We dined in on March 4, 2026, and Troy was our server and he truly made the whole experience amazing. From the moment we sat down, he was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. He checked in at all the right times without being overbearing and made sure we had everything we needed. Super patient, helpful, and just all-around great energy. The food though... BOOOOMB. The spicy pork belly was to die for. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and had just the right amount of heat. Definitely something I'll be thinking about for a while. I also want to shout out his coworker, Kaitlyn. She wasn't our server, but I noticed how friendly, quick, and on point she was with her tables. In south shore center, there are of course, a lot of parking so we can skip right through that. On a Saturday night at around 6, there were only around 4 tables and I was seated right away for a table of 2. However, as the night went on, they got pretty busy. You order off an iPad on the table and there is 1 physical menu on each table and a QR code you can scan for a menu if you needed more than the 1. In terms of bonchon, if you want more, you can ask for some, or someone actually comes around with a cart full of bonchon and refills for you if you want. That was my favorite guy walking around. We got cheese corn, tteokbokki and a combo of their tofu soup and galbi. In terms of something that's not all you can eat, it's pretty good. You would think it's a small meal for 1 but it was able to keep two of us full and we had some leftovers to take over. We were debating on the spice level of the tteokbokki cuz some places are crazy spicy, but this one was just a tickle in your throat. Definitely something you can chow down on without worrying about breathing like a dragon. The cheese corn was average, not the worst and not the best but it gets the cravings done. Their spice level is mild and the portion sizes are pretty generous, especially if you get a combo of soup and meat. The bonchon is all you can eat so enjoy that. read more

The food here doesn't seem to coming out pipping hot. The Soon Tofu was decent but not boiling hot enough to cook the raw egg. I simmered the egg and broke up the yolk so it got cooked. The kalbi was pretty good. We also ordered the seafood pancake which was pretty good. My cousin got the marinated raw crab. She said it was good. Service was a little slow and basically just 1 guy running around serving us. He said the other server had an accident so it was a little unexpected. The place got pretty busy after 6pm. Overall I think this place is decent but the price is a little higher than it should be for the quality. There was no one in the restaurant on a Thursday around 7pm. One other party sat down a little after us. It's a trendy place with a large bar area with a large tv that was playing kpop videos. We ordered Galbi, chicken wings, and raw marinated crab. The raw marinated crab was good, that's the main reason we came. I've been craving it awhile. I wish they also offered soy marinated crab. Galbi was decent, it was slightly dry in my opinion but I liked the flavor. The chicken wings were good and there was a decent portion. What we thought was strange was that when we asked for a second round of ban Chan, they all seemed a little old. The potato salad seemed dried out and the radish weren't crunchy like the first round. I think there are quite a few other Korean restaurants I'd pick for dinner but I would object if a friend wanted to come try it out. read more

The staffs were nice. We were greeted and offered seats right away. What we ordered: Seafood Pancake- It was pretty good, a bit thicker than other places and sauce was okay. Donkatsu- The pork was good and portion was good for the price. Pork Belly BBQ- It was a tab dry and a bit bland. Wasn't my favorite. Came here on a Thursday around 5pm, no wait no crowd, only two other parties came in after of us. This place is a popular chain and they have a location in Concord and Hayward I believe. The bonchon was delicious! I ordered the beef tofu stew with a brisket combo. I liked the soup, but the brisket wasn't my favorite. This place was soooo freaking yummy!! Downtown Hayward is glowing up bc of spots like these. My favorite was the Bossam (steamed pork belly) as it tasted super clean but so flavorful. +10 for pairing it with the radish that's included! Their seafood pancake was also super delicious and a must try when choosing an appetizer. This is located where the previous Bowl'd use to be and right across from Ohjane. The inside is actually really pretty, they decorated it nicely. The music is normal KPop with the TV display music videos that don't pair with the music. The lighting is very nice and there's a lot of distance between seating so it's not squished. The booths I would avoid if you're plus size above 18/20 then it'll be super uncomfortable. You need to order through the little touch screen. They're pretty hands off on interaction and don't check on you often unless it's to deliver the food or give you your check. We only ordered the shareable spicy beef short rib jjim. It's not spicy or even close to spicy. It's actually really sweet and we couldn't finish it bc we started to feel sick from how sweet it was. The pumpkin vegetable inside was undercooked. They add bell pepper to it which is the first time I've ever had this dish with. In general every single vegetable served in it was undercooked. We ordered the cheese on top but as you can see from my picture it was only just melted enough to not be formed and about 10min of the dish being served the cheese was no longer melted and just one glob that didn't pull. The cheese was just solid and we didn't bother eating it anymore. The meat itself was actually good if you only ate the meat and take off as much of the sauce possible otherwise it would be way too sugary. The rice was cold and mushy. The banchan itself, only the kimchi was worth eating. Every other part of the banchan was flavorless unless it was the kimchi. The kimchi was actually spicier than the "spicy" short rib we got. In the end, we stopped eating about 25% in because we didn't enjoy the food. From the pictures, you can see what we got, the food was gimmicky and we had to take the rest of the food home to remove the undercooked vegetables and use the beef with a different sauce and actually blow torch our own cheese. I don't recommend ordering any of the beef short rib shareables. It was way overpriced for under cooked vegetables, cold rice and a glob of cheese (the cheese was actually extra too). -1 star for the undercooked vegetables -1 star for charging extra for cheese they didn't put on correctly that it turned solid -1 star for how sugary the "spicy" dish was and how the banchan kimchi was actually spicer than the dish itself read more

