Mais con ube and double matcha
    Rebecca T.

I love how so many cute cafés are popping all over the South Bay, and Tamistea is a recent addition. Stopped by after lunch for a pick-me-up: it is located inside of a strip mall with a good amount of parking, but I can imagine it might be tricky to find a spot during busier hours. Inside is minimalist, but charming with plenty of natural lighting and some board games on the side. It's a Christian-based café, so you'll see quotes and drinks inspired by the faith. I ordered their signature mais con ube and double matcha. The mais con ube came beautifully-presented, and I can see why it's a fan favorite: taste-wise, it was solid, with strong coffee and a sweet ube cream top to balance it out. Not sure if I tasted much of the corn flavor, but in any case, it was really good! Double matcha was good, but a bit on the milky side; perhaps it was the oat milk I'd opted for as the latte base, but it could've had more matcha. Not bad, though! I would return to Tamistea for the mais con ube alone. Even if you're not faith-based, it's still a nice café to come and sit a while!

Tamistea is a newer local Filipino inspired coffee shop with a decent selection of coffees and specialty drinks. They have a very cozy interior and decent parking. Their mais con ube was really delicious, strong earthy corn flavor mixed with coffee and the mild sweetness from the ube paired perfectly with the drink. I will definitely be returning in the near future.

Their latte was enjoyable but their matcha was a bit watered down. As far as the drinks we tried, nothing stood out as exceptional enough to rave about, but it also wasn't offensive so it's all a matter of personal taste. The pastries we tried were also pretty good. These things can be modified and improved and I know they'll tweak things and only makes things better and I can already see from the reviews that many people love their offerings. The service is friendly. I truly, truly wish them well. I do disagree with the notion that it's a good place to work or study because they do not offer restrooms. I feel like a good coffee shop (or at least a coffee shop that you can work and study at) gives you at least that option.

Maganda Ka to that Ube Latte I had. The croissant was special, not just a regular croissant, it had a texture and flavor and season that I enjoyed. The Smores Cookie was just good, actually, it was great. The décor was original, with style, and yet still comfortable. There were many seating options but I just had to sit at the smallest table and smallest stool for the experience. There is a water station. The parking was great on this early Saturday morning; the parking hot here is shared among many businesses. I support the Women-owned businesses and I hope this café does well. My experience here was excellent. ***Please listen to the song I am parodying, "Sweet Thing" by Mary J Blige.*** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EjZF88vqNU&list=RD6EjZF88vqNU&start_radio=1 While you are reading my song parody portion of my review below. I've been meaning to try this spot since they opened I'm so glad I came! It's in a small shopping center with plenty of parking. There's some seating inside, we came late on a weekday morning and there was none though. The menu had a lot of great unique drinks so it was hard to pick but the barista helping us was super friendly! The mango matcha was super refreshing and light, a great summer drink overall. I also really enjoyed the Pandan and loved that it wasn't too sweet. The Ube cookie was one of the best cookies I've had as well. I'll definitely be back to try the coffee!

I really like this spot that open in the South Bay. I struggle to find coffee spots and tea spots in the area that I like. Parking is plenty as well and there is a cozy sitting area in the store. The workers were quick and helpful. I really like their ube foam since the flavor is concentrated. Their coffee is strong as well and their corn flavor in both the matcha and coffee shines through. Definitely would be a go to spot for me now. Only thing different is to ask for less sweet next time.

Great choices of matcha and coffee, flavors are Filipino inspired. The staff was very nice and good at making recommendations, especially since they noticed many flavors caught our attention. I got the Buko pandan matcha, it was great, fresh and I tasted the creamy authentic coconut flavor. My boyfriend's coffee was great, reminded us of a dirty Ube latte but with cornflakes, great flavor! The environment is very friendly and positive, we loved that there were games to play together on our coffee/matcha date. Parking lot can be a little tight at times, depending on the time of day. Wished there was more dessert options maybe in the future like Turon! That would be a great addition :) We will be back!

I think I ordered the wrong drinks lol. So I'll probably have to visit this place again in the future. This is a new coffee shop that opened up recently in Torrance. I heard great things! We got the milk and honey and the banana bread latte. Both drinks were just okay. The milk and honey tasted like a normal iced coffee with milk in it. The banana bread latte had a nice foam top to it, but the coffee underneath it was essentially identical to the milk and honey. The foam top was tasty but rather thin. Each drink/sip was met with a taste of the foam but quickly overpowered in volume and taste by the iced coffee beneath. The service was good. Really nice and polite. The barista highly recommended the banana bread latte and I was quite excited to try it. I think I'll try out some other popular drinks next time :) The ambiance is what you'd expect from a coffee shop. It's a nice place for studying and socializing. There's a decent amount of parking available too so that's a plus.

Looking for a mom & pop place to support that is Christian owned.. look no further. A great mix of faith and culture all in one experience! Loving the Filipino drinks that remind me the Philippines! Great place to catch up or do some studying.

