If you come to Taka's sushi, you better revise your Japanese on the fish name. It will be helpful. Dishes are ordered by pieces so it will easily accumulate to a large bill. I've tried Taka's Sushi for both set lunch and dinner. Set Lunch is so so, as they have the regular rolls that you can find in any sushi place. But for dinner, it is a total different level. I especially their Aburi Foie Gras. It melts in your mouth yet the taste of four gras just linger in your mouth. Tako wasa is another pleasant surprise. The toughness of the squid along with the crispy seaweed, it was like eating popping candy. It was a great dinner where I learnt the difference of different part of fish. They have Omakase as well but you will have to book in advance.

Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurant in White Rock and the greater Vancouver area. All the fish are of top quality and beautifully presented. For my first visit, the best part was the bluefin chutoro sashimi (the ordinary uni was just ordinary to be honest; should have tried something fancier) and the fois gras/lobster tail/flounder fringe aburi sushi. The wagyu beef was a bite overdone, and the rest were not as stunning as heard. However, the "Taka's fire" roll was beyond expectations and all their Americanized-rolls are bot expensive at all. Also ordered a small bottle of yuzu sake (which was good). Regrettably they don't have more cocktail/high ball options. Service: attentive but not overwhelming. Hot tea was served on time. Conclusion: worth the money and time. Have already decided to find time for a second visit when still around the area.

Wow! What unbelievably delicious cuts of sushi! Very slow service. Unfortunate child on an iPad behind me. What can you do? Kids are kids. Order take out. Don't dine in.

Hands down best sushi restaurant in white rock - they are known for their aburi and fresh quality fish. They're a small restaurant so do make time to wait for a spot as they don't take reservations. *MUST TRY* Tekka Maki (5/5) - $7 Taste: I love love LOVED this roll - it was small & simple but the bluefin used was top notch and melted right off the tongue! Portion Size: 6 small pieces Eamon Roll (4/5) - $12 Taste: This roll was unique and interesting as the poached salmon had a nice kick to it because of the dill that was used. Portion Size: 8 pieces Ginger and Hamachi (5/5) - $7.50 Taste: One of my favourites, extremely fresh hamachi on the inside and the ginger on top was a nice pairing. This roll had a really clean finish on the palette. Portion Size: 6 pieces Taka's Fire (5/5) - $12.50 Taste: This was one of my favourites as you play with a ton of textures in this roll - from the crunchy bits at the top, to the popping masago & tobiko, to the spicy flavours and prawn inside, this is one loaded roll! Portion Size: 8 pieces Aburi Flounder Fringe (5/5) - $4 Taste: If you like fattier fishes, you definitely have to try this one! The aburi gives it a smoky texture and the flounder fringe is wet and slippery, it melts right in your mouth! Portion Size: 1 piece Aburi Wagyu Beef (4/5) - $12 Taste: A very distinct & rich beef flavour - you can't go wrong with wagyu! It tastes amazing and has the softest texture. Portion Size: 1 piece [Value for Money] I love Taka's, you can spend a ton by going with lots of nigiri & sashimi or you can spend a moderate amount on rolls. The great thing is the food will taste delicious either way!

Background: Today was my second time eating at Taka's. Unfortunately, it is going to be my LAST time. When I ate here for the first time (about a month ago), I ordered one of their lunch specials, Taka's favourite lunch, and I was completely disappointed. I convinced myself that it was because it's a lunch special, I returned here today with a new "game plan" (see my original review). The Problem: Today I ordered seven pieces of (à la carte) sushi, including two piece of aburi (see my photos). Now I know what is WRONG with their sushi. The rice! Their fish is ok; it's not excellent but fine. Their rice is flavorless! Some sushi chefs think the rice is as important as the fish, if not more. To put it bluntly, if the rice sucks, then the fish does not matter! I did not enjoy ANY of the nigiri I had today. I've had bad sushi and have left the restaurant angry many times in my life, but it was different today. I left Taka's today with this void feeling inside me. I was not even upset. Something Positive: I can say that their presentation of the food, including the dishware they use, is really nice. Why So Many Positive Reviews?: I did my own research and learned that Taka, the original owner, had retired. I found several reviews on TripAdvisor, lamenting the retirement of Master Taka (e.g., Dr_VPR's review). The only way I can make sense out of this situation is the possibility that the current owner is feeding off of the excellent reviews Master Taka had garnered. Conclusion: Because the issue is something so fundamental, I just can't imagine having great sushi here. I would never come back here or do I recommend this place to my friends. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" so that I can improve my reviews. Stumbled across this Chinese-owned restaurant while on a walk out in White Rock. Was surprised there was a restaurant like this in the area! Not bad albeit slightly overpriced for the quality but it was still a great dining experience. We asked the server to essentially build an omakase menu for us and we told him that we wanted o-toro on the menu. We also wanted uni but they did not have it that day. Overall he did a great job and the selections were great. Rice was a bit harder than I liked - would have been better if it was a touch more soft. Check this restaurant out if you're in the area but I'm sure you can find better quality at this price point (200$ for 2 + 3 drinks) in Vancouver or Richmond.