We sat outside because we had our dog. It was so windy and cold but they do have heaters outside. Just ask them to turn them on :) it warms up nicely The side dishes - the radish kimchi and bean sprouts were our favorite. We asked them to give us a lot and they came through lol it was so good! Tang Jip's old restaurant name was Bowl'd Alameda -- when Bowl'd told me they are revamping their interior, menu, and food quality... I was super excited, because back then their food quality wasn't the best. With this new and improved Tang Jip, from food presentation and the taste... it definitely improved A LOT! I'm really amazed on how flavorful everything is as well as the portion size! My favorite was definitely their dolsot bibimbap beef and their dumpling rice cake soup! I like coming to Tang Jip for their lunch specials (weekdays 11a-2p), there's a menu for $12 entrees! The staff is friendly, the side dishes are good, and the interior is nice. Seollongtang (3.5/5) - I don't usually order this soup at Korean spots, but this was tasty. It's a milky, rich ox bone broth with noodles and brisket. This taste profile is subtle, it was pretty light even when I added salt and pepper. Soondubu (3.5/5) - Solid soondubu! Chicken Bulgogi (3/5) - Solid chicken bulgogi, could be more tender. read more

We came here on Saturday for lunch. It used to be another Korean restaurant. The whole place looks remodeled. I love the flower light chandelier on the ceiling. We waited maybe 5 minutes for a table. They have ipads on each table for ordering your food. The menu is small so it didn't take long to decide. We ordered a seafood pancake and japchae. They were huge portions plus all the little side dish that came with it was plenty. Food was great as always. We'll definitely come back. We love Korean food. Had the pleasure of enjoying a comfort meal here the other night. The restaurant seems small when you enter but as you walk down the rows of tables, there are actually more seats than you think! I really appreciate how some of the center seats have a a tall barrier between the left and right side tables. Upon being seated, I was offered hot tea or water and opted in for both. Of course I was very happy to find out that it's roasted barley tea, or booricha. It was piping hot, so definitely be patient before you sip on it! Each table was equipped with tablets for ordering so there's no need to wait for someone to take your order. I ordered the Spicy Wagyu Galbi Tang for $23 which also came with rice. The banchan (side dishes) came out shortly after I ordered my meal. They were served in quite large bowls. The banchan selection reminded me of being at my grandma's house. Very simple but delicious. The texture on the fish cake was exactly how I like it too, a bit chewier rather than too soft. My soup came out in about 15 minutes. It was served with two big beef ribs! The presentation was lovely with the shredded eggs and beef bones sticking out on both sides. The beef just about slid off the rib bone when I took my chopstick to it to try a piece! It was very tender, but a bit lacking in flavor. The broth itself was also a tad bit watery for my taste. I do think the portion size was worth the price. I did come maybe an hour and a half before closing so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for the soup itself. read more