Finally got around to trying Tamistea and I'm impressed! They have games, plenty of space for sitting and hanging out, and of course COFFEEEEEE. I tried their mais con ube latte because as a Filipina I have to try ube from all the Filipino spots. The ube cream top did not disappoint. The sweet corn milk was creamy and yummy, tasted like cereal milk and that's one of my favorite flavors, to be real. I forgot that there would be bits of corn in the drink so just be aware of that. I'm eager to try their banana bread latte and matcha pandan next time. I could totally see this as a spot to hang out after school or to do some WFH action when you're sick of being at home. I love the vibe and the barista that helped me out was helpful in offering up some of their popular drinks. They also had a couple mancala games which I love to play!

What an adorable space for a coffee shop! I love finding these small businesses that offer unique flavors in their drinks and cookies/ pastries. The owner is a Filipina entrepreneur and that shows in the flavor choices in the drinks and goodies. As my first time there, I like to ask what their signature drinks are. They actually have a section on their menu called "signature drinks" After debating in my head what was going to be my first choice, I opted for Turon Kape. This was an iced drink, be sure to mix the drink for the flavors to meld. I also got a few cookies to bring home for family, ube, champorado, and chocolate chip. Cookies came out warm and were delicious! Everyone was friendly and personable! Plenty of parking available in the strip mall. I will definitely be back! Salamat!

First time visiting! I've been meaning to try for awhile. Local business with a strong team behind them. The menu is short and sweet and the pastries are unique. Loved my Isla Refresher. Plenty of parking in the plaza. Might be hard to miss if you're driving fast. Seating and board games inside if you want a place to hang out. Seems like a cool place to do work as well. Friendly service and humble people. I would recommend!!

I was so excited to find out that there was a new coffee shop opening up in Torrance! As a big coffee fan, I've been loving all the coffee spots popping up lately. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this new coffee shop is Filipino owned! Double happiness! Being a Filipina, Tamistea was definitely one I absolutely wanted to check out. I came during soft opening and loved how they had a good selection of pastries and drinks. All the cookies were $4.50 and the croissants were $6. I chose to get the Mais con Ube iced coffee ($7) and a Ube White Chocolate cookies ($4.50). Being an ube fan, I was definitely happy to see these ube offerings and hope Tamistea will offer more Ube offerings in the future. The Mais con Ube had a nice layer of ube at the top of the drink along with some sprinkles of corn flake. I loved the sweet ube and the strong coffee, though I wish they mixed better. The ube layer mostly stayed at the top. Overall the coffee was enjoyable and I definitely want to try more of their drinks in the future. The Bethlehem Bliss and the Milk and Honey Drinks not only sound intriguing but sound delicious too. The Ube White Chocolate cookie was a great deal at $4.50. The cookie was huge! The ube flavor was subtle but the cookie was still really good. It had a soft, chewy texture and a nice buttery, sweet flavor. It made for the perfect pair with my ube drink. Overall I am thrilled to have Tamistea in Torrance. It was my first visit this past weekend and it definitely won't be my last!

So first things first, be aware that this Paris Baguette is actually inside Hannam Chain Supermarket at Village Del Amo on the southwest corner of Torrance and Hawthorne. I didn't know it at the time, so I circumnavigated the plaza, looking for Paris Baguette signage like I usually do for the other standalone locations. After stopping my car somewhere in the plaza, I had to double-check the location to be inside the Hannam Chain Supermarket, which I had just literally passed by minutes ago. D'oh! lol I hadn't even heard of Hannam Chain Supermarket, so I took some time to explore the store even though Paris Baguette is literally closest to the entrance. The overall selection of baked goods kind of disappointed me because it felt like there were fewer choices of pastries here compared to the other locations I've been to before. However, oddly enough, they had more selections available! I think it's because they have time stamps listed on each pastry so that the pastries are inside the display case for no more than 4 hours. I thought the pastries would have remained good at least until the end of the day, so to hear of their 4 hour shelf life was a bit surprising to me. For the record, I've been to several other Paris Baguettes before, but this was the first time I noticed these time stamps. Even though the variety of pastries was not as much compared to the other standalone locations, I still had a difficult time deciding which pastry to get! However, I noticed a new flavor of a supreme croissant I hadn't seen before: pink velvet. I've heard of red velvet, but not pink, and presuming that this is a seasonal offering for Valentine's Day, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to try one before that special day. They had other supreme croissant flavors like chocolate and salted caramel pretzel, but I'm sure those flavors will be offered for much longer than the pink velvet. I do remember trying a strawberry supreme croissant from the Cerritos location, so perhaps after Valentine's Day, that would take the place of the pink velvet. After grabbing one of two Pink Velvet Supreme Croissants left in the display case, I made my way around and to the register. Phone in hand, I had the Paris Baguette app pulled up to redeem my reward. Actually, a good part of me had thought that this location inside Hannam Chain wouldn't honor my reward because for Tous Les Jours, the locations inside Hmart wouldn't be eligible for earning points or redeeming rewards. Luckily, Paris Baguette is not Tous Les Jours, and I was able to redeem my reward with no trouble. The cashier who rang me up was pretty friendly as well. She placed my Pink Velvet Supreme Croissant in a small paper bag and wished me a good day. While there are a handful of tables inside the food hall portion of Hannam Chain, most were occupied by customers of other eateries, so I simply went outside to enjoy my free sweet treat. The pink velvet ruby chocolate that covered the top portion of the round croissant didn't have nearly as much flavor, though the Valentine's sprinkles on top did make for a nice touch at least. Also, the custard cream inside didn't taste like anything at all! It wasn't bad, but it makes me wonder how much more flavorful the salted caramel pretzel would have been. I'll be sure to get that on my next visit to a Paris Baguette! I got the croissant about 2.5 hours after they were prepared, so maybe they would have tasted better had I gone 2 hours earlier? Lastly, I'm kind of shocked that this is pretty much the only Paris Baguette location in the South Bay. With how expansive a city like Torrance is, you would think they'd have at least a second location elsewhere like in Hmart. Otherwise, the next closest location would be in Long Beach, which literally just opened at The Pike Outlets. Overall, it's not a bad Paris Baguette to go to, but if you live in the South Bay, you'd be better off downloading the 85C Bakery app over the Paris Baguette app as there are much more 85C locations in the area. Also, this Paris Baguette may not necessarily carry your favorite pastries here, so heed caution if you plan to go out of your way to visit this patisserie.

