooden loungers. Instead of fully relaxing, we may have talked shop and work the whole time...oops. Liz said if that's what we find relaxing then it's ok (thanks for understanding, Liz!). We applied the clay mask to each other (very romantic) and wife pointed out how my non-use of sunscreen has been affecting my face. We had the whole place to ourselves and it felt like a private oasis. I was wondering if you'd feel strange being essentially in the backyard of a townhouse, but it felt so private and peaceful that it didn't bother me at all. When it came time for the hour-long hot stone massage, we took a quick rinse and laid under the pergola, ready for Liz and Sara's magic hands. They are STRONG! We both felt like jello after, having all our stress melted away (I think Sara called it 'steamrolled' which is hilarious). It lightly rained during the massage, and since the pergola was covered, we didn't get wet and the sounds were an amazing experience. All in all, a truly wonderful experience and I am so happy I found cityWell Brooklyn. Thank you from me and Tiff for being part of our special day. It's a cute spot. Small, but they use the space well. I had THE BEST massage ever. Seriously, amazing. Beware, if you book a massage in "the loft" it means you have to walk out onto the street in the skimpy little robe you've changed into, walking past strangers to get to the next-door apartment where the massage takes place. It's a quick walk, like 15 feet, but awkward! The hot tub is also lovely, as are the saunas. Staff is friendly and attentive. And they have yummy citrus water and iced tea, and oranges and strawberries! read more

I appreciate this place (hence 4 stars) and generally recommend it. You can read other reviews to understand their facilities but I'm writing this review to manage your expectations. Just go in with your eyes firmly open. There may be a lot of mosquitos or bees in the backyard. There may be stressful conversations happening near the spa area that could alternatively be happening inside - away from paying customers. Your couples-massage masseuses could have vastly different styles, so you will need to flip a coin on who is getting punched and who is getting lightly oiled. Your spa attendant may forget to remind others to wash before going into the hot tub, and while there are signs (pointed so you'd have to be in the tub to really take it in) it may distract you knowing some people won't know to do so. Your spa attendant might completely forget there is an included alcoholic beverage because they don't manage their time well doing add-on services and you then down a glass of sparkling rose in 6 minutes after having to ask an attendant who arrived to close the place down. There may be construction noise during the day. There will definitely be only two settings on the jacuzzi, very very light bubbles and bubble assault. Some positives - no one in the community hydro has stained my experience and everyone who works here is polite and cheerful and typically has a caring vibe. I like their free products fine, and appreciate they added a cold plunge (but which honestly had a lot of leaves/dirt in it the last time I was there). There may be cats lounging about. I will still go again because there simply isn't another place like this. But it is a luxury-priced experience for me and I'm honestly not sure if the cost is quite equal to the experience. If you have a job that requires intensive time management and multi-tasking I'd only recommend it as a backup because your brain might not be able to turn off. read more

Need some self care? This is the place to be. I had no idea if I would like this place because I've never been to a bathhouse before so to try it out I booked a happy our session for their Hydrotherapy service. Happy hour prices allow you to book a slot for 60 minutes to enjoy what CityWell has to offer. They only allow two people per slot, so you can book alone or with a friend. I love the set up of this place. It's in brooklyn and it's basically a hidden gem, you can literally walk past it, I think this adds to the peace you experience while you're there. I was asked to sign a Covid waiver and then given a tour of the facility before I was left to have a relaxing day. Make sure you bring a swim suit and some flip flops. You can purchase a robe to rent for $3 dollars and a face mask for $3 dollars to add to your experience. There are rain showers indoor and a steam room as well as a cool space outfitted with plants and books. They also offer lemon water, tea, almonds and tangerines. Outdoor is beautiful and remind me of the island with the wooden cabins, shower and chairs. I started off with in the steam room and it was my favorite part of the place. It was suggested to use the steam room first to open my pores. I then headed to the sauna and for my first experience in one I literally didn't last more than 5 minutes in there. I don't know how people do it. I made use of the outdoor shower and then headed to the hydro pool. This place is super relaxing, I felt so light and free when I left. I cannot wait to come back and maybe get an outdoor massage next time. P.S masks are required indoors. read more

