    Flat bread pizza

Wow! What a treat! We had spent the day driving and hiking all over the Badlands National Park, exhausted and on way to the Black Hills. We found this amazing place and relaxed fully on the enclosed patio area with our little dog. The wine was refreshing and light. The charcuterie board was incredible! We couldn't even finish eating all of it. In addition to the wine and charcuterie, we ordered the beet salad! Now here we go! This is gourmet! Perfect flavor combo with leaves, beets, candied pecans, sprinkled with feta then tossed with a light vinaigrette, perfection! We even ordered a flat bread pizza to try a little of everything. Completely satisfied and wishing we lived closer to this little gem.

They do need to update the online menu. Filet listed online for $40.75 was $55. Date listed $6.75 were $10. Filet Mignon w/veal Demi glaze was awesome, you could cut it with a butter knife. I didn't like the small potato bites. Should have mashed potatoes $55 Bison ravioli was good (not made in house) but the sauce was on the salty side. Medjool dates filled with blue cheese were great $10. $10 is too expensive for these though. Overall a great place for a relaxing dinner. Or just have wine and appetizers.

Apparently, they don't serve actual wedges because it causes too much waste. The owner agreed they need to change the name of the salad. My beet salad was tasty. Now after waiting 50 minutes with only one other couple in the restaurant, our entrees were served. They should have some games to play at the table for the long wait times. We were actually planning to order dessert but ran out of time. My salmon was cooked very well and tasted fresh. My husband's vegetable lasagna was saved by the mushroom gravy otherwise it lacked flavor.

Anyone who rates this restaurant lower than 5 stars is seriously trippin. I cannot begin to express…read morehow beautiful our meal was- there was so much attention to every aspect of the menu. I suggest having reservations, because we called the day before and they were booked for the next two days. Thankfully, they slid us in on a cancellation. There is love here. Our server, Lucy, was super attentive and lovely. She definitely went the extra mile. The chef, Matt, was cooking for the entire restaurant with the aid of only one sous chef and the place was packed. Still, our food came out in a timely manner and it was all cooked to perfection. Quite a feat, given there were people at literally every table. It's not quaint in capacity, either. I was so impressed. As for the food- everything was phenomenal. We ordered a bottle of the Bordeaux, the charcuterie, the beet salad, the petite filet, the mushroom ragu, the creme brûlée and the home made peanut butter ice cream. It was a lot but as we are serious food lovers and I love to cook, we wanted to try it all. Although the menu itself wasn't visionary (not sure there is room for that in SD) the execution was. The filet melted like butter but had an extraordinary crust. Perfectly seasoned. I ate every bite. The creme brûlée is my go to dish- it's so simple but you can tell a lot from how it's executed. The custard was phenomenal and the crust was the perfect thickness, shattered just the right way with q wack of the spoon. The house made peanut butter ice cream... jeez. My husband ordered it. Not something I would have chosen but good lord, I ate the whole thing. I was in pain, but it was some of the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. People on Yelp complaining about seating or pricing are out of touch. This is a very small crew running the restaurant. The chef is an artist and he is killing it. (He is even the one who returned my reservation phone call!) You read the list of what we ordered- it was an insane amount of food PLUS a bottle of old world wine- and if I hadn't tipped so so exuberantly we would have been out of there for under 200 bucks. WE DONT DESERVE YOU, JUNIPER! We are thankful for such an amazing, elevated, romantic date night. Honestly worth going to Rapid City for. Please do yourself a favor, check it out and tip them well. These guys are pulling off something remarkable.

The ricotta is brûlée style and absolutely fabulous! I would def recommend this spot if you are staying at the hotel.

The complimentary bread is appreciated though. Something to note: while this Italian restsaurant offers different pasta and pizza dishes, they do not offer entrees like chicken parm, steak, etc. Service: okay. It was attentive but also a little anxious to rush us. We were eating as a family, which means several young kids and a baby. Maybe the server interpreted most of us not actively eating as we were done, but there was still food on our plates, and my parents were eating their dishes. The server asked us if our plates were ready to be cleared away and if we wanted dessert, which felt a bit premature for the meal. Ambiance: It's a nice large space inside. You get a view of the open kitchen that's in the back. There's tons of seating options including booths or tables. There is also Sabatino's pizzeria next to this restaurant!

Our tour group's farewell dinner was hosted in a spacious private dining room. The décor of this…read moreroom, plainer than the main dining room and bar, is basically white with concrete floors and schoolhouse light fixtures. Large paintings and a wall of fake ivy add splashes of color. The servers circulated with generous pours of wine, good focaccia, and a bruschetta appetizer. Following was a choice of Caesar or burrata caprese salad. Both were very good, but my missus has an aversion to cheese and unfortunately the kitchen declined to prepare an individual salad for her. There were 3 entrees to choose from. I ordered the chicken parmesan. The portion was generous but the breading was scorched and there was insufficient marinara/cheese topping, so the dish was kinda dry. The accompanying side of pasta was cooked a bit north of al dente and suffered even more from a bland marinara. How disappointing for a place that specializes in pasta. The tiramisu dessert redeemed my taste buds. Per Yelp, Sabatino's is currently the #1 Italian restaurant in Rapid City. Fair or not, I'm judging it by Chicago and NYC standards.