Would come back forsure just for the blueberry croissant, it was so addicting we got more to-go. Also they have restrooms inside too.

I usually…read morestop by an 85 when I don't want to spend time searching for and vetting a new bakery, especially since I know they carry items my parents enjoy. As I was out with my family, I decided to stop a safe choice, and 85 was the bakery of choice. It has a wide variety of breads, pastries, and drinks. Their selection is broad enough that no matter what you're in the mood for, you'll find something, whether it's savory, semi-sweet, or fully sweet. This location was smaller than the 85 I usually go to, but definitely not the smallest I've been to. The staff here were super friendly and even helped me with the promotional codes that were available at the time.

My absolute favorite item is their Portuguese egg tart. It is honestly the best Portuguese egg tart I have ever had. The crust is perfectly flaky and the custard is rich, smooth, and not overly sweet. It is one of those items I crave and come back for again and again. The service is fast and friendly, even when there is a line. The staff keeps things moving efficiently and is always polite and helpful. The ambience is bright, clean, and modern, making it a comfortable place to grab a treat or sit and enjoy your pastry. There can be a wait depending on when you go since it is very popular, but it is definitely worth it for the quality you get.

Did takeout from Hamadaya Bakery, which is attached to Mitsuwa Market, and loved it. It's a quaint,…read moresmall bakery, but there are so many options - everything from katsu sandos to a great selection of Japanese sweets. We picked up the Boloniya Bread (small, $9.95) and it was amazing - super soft, rich, and lightly sweet, the kind of bread you can enjoy completely on its own. We also ordered two drinks: one matcha with matcha jelly, and the other almond milk with matcha jelly. The matcha itself was high quality and good tasting, with a really nice ice-to-matcha ratio, and the jelly had a soft, silky texture that wasn't overly sweet. Everything worked really well together. Being connected to Mitsuwa Market is a big plus. There's a great food court with plenty of indoor seating and a large outdoor patio, making it an easy place to grab food, meet up with friends, and hang out for a bit. The food court also offers a variety of options at reasonable prices, which adds to the overall appeal of stopping here. Even as a quick takeout stop, this place really stands out. A great spot when you're craving quality Japanese baked goods and drinks.

Review #908 2025-083…read moreOTM Club 11/20/22 - 11/26/22 (sold out, missed OTM redemption) Food Order: Melon Pan & Raisin Danish I originally came to Hamada Ya Bakery to redeem a comped Cream Puff via OTM Club, but it was late in the day, about an hour before closing so they were sold out & other baked goodies were limited. Since it's not technically an "off the menu" item, I was hoping the bakery would be flexible to substitute the cream puff with something of similar pricing -- nope. According to other reviewers, they often sell out by the afternoon so you need to stop by in the morning to get first pick. I was here with my LO so couldn't leave empty handed & perused the shelves for anything interesting. Just to be on the safe side, we picked a raisin danish (can't go wrong with that) & melon pan. Not sure if it's late in the day or what, but both were pretty stale tasting... I spritz both with a little water & dropped them in the convection oven, which help restore some of the danish's flaky exterior while warming the interior, the melon pan's crust was toasted & sort of melted, but made the interior fluffier & warm. The raisin danish was ok flavor-wise, while the melon pan lacked flavor (too mild; crust lacked sweetness). Hamada Ya Bakery is located in Mitsuwa Marketplace at Del Amo Fashion Center, just off to the right upon entry. While there's plenty of parking available, the spaces near the bakery/market are often full. The bakery is really small, & cannot accommodate 2 people in the cramped aisles. Moderate to slightly high price points for a Japanese bakery. I typically visit other Japanese bakeries in the South Bay, but if I happen to dine at the market's food court or shop in the market, I will browse the bakery for goodies. I'm hoping to try their popular pudding that I keep missing because I'm often here late in the day.