I have not even tried this spot and I review is solely based on the customer experience of trying to get an appointment. The customer service is horrendous! For a place that is a wellness spa and massage location, they really know how to start the customer relationship on a bad note. I have a got a generous gift card for this place for our engagement gift so my husband and I tried to finally make use of it this coming weekend. I called to see if they had any availability for either Sat or Sunday. The person on the phone responded with a hard no and said that the only opening they had was 3 weeks out so I said that we would just call back in a few weeks to see new availabilities. The next day, I get a call from the spa with asking for someone ( wrong name) so I said that they might have called me by mistake but that I did call yesterday for making a reservation for 2 people. The employee then said that they now have an opening for 2 people ( first he had only mentioned 1 and changed it to 2 people once I mentioned) for Saturday 1 pm. So I said I will reserve for 2 people a 90 min full body luxury massage ( which was how it was described on their website ) and he said ok. Then he called me again and said that he wanted to let me know that it's a typo on the website and that it's actually only 60 mins. I am so confused to the mutiple back and forth on inaccurate information. If it's stated 90 mins on the website for the last many months, a good place would honour that for good customer service and they did not so I decided to not make the appointment because I did not want to go to a place that seems like a in honourable business when it comes to having so many inconsistencies and not sounding apologetic at all! This place is so, so lovely and leaves me on Cloud 9. I've been here twice - once for acupuncture + hydrotherapy, the second time for a community yoga + hydrotherapy event. I'm fairly new to saunas/spas but the staff is so welcoming and makes you feel right at home. The space is so lovely - you wouldn't think you're in the middle of gowanus - and makes you feel so at peace. Woah! Woah! Woah!!!! Another reason why I LOVE Brooklyn sometimes! I was feeling down and called my "usual" spa, but was told they were totally booked. Came to good o' yelp for some recommendations for new places to try and Ooooo La La, citywell Brooklyn came up. Reviews were great and being the curious being that I am, I checked out the website, liked what I saw, and I booked a treatment(city well signature massage) with Liz. Just LOVELY if I had to sum it up! So I arrive and get a park on the block (YAY! because parking looked scarce). I was greeted by Liz and was given an intake sheet. I looked around and headed to the back to grab a seat, and filled out the form while Liz was giving a tour. She met me in the back and I too got the tour. Quaint and boutique of course inside...and the backyard, you wouldn't believe...Total oasis! The setup, the concept, the energy, it was allll there! Anyway, we chatted for a bit and my treatment started. Liz provided options on the oils available, which are also made by her. Soothing, warm table, calming ambiance. It was great! The right amount of pressure, her caring energy, the stretches, the stones, the breathing really took me there! I drifted in and out until my time was up :-(. I felt renewed! Just what I wanted and NEEDED. Liz was great and her energy and vibe is just so infectious. Since I was a first time client, I felt like I got the gold star treatment. I received water, tea, grapefruit, and almonds as I just looked around and really ingested such a wonderful place in Brooklyn. Liz said its been 10 years...labor of love, and let me tell you, I FELT IT! Kudos to Liz! This is an amazing place to really be able to unwind and relax. I'm so over joyed my guy found this place and brought me along for the ride. The second I walk in it, it felt like a different world. The feeling of welcome flooded over us, also peace. It's really hard to find a place that would really cause me to forget the outside world for some time. Honestly the best I've felt in a while. Was able to celebrate my birthday here with a small group of five people and had the entire spa to ourselves. It was such a lovely experience even after a snowstorm. We were taken care of by the owner Liz who had prepared tea for us and gave us a tour of the facilities. While the showers are inside the steam room, whirlpool and sauna are outside. This makes for a great Covid friendly space. You also get flip-flops and robes to be able to move around in. After being in the hot sauna for about 30 minutes it felt really nice to come outside to the cold snowy weather and hop in the whirlpool! I am 100% recommend if you're looking for a little relaxation or if you need a little retreat while being in the city! read more

