Located in the downtown area of Rapid City, this is a great spot to check out breakfast or lunch. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and I have had the opportunity to enjoy both. This is definitely a hopping place during peak hours so be prepared to wait. I love the communal table which allows you to sit down and chat with neighbors. While the breakfast is very good, my last visit I had a bison curry soup that was off the charts one of the best soups I've ever had. I begged the Kitchen for the recipe, but they wouldn't budge! Tally's is a cute spot in Rapid City with yummy breakfast. I ordered the build your own omelet with Gouda, cheddar, onion, arugula & peppers. It came with a choice of toast and hash browns. The omelet was fluffy and full of the ingredients. The hash browns were nice and crispy and not greasy, which I appreciate. Food was AMAZING! I got the two chocolate chip pancakes, a side of eggs, and sourdough toast. They were amazing. Pancakes were delicious, eggs were great, and toast was warm. Our server was great. A superb restaurant right in the heart of downtown. Tally's Silver Spoon is an upper scale restaurant that not not shy away from a hearty menu. The setting was a little more formal than casual. There were parties where everyone was dressed nicely but we were a little more business casual and were fine. My wife and I were in town on a visit and decided to grab a late night dinner. We arrived when the restaurant was winding down so seating was not an issue (we were one of the last tables to leave). Our meal started with Cureiosity as an appetizer. This is a cornucopia of flavors with a hearty portion of pork belly. Layered with flavors of miso, ginger and candy this dish shocks the taste buds awake to prepare for the main dish. A good portion size to start but with the pork belly it can be a quick filler. For my main I chose the vegetarian option of parm to table. The name was what caught my eye but the description of mushrooms with feta cheese and parmesan mousse reeled me in and I was glad I made that choice. The dish was excellent with so much flavor and perfectly cooked mushrooms. This dish did not disappoint. My wife chose the Bison Maytag Marsala Mushroom which paired nicely with a cabernet sauvignon the waiter recommended. Again, no disappointment here. The dish was amazing and the bison was so tender it fell apart with a fork. Unfortunately, I do not get to this area often but when I return, Tally's will be my first stop. In town on a Sunday and yelped for a place for lunch. 30 minute wait so we sat outside patiently. Noticed a couple walk in and get seated immediately and was confused. Asked the hostess why they were seated before us, she stated they wanted to eat outside. Of course that option was never given to us. We did mention to her that my husband needed to eat right away due to medical issue. We were finally seated and waiter took our order. My husband had a few questions and the waiter stated " are you from the north east". Don't think it was a compliment. Ordered ice tea never arrived had to request again. Waiter said sorry I forgot about it. I ordered the Cuban sandwich which was pretty good and tasty. My side was a fresh salad. My husband ordered a hamburger which was spot on. As promised Jared... the star chefs adorning the walls would be very proud of what was the best French toast I have ever eaten, and one of the top breakfasts ever!!! Foie gras!!!, macerated and fresh berries, toasted pecans, granola, and maple cream made for a beautifully presented and texturally diverse dish. We were travelers looking for unique eats in Rapid City, drawn in by your website's description of the menu, and not disappointed. I believe the sign of a great meal is when you savor each bite, already from the start regretting the end of the meal will inevitably come. Look up the video of Julia Child tearing up after sampling a Nancy Silverton dessert and you'll know what I mean. Wait times: They can get long, so I recommend arriving early and putting your name on the waitlist before you're actually ready to eat. We showed up very hungry once, and the 40-minute wait was a little painful. 2. Location/Parking: Downtown parking can be hit or miss. You might get lucky and find a spot right outside, but it's best to be prepared to park and walk. 3. Service: Service has always been great--no issues at all. 4. Drinks: We've ordered the mimosas several times and they've always been yummy. 5. Food (the most important part!): The food has consistently been excellent. I've tried both breakfast and lunch items--my favorite is the breakfast burrito--but the more traditional lunch sandwiches are also great. Everything has always been cooked well, and I've never had a bad experience. I will say Tally's is on the spendier side for a lunch spot, which is why I don't come here too often. Excellent Restaurant! Three of us had breakfast last Friday. My wife had the gluten free blueberry pancake, egg and bacon and loved it! I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and it was wonderful! Crunchy steak covered with a delicious milk gravy! So yummy! Our daughter had the duck confit breakfast and absolutely loved it until she tried the duck liver. To say the least, she was not a fan of the duck liver. Some people may love it, but next time she would ask the restaurant to save the liver for someone else who might appreciate it more than she would. If you only have 1 meal in Rapid City, you must come here. We were here for dinner, lucky for us, there was one that just opened us. The menu looked fantastic, we couldn't decide what to have but then we saw "indecision menu". That peaked our interest and asked about it. We were told we get what the kitchen sends out. We love the idea of being surprised by the chefs. We tell our server our restrictions e.g. nuts, cheese etc and they take it from there. Some items the kitchen creates won't be in the menu or other dishes with some improv. I love this idea! It gives the chefs in the kitchen room to play and create. For us, it's a surprise - like Christmas morning! We chose the 4-course menu and my husband chose the wine pairing service. Our first course was a pulled pork bun - describing my meal does not do it justice. Second course was a salad with fried brie, fig, grapefruit