Decided to treat myself to a last minute massage on a Friday evening after work. Called ahead and they were super responsive. Booked a slot. Owner did share that there would be surcharges for using a card. Location is clean and accessible. Plenty of street parking. Just be aware that on Fridays from Sept- Nov the street parking is canceled for Open Streets NYC where folks dine in the street so you'll have to use the side streets. Arrived at 4:00 PM and was seen immediately. Amy my masseuse instructed me to remove all clothing( except underwear ) and lay face down on the massage table. I settled in as spa sounds and lemongrass scent helped me to relax into the ambiance of the space . She gave me a dry rub for the first 10 mins ( sheets on). She then applied her first layer of oil and with the right amount of pressure worked out my trigger points and knots in sections. She then applied a second layer of scented oil and gave a deeper level of rub. There were plenty of really painful moments but not because of her. I had been holding a lot of tension in my mid back. Over the next 30-40 mins she worked each area intentionally and then applied the hot stone and gave me a soothing rub for an additional 10 mins leading to the end of our session. I took one star away because in comparison to another establishment, the massage wasn't as complete. There were areas that were completely overlooked, such as my thigh. Also, some practices allow you to add on the foot massage for an additional price. At this location, I wasn't offered that option. If you know about reflexology, you know how important the feet are and so addressing the larger parts of the body and neglecting the feet isn't holistic. I'd probably return but design my package myself ( as much as they'd allow). Again, fairly good massage- just not complete satisfaction. read more

I'm not a big massage person, but of the massages I've received, I think this has been the best one despite being the least fancy. And I don't want them to be fancy! I want them to keep being a simple, straightforward, unpretentious, accessible massage spot that offers killer service. They are very good at what they do. As other reviewers have noted, this is a no-frills establishment and a bit eccentric in that sense, but the prices are a steal, and everyone who works there is kind. Make sure you choose to come here with the correct expectations: You are paying less than $100 for an hour long massage. You will get an INCREDIBLE massage done by someone who is very skilled and professional! But at that amazing price, don't be greedy. You will not get a private "room" (they are separated by curtains, so you can hear everyone around you), everything is a little shabby, and the place will probably be busy and feel a bit cramped. If you consider any of that to be a dealbreaker, this place isn't for you. Which is fine, because the rest of us who like it for what it is have less appointment competition! I went here after dealing with back and shoulder pain for almost a week from sleeping in the wrong position, so I was badly in need of getting some knots fixed. The part where they use the hot stones at the end -- oh my goodness, it was incredible! (I was slightly taken aback when the masseuse straddled me since I wasn't expecting that or asked/given a heads up, but she was completely professional and seriously, the massage was amazing from start to finish.) It took a day or two for the effects to fully kick in from the massage, but once they did, all the pain I had been experiencing went away. So grateful for that! It's very unfortunate I have to rate them 2 stars. Let me start off by saying this was my first ever experience treating myself to a massage. I'm very unfamiliar with the industry and I decided I wanted to give it a go as I've been dealing with a lot of muscle aches from work. This one was conveniently about 17 minutes away from my home and reasonably priced. I paid for a combo online $55 for 40 minutes back massage and a 20 minute foot massage. Now I'll summarize my experience. My appointment was for 5pm, I came in a little early, about 15 minutes, to maybe learn some expectations in this practice or get welcomed in at least. I met a man who was kind, offered me a water, no real guidance as to what I should expect, but he asked if I can wait for my appointment time at 5pm and sit on one of the chairs. No problem, I'm a patient guy so I have a seat and wait. From 4:45pm to 5pm, the time comes and passes, my massage eventually begins around 5:15pm. English didn't seem to be the teams main language and that is totally okay, I'm not the kind of person who feels this is some requirement but I did feel somewhat disassociated from the experience as they would talk mostly only to each other in their language, even while massaging. This unfortunately lead to the experience feeling less personable / personalized. No one even exchanged names with me or asked me what brought me in. The masseuse didn't even introduce herself to me or give me her name, just a hello and straight to the room with a curtain. In total, my masseuse asked me 2 times in the entire hour if I was good. It was fine. I figured they just get straight to business so I'll let them work. The massage was good, they use a cream, and massage all across the back of your body, from neck, to legs, to arms, and ofc back. They use good firm pressure to kneed out your muscles. Some hot towels used, and at one point there was a brief use of hot stones which was nice. And a brief head rub/scratch which was satisfying. Anyways, when the massage finished, my first of potentially many sessions as I'm looking for a place to return to potentially monthly, I probably would've given them 4 stars. Even with my appointment starting 15 minutes late and not receiving a particularly personalized experience. When it came time to pay, I was charged $60 and not the $55 that was shown online. I figured it may just be a fee for using Apple Pay. No problem. I sign the receipt and hand it back. The lady laughs and points to the tip portion on the receipt. While I wasn't necessarily amazed by the experience, I offered to put something in as I'm not familiar with tipping culture in this industry and also, my price already went up from what I originally was quoted. I wrote in $5 so now my total is $65. $10 more than I thought it'd be. Then her face went very serious, maybe even upset, and she began reaching at the desk. I asked if everything was okay and she hadn't said a word. I'm confused at this point. She then takes out multiple receipts, and flips through them in front of me showing other clients who tipped $20 - $30 for their sessions. Embarrassing. I did not intend to insult her with my tip, I tipped what I felt was fair considering my experience and figured maybe if I returned I'd have a better experience. I had the decency in my heart to add a 1 before the 5 to make my tip total $15. I don't however appreciate tip shaming. Had this experience been more personalized, they might've discovered that this was my first experience. I'm rarely one to treat myself to anything in the service industry but when I do, I'm very generous for outstanding service. My total went from $55 to $75. No problem, I gave her a smile and a thank you and went off on my way, she couldn't do the same for me. It looks like they're doing okay for themselves, but I likely won't be returning. To whom I tipped, I apologize if I offended you. But please understand that shaming and or demanding anything of your clients is very inappropriate and tarnished an overall experience that at the very least was good. Not outstanding, but not bad and I would have considered returning to become a familiar face. But that shame at the end won't have me returning. For anyone familiar with this industry, I would say you'd enjoy the experience but if you're new, you may want to consider more options. read more

