Great and friendly staff - Recommend the Aji and grilled hamachi.

The authentic atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonable prices made a great experience. I can see myself coming back again!

I've heard good things about this izakaya from other friends and finally had a chance to check it out myself. I made reservations for Thursday dinner at 6 pm the day before for my party of 2, but it wasn't crowded at all and I don't think we needed reservations. We were both surprised, but I think 6 was a bit early for dinner. By the time we left around 7:15, the place was packed and people were starting to line up. There are a couple of tables for smaller groups of 2-3 people, a couple of booths for larger parties as well, and some bar seating. Overall the restaurant isn't very big. The menu selection here is huge. There's a giant sheet for just drinks, and then 4 pages for the food, which includes appetizers, fried or grilled meat, sashimi, sushi, and rice/noodle dishes. It's a lot of options, overwhelmingly so. It took my friend and me quite some time to decide what to share. We tried: Kaki fry ($9.80) - I'm not sure if I've had fried oysters before, but in general I like oysters so I thought I'd give it a try. They were surprisingly very good and much larger than I thought they would be. I liked that they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Gindara kama (black cod neck, $13) - this grilled dish was really good. It comes with two pieces oh, each with plenty of tender meat. Toro aburi salmon roll ($9) - this was by far the most disappointing dish of the night. The salmon toro wasn't seared enough on top, we both thought each piece came with too much rice, and I personally didn't like that they put ginger in the middle of the rice. I ended up picking out all of the ginger once I realized it was there. Unaten roll ($8.80) - this was a sushi roll with unagi and shrimp tempura. It was good but I wish there were more than four pieces Chopped scallop roll ($6.50) - I enjoyed this role quite a lot; the scallops tasted very fresh We also each ordered four pieces of nigiri sushi. I had the mega negi toro, hotate (scallop), aji, and salmon toro. All were fantastic, especially the hotate and the negi toro.

A beautifully designed Japanese restaurant located in South Burnaby that will make you feel like you transported to Japan! Specializing in fresh, traditional Japanese eats, presented in an Izakaya format, Tairyou is the perfect place to enjoy a low-key dinner with friends or a light midnight snack to satisfy your sushi cravings! Nigiri is priced by the piece so the costs add up, but it's totally worth it for delicious and fresh fish. I also love how they have a large menu with a ton of variety, catering to both those who want just a light snack and those who are looking for more of a dinner

Food is ok..customer service is average I ordered the eel and shrimp tempura and the tuna sashimi tuna is super fresh. Price is average.

Pretty good japanese restaurant got good selections of food and fresh fishes handcrated by japanese. But its just pretty expensive in my perspective though. Its worth it to go still even though it is pretty expensive not many japanese restaurants can keep up to this level. Cheers!

If you are always finding that some sushi restaurants are lacking in the amount of sashimi in their rolls or nigiri or enjoy a more generous sashimi to rice ratio Tairyou is the place for you to visit! They have a list of nigiris and rolls with mega size option! They literally double the portion of the sashimi in the roll/nigiri. We ordered the Mega-Negitoro + Overflow Chopped Scallop + Saldana Tempura + Tairyou Assorted Sashimi + Negihana Roll. Since it was our first time here we thought we have TI trout their mega sushi! So we tried out the mega Negitoro and Chopped Scallop negiri. Both had a bountiful of sashimi for starters. I particularly liked the chopped scallop - the scallops were much more plump and fresh than a lot of places I have had before! Several tables ordered the Tairyou assorted sashimi, which was a decent price for the variety of sashimi for $28. If you are not particular with your sashimi. Another favourite was the tempura with the three fish varieties in that dish. The batter is light and crispy and I almost wished I had a bowl of rice to enjoy it as a tendon!

While this restaurant has great sushi selection, the food was mediocre and the service was notably slow. What was intended to be a reasonable 1.5 hour meal turned into a 3 hour meal (most of which was waiting for food, throughout the entire time). [Items Tried] Deluxe Assorted Sashimi - $28 (4/5) Taste: The fish was relatively fresh and I enjoyed the variety of fish. Portion Size: Good for 3 people. Nigiri by the Piece (Salmon Toro, Unagi, Ankimo, Engawa with Shisho) - $1-4 (3/5) Taste: Salmon toro was average - it was not extremely flavourful, fatty, or fresh. Unagi was decent. Ankimo is monkfish liver and I tried it for the first time - I don't think it was very fresh and my cousin noted that she has had better elsewhere, the texture was kind of rough and hard. The shisho in the engawa nigiri was way too overpowering and the engawa could have been fattier and meltier. [Value for Money] Overall, for the selection that you get, the price is pretty cheap. However, I would recommend ordering takeout or making reservations and coming to the restaurant at a non-peak hour.

Tairyou Ichiba is a Japanese Restaurant, located on Kingsway Burnaby. I have passed by this restaurant every day on or off work. But, I have never been eaten at this place before. Finally, my fiance and I have decided to give a try at this place. Our experience is OK. Environment: Tairyou Ichia has very unique ancient wooden doors, which is different from other restaurants. Inside the restaurant, it's decorated with banners and Japanese artwork everywhere. This is a medium-sized restaurant. People can eat at the dining table with family or at the bar section by themselves. Service: This restaurant only opens from 5:30 pm to midnight every day. So, we came to this place right after work. The service is OK. The waitress is a little bit bossy. But, they are handling food and take orders fast. Food: Since it was our first time having food at this place, we decided a little bit everything to eat, such as sushi rolls, seafood, sashimis, and etc. The food came out of the kitchen fast. All the dishes have a great presentation. The sushi is delicious and authentic. Comparing with many sushi restaurants owned by Koreans, this place is an authentic Japanese Restaurant. The owners and waitresses all spoke Japanese. Because of this, all the dishes are so pricy. Final Thoughts: If you would like to try some authentic Japanese sushi rolls, Tairyou Ichia is a good place to go.

