Folks, don't be fooled. There is good wine in Rapid City. I won't lie, I came in pretty skeptical but was beyond surprised not only by the quality but also the age of the wines they put for tastings at such a reasonable price. At home (Chicago) most places like this serve super young stuff that really isn't very good (a la Coopers Hawk, etc). Come to taste the 2020 (unofficial) Sangiovese alone. For 2 bucks! Admittedly, we came at probably a bad time, they were about an hour away from closing, and apparently they were just celebrating a major anniversary (25th maybe?), so they have been swamped all weekend. The staff seem tired and somewhat in attentive, but I can understand given the festivities that have been going on all weekend. They were nice and giving us some samples, and we walked away two bottles of wine that we really enjoyed. We were not able to find what we were looking for, but it looks like it was just something that they no longer have in stock. When you're talking about boutique wines, that's just the way it goes. We will probably come back and I fully expect to be better on a normal day one compared to where everybody's just coming down off of a giant weekend. read more

On our recent trip from Denver my wife found this place from a brochure at the hotel. Were glad we did! They offered free tasting for $5! This is an awesome price! We entered and were met by the most pleasant hostess/bartender in the yellow sweater. My wife is a wine drinker and had many questions. Our server was super knowledgeable and friendly. Also, another employee was there. Both provided us with extremely friendly conversation. We ended up purchasing two bottles for $25 each. Excellent atmosphere and the most pleasant conversation. Stopped in with my wife to do a wine tasting. Ended up walking out with 3 bottles of wine. The staff was very very friendly and knowledgeable. All questions were answered and we were given full attention. I don't like white wine as much but I want to let readers know that the unoaked Chardonnay is a unique wine, it is like reading a tense book with a satisfying and savory ending. When you first smell it, it's kind of repulsive and yet has a scent that tastes nothing like the smell. I wanted to try the Cabernet Sauvignon but the cellar was sold out. Tried the merlot and was really surprised and that was our second bottle. Since I am not writing this at home I don't remember the 3rd bottle we purchased. The first 2 really stood out for me. I feel this is a Rapid City gem and we will definitely be returning to try the Cabernet Sauvignon. Again the staff is top knotch and it smells amazing in the place. I think they have a cheese plate you can pair with wines if your sitting in and I want to try that next. Thanks for having such an amazing place firehouse! read more

Firehouse has a ton of signs - some funny - along the I-90 corridor coming into Rapid City. A brewery, knick-knack shop and a wine cellar comprise the trio of Firehouse stores on Main street in Rapid City. We stopped by the Wine Cellar on a Sunday afternoon. Did not see any signs for a tour, but the two staff were very welcoming and offered us samples of the wines. Very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. The "Mythical Beast" was my favorite wine, but our party of 3 ended up with 6 or more different bottles in our final order. Bonus review: the knick-knack/souvenir store next door is a fun place to look through. Staff there were super friendly and helpful too. If you are in downtown Rapid City, do stop by and check this place out. read more

I paid $18 dollars for the large meat and cheese tray for our group and literally received 2 dollars worth of cheese and meat and only enough for one person, maybe one and a half. The crackers and toothpicks were forgotten until we asked for them, and then we were given a basket of crackers that wouldn't even feed one person let alone an entire table of us. Will never spend my money on it again and possibly never come here again. Do not recommend. The Mythical Beast wine however was delicious and definitely recommended. Disclaimer: I haven't been to the Rapid City location, but it looks AMAZING! When I'm in the Black Hills I love to stop by the Hill City location as it's closer to our family ranch and less busy than Rapid City. We like their wine enough that we joined their club and we've been having it shipped to us in California. The delivery always comes with a handwritten note and a little gift like stickers, coasters, bookmarks, socks, etc. Which points to what I might love most about Firehouse: the people. Whether we get to visit in person or we have a delivery of wine, we feel like family. The staff is friendly, experienced, and you always feel welcomed. On our most recent visit our party enjoyed flights of beer and charcuterie and once again, Firehouse nailed it! There's something for everyone whether you hit up downtown Rapid or cozy Hill City. On our way from Omaha we saw at least 4-5 billboards advertising this place. More specifically, these billboards advertised free wine tours daily at 1, 3, 5, and 7 PM. I have been on several wine tours before and thought that there was no such thing as a bad wine tour. This place definitely proved me wrong. I have now decided that any place that needs to advertise itself about 200+ miles out from the destination is a place that I should not visit. We arrived promptly at 7 PM for the tour. The man who led it might have been the most lackluster individual I have ever met. From my experience, brewery and winery tour guides are usually really enthusiastic about what they do and where they work. The same could not be said for this man. He was about as dry as the red wine he served us. I think the idea is great as who doesn't love a free tour that includes a taste of one of their beers, along with a taste of two wines (a mildly oaked pinot noir and a sweet white wine). With that said, I just couldn't get over how bored I was and how much the man who led the tour just did not seem excited at ALL about this place. After the tour, things only got worse. We went to the tasting bar to try some wines. There were three people working and only one customer, yet we were ignored for about 5-10 minutes until my husband got assertive and asked if we could do a wine tasting. The wines just seemed really off to me, almost watered down. I will say that they had a red blend that might be one of the best red blends I have ever tried. With that said, it wasn't enough to save this place. To think that I decided to come to this place instead of getting sushi......such a mistake. read more

Firehouse has three different types of shops right in a row on Main St. in downtown Rapid City (brewery, souvenir shop, and wine cellar). The wine cellar shares a space with the souvenir shop, and it has a nice cozy atmosphere. There is a cellar tour, however our group did not partake. It is good to note that if you check-in on the Yelp app to Firehouse Wine Cellars, you get a free tour that includes 3 wine samples. Even without the free wine from the check-in, the wine sample are extremely reasonably priced. The deal they have is 6 wine samples for $5! Great deal. And the staff member who was helping us (William) was so patient with our group, and he gets an A+ for customer service! Definitely stop by if you're a wine fan and in downtown Rapid City! read more

We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the wines here. Because, let's be honest, South Dakota is not known as a great wine state. However, their dry white wines were crisp and pleasant. The reds really stole the show though. Their Cabernet was straightforward and easy to drink, a really nice table wine or every day wine. The 2018 Syrah was by far our favorite. It had a lovely finish with just the right amount of berry flavor and spice! Our sommelier was amazing, she even gave us a great recommendation for dinner and for places to visit during the remainder of our trip! read more
