I've eaten here several times while in town visiting friends. They have really really good tamales. I prefer the mild red pork ones. The are flavorful and delicious. They look small but 2-3 will stuff you full. Their green chili have a nice flavor and slight kick, where their red chili... I'm pretty sure satan himself seasoned it. It is HOT. But you don't notice it immediately, oh no, you have to get about 2 bites in before you realized just how hot it actually is. Unless you're a fan of tongue scorching spice, stick with the green. In the past I've tried the refried beans and rice and wasn't a big fan but I decided to try them again because it's been a couple of years since I've had them. The beans are not good. They taste heavy and lack any flavor whatsoever. The rice is okay but it also lacks flavor. It's pretty bland. It does get better if you put some of that green chili on it though. I will continue coming back here, I'll just stick with the entree and won't buy the sides again. read more

We have been going here for years. There has always been some sort of wait in getting your food. It has been getting steadily worse. Today I waited over 30 minutes in drive thru with 3 cars in front of me. The bags that came out were small bags..: not large orders. Once I paid for my food it was another 15 minutes..: for a taco, cup of beans and an enchilada. As with everything l, prices have gone up. But $1 for a side of salsa? The small one, that you get with a meal. $4 for a very small cup of beans. If you want tamales, this is the place. I'll be going elsewhere for the things I got today though. I wish we could give half stars. I would give it 2.5 stars. The restaurant has pretty decent food overall. A couple of steps up from Taco Bell. There tamales are passable, but I have a to go to place for my tamale hankerings. Their tamales are small and mostly corn mesa with very little whatever in the middle. They have good chicken tacos. I was a bit put off by how they charge more than what the menu says in the dive thru. I never saw a 'note' on the drive thru menu that said they are charging an extra $1.50 because of covid. Even if the were a note, it would be too late because one is already stuck in the drive thru line. I felt a little ripped off because of this. The dive thru line takes a long time to get through, but I can understand, they are working hard making food. read more

This is an all time favorite!!!!! No complaints here, and LOVE the authenticity of the kitchen staff.

The staff are now wearing gloves at the window most of the time. They have worn them 2 out of 3 times that we have gone through the drive through in the last couple of weeks. It definitely made a difference and we don't smell her perfume on our food packaging if she is wearing gloves. Hopefully staff continue to wear them all of the time now. I wish I could separate the star rating for food and service. I feel bad for the people that work here, I feel like it's a sweat shop for kids and people that just need a job. The atmosphere is terrible, I wonder if this matters to the owners while the food continues to be in demand. I also wonder how long they have been over charging people vs. menu price. Someone must have complained, there is a hand written notice taped below the menu board ... this overcharging has been going on for a while, thanks for the note. All the food I have ever eaten here is truly the best for my tastes. This trip however I'm super nervous about eating my Tamale plate after the "cockroach" review AND picture ... thanks for that. Love going to this place. Has the best breakfast burritos when they actaully give you the right order. 3rd time this has happened. Specifically said breakfast burrito- steak with green Chile on the inside. I got a Cali burrito. Not only that but went to call back to be nice so they can fix it. Drove all the way back home and an hour later they still can't answer there phone. Not trying to be rude it's just if you round up my money and charge me $14 for 2 burritos I atleast want what I ordered dude. Like come on pay attention. This place is delicious. I usually get the combo #8, sometimes extra spicy, a taco plate, or an enchilada plate. I love the rice and beans. If you get tamales, get at least a half dozen, they are on the smaller size but yummy. All items are good, one of my favorite places to eat in the area. This place has great reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. I love breakfast burritos, but I'm never out and about early enough to have one. Luckily Tamale Kitchen serves breakfast all day. I tried the egg & potato breakfast burrito, special (meaning with cheese and green chile inside). It was very tasty. It was hot, fresh, cooked to order and didn't need the meat. It's a good sized burrito for $3.50. It was definitely worth it and I know I'll be back for more. I also really want to try the tamales. The lady who took my order was very friendly. I was in and out in under five minutes (I was the only person in line). Overall I was very happy and glad I've found a great breakfast burrito for any time of day. I've also been back and tried the chicken & rice burrito, special. It was delicious! I also tried a cheese and jalapeño tamale. It was very hot and not at all cheesy. I'll pass on those from now on. A dozen red pork tamales 2 smothered steak fries burritos 3 sodas $25 Pretty inexpensive in my opinion. The tamales aren't the best but they are great. The steak fries burrito is fantastic. Comes with steak, steak fries on the inside, guacamole, lettuce and sour cream. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the wait time/space. If I'm going to pay $6.50 for a breakfast burrito I will happily go els where and get a burrito double the size with higher quality ingredients. Love the tamales. Hate the service. I ordered a dozen tamales with a cup of green chili near closing time. I received my order, drove off and checked it. No green chili. I tried to go back through the drive thru but was yelled at that they were closed. I tried to explain that I was missing food and was fed a line of "no english". So I asked them in Spanish if I could get the green chili I ordered, paid for, and didn't receive. She responded in very well spoken English that they were closed and I would have to come back tomorrow. Sigh. The green chili is what MAKES those tamales. Here is the deal. You can't show up at 9:55 and expect to be served. They don't answer the phone at night. They told me the night crew doesn't pick up the phone. Don't bother having something wrong with your meal. They say check, open the not they just put in the bag. The bag is impossible to open the way they just tie it up. You need to stop and open the bag in order for them to do anything. Don't get m started on the blob of cheese I got for my nachos. Liquid cheese with shredded cheese. It wouldn't even melt after a minute in my microwave! They are going down hill! Th latest. I pull up on a Sunday, they say they close at 10pm? Tamale Kitchen has become our go to place before a caving meeting at O'Meara Ford's conference room. The menu is overwhelming at first but once you choose a few favorites, you will probably not stray and order the same thing. We have had tamales by the dozen and printed a coupon for buy 2 get one free, a chili rellano, a chili rellano burrito, and a pork and potatoes smothered burrito. All were good with a nice spicy chili. The husband gets the mild and it has enough spice for him. Carmel Churros are next on the agenda and if I were a night owl, I would love to see the drive through on a weekend at midnight for Taco Madness. read more

What type of mexican restaurant doesn't have a free salsa bar? U know, the ones where they make them fresh daily that come with 4 different types of salsa, pickled veggies, cilantros and lime? I'm from southern ca and even if there isn't a salsa bar, mexican restaurants are happy to give more than enough salsa or hot sauce for free upon asking. You would think that spending 20+ dollars would entitle you to some free hot sauce or salsa but no, this place doesn't give salsa or hot sauce and the food is very dry. The food's way overrated and for those who enjoy this place, they don't really know what good mexican food is until they travel to southern california. This place for me is the watered down version of cafe mexico off 120th ave without the customer service as well. I have been here many times and have never had a bad experience. My favorite thing to get is definitely the posole but the tamales and burritos are excellent also. On the weekends the drivethru is open 24hrs which is nice for when everything else is closed. I have never dined inside (always went through the drivethru) but it looks small and grungy from the outside. read more

Super bland. I have been here once before years ago and was better. I had the combo plate #1, enchilada was a corn tortilla with a bit of cheese in it. Rice and beans were tasteless as well. Tamale was sub-par but edible. I ordered a pint of guacamole and can't even taste it. My son got the Flaming Hot Pork Plate and did not like it either.
