JJ Bakery is located next to a good Boba drink location. Walked in here and it reminds me of another bakery I went to a few weeks back, it has a lot of the similar Pastries and Cakes. The people working here were nice and helpful. We picked up a tray and a pair of tongs to select the pastries we want. The pastries are light and fluffy making them easy to eat, I wish there would have been some seats to eat the pastries insaide or outside, strictly to go,
The name reminds me of/as if J.J. Evans from the TV show "Good Times" owned a bakery instead of becoming an Artist! Haha! This place has been here for a while now and it's located in a nice, ample parking filled strip mall that is FREE to park at all the time. To me, this is like a way better, cleaner and more organized version of Valerio's, but of course; in their own way. It's like a mini 86 Degrees, but in its own way as well. JJ has its own snacks and pastries, so it makes for a great alternative to the other Asian bakeries around whenever you want a variety of different choices. Their sponge cakes and cheese anything stuff are always a hit. Also,their cakes are like a great alternative to King's Hawaiian and other places too! Customer service is always a plus, because they're very very helpful and chill.
I ordered a strawberry crème brûlée cake over the phone after seeing pictures online. The person who took my order was very courteous and answered any questions that I had. The cake itself was beautifully presented with fresh strawberries and a few blueberries. Inside was a white cake with a layer of pudding. I couldn't tell what the frosting was made of, but it wasn't too sweet. The price for the cake was reasonable at $38.75. It served 10 and we enjoyed it. We ordered a couple other pastries which were ok. There was also an assortment of cake slices which could be purchased, as well as various cookies. The bakery is located in a strip mall in Crenshaw near Sepulveda Blvd. Parking was plentiful.
I always come here for celebration cakes! I love taiwanese food! The food is fresh and the pastries are delicious in my opinion. The selections of breads and cakes aren't overly sweet nor bland. The whole cakes can be ordered via phone or in person but has to be made 24 hrs in advance. So let's not rush them, give it 48hr with pickup date and time if possible. The store is always clean and the staff is always welcoming. I will continue to come grab my much needed cake selections.
We come here occasionally for the cake rolls ("watermelon" slice is novel to us) and pastries and happened to be in the area on my mom's birthday. Figured YOLO let's get a cake and drive 15 miles back. Got the most decadent looking one because we shouldn't pass up the opportunity. I need to say wow what an experience. It's like a typical Asian cake with traditional filling (taro and red bean) but not enough to make it weird. I'm not a fan of beans in general (red bean is just ok) and this was very nice. Just enough to add a little texture to the taro flavor. Also all kinds of different fruits on top. Feels luxurious! My parents & bro tend to be on the "ew cake, frosting has too much sugar" side but they all got seconds and finished it. Brother NEVER gets a second slice and he was like, yeah give me another, this is pretty dang good. Would buy again.
Entering JJ Bakery is like entering a room full of pillows after a strenuous day. Every pastry has magnificent flavor and variety, which keeps you indecisive until you finally need to make a choice. The service and staff are super friendly and will have you thinking why you've been going to millennial coffee shops in the first place.
JJB has a good selection of cakes, bread and pastries. I have tried their bread in the past. Good quality. Today"s visit was for my mom. She wanted Tiramisu ($20.40). I asked my mom why she likes the cakes at JJB. She said their cakes are moist and not overly sweet. Service was friendly and prompt. There is a lot of parking available. However, there's been time when parking has been challenging.
Yesterday, I stopped by JJ Bakery to pick up a birthday cake for my friend, and I'm so glad I did! After browsing through all the beautifully displayed options, I settled on the Vanilla Taro Cake--partly because taro isn't something you come across every day, and also because at $33 for an 8-inch cake, it felt like an excellent value. At first, I was a little hesitant since it didn't look quite as polished or elegant as some of the other cakes (like the gorgeous red bean taro pudding cake), but the staff assured me this one is a customer favorite. I decided to take their advice--and what a win that turned out to be! The cake itself was everything I hoped for: light, moist, and not overly sweet, which is exactly what I look for in an Asian bakery-style cake. The taro paste in the center was just the right amount--smooth, flavorful, and perfectly balanced so it enhanced the cake without overpowering it. Everyone at the party loved it, and honestly, I think it was even better than cakes I've had from other popular spots like 85°C. Since our group has had more than our fair share of cakes from Tous Les Jours and King's Hawaiian, this was such a refreshing and welcome change. The Vanilla Taro Cake made the celebration feel special, and I can already see us coming back to JJ Bakery for more birthday cakes in the future. It's rare to find cakes that are both delicious and a great value, but this one absolutely checked both boxes. Parking: Super easy--classic plaza-style parking, which made the whole experience stress-free. Candles: They included two free red candles, which was thoughtful, but when I asked for extras, they said no. For comparison, places like Tous Les Jours sometimes provide a full candle set and a lighter, but maybe that's why their prices are higher. Just a tip--bring your own candles if you'll need more than two! Overall Experience: 9/10. I'm docking one point for the limited candles and the cake's presentation not being as eye-catching as some others, but everything else was excellent. I'll definitely be back for more cakes here--as long as prices stay this reasonable, JJ Bakery is going to be my go-to.
Fair prices and a great variety of pastries and cakes both individual slices and whole cakes. Came in during the rain and it was still somewhat busy. The quality of the sweet breads is good. I tried the strawberry square and although pretty the cake was dry and sweeter than what I would predict for an Asian bakery. Can't wait to true the strawberry crème brûlée and the matcha roll. Would love to come back for the sliced bread.
The Service: Angelina was helping me at the counter. Friendly & helpful service. Very welcoming. She was very efficient & multitasking. Great customer service! The Pastry: Their pastry totally reminded me of my childhood in Taiwan!! Very authentic Taiwanese pastry & bread. So many different varieties to choose from. Can't wait to go back again! When you enter the bakery, you find yourself sorrounded by so many options ranging from cakes to small baked goods. The cashier's wait at the counter after you select your favorite treats. There are savory treats, small and tasty for lunch and sweet treats that are perfect to have for desert. I also love their cakes on display, so colorful and filled with decoration. I have tried a couple of them during birthdays and celebrations. They make their cakes perfect, smooth and soft. As for the baked goods, I would say that I wished there were more savory options. Always fun visiting this place. Toms of fresh baked goods. They have some amazing cakes and prepared foods. My favorite here is getting the prepared stink tofu! Staff here are quickly and friendly! Get the mochi with black sesame filling! The white bread is also delish!
wanted to grab a cake for my mom's birthday came in here to check out their selection i've heard their cakes are not on the sweet side, which is exactly what i needed they had a good selection of cakes friendly service and prices of whole cakes were fair i was not confident that they would make the cakes fresh if i were to put in an order for the next day i just had a gut feeling but i placed an order anyways, hoping for the best i came back the next day to pick up the cake. it was boxed up nicely. when i opened the box in my car, it was the same cake as displayed the day prior the edges of the cake were so sad looking i exchanged it for another cake, the vanilla with red bean taro. it came with two candles and a "hbd" sign my mom said she enjoyed it, but to me it was dry and i wont be getting a whole cake from here again but! i did grab a few of the red bean pastries and a chocolate roll. both of those were delicious! great bakery for picking up asian pastries also very clean and organized :) parking: located in the torrance star plaza, lots of parking but on the wknds it gets pretty busy but you can park in the adjacent lot