A truly wonderful experience! This is my third time here while visiting Vancouver; this place is a mandatory stop every time I visit! While this place has consistently good quality of foods and service, I was very impressed with our most recent visit, we came here in a party of 8 and were seated promptly. Since there were more of us this time around, we decided to order a wide range of food, including appetizers, deep fried items, raw sushi, and other various things. I wish I had taken more photos, but we ate them too fast! (Oops, sorry!) All of our items came out in a timely manner and were all very delicious! The reason why I especially love this place is the extremely decent pricing. For about 7 pieces of premium fish sushi including toro, yellowtail belly, and uni, the price only averages out to about 20 dollars (whereas where I am from it would be about 80 to 100 usd) so fresh and such a deal! We had come here to celebrate a birthday and the staff was kind enough to take a few photos of our group for us! (Thank you!). The owner even came out to wish our friend a happy birthday and made sure we were taken care of which I really appreciated! Vancouver has so many wonderful places but this Izakaya especially makes me feel comfortable and welcomed, which is one of the reasons why I will always be coming back every time I visit!

Appetizer peanuts~

Finally had a chance to try this place for a proper dinner. As appies, before you get started, they give you free peanuts. Yay! Ebi sashimi - prawns with their heads attached still, but the shells removed from their bodies. Quite fresh as there was no fishy taste. Miso soup - tasty, but typical. Salmon sashimi - fresh, but fish is farmed. Beef salad - nice sauteed pieces. Great flavour. Sushi rolls - no complaints, but nothing special either. Generous portions of tuna on the negitoro. Sashimi combo - various types of animals, such as squid and geoduck. Special mention goes to the tuna salad. The dish had a lot of filler though, as half the dish was shredded daikon. There was also a raw filleted fish as a decoration. I wanted them to fry it so I could eat it, but they wanted $1.50 for that. Booo. Kimchi udon - kimchi could've been a bit tangier, but there was a nice mix of flavours. Toro sushi - nice fatty pieces, but I've had better elsewhere. The food was fairly similar (similar but slightly lower quality) compared to Ebisu, but the pricing here is a bit more reasonable as well.

Tairyou Ichiba is a fairly busy Japanese restaurant located on Kingsway in Burnaby. From the outside, the main identifying aspect is their large wooden door, which seems to be a hold over from the last Japanese restaurant that occupied this location (Kura Japanese). Like Kura before them, Tairyou Ichiba (Japanese for big fish market) has a fairly extensive menu to choose from. On the inside, the unexpectantly tall ceilings gives the place an airy feel. I'm not much of a fan of the low-backed chairs, however, as it doesn't give you anywhere to hang your jacket. We started off with an order of Gomaae ($4). I found that the spinach was oddly crunchy - almost like it was kale instead of spinach. The Assorted Sashimi ($18) included a chef's selection of cuttlefish, seaweed, mackerel, tuna, clam, and salmon sashimi. I'm not usually a fan of cuttlefish or clam sashimi but these weren't that bad. The rest of the sashimi was pretty good but not overly so. More or less average given the price point. By far, I think the Agedashi Tofu ($4.50) was the best dish of our visit. I loved the dashi broth that it was served in and I wanted to just drink it all up. The Chicken and Green Onion Yakitori ($4) was another good pick here. There's something about how green onions/leeks pair with grilled chicken meat. Ever since we had it in Japan, I make sure to try this whenever I see it on a menu back home. Tuna Kama ($5.80) is a grilled dish of the "collar" area of the tuna fish. We had some good fish collars in Japan and I've also had a pretty outstanding salmon kama at Sushi Modo on Edmonds. Unfortunately, the tuna collar here was a miss as the tuna was quite dry and seemed overcooked. Normally, you'd expect the meat here to be quite buttery and flavourful. Last to arrive at our table was our order of Oyster Motoyaki ($6.50 each). I was surprised at how large of a dish these were served in but the price is a bit on the expensive side considering that most of the dish is filled with pieces of onions. I came back the following week by accident (I was trying to go to another restaurant nearby but it was closed) and wound up ordering the Spicy Chicken Karaage Don ($8). I was surprised by the large, boneless, skin-on pieces of chicken... they were quite juicy and moist to the bite. The sauce was a bit sweet and a bit sour and slightly spicy. In addition to the generous serving of chicken, the bowl came with a pile of shredded cabbage on top of the rice. A fairly good value for the price but I found the sauce wound up being too sweet and sour for my liking towards the end of my meal. Overall, there are some good and some bad here with prices that are relatively cheap for certain items. You get what you pay for.

Later on when we were ready our order was taken by a male staff member. We ordered a decent amount. Miso cheese eggplant, chawan-mushi, fried fish collar served in some kind of broth, 8pc nigiri omakase, blue fin tuna&uni hand cone, another hand cone but I can't remember what was in it..wifey ordered it, vegetable tempura and a black truffle dynamite roll. The highlight for me was the black truffle dynamite roll, it's taste was perfect. The right amount of truffle used and not over powering like I've had at so many other venues. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and I would go back for special occasions.

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.
