Chaoshan wet stir fried with beef

Second time here and worth a review. Truly feels like hole in the wall. Both times we went restaurant was mildly empty but IYKYK. English menu translation is bit confusing, but the food for sure made up for it. NOTE: the lobster, crab, and fish pricing requires to bring your own! Didn't know about it the first time but was sure to come back with our own fishes the second time around and saw other groups doing same. Came as party of 6, and we each had diff faves from the menu. That's the definition of a solid restaurant! All winning dishes no single unanimous one. Ordered: 1. Mushroom with beef 2. Olive fried rice with shrimp (first time seeing this outside of Singapore what a treat!) 3. Chaoshan wet stir fry beef (beef ho fun) 2. Semi boil fish (bring your own fish) 2. Claypot fish (bring own fish)

Taokay blew me away with their incredible dishes. The raw marinated shrimp was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Both lobster dishes--one with ginger and scallion, the other spicy with chili--were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The quality, plating, and service were all top-notch. Must order ahead for lobster or live seafood dishes or bring your own seafood!

House special.

"Really enjoyed dining here! The staff are very friendly and provide great service. The restaurant is clean, elegant, and has a nice atmosphere. Will definitely come back!"

Food was mediocre at best. Busy during lunch time though, don't understand the hype. Ordered the chaoshan mixed he fun. Meat was inconsistently cooked. Some were dry while some were tender. The oysters were so gross, definitely frozen. Tasted like spoiled seafood. Atmosphere was nice. The AC was also broken that day, hot asf and definitely ruined the ambience. Servers were also very nonchalant. Needs improvement in multiple aspects

The dishes at their restaurant are the best.

The dishes at their restaurant are the best. I always go there on weekends to check it out. The boss never uses MSG or chicken powder in his cooking; he always uses the most natural seasonings

Recommended by the friend of mine, really enjoyed this spot! The food took little more time to prepared but definitely worth of waiting, it came out hot and fresh, and everything had great flavor. Portions were generous for the price. Service was quick and friendly, and the vibe inside felt relaxed but still lively. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm craving fresh hometown food.

Loved this spot! Food was fresh and flavorful (the oyster pancake is a must ). Chill vibe, friendly staff, and prices are super fair. Totally worth coming back with friends!

We ended up getting a set for $168 this time, which came with 6 dishes. It's also $35 per lb for lobster, and I asked for the smallest one. Apparently, the smallest one was 4.8 lbs, which was another $168, so I'm not sure if they upsold me. Anyways, the food was fantastic and everyone enjoyed it. This is what I thought about the food we got. House Seafood Soup - Simple and clean soup. Good portion, and it was soothing to eat. Lots of squid. (4/5) Clams with Spicy Sauce - Large clams with tons of meat, and the sauce was fire. Always a good choice. (5/5) Crab with Salt & Pepper - Loved the seasoning, and the flavors were solid. (4.5/5) Thai Style Beef Stew - First time trying this, and it was good. A bit different, but the meat chunks were tasty and the overall flavors were good. (4/5) Sautéed Pea Sprouts - Nicely done vegetable dish. It's simple but refreshing with good flavors. (4/5) Fried Whole Fish - This dish was gone so fast because it was delicious. Nicely fried and not overly seasoned. (5/5) Signature Lobster - I feel like you have to get this here since it's their specialty. It's pricey, but in my opinion, it's the best and freshest lobster in town. Tons of green onions, seasoned well, fresh meat, and lots of lobster roe. (5/5) Service was good, and they didn't automatically add a mandatory tip for a large party. The total came out to around $364, which is pricey, but the food was phenomenal. Parking - Valet only, but they have street parking in front. I parked on the street since there were plenty of spots on a Wednesday, but I assume it gets busy on weekends.

The popcorn chicken is a must - the portion was huge and the mild flavor was top notch. The beef noodle soup was also solid. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. Atmosphere inside was hip and vibey. Overall, this is a great restaurant and I'd highly recommend others to try their dishes.

To share, my friends and I had the following: - Kurobuta Pork Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao): These were tasty and juicy and I liked how the soup wasn't scalding. I do wish the texture of the dumpling wrapper was better though. - A5 Wagyu Beef Chinese Burger: One of my favorite dishes tonight. I loved the crispy bun and the flavorful and tender meat inside. - Flaky Beef Wrap: Another one of my favorite dishes of the night. It was flaky and full of meat which I liked. Among some of the best beef rolls I've had thus far. - Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles (Kurobuta Pork): These were creamy and good. I like how these weren't too salty. - Dry Pot Cauliflower: Surprised at how good one this was. Textures and flavors were good. Only downside was the pork belly which was kind of hard, but the cauliflower was good on its own. For what we got, the prices were pretty good and reasonable. My friend and I did walk-in on a Sunday night and we waited for around 15 minutes to get seated. The interior was clean and the service was attentive. My water cup was never empty. There's also lots of free parking in front and a bathroom available. Overall, I had a great experience here and would definitely come back with visitors.

I made a reservation in advance and reserved a duck since they require advanced notice. They serve the duck with the skin already sliced, instead of carving in table side like some other restaurants. They also serve the drumstick separately for you to enjoy. They do a pretty good job with the carving so the skin is not too oily, and the meat is nice and tender. It's not the best Peking duck I've had, but it definitely did the job in satisfying my craving. We also got the stir fried beef cubes, the braised pork belly with preserved vegetable and stir fried pea shoots. All were super tasty and delicious. Service is decent for a Chinese restaurant and the restaurant does get pretty busy during dinner. Interior ambiance feels somewhere between a casual vs upscale eatery.

We dined here last night for the first time from a friend's recommendation. The house special crab…read moreand fried calamari were pretty yummy, but not very happy with how our food was handled... One of the dish we ordered was the house special sauce crab with market price of ~$26 per pound. We added the noodles for $10. Normal practice the server should come and advise on the size of our crab before making so we can choose how big the crab we want for our dish, because we're paying by pound for the dish anyway... but within 2 minutes of placing the order, a crab dish arrived... HA! Problem 1: The server originally tried to give the crab dish to the table next to us and the folks refused the dish... then the server turned around and placed the dish onto our table for us. CLEARLY they made a mistake and made the wrong dish for next table and decide to not waste food and gave it to us. We asked if that was really our dish and they said yes... what a lie! The kitchen took 2 mins to cook our dish? haha...dumb! Next table was there before us and their house special lobster noodles arrived 10-15 minutes later. First they made a mistake, then tried to lie to cover it up. No one is stupid here. We would have been ok if they were honest about it and ask if we would accept that dish with no complain here. Problem 2: The table next to us got their plates changed multiple times and NOT once did someone came to check on us about changing plates. Problem 3: Our bill came. They charged our crab as 2.5 pounds. What a joke! I'm a crab person. I know my crabs. That tiny crab is probably around 1.5 pounds - 2 pounds max. (Check out the picture to see the small crab shell and the tiny pieces of the crab legs and meat pieces on the edge of the plate). The $10 they charged for noodles was a huge portion, but that is not the same value as 1 pound of crab that they overcharged us for the dish. The house special crab was pretty tasty and we like the fried calamari. The veggie was decent and soup was pretty weak... our bill was $150 and I tipped $20 for the experience. Be grateful and work on improving your practice
