Stumbled upon this gem while we were waiting for the game at Rogers Arena, and it was the perfect way to start the night. Fusion foods are all the rage now, and TAKO doesn't disappoint with the Korean/Mexican fusion foods they offer here. It was a group of 5 of us, so we basically tried every single taco on the menu, and I don't think any of us had anything bad to say about anything we had. Oh and they have some bottled beers here. The Seoul taco and poutine fries were probably our favorite out of everything we got, and I loved that they had flexibility to switch out the meats on the poutine (since one of us didn't eat beef). But honestly, everything was delicious. The portions were a little small, so I would recommend getting 3 tacos as a entree portion. Or maybe 2 and some fries. Service - it's quick service. You order, pay, and they bring out your food. The cashiers were helpful and patient. Atmosphere - it's a little crowded in here with limited bar style seating and only two large tables to accommodate up to 6 people, but it does seem like people get in and out of here pretty fast. Tako is a bit out of the way for me, but I decided to stop by for a quick snack on the way to Costco as it is right across the road. This Korean-Mexican fusion eatery is situated right under the sky train tracks, so it isn't really somewhere you want to go for a date or to have a conversation. They have seating, but it's bar-style and there aren't actual tables available. The food itself is great! I managed to try a bit of everything, and I honestly loved the fusion tacos. My favourite was the gangnam, which has shortrib and other Korean sauces. The Korean poutine was delicious, but it doesn't actually have any cheese. Asian fusion done right. Tako definitely hits the spot as the Korean/Mexican fusion is one of the best 1-2 cultural food combos out there in North America right now (and has been for the past decade or so). I've tried their burritos, tacos, mandus, bulgogi beef, spicy pork, etc. - they're all amazing! However, my classic go-to dishes from here are: 1. Bbq short rib poutine (5/5) The short ribs are diced in bite-sized pieces. The fries are covered in a delicious mayo-base dip, cheese, and topped off with green onions. All that mixed together and the flavor profile of this dish is amazing! 2. Chicken mayo rice bowl (5/5) The fried chicken is decently juicy and not too fried - not worth raving over however. The fried chicken is served on a bed of rice mixed with seaweed, mayo, green onion, and a house-made soy sauce base. Again, hat's off to Tako for an excellent combination of flavors. I will admit to this - I love mixing the bbq short rib poutine with the chicken mayo rice bowl. You should try this! Overall, Tako does an excellent job in combining all the various flavors/textures into a delicious, single bite...everytime. Being generous with the stars, but overall Tako serves solid food. As an LA native, I've experienced my fair share of Korean-Mexican fusion restaurants. The only dish that makes Tako different is their (Korean) poutine, but I didn't have the opportunity to try it. I ordered the bulgogi bibimbap: PRICE: $9.50; a little pricey SIZE: looks small; it was served in a small paper box. BUT my bf (who eats x10 more than me) was pretty full by the end of his bibimbap, and I could only finish 2/3. TASTE: meat was flavorful and well-marinated. My boyfriend had the short rib and that was also pack full of yummy-ness. The dish itself tasted fresh. However, I wish they added a little kimchi and offered brown rice. The hot sauce was barely sufficient, and additional sauce was $1 more (I believe it should be ~$0.50). I also tried a bit of a BBQ pork burrito: also flavorful including the rice. A little heavy of course, but portion-wise it was decent. The dining area consisted of bar seating which I didn't mind. In all, Tako served slightly pricey but fresh, satisfying food in a nice, casual environment. I think it would be more worth to go to happy hour, though. read more

I needed a place to eat before heading to the Rogers centre one evening, and this was in an ideal spot. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but a friend and I were able to snipe a table just as a couple was getting up. They have free glasses of water you can take, which a quiet reminder there is no free water at the Rogers centre. The korean-mexican fusion menu was interesting, with bulgogi flavored beef mixed into bean burritos. The prices were super reasonable too, as I'm used to $$$ Mexican near kits. I ordered the Tako/Jeju/Gangam Tacos ($9.50) which were garnished very nicely with a colorful variety of vegetables. The menu just said the meat of each taco (Beef Belly, Pork Belly, Short Rib), but they were all quite flavorful. It wasn't too messy to eat, but I still needed an extra fork to pick up the scraps. One issue with all three tacos I found was the amount of red and green onion they added. After each taco I had a strong lingering taste of onion in my mouth. I would have rather the savory meat or sweet BBQ sauce lingering, so it left me a bit grumpy. Otherwise, the process of eating each taco was good. For the solid prices and inspired menu, i'd recomment this place for people looking for a quick bite to eat near the Rogers centre. Tako is located is near the Light rail station and Costco, so its convenient for commuters but not if driving. There is a close parking lot nearby but it makes you pay for an hour parking vs smaller increments-both in