TJ takes the place of the old Bowl'd restaurant in Southshore and revamped the outdoor seating area with a blue awning and interior with a colorful glass and painted top wall divider. TJ offers Soups, Stews, Sizzling Platter Meats, Dumplings on a simple two page menu. We had Kalbi, Pork Belly, Seafood Pancake, KFC, Japchae, Spicy Pork, Tofu Soup and Cheesecorn. Tang Jip took over the old Bowl'd location at Southshore in Alameda and we're excited to try for the first time. But disappointed. Food is just not very good, and there's a lack of workers / service here. First - I made a reservation for a party of 16. Upon arrival, they don't have my reservation. Luckily they are not that busy, so the gentleman quickly assisted and organized a long take for me. (in the end, we only had 12 due to a few sickness). Ok - so the tables are set up now with banchan at each table. Great job so far. The staff really made it happen. :) Now on to the food - they are all really just OK - very average. Banchan: The banchan are SAD looking. The banchans were 6 dishes of sparingly placed few pieces of items of this and that. upon tasting, they tasted just looks the way they looked... dry, cold, salty. The banchan is usually my favorite part of Korean dining and this was off to a bad start. And typically... bad banchan = bad food. :( Ordering: There's a few older folks at the table so it was not intuitive to them to order from the iPad at each table... and the lack of service staff did not help, as the 2 for the entire restaurant were busy running around and have no time to explain. Anyway, after some explaining from me to my large party, we managed to place the order. The food: orders came out rather quickly. Though some dishes came out entirely out of order (e.g. also ordered first out). Most dishes, except for the tofu soup and the cheese corn, came out luke warm and not hot. Should be piping hot. No, not even the galbi spareribs on the sizzling / non-sizzling platter. With a large restaurant with such a high ceiling, the food turned cold almost immediately. Flavors were so-so, and I mainly tasted just salt on everything. There is no complexity or fragrant in flavors, just salt, and not even spicy hotness. Overall - a mediocre experience. I like the TJ in Concord so may give this location another try. read more

Didn't eat purple rice to leave room for banchan & broth. -soup ok. Bland tasting beef strips expected-all flava went into broth. Green onions & thin noodles also present. Took awhile to finally place our order and to flag someone down when we needed something. The side dishes could be a lot better. They looked and tasted bland. We ordered the following: Galbitang - This is one of my top favorite Korean soups, but it was a total disappointment. The radish was sour, which made the soup sour. We assume it went bad, so we asked for the soup to be taken back and ordered a tofu soup instead Tofu soup - We were debating between beef or seafood, then we were told we could do a mix of both. We weren't aware it costed more to do mix until we saw the bill. Flavor-wise, it was decent then started to taste more salty Bibimbap - We got beef. This was okay Bossam - This was actually really good. Great flavor. We saw that it didn't come with lettuce, so we asked for some. They brought out a plate with three small lettuce pieces.. When we got our bill, it wasn't updated to reflect the tofu soup. When we asked to get it fixed, they brought back the bill with the updated item with an extra item added on there. Finally got the bill right on the third try. I always thought this restaurant was in an ideal spot at south shore. Spacious indoor seating. I'm not sure when the restaurant changed from bowl'd to tang jip, but I'd give it more time to make some improvements. The waitress took my drink order as soon as I sat down, and when she came back with it, she also brought the menu. I ordered the chicken katsu. The chicken and sides were tasty--unfortunately, my chopstick skills aren't great, so I had to use a spoon. And let me tell you, trying to eat a salad with a spoon is almost impossible. lol. The decor is different from the former restaurant as there is a decorative glass divider between the two sections of the restaurant. Service is attentive. Came here for a family lunch with our two aunts and 4 of us order the bibimbop, one chicken katsu and me the japchae with tofu. Our aunt ordered the soy garlic chicken wings and they were light and crispy. The bibimbop comes with soup and we all had the ban chan. My sister in law has allergies to sesame seed, MSG and oil so the server recommended the chicken katsu as it has none of those ingredients. I was excited to see Tang Jip open in South Shore Center where Bowl'd used to be, since I've been a fan of their Concord location and was happy to have one closer to home. That said, this visit left me a little disappointed. The menu here is more limited, and I was bummed to see my favorite cold noodles dish wasn't available. We ordered the Donkatsu, cream shrimp, and seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was doughy and could've been cooked a bit longer. The cream shrimp was tasty, but the standout of the meal was definitely the Donkatsu which was perfectly crispy and not dry at all, which was a nice surprise! Service started off strong but tapered off as the meal went on, which made it harder to get attention toward the end. I'm glad Tang Jip is in Alameda and I'll probably give it another try once they've settled in, but for now, it doesn't measure up to the Concord location. read more

