Taishan BBQ is within Foodnet Supermarket. it's to the immediate left after u clear the check outs. only roasted meat pricing was posted. no ready to eat food in the steam tables, no menu for fried rice, chow mein to go, etc. offerings: roast duck, goose, char siu pork, steamed chicken... eats: bbq. char siu (roast pork) 8.99/lb. -didn't see any hanging. unknowst where it came from, maybe it was one of pieces lying on the bottom. -meat mostly dryish, meats not so moist, not melt in mouth type. -has honey, slightly salty profile, thick five spice flavor + other ingredients that don't readily come to mind. -wouldn't order for dinner table. it will BOMB! -goes well with alcohol or in a bar. actually better than most bar food u will ever encounter. -it went great with an duster bowl therapist imperial ipa, 10.4% alc. 3.5 stars. wouldn't repeat take outs: -20% off on $20 whole roast duck with yelp check-in. a dozen hanging when i went. still there when i left.

Roast Pork

Two visits in two months. There was definitely more to choose from the second time. The BBQ Pork was spot on both times. Flavorful and moist. Same with the Roast Pork. We love crispy skin and a bit of fat under the skin. If it's more bone than fat, we won't order it. The Toast Duck probably would have been okay but the butcher really butchered the Duck. Bone fragments everywhere. I highly recommend that if it's a young guy playing butcher, take the whole Duck home or skip it altogether.

I came to this place to get some BBQ meat. They have quite a few options and they also chop them up for you. Pricing are pretty reasonable.

Ask the Community - Taishan BBQ

How much is the roast duck and buns?

It's $30 for the duck as of Mar 2023. How much inflation has crept in.

I have never did this about any Chinese food before but everything lacked salt. There were a few pieces of garlic and a few pieces of ginger in two of our dishes. We had a tiny bit of soy sauce left in the house that my husband got to before my daughter and I ate. He lucked out. The food was fresh. The veggies were perfectly cooked. But there was zero flavor. No sauce with two of the dishes that claimed to have some. Just boring. Tonight , the day after I chopped up most of the leftovers and made a soup. So it it is not going int the trash. However if I was not someone who knows how to cook it would have been in the bin. I hope that HKC can take this review and do better.

The restaurant is really big and we sat at a table for 14 pretty comfortably. We were also here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The service is your typical Chinese restaurant vibe where you leave a little bit emotionally abused after paying for overly priced menu items. We did the à la cart and easily spent up to $1500. Better off with the family plan meal but nothing was of interest to us except one or two dishes. It took forever to come out and I mean FOREVER to a point where we almost cancelled a few dishes and called it a night, but they kept saying it's being made. With as many people and as massive as the restaurant was, and the price tags, I was expecting a more efficient service. A couple of times we saw our dish being brought to the wrong table and the people going "oh we didn't order this." With all of that out of the way, I am giving them an average score of 3 starts because the food did bring them back up. It was actually really good. My favorite of all things we ordered was their sea bass with string beans. The sea bass was fried crispy, garnished salty and still soft inside. It paired really well with the string beans. We ordered a bunch of other things that I couldn't tell you what the name was in English and they were above average taste wise. Their complimentary dessert however, was mass produced and tasted like they added too much water to it. This was the only one I was disappointed in. I still say this place is extremely overpriced but for a family meal experience and if you ever want to impress a date, why not.

One standout was the Hai Nan Chicken, a super juicy whole chicken cut into pieces and served cold with ginger-scallion oil and peanuts on the side. A classic Hong Kong dish was the Baked Pork Chop, served in a casserole dish with a sweet tomato/onion sauce and melted cheese over spaghetti and topped with a fried egg. The BBQ Eel Stone Rice was their version of a Korean bibimbap, made with rice topped with assorted vegetables including carrots, cucumber, bean sprouts, shiitake, and pickled radish, along with sweet and spicy gochujang and a fried egg on top. The best part was of course the crispy rice that formed on bottom of the stone pot. Finally, we got a side dish of Chinese Broccoli, stir-fried with Chinese sausage and preserved meat, which added a salty and umami flavor. Overall, the food here was simple but delicious and made with quality ingredients. Everything came at reasonable prices along with fast, friendly service in a nice atmosphere too!

Staffing on the Yao Yao was only 1 waitress & a waiter bot. Orders: Sour Shredded Potato $16.95- crunchy potato sticks w/oil, chili peppers & seasoning. A different menu than other places & it was good, just a little oily. Garlic Pea Sprout $19.95-tender pea sprouts w/garlic bulbs cooked together makes this my favorite vegetable dish. Combo BBQ platter $29-BBQ pork, chicken & soy sauce chicken gives you a variety but my favorite was the pork. I am not used to the bony chicken pieces & having to de-bone them myself so I wouldn't order this again. Shrimp & BBQ pork Fried Rice $17-nice wok heat w/fresh pierces of shrimp made this a satisfying dish. It was a little bland but ok. Golden Soup Pickled Fish (S)$22.95-for the price this was the best bargain. The fish fillets are tender & the perfect size. The broth was a bit oily but still excellent & the star of the show. The slight tangy broth bc of the pickled vegetables gives this dish its unique flavor profile & my favorite. In addition to this, I was surprised w/a few pieces of potato noodle hidden inside this gem that gave it a chewy texture. Other than going on a hectic day, I'm sure service would be better on a weekday.

The manager demanded that I provide identification or certification for my service dog. I explained that under the Americans with Disabilities Act, businesses are not legally permitted to require service dog documentation as a condition of entry. Despite this explanation, the waiter repeatedly refused to serve us. When I talked to the manager to discuss the situation, she showed no willingness to address my concerns. Instead, she continued to deny any wrongdoing and repeatedly insisted that they would not serve us. What happened next was even more shocking. A restaurant employee repeatedly verbally confronted and threatened us. He even became increasingly aggressive and attempted to approach us in a physically threatening manner when we said we would report him and the restaurant to ADA and relative department. Two other individuals had to intervene repeatedly to stop him from coming toward us. I have never experienced such hostility and intimidation from restaurant staff simply for attempting to exercise my legal rights. I am extremely disappointed by the manager's handling of this situation and deeply concerned about the threatening behavior displayed by the employee. No customer should have to experience intimidation, threats, or potential discrimination simply for bringing a service dog into a restaurant. I am sharing this experience so that other customers, especially people with disabilities and service dog handlers, can make informed decisions about visiting this restaurant. This was not merely poor customer service. It was a deeply troubling experience involving potential disability discrimination and serious concerns about customer safety.