I have heard great things about Taka's for while now, but White Rock has always been a little far for me. Finally was found some time to venture out there with a friend. We went on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. We sat at the sushi bar. Though the sushi bar is quite low and you don't get a view of what the sushi chefs are doing. There were also high top tables available as well. I would flag that their floor plan is not really family/kid/large group friendly. Only circular high top tables and sushi bar. Though I did notice they pushed together a couple high top tables for a group of 6-7 while we were there, so I guess you could make it work too. As for the food, the menu consists of mainly nigiris and maki rolls (that can also be turned into cones). I tried some aburi (flame seared) nigiri and ordered a couple rolls to share with my friend. The nigiri was great! I felt like the seafood was fresh and as advised I did not feel like I need to dip in soy. The rice was flavoured nicely and was still slightly warm. I think the rolls were a little disappointing for me. While presented nicely, there wasn't really anything special about them. They are definitely on the smaller side and I think could have been rolled a little tighter. As for service, this was quite a small operation, so front of house was just one person. Generally, the front of house was very attentive. He did acknowledge that our rolls came quite a bit after our nigiri, which is always a plus. Overall, a pretty decent experience. The meal per head came out to be astound $17/person plus tips. I had always gotten the impression from others that this spot was at the higher end of the price scale, so the bill was a pleasant surprise.

We went to Taka for late lunch to celebrate Chinese Valentine's Day. There are only three tables available due to COVID-19, so many people choose to take out. What we ordered: Complimentary hot green tea Sockeye salmon sashimi: 5 pieces, fresh but a little pricy Handsome roll: highly recommend! 8 pieces, a little crunchy with yummy seasoning Aburi sushi: recommend Wagyu beef, so tender that you don't need to chew a lot Nigiri sushi: recommend Bafun uni, you can taste the sweetness from the sea. The service is flawless. Our waiter gave us a lot of suggestions as this is our first visit. 2-hour free street parking nearby.

Wow, the sushi at this place is out of this world delicious. First off, this place is located in the heart of White Rock, BC. There is street parking available, but may be difficult to secure a spot during peak hours. The wait for a table could also be up to 1 hour long. After ordering, the food came out after 15 minutes. We tried their aburi sushi and two rolls (caterpillar and handsome). The aburi sushi is sold by the piece, so it is quite a bit more expensive than other menu items. We tried the lobster aburi and the bluefin toro aburi for $8.75 a piece (total is $17.50). The seafood on the aburi was so fresh and delicious, and gently melted in my mouth. The rice was perfectly seasoned and body temperature warm. Everything tasted like heaven. The rolls were just as good and are a fantastic deal. The caterpillar roll was made with the freshest eel I have ever tasted and costs less than $10. The handsome roll was also great. The service was prompt and courteous. Everything about this place is 5 stars.

    Finally here!

This meal is divine!!!!! Food: I only ordered the aburi sushi here. It's different from regular sushi since they sear the top part, and use less rice so each piece comes out more meaty. Since I only ordered aburi, the owner recommend 8 pieces for me. I ordered the sablefish (cod), wagyu, foie grad, lobster tail, eel, flounder, and bluefin toro. The flounder was a bit too oily for me, but the other 7 were delicious!! I would especially recommended the lobster tail, foie gras, and wagyu. Don't worry if you don't know how to order. I got the 8 most popular ones and they were ALL good. The servers will help you out. Service: Service was good. My glass was never empty. They refill my tea before I even noticed it! Price: Definitely very pricey. But you do pay for what you get. Wait: Be prepared to wait on any day. I came here around 8:30pm and still had to wait for 40 minutes. They close at 9pm, and we were the last table they served. So if you want to avoid the line, come before it opens. They do not have a lot of tables, so the line will be very long is you come during peak time. Also, do check on yelp or call to see if they are open since I'm pretty sure it's closed on Monday.

This place is really amazing... Not your average sushi spot, I would say some of the best and most fresh sushi I've had out this way. Broiled sushi is quite exquisite, to see that the prices are a little high, but you really do get amazing quality here... We went and had the tuna to talkie which was not like normal with pond zoo sauce. Miso soup was top notch. And then we work with four different rules. Knigge total role, amazing, rainbow roll very good, we also did the poached salmon roll and the prosciutto asparagus roll. I'm one of us if she needed person but my friends like the rules and they were very nicely done. I'm more of a sashimi person but my friends like the rolls and they were very nicely done. I will definitely be back for sashimi, and to try some Uni, and to do the rest of their seared sashimi, as it looked amazing. Very authentic!

I was pleasantly surprised by this unassuming spot. Tucked into 5 Corners, the quality of the nigiri and aburi was fantastic. My favourite dish was the tuna tataki which is rolled in peppercorn. We also tried a few rolls and all were excellent. The staff and service speed was all perfect and we will happily be back soon! Definitely one of the best sushi spots we have in the lower mainland. Highly recommend checking them out soon!

We overordered (as you can see from photos) but since we're used to things being tiny and unsatisfying, we had no idea what we were getting into. The lunch special is great, and my companion didn't need the extra rolls with it, though they were really tasty. I ordered a smattering of rolls, and was quite full. The fish is good, there are slightly heavier on rice than other places, but at least there was a good variety to choose from. We opted to skip the sashimi platter as it was $80, way higher than anywhere else we normally go. The parking is fine, it's in a lot, and it was daytime but had a decent number of lights.