Was surprised to see Bowl'd is now Tang Jip but still part of the Ohgane restaurant group. Even the interior of the restaurant was revamped. We saw a sign in the front door and decided to try the lunch specials. There were four of us so we ordered four dishes. We loved the chicken bulgogi and spicy pork. The sliced brisket was good but not quite as flavorful. The Seoullingtang was a big pass -- no flavor at all. The portions for the specials were great and came with banchan and rice. First time here since it became Tang Jip from Bowl'd -- same solid Korean food, same great ambiance, and extra awesome service from the servers. Bossam - perfect taste and texture, and absolutely heavenly with the lettuce, garlic, chives, and sauces, def would recommend! Tofu soup - medium spice and was so comforting. The quality and service of the new restaurant went down since the change. My family came here for lunch on a Monday. We were given a table in the corner however the floor had rice and food. Looks like a toddler sat at the spot and the Staff never swept it. It was pretty bad and I did not want to step on rice. Then the high chair next to the table had food still and it look like the Staff never bother cleaning it for the next baby/toddler to use. It was pretty gross. We asked to sit at another table. We moved to another table but there was rice and food on the booth seat! I ended up wiping the food off with a baby wipe since there was no Staff around. Here are my comments: 1. Dolsot - size of the bowl is quite big however the rice was not crunchy on the bottom and it looks like they did not heat the bowl long enough to create the crunchy texture. 2. Korean pancake - size is decent and dish is overpriced. The pancake was quite soggy and not as crispy. Once I picked it up, it fell apart. I think the flour mix was not mix well. I was disappointed. 3. Ordered the combo with a protein and tofu soup. The server forgot the galbi Jim and we had to ask about it. It's a combo right? How can you forget the protein? I figured the Staff was not good on checking what we ordered. 4. Side dishes- very sad looking. Only 6? The server took our pitcher of water and said he will come back with a refill but it never happened. Also the restaurant was not even busy so not sure how this was forgotten? Overall, the quality and service went down. I will probably not come back. They need to do a good wipe down of the table and seats , and area before the next customer. My family and I stumbled upon this place and had just an amazing experience! Sure the food is a little pricey but overall it's really delicious. We had the pork belly, fried sesame chicken, and Kimchi Jjigae. Everything was so fast to come out and very fresh. The service was attentive, we hardly had to ask for anyones attention as they wanted to make sure we were all taken care of. Further, check my photo for a pic of the ceiling. I love Korean food and was excited reading reviews on this place! Like other reviewers have mentioned, it replaced Bowl'd (some old signage is still up). I came here with my family recently and we ordered: - two kids meals - Korean wings (tangy & spicy) - soondubu & bbq combo - bibimbap with spicy pork Despite it being late in the afternoon, service was a bit slow. It took awhile just to get someone to come and take our order, provide water, etc. But once the food arrived it was delicious! The kids' meal comes with banchan (kid-friendly) and I love the option for mixed rice. The spice level of their food was quite good as well. My husband and I both have high tolerance so we appreciated the kick of spice that the wings have. Their banchan is quite good--my favorite was the tofu. It took awhile at the end to get the waitress' attention for to-go boxes and the bill, but overall we had a nice lunch. read more

Although I didn't have the raw crab, I'll be back for it! I ended up ordering the corn cheese and Dolsot with Galbi. The galbi is an extra $5 and I got 4 pieces. It also came with extra rice on the side. The galbi was marinated well. I really enjoy listening to the plate sizzle so mixing up my Dolsot was a fun experience. I expected the corn cheese to be a bit more melted when served, but it tasted great. The selection of bonchon was perfect- kimchi, fish cake, and raddish were my faves. Our servers kept checking in on us and I saw them checking in with other tables as well to make sure we were all taken cared of. Their weekday lunch special menu is the best deal out there. You get a choice between 6-8 dishes (chicken bulgogi and pork belly bbq has been our go-to) on the daily with prices ranging from $12-16. They do not skimp on the portions either and each meal comes with rice and soup. The banchan alone is worth the visit! For a family of 4 (3 lunch specials and a seafood pancake appetizer), our total came out to $70. read more