This was my first massage ever! I came in with my friend after we ran the NYC Marathon (for me, it was my second marathon in a week). She swears by no-frills massage places and we were blown away by the prices for a 90 minute massage! The space is calm and welcoming and we were warmly greeted. I proceeded to get my muscles worked for 90 minutes! I am so sorry to have forgotten my masseuse's name, but she was amazing. She really did a fantastic job working out the knots in my upper and lower body and tending to my poor feet. She was very attentive and asked multiple times if the pressure was too much - it wasn't! After two marathons I needed to be worked! The hot stone portion of the massage was just sooooo good. After we wrapped up, I immediately went home and promptly fell asleep. I recommend bringing cash! There's a card fee that really only comes out to a few bucks more, but if you're ballin' on a budget, that's a good option. These people get the job DONE, I've been here for reflexology, chair massage and table massage, and always come out feeling like a million bucks. I especially love to take a friend or family to get foot rubs together-the chairs are side by side, it's a fun experience. They can get busy at certain points of the day, (as they should, good word travels fast!) they are super accommodating to walk-ins, (I waited about 10 minutes,) but I'm sure they would appreciate a call ahead to check, or make an appointment. Let's just say I arrived with pain and left after an hour massage with the same exact pain :( I wasn't expecting 5 star experience due to the price which is fantastic for an hour I paid 60$ plus a 10$ tip so 70$ total. However it was more of skin rubbing than a massage that focused on getting knots out and massaging deeper into the muscles. I let her know multiple times exactly where my problem area was but for some reason her main focus was on my lower back and buttocks (my problem area was my left middle side of back) so that was a bit annoying and I had to remind her a few times during the massage where my concern area was. Also she didn't use enough oil so the constant rubbing felt more like rug burn :-/ I needed something that focused more on getting knots out and massaging the muscles in my back so def a bit disappointing but she was so incredibly sweet. I'll prob give this place another shot due to the price being so great but with a different masseuse and see if I get better results. Also don't expect to relax much, u hear everyone because it's just closed off with a curtain not actual rooms so you literally hear everything, and they didn't provide me with an essential oils to inhale in the beginning to give a calm vibe. read more

Can't say enough good things about my experience this past weekend. When my 60 minutes was up, I realized I was almost in this trance, like in a state of hypnosis! I've only had this experience once or twice before after massages that were probably 3-4 times more expensive. Best way to describe my massage is medicinal, felt so great after. Definitely recommend calling ahead or booking your appointment on their website esp on weekends. We had our appointment and while we were there at least a few more people walked in and were waiting, all with appointments booked ahead of time. This is definitely a place where they work your muscles so if you're looking for more of a light massage this may not be the place. If I could give this place ten stars, I would. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior. The owner is very friendly and kind, working the front desk. The price is incredible. The rooms are spartan but have all the necessities. But most importantly, the massage was the best I've ever had. I chose the 60 minute massage, which was $55. Cindy could paint the Mona Lisa with a jackhammer. Precision, power, rhythm; there was literally a segment with hot stones that I wasn't even expecting. Felt reborn after. What an experience. I first went to 167 Lincoln Place Spa for a walk-up (no appointment) massage, but they were busy for the next two hours. So that brought me to the nearby Prospect Heights Eastern Spa. It was hands down the worst massage I've ever had. If you like back massages using their Forearms, Elbows, and Knuckles (FEK), go here and good luck to ya. Today was the first time I went to the Eastern BK Spa. I am a hairdresser and massage for me is essential to relieve the pain that my work causes me. Before the covid I was used to going once a week. So I know what a good massage is. And I had an excellent experience, Jenny (I hope I wrote it correctly) has medicinal hands, it seemed that she knew where I needed more attention. I will definitely return, clean environment and with all the necessary precautions. I'm marathon training (again), so my feet and legs are really beat up. I came here for a quick 30 minute foot massage after calling ahead. It was easily the best foot massage I've had. The guy (didn't catch his name) rolled out all my problem spots (ahem plantar fasciitis) and got my calves and even my quads a bit at the end. It was so good. My walk home had me practically walking on air. Only $30, too! The only downside to the foot massage area is that the chairs are right out in the front with no privacy. Once you're reclining and reading, you probably won't care as much, but I hated the idea of people strolling down Vanderbilt and looking in and seeing my wincing pain face. They set me up with a little water bottle after and there's a candy dish, but I declined. Still a nice touch. The front desk lady was sweet on the phone and in person, too. read more

The only thing that I didn't like was when I had finished I was taking out the money I paid the guy for my massage $30 and was finding more money for the tip and he immediately said to me "hey, the tip for her" (he meant the woman that gave me the foot massage) I looked at him and responded "yes, one second" as I was getting it from another bag I was carrying. The girl got closer to me (felt like I was being forced and stalked to give her money) I understand we are in a society where tipping is expected, and I never thought of leaving without giving her a tip but honestly it felt really awkward to be forced and stared at until I took out a $5 to give to her. I have been dealing with sacroiliac pain for months, had seen back doctors, chiropractors, to no avail. Even prescription pain killers and muscle relaxers did not alleviate or lessen the pain. So I decided to try Eastern Spa and after one intense session, the pain seemed to disappear. However, it also seemed to migrate to my upper left shoulder.
