Coco, the person who gave my massage, checked in with me to see if I wanted deep tissue massage. I've been stressed so I said yes. I've been going to prospect heights eastern spa for more than a year, glad to see they opened a sister store here. There's simply too much demand for their great service! This newly opened spa is just as good as the original one. I've been to at least 10 massage places in the city and this one definitely has the best quality of masseuse. If however, you want a really good massage at a reasonable price AND you have a sense of humor, then Prospect Garden Spa is a good option. I went with a friend the week between Christmas and New Year's, and we had called in the morning and booked two massages for the afternoon. They were very flexible and we had our pick of time, but I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance and over the phone (especially weekends or holidays). When we arrived, there was another client waiting. She had made a reservation online but the staff was perplexed. I watched for several minutes as they called the boss and tried to figure out the mix-up. It was almost comical as the phone was passed between the staff member and the client several times before it was ultimately decided the reservation had never gone through. She left, and they gave her a small gift certificate for her trouble. We had the only two masseuses working at the time, and one was working double duty as receptionist as well. He left the massage table five or six times to talk to the walk-in clients. While I sometimes lose track of time in massages, I always knew how much time had passed and how much time was left based on how long he told the walk-ins they would have to wait. "Busy now. Come back in an hour." Then 45, 30, 25, etc. He also talked on the phone at one point, while continuing to massage my friend with one hand. My masseuse also seemed to leave the table a strange number of times -- getting hot stones and towels but also restarting the music? On a positive note, the massage itself was really good. I didn't have any specific needs, and left relaxed and satisfied. We had a holiday promotion of 70 minutes for $55 which I thought was a good deal. The place was no frills, but clean. Overall, it was an experience, and we laughed about it after we left. Came here today for a 60 minute deep tissue massage and 15 minutes reflexology. Thin curtains separate the rooms from each other and weren't fully closed. No real sense of privacy. I requested a male therapist but was given a woman- I didn't feel like she had the same mastery and skill as other therapists I've had at similar places. Many quick, short movements that felt awkward and chaotic. My experience was average, the massage was not super enjoyable, but I did leave feeling more relaxed and loosened up after experiencing tension and lower back pain, so that is a plus. I'd consider going back but would prefer a different therapist. read more

Normally I try not to leave bad reviews because I understand people make mistakes. But I wanted to let everyone know what my experience was with this business. The Five star reviews and the weekday special( 15 min additional foot massage during the weekdays, if you purchase 1 hour massage) caught my eyes and I headed over. When I arrived, I noticed the towel that's supposed to cover my body was damp and smelled moldy. But I let it go, since I don't wanna be a difficult customer. Massage was okay, I have had better, but I tried to appreciate the effort. She seemed to take too many breaks by going outside often, but I didn't mind. But what topped it off was this: in the middle of the massage, a woman who seemed to be the owner barged in. At this point, my peace is disrupted and I am tense, the masseuse and the owner staring at me. The owner asks me to get up and write a five star review on Yelp if I want to get the weekday special. ( I am naked but my underwear at this point) I was extremely irritated, but politely refused to leave a fake five star review and also, the additional foot massage. After that, the masseuse literally pretended to finish up the massage until the time is up. Summer Day Spa is a classic Tui Na place, definitely cleaner than some I've been to with two massage tables to a room with thick curtains functioning as a partition. There's dimly lit with relaxing music on the background. Oh, and the $48/hr deal is pretty sweet. (there's a surcharge if you put it on your CC) The problem is that I got there a the appointed hour, had to wait, and it was definitely at least 10 mins past the hours when I finally started getting my massage. There were interruptions, so I figure I actually only got 45 mins. Also, the masseuse was nice enough but clearly not enthusiastic about her job. I think she thought I was asleep (?) because she just sort of vaguely ran her hands over my legs. Even when she did seem focused, it felt like she wasn't hitting the right spots, you know, sort of like when you make your boyfriend give you a massage. First timer at this joint. Based on other reviews I assume my experience was significantly better than some because I was lucky enough to get one of the better masseuses (whose name I should've gotten...dammit!) So it's 9pm after a long day, my back's hurting like hell, my wallet is looking particularly emaciated, and I had recently moved out of Chinatown (haven of affordable tui na massages from 10am-10pm) and into Park Slope. FML, I thought. But Yelp comes to the rescue and I shamelessly search for a massage place in the area with a price range of "$". This place came up, and I made a last minute appointment. Hence I had expected to be given rushed and less than stellar service (I came in at 9:30 and they close at 10). However I was pleasantly surprised; it didn't feel rushed at all, in fact I have a hunch that I even got some extra time. This is the first 30 minute massage I've ever gotten that actually went over the whole body. Usually for that amount of time they've only focused on my poor back. Of course the masseuse could only do so much in 30 min, but here I got attention to my neck, shoulders, upper & lower back, arms, and even a brief rub down of my legs and feet. So WIN! All that for $26, so I can only imagine how awesome the $48/hour deal must be. Will put that on my future self-indulgence list, when this Brokelyn girl manages to cough up sufficient cash. Also excellent pressure, technique, all that good stuff. What I was particularly jazzed about was that she took my limbs and stretched me out like a pretzel. Felt good for the tenser spots. At one point she said something to me in accented English. It sounded like, "You have nice butt. Very soft." What? Odd, even by my totally-okay-with-being-buck-naked-in-front-of-random-Asian-lady standards. "Thank you...?" I said. (Somehow, sweet little fobby Asian ladies can say anything and just make it sound perfectly innocent.) About 5 minutes later it hit me that the word in question must have been "body." As in, "you have a nice, flexible body, because I am bending you into impossible shapes and yet you're still silent as the grave." Ohhh. P.S. To Asian Tui Na massage newbies...two things to take note. 1) Scared of being NAKEY? Wrong place for you! Clients strip down to their underwear for the massage. 