Very affordable Asian bakery with a variety of cakes, pastries, bread, and also mooncakes since it's Mid Autumn Festival soon! Nice spot to get mooncakes to gift as they come in nice gift boxes. The prices are so affordable and there's such a huge selection of items. The strawberry mochi is huge and filled with cream, cake, and one strawberry. The cream was a bit too thick/sweet for me overall but fun to try. The staff were very friendly and accommodating! read more

This evening, I specifically ordered a red bean and taro cake to celebrate my mother's birthday. After dinner, we immediately took out the cake and cut it. However, the very first bite tasted sour. When we smelled it more closely, there was a strong spoiled, sour odor. It completely ruined the mood of the celebration, so I decided to leave this review to make the owner aware of the issue. Was there a problem with the refrigerator temperature? Did the taro filling spoil because of the hot weather? Or had the white cream gone bad? This was extremely disappointing. I sincerely hope the management takes this matter seriously and thoroughly checks the storage conditions, ingredients, and freshness of the cakes. read more

Does anyone in Torrance realize how lucky you are to live so close to JJ Bakery? Oh.My.Gosh! Visiting a friend in the South Bay. A GREAT excuse to pick up a few desserts. Pre-ordered the strawberry & Hokkaido to insure they would run out. Strawberry mochi, of course, were chewy on the outside, whole strawberry enrobed in whipped cream. Yup...tastes as good as it looks & sounds. Hokkaido mini cakes-fluffy sponge cake filled with whipped cream. Powdered sugar dusted on top for a bit of sweetness. The thing with most Asian desserts, is they aren't super sweet. Just a hint of sweetness. Thus, sponge cake, with whipped cream, with powdered sugar sounds overly sweet. It's quite the contrary. The egg tart(HK version) & the Portuguese egg tart were yummy too. The HK version with flaky layered crust & the Portuguese with pie crust. Just one critique...no box for the egg tarts? I was in a hurry & didn't notice till I was in the car. A box to protect the delicate pie crust/layered crust was a misstep. Perhaps I need to visit the SoBay more often. read more

JJ Bakery used to be one of my favorites in Torrance. I bought their soft red bean bread, but when I cut it in half and took a bite, I felt like something was missing. I looked inside and was honestly shocked--it was practically empty. I checked the other half just in case, and it was the same story. I don't think I'll be going back for a while. read more