This is a little Brooklyn haven found off the beaten path. I've always come for community hours. I love being outside when it's cold outside, so having access to a hot tub, steam room, and sauna in the dead of winter is one of my most favorite things about this place. The summer is nice here too, you just have to remember to stay hydrated in the heat. The staff here is extremely nice. They always talk with a low, calm voice. And when I come here feeling the stress and anxiety that I do, they always add an extra layer of comfort and ease during my short stay. They offer lemon/mint/seasonal ingredient infused water, hot tea, and usually small snacks of fruit and/or nuts in the morning. It's such a lovely touch. The showers are open, but there's still a level of privacy, and each offers an array of really-great-smelling body washes, shampoos and soaps. I generally only see other women here during the community hours, but when I do see men, they're usually fairly respectful about space. The last time I was here, any time a woman wanted to get into the hot tub, the two men (who were in a sort of business meeting) would vacate the hot tub out of respect. There's also a hammock, a chair swing, and a patio for yoga and/or stretching. There's also a strong belief in serenity. You talk slowly and quietly. The idea: escapism from an erratic schedule that you leave at the door. I can't say enough good things about this place. read more

I came to this spa for a Staycation for 2 with my husband and we came home super relaxed! Lauren and Liz gave us some of the best massages we have experienced (and we have had many!) Along with house-made aromatherapy sprays, custom facial clay masks and a tranquil space, they really treat you like a VIP here. The look of this place is great. Yummy snacks, tea, lemon water, etc... Problem was the sauna/steam room situation. The sauna outside was just not hot at all. Tried to go in several times throughout the 2 hour visit and it never warmed up. The temp said 60 degrees at the warmest. My friend and I realized that the way it's built, there are holes everywhere between the wood so on a cold day there is no way the heat would stay in there. We kept trying techniques to warm it up but it never happened. It needs some kind of insulation. The steam room is great, just be careful because ur butt will literally get scorched if you sit on certain parts of the bench. If the sauna actually worked I would totally come back. cityWell is a WELL deserved treat :) Intimate indoor and outdoor space that really captures the importance of energy, nature, balance and minimalism. I booked a private well day package which means that I got the entire space to myself---a major perk and very unique to other spa experiences I've had. From the indoor showers and steam room, to the outdoor lounge area, shower and jacuzzi, I felt so comfortable and at ease in the space. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the layout and the experience for guests. On top of having a completely satisfying experience, my highlights include the aromatherapy experience ( everything is infused with their homemade blends) and the outdoor foot soak. The products and scents throughout the space were thoughtful and fun to use. I had a very spiritual moment toward the end of my visit and am grateful for that. Can't wait to come back for more! This place is an absolute oasis in the middle of the city! I went during "open" hours on a Sunday and there was about 10 others there. Between the Sauna, steam room and whirl pool it didn't feel crowded but it's definitely not a private experience either. They have water, tea, berries and nuts on offer for you. Blissful urban oasis and an absolute dream!! I booked a 45 min massage as a Valentine's Day gift for my boyfriend, and the 45 min steam, soak, sweat for myself. Everything from top to bottom of the experience is heavenly - from the beautifully appointed treatment room and facilities, to the tranquil outdoor space. My boyfriend was even running late (NYC am I right?) and Liz was beyond gracious, still accommodating his full massage. He's training for the Boston Marathon and said he wants to make visits to Liz a part of his training regimen :) while he was having a massage I had the most relaxing time to myself after a long week. I actually like this place a lot, the facility is so cute, but I've *never* been able to book a service outside of open hours. I tried to reserve a couples massage before my wedding through their website. The form wasn't working properly and my request did not appear to go through (buttons weren't "clickable" & never got an acknowledgement or anything). 3 weeks later, a couple of days before my wedding, they called to tell me that the website had actually booked me 2X for the same service, date & time. I really wish they had made any attempt to contact me about it earlier. Obviously I'd made other commitments the week prior to my wedding. I thought one bad website experience was probably a fluke but unfortunately it seems to be a habit... I wanted to have a private event and submitted 2 separate booking requests through their website, first about 3-4 weeks ago and again last week. Never heard back from anyone until I called today and was told that they booked another group for the date I requested, even though I submitted my original request earlier. Apparently they don't have someone monitoring their inbox regularly. Honestly, I'm half expecting someone to call me in a month and tell me they actually did book me. I've been BEGGING CityWell to take my money. Why put a request form on your website if it's essentially useless? Please figure out a better system. read more

I came here with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We'd booked two massages together but they ran short a massage therapist. So they kindly gifted us access to hydrotherapy-- steam room, sauna and hot tub so that while Liz worked on one of us outside under a pergola, the other got to relax.