2) This ain't no frilly spa. My new favorite massage place. I have gone there twice already and each time was with different people treated me. They were all professional and with good attitude. I always told them which part I wanted to focus on (I.e shoulder shoulder shoulder) up front and they would listen and emphasize on that part, even more_ they would know the reason why your shoulder hurt so bad and massage the whole back carefully.（舒筋） I went to places like Taijj before, the massage was nice but sometimes the service was really lousy... Depends on how lucky you are. There was one time I gave like 18% tip (sometimes the tip math is just too hard for me) and the girl was so pissed and yelled at me. The massage was good but it was a bad experience in general because of that last 5 mins. Here I will never have this problem (maybe is because I gave 20% tip... $50 per hour, $60 including tip...lol). The staff were all very nice. I always wore my pajama, since I would take them off as soon as I go in... (I live close by) Ask for a card if you will be a regular customer. "Get 10 hrs of service and get 1 hr free" according to the card. It's not just a massage for me, more like a health care. The massage spaces are small and only divided by a thin curtain, but as long as they don't have any noisy clients, it's totally fine. Great place. Well priced. The ladies give great massages and don't get overly pushy about trying to get you to buy longer times or more services. I haven't tried any of their spa/facial services, so I can't comment on those. I am giving 4/5 stars just because there have been times where privacy between customers could be a bit better and also the tables themselves are a bit hard, especially around the face, on certain occasions the hardness of the face rest has been mildly uncomfortable. Booked two 30-minute massages here as a surprise for the boyfriend on Sunday evening. It was very quiet, and the second we arrived they were ready for us. The staff is very kind, but not terribly communicative. They ushered the two of us into the "rooms" (which, as stated in many reviews, are only divided by curtains) and then left. Neither of us had ever gotten a massage before, so there was an awkward lull wherein we were unsure of whether we were to strip down right then or not. Eventually, we figured it out (thank goodness...). My masseuse asked if we wanted a couple's massage, which basically meant that she opened the curtain between our rooms. But since we were facedown on tables the entire time, I guess it wasn't terribly necessary! We were the only two people in there for a while, until a rather chatty man came in. If you talk in anything above a whisper, everyone will hear, but I was on my way to getting blissed out, so I couldn't really be bothered to care. Now for the massage. MAN. For my first massage, this was pretty intense. My masseuse managed to hone in on my crazy tense shoulder/neck area and knead out some pretty intense knots. She began by rubbing out some tension through a towel, then going to work on my bare back and arms. Yes, it was painful. I was pretty much gritting my teeth into the table. But holy hell did it work wonders. She also did some great tension-releasing exercises on my fingers and hands, where I didn't even realize I was keeping tension. She was also able to spend a bit of time working on my butt muscles (through the towel) which was fantastic -- very therapeutic. One of the best things was that when the half hour was up (it really felt like longer!) the masseuse gently asked me if I'd like to go for longer, as my boyfriend's massage wasn't quite complete. I let her know that the 30 minutes was enough, but she still did some minor work on my hands and arms while she waited for the other masseuse to finish. It was really nice of her not to just leave me hanging out there (I've heard from friends who have gone to other spas that some masseuses will just drop whatever they're doing the second the time is up. The masseuses here were very good at following through.) They finished with hot towels (which I could have kept on forever!) and then let us get dressed and go on our way. Massages were $26 each, at came out to about $55 for the two of them together once they were on my card. We had to tip in cash separately, but otherwise there were no hassles. While I don't have anything else to compare it to, I'd say this was a solid massage. Great price, great massage. You can't expect the absolute royal pampering treatment here, but they do what they do very well -- making you feel better. I've been to Summer Day Spa four times now, each time having a different massuese. I'd highly recommend Ana or Ci Ci. There are others that are not as thorough and do not take direction well. For example, I went last night for a 60min [for $48 - a great deal!] massage. Ana is out sick this week, so I was paired up with a different massuese. I asked for feet to be included in the 60 minutes and all that I received was a little rub on each foot for about a minute a piece. I also asked that she focus on a certain part of my shoulders, where there clearly were knots and she kind of just passed it over. Not the best, i'd say. But on the complete opposite spectrum is Ana. I saw her back in the autumn time. She was very focused and listened to my needs. I asked for some attention to be paid to the feet and to my shoulders - she went at it on my shoulders for a good 30+ minutes and got out all of my knots and kinks. Amazing! And the foot massage was stellar as well - a good 10+ minutes [though I asked for this after the first 60 minutes]. I'll definitely be back but only for Ana. And the decor is pleasant - the place is definitely clean [especially compared to some of the places in Chinatown in Manhattan.] Each bed is placed between private curtains which is nice for privacy. read more

Upon recommendation from multiple friends in the neighborhood, I started frequenting Summer Day Spa a few years ago and have had many other friends go since. All are in agreement with me that these ladies are the best! It's certainly a no-fuss kind of place, with only curtains between each massage table, and the occasional phone ringing or conversation happening in the background, but the price for services is absolutely worth it if you're not a fussy person. I work in the service industry and my body often suffers for it. I usually get a one hour massage, and let them know what area is bothering me at the time. No matter who is taking care of me, they always make sure to focus on my area of tension, doing their best to get out my nasty shoulder knots, while still getting to the rest of my body and leaving me feeling aligned. They use multiple techniques of massage, acupressure, and have used hot stones to help ease tense areas. I appreciate how much pressure is used (as long as you assure them it's okay for you). They're always thorough and kind, and have water waiting for you on your way out (an important reminder after a deep tissue massage). I brought my mother for the first time recently, and she said it was the best massage she's ever had, which is saying a lot. I will definitely be bringing her back soon, and will continue to recommend this place to all in need! read more