wedge, tomatoes - not to be found on the menu. Third course was duck l'orange, the sear on the skin, the meat - so much flavor and so tender. Fourth course was a biscon steak with difference sauces but the star was the marrow butter! We stopped for lunch and had the gf hot beef sandwich, gf alfredo, gf pancake special, and the chicken fried steak. Everything was delicious. The alfredo was especially good, you can taste the fresh garlic and the gf noodles were so good they were hard to tell the difference from conventional noodles. We stopped by for dinner and it was so good!! I wish I could go back! We walked in with 3 of us at 5pm but they were a lot of tables already reserved so I recommend making a reservation if you can. People working here are dressed up, but not to worry, there is no dress code. Most of people are tourists, just walking in with T-shirts and shorts. I had their burger and it was delicious. We wanted a special dinner for our last night in South Dakota, but unfortunately, the experience fell flat. I ordered the $56 Trailblazer steak, which arrived cold after a long wait. There was no first-bite check from our server and in fact, I had to go inside and find the manager myself once my wife was halfway done with her meal. The manager did give a halfhearted apology and reluctantly offered to remake the dish, but at that point, the timing of our evening was already off. My wife had to leave with our kids before I finished eating, which made what was supposed to be a special dinner end with me eating alone while the waitress tried to hurry me out the door. The steak was reheated instead of remade, and nothing was comped or offered to make up for the poor pacing or cold food. The reheated steak ended up being medium instead of medium rare and the manager just kind of shrugged it off saying I thought that might happen. We still tipped and left a polite note, but for a high-end restaurant with a strong reputation, the lack of real service recovery was really surprising. The food itself was good, but sitting outside, we felt completely overlooked. Almost as if out-of-towners don't get the same level of service. If you're visiting Rapid City and hoping for a memorable dinner, you might be better off choosing a place that values all guests equally. read more

He managed tables and the bar with ease. The only downside was that the restaurant seemed understaffed. It took about 10 minutes to get someone's attention for the check and to go boxes. First thing - Note that they charge a bogus 3.5% "Living Wage" surcharge. My normal tip was lowered by 3.5% due to this. These charges should be disclosed verbally by the host/hostess instead of being buried in a size 2 font on the menu. Now on to the review Note that it is a relatively small restaurant, so expect there to be a wait during high traffic times. We were lucky and were seated with no wait on a Saturday for breakfast. Service was excellent and our waiter was very attentive. The food was excellent and serving sizes were slightly more than I expected. The Special Breakfast (aka Tally's Original) is a great deal for breakfast, coming in at under $10. I opted for the Omelette and was not disappointed. 5 "toppings", hash browns, and a muffin/toast for $20. Not too bad. I was pleasantly surprised that the muffin was split, buttered and grilled. You definitely want to eat here. We went twice during our vacation and had "the indecision " menu both times. If you chose "the indecision " menu the staff will pick your two, three or four courses for the whole table and it will be amazing. I'm gluten free and they worked around that to give us a fabulous dinner of mussels, salad and an incredible pork belly dinner one night and a pork belly starter, salad course and filet mignon dinner on the other. But between the 6 outside and all the tables inside with nobody sitting at them and they couldn't find one for me. This place is amazing! Was here in 2022 and so impressed that Rapid City could have a chef's restaurant that rivals a big city. And it does, so I returned. This trip was a solo outing to try Tallys again, and I was more impressed than before. My server was very knowledgeable about both the food and wines for the "indecisive menu," also known as the chef's choice -- even her pick for a Pinot Noir as the first wine was successful. The foods were amazing. I am not much for dishes with many strong or dominating flavors all at once (like a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, ham, hamburger, pineapple, olives, peppers, etc.... how can you taste this???), but the chef used them well to make this work (cayenne with ricotta and fennel on a salad). These flavors did not overpower each other and created a balanced experience. The only item I was not satisfied with was the bread with butter, orange, and rhubarb dipper. Rhubarb was missing. The multiple dinner courses were excellent. I only wish I could have eaten them all - the portions were quite generous for a five-course meal. I chose the wine pairing - which was worth it. My server, Palina, knew her stuff and could explain each one. Love this. I recommend all to go. Many may not think of Rapid City, South Dakota, as a foodie destination. And I might agree. After so many wonderful meals, I chose to bring an out-of-town guest and both of us concluded it was the worst meal we had had in months. Waiting over 45 minutes for breakfast, only to receive utterly cold and inedible food is not a good way to start your day. It didn't help that the server, rather than apologizing or being somewhat empathetic, threw the kitchen staff under the bus and blamed it on a shift change. The one good thing that happened was the bearded gentleman that is regularly there, who in the end was able to partially make it right. Everything was pretty good standard breakfast fare, except for the hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were really bad. They had the texture of a stale cracker and no salt. Pretty much inedible. I also ordered a side salad since I love to eat noodles with salad. The restaurant was clean and wasn't too noisy. Service was quick and attentive. The waitress was very kind, friendly, and has sense of humour. I stayed in the hotel next to it so I didn't pay for parking. But if you drive, you will need to pay to park.