Costco and the lot outside. That aside, the food was just OK -it took a long time for the food to come out despite it not being very busy, portion size was small (I ordered 4 tacos and a quesadilla... it wasn't very filling at all), prices were on the higher side and the flavors were average. I was expecting Short rib to be marinated and tender but it was tough and not much flavor. The spicy pork was not spicy as I was expecting to be like Korean BBQ normally is... The chicken taco was basic, but I did like the shrimp taco. That was very good. Kimchi and bulgogi quesadilla was average and probably not something I'd get again. Overall I was disappointed. Like many others, I decided to go for the Bulgogi Burrito here (9.50). The beef is so deliciously grilled with a slight sweetness to it. The wrap was perfectly firm and managed to contain all of the veggies, meat, corn, and all of that other goodness with each bite without losing anything. It's like they somehow new the absolute maximum amount of ingredients that could be fit into the burrito without popping. I also went for the Spicy Seoul Chicken (7.25). The chicken was juicy and had crispy skin, but I found it to be a bit lacking in terms of seasoning. The sauce was tangy and had a slow burn though. Definitely make use of all of the sauce that you get. I love the service and the fusion concepts that they have here, but I wished the portions were a bit bigger for the price read more

Korean-Mexican tacos? This sounded really novel, so I knew I had to try it. And at least in the flavour department, I wasn't disappointed! Plus they have a pretty good happy hour deal, and the space has a nice casual feel, though it's a little on the small side. I got four tacos, and of them, I really liked the Jeju (pork belly), Seoul (spicy fried chicken), and Tako (beef belly and cheese sauce). All three of those had delicious, novel flavour combinations that I would absolutely go for again! The spicy sauce on the Seoul was especially great, but the marinade and seasoning and sauces on all the meat was top-notch. The Jeju is advertised as "spicy" and really isn't, but it still tastes yummy. I also had the Gangnam, which was a bit more tame than the others, but still nice. That said, I didn't like the tortilla situation much. All my favourite taco places do two very important things. First, they give you double tortillas (two tortillas per taco). This is a great way to share and to manage all the fillings. And second, they use soft corn-flour tortillas! Sadly, Tako does neither. You get a single taco that's much too small for the fillings, so unless you shove the whole thing in your mouth at once a bunch of food falls out for you to pick up with your fingers. And second, they use what seem to be wheat tortillas, with a slick, doughy, slightly tough texture that's just not as pleasant as nice corn tortillas (and if they are corn, they're definitely not good ones). So overall, Tako has a great concept and great flavours. I would come back again if I was nearby; but it's not a new favourite, sadly. If only they used better tortillas! read more

Vancouver's newest taco joint, recently featured on Daily Hive Vancouver, is located right outside the Expo Blvd exit of the Stadium-Chinatown skytrain station. Great location, brightly colored decor, and well lit. Korean-Mexican fusion is pretty big in LA, but it seems to have hit Vancouver. It was the restaurant's soft opening when I went, but there was a steady stream of customers during my stay. I had the Tako, Jeju, and Busan tacos, that had Korean BBQ beef, pork belly, and deep fried shrimp, respectively. The flavors were bold and vibrant, and the fusion of Mexican concept and Korean flavors mingled quite nicely. The only thing I have to complain about is the portion size, which was definitely on the smaller side. Service was friendly and efficient, and seating is somewhat limited. Conveniently located next to the Chinatown skytrain station, this shop is serving up Korean inspired Mexican dishes such as tacos and burritos, along with more traditional dishes such as fried chicken and rice bowls. Somehow, I always end up craving for TAKO. It's a bit of a trip for me so whenever I'm in the area, I definitely go. Never thought Korean-Mexican fusion food could be so good!! They've got tacos, burritos (bowls), quesadillas, bibimbap bowls, poutine, and some other delicious snacks. Mandu - deep fried with a meat filling. Sauce is...salsa. It doesn't do much for me, but it was still delicious. Bulgogi burrito - the flavours here just seem to work. The beef is tender and the meat cut fresh in the back. Worth getting again. Bulgogi and kimchi poutine - I legit thought the kimchi and cheese sauce would throw this off, but in combination with sour cream and avacado, it's a junky indulgent mess of a dish. In other words, good with beer late a night. Fried chicken (soya and spicy) - a great share dish. Seoul tries to meet Cancun in this modern hole-in-a-wall Korean-Mexican taqueria across from Rogers arena. The place is tiny and the limited menu is easy to navigate. Ordered three tacos: veggie tofu, bbq spare ribs and the bulgogi. They came in a nice paper accordéon style trio compartment and had a very nice presentation. The tacos were super ultra Tiny tiny, I would rename them Micro tacos. Averaging about $3 each they appear overpriced but if you forget about that, you do get an interesting mix of flavors... I didn't care for the veggie which was ice cold and bland between