There are full cakes, bars, and slices, so you can choose a size that's right for any occasion or group size. And they have a great selection of traditional and non-traditional sweet and savory pastries. **Taste of the food, 5/5** The mango mousse cake here is amazing -- great cake layers with bright and flavorful mousse, topped with a jelly/pudding-like layer on top. Their ham and cheese, as well as their hot dog scallion pastries are also easy hits! **Other notes** Parking is never an issue here. And you can take your pastries to Charles Wilson park down the block to enjoy :) read more

Ok, so I was looking for cute Asian bakery shop as I like they are not too sweet when it comes to dessert. My daughter doesn't like too sweet as well. So found JJ Bakery in Torrance and from the reviews, it looks great. The watermelon slice looked so good and my daughter and I couldn't wait to sink our teeth in there hoping it would be soft and moist. Welp, that was a disappointment. It was vey dry! I don't know if it has been sitting on the shelf for 2 days and it was dry. The mango moose cup, it was meh ! The cheesecake cup, the one with the face on it (see pic), it tasted like bad cheese. Yay for delicious goodies! Love the chiffon cake with a little cream inside and powdered sugar on top. Months back I got a cute polka dotted box full of them for a small group meeting. The chiffon cakes are so light and fluffy. I also like the strawberry cake. It is coated with cream w/strawberry filling inside. As for savory items, the wrapped hot dogs are always tasty snacks! Was curious about the pyramid shaped items wrapped in bamboo leaves. The nice cashier kindly explained that they are Taiwanese tamales with sticky rice and various proteins- beans, sausage, and a little boiled egg. The hubby and I enjoyed everything we got from here. JJ is located in a busy strip mall that has Starbucks, boba/acai shops, and other businesses. Parking here can be a little tight depending on time of day but, there is more parking on the other side that has Providence urgent care, the UPS Store and others. The local park is just a block away. Have been here off and on for years so, I thought I had reviewed JJ already. Will be back from time to time. :) read more

Absolutely delish! I come to this bakery specifically for their Oreo cake roll. I guess it can also be called an Oreo Swiss Cake roll? Whatever the name... it's a definite must try! The cake is moist, chocolatey, decadent and just YUM. Satisfies a sweet tooth but doesn't overly sweetened the tooth at all. Bakery is located inside a small shopping center with somewhat ample parking. Staff is friendly and polite. Must try if you're in the South Bay or if you're like me, worth the 15+ mile drive read more

Good bakery. We got a few different kids of breads, mochi, and egg tart. The mochi was the best thing in my opinion the texture was the perfect chewiness. The egg tarts are ok a bit crumbly for me I personally like the 85 degree ones a bit better. The store is always clean and workers friendly. read more

This review has been a long time coming. I've been coming to JJ Bakery for years, way before the other Asian bakeries arrived in the South Bay. I still love the different Taiwanese pastries that are offered and am impressed they continue to add more items to their repertoire such as drinks and most recently authentic Taiwanese meals. These are usually frozen and you thaw and cook at home. I bought the beef stew recently and added my own flat noodles at home along with some bok choy and it became a delicious beef noodle stew, better than the local restaurants. My favorite pastry is hands down the Hokkaido cupcakes. The owner makes them fresh every morning. I called to order two dozen and she asked that I pick up after 12 noon because she needed time to make them that very morning. I put them in my refrigerator and they were still delicious the next morning. The parking lot can be crowded during high peak times because there is so much going on in that plaza but spaces are vacated quickly. read more

I thought I'd already written a review for JJ Bakery. Had I known, I'd have taken some pictures on my most recent visit. I've been a big fan of their baking skills ever since I discovered them about five years ago. It reminds me of the bakeries I went to when I was in Taiwan and it's every bit as good...and authentic...and costs a lot less than a plane ticket back to Taiwan to get the same quality! I much prefer JJs over 85 C, and I love you too, 85 C! This is where I'd take anyone who comes to visit me in LA. It's that good! The best thing about their cakes and dessert-type items is that they taste great without being too sweet. I've been there at times when it was really crowded and busy. The last time I went there on a Sunday afternoon it wasn't too busy. They have sandwiches, bread, cakes, and other dessert-type items and they are all excellent. If you want the perfect cake for a celebration, I'd get it here! JJ's has several locations throughout the LA area. I've only been to the Torrance location. The parking is free and easy, so that's a big plus. There's no place to eat your goodies outside but Wilson park is literally just up the block less than ¼ mile. read more
I needed to get my mom a cake the day of her birthday, and I remembered trying a JJ Bakery cake at a work event and loving it. I looked at the available cakes behind the glass, and even though all of them looked delicious, I asked the cashier for her recommendation. She recommended the 8" Chocolate Square cake for $27, which is chocolate cake with chocolate cream. You would think that's too chocolately, but omg this cake is great! The cakes overall aren't too sweet-- they are still very flavorful! The fruit on top was also fresh. I think 85 degree cakes are a few dollars more and don't have this quality. I highly recommend JJ Bakery! read more

Do you guys have peanut free cake options?
Most of their cakes do not contain peanuts, but may contain almonds, sesame seeds, etc. Their kitchen is not "nut-free" so there may be cross contamination even if the cake doesn't contain nuts.