the tofu mixture and tangy Kim-shee slaw. The highlight was the tiny rice stick ($2.25) which was ordered in spicy format (also available in soy). The 4 deep fried mini rice sticks had a yummy chewy guewey gluten goodness taste and were fun to eat Next a side of the deep fried dumplings ($4.99) was very bland although refreshingly light; it came with a 0.5 oz side container of salsa which tasted like it came from a Tostitos store bought jar (yuck, not good!) It seems I wasn't full after all this tiny food so i added a bulgogi rice bowl which came with carrots, cucumbers, Asian mushrooms, half of a cold soft boiled egg with the bulgogi beef over rice ($9.50). The lady behind the counter explained that it is best to Mix everything within the bowl to get the full taste; and she is 100% correct. The bowl tasted great no complaints about that, but again for the size and portion; it wasn't much value and wasn't anything special or memorable, in line with much lower priced food court teriyaki rice joint plates... So about twenty minutes and thirty three ($33) dollars later; I felt the place is waaaaay overhyped and overpriced for what you get and what it is; but definitely worthy of a stop once in a blue moon... read more

If you are looking for an awesome Korean-Mexican fusion spot, TAKO would be your best bet in Vancouver! The food here definitely reminds me of home in California. I tried 3 different flavored tacos and all of them were super delicious. During my travel here, I haven't come close to anything similar to this place within the area, which makes it even more unique. Price: ~$10/ person pricey but worth the try Service: 10/10 fast and quick service Food: 6/10 unique but not that great Gangnam Taco: $4.45 This is the most expensive one on the menu. The taco shells are chewy and tough. The toppings are scallions, tomato, onion, lettuce, bbq short rib ad black sesame seeds on top. The bbq short rib is well seasoning, the balance of fat and lean meat, but kinda dry. The dressing is not savoury enough, so the whole taco is pale. Should add more dressing outside with extra money. Busan Taco: $4.20 It has the same problem as the taco shell. But the flavour takes it back. The deep-fried prawns are so crispy and juicy. The prawns inside are bouncy and firm. It goes so well with the mayo dressing. This one has more flavour than the bbq rib taco. ( Must try ) BBQ short rib Burrito: $11.50 Since this burrito is a combination of Mexican and Korean cuisine so they use the kimchi fried rice instead of normal rice. The rice is tasty and not spicy at all. The bbq short ribs and the shell have the same problem. Should order extra sauce to eat with. This new combination is worth the try. I paid $13 for a snack. I found myself at the Costco cafeteria ordering a hotdog to get me through the rest of the work day. My colleague ordered some tacos and exclaimed "I didn't know they made taco shells this small!". They were literally palm size. $3 each - ouch! I am obsessed with this place. Just outside of Stadium-China town station, this little Korean Mexican spot blew me away after I saw several photos posted on social media by a friend. Now, personally I've never been a huge Korean OR Mexican food enthusiast. But I was surprised when the two cuisines combined it could create such flavour! TAqueria KOreano is such an unique experience that is quite difficult to describe! I usually order the Bulgogi or BBQ Short Rib Burrito as it is not only worth its price, but the meat and kimchi fried rice in a burrito is just pure deliciousness. And since it has a burst of flavour in every bite of the burrito, the kimchi fried rice (which is both sweet and spicy) isn't too much for someone who tends to choose mild dishes. I have also tried the Bulgogi and BBQ Short Rib Poutine and the recently added menu item Chicken Mayo Bowl. Those are pretty good as well, however I prefer the burritos a lot more. This place offers a unique flavour - a mix of Korean and Mexican. We ordered the spicy rice cake skewers as a side and this to my surprise was really good. I'm the one order there were 5 prices. It was crispy on the outside but still very chewy on the inside. The sauce was just the right amount of spice. I ordered the bulgolgi burrito. It looks small to the eyes but once I had started, it filled me up. It wasn't too heavy and the bulgolgi has a sweet flavour to it, marinated quite well and not over cooked. My boyfriend ordered 3 tacos - the tako taco (grilled beef belly), gangnam taco (bbq short rib) and the busan taco (deep fried prawn) and the koreano poutine. A must visit if you're by Stadium-Chinatown Station or shopping at Costco. To be honest, I'm disappointed with the taco places I've tried in Vancouver. Mostly underwhelming flavours and small portions that are overpriced! Tako is a standout! Powerful, tasty Korean flavours in a Taco wrap! There's an all-day combo special for homemade corn chips and any bottled beer for $5.95. Plus an $8 Happy Hour from 2-5pm! $8 choices are either 3-tacos, Bibimbap, Burritos, or Quesadilla. We started with tacos: BBQ Short-rib, Deep fried prawn, deep fried spicy chicken and the Pork belly which were tasty. A strong 3.5-4 out of 5! Then we moved on to a $9.50 Burrito Bulgogi which was delicious! The standout for all of us was the $9.95 Bibimbap Bowl with BBQ Short Rib. 5 out of 5! I shop at Costco and we'll gladly pay more and skip their $2.25 pizza slices or $1.50 hot dog & fountain drink for this tasty Korean/Mexican fusion! read more
