The food was made fresh and came out fast. We had an early flight and this was the only thing open. Service was good. Coffee was also good and there was some seating in there but i can see if it's busy it might fill up in there fast. read more

I love this unexpectedly nice spot to eat in an otherwise super small airport. Decent sized menu for breakfast and lunch. My food both times was pretty good and whippped out quickly by the short order cook in the back. You can even get expresso coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos and smoothies to go with your meal. Tables let you eat here vs at the gate but if you would like you can get it to go as well. read more

I didn't get to take any photos this time around because finding the Yelp page for what I had at the Tri-Cities Airport before going through TSA was a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, I think this is what I am supposed to be reviewing? I'll say it is for simplicity's sake. Now, before I got to eat here, we had found out last minute that my flight ended up getting pushed back over an hour. It was pushed back by enough time that I actually had to have my connecting flight out of Charlotte changed. This actually made for a nice discussion with the food servers there after I had gotten my food and eaten it. It also allowed me to have enough time before flight to find out that McKellar's Grill on the other side of TSA is the exact same restaurant as you would have in the main lobby before going through the checkpoint. So I will say here it was good to have a last minute meal with my dad and brother before I flied back home. Also because the employees were nice-ish, this is closer to a 3 and a half than a 3, but for food reasons this isn't enough to bring this up to a 4. So for the food we had, my dad ordered a bit later, but I had the Tennessee Platter that had the chicken tenders and fries, my brother had The Standard (a burger), and my dad did the BLT. The food was served hot which was welcome. I will say that while my food was hot and seasoned okay, I could tell the chicken I was given was processed. It didn't take away from the taste so much that I couldn't finish eating, but it's not worth the $17 before tax it costed in my humble opinion. My brother and dad liked their food as well, but my dad agreed that his food wasn't $15 good. I did get a change to try one of the tater tots that came in my brother's meal. That had a nice crunch to them that was welcome. Again, it didn't look like that would have been worth the cost. If I were to price these meals based on what we thought they were worth, I'd knock the $17 my meal was down to $10 as well as the BLT, and the burger would also be around $10 as well. Also, if you add sides, you pay an additional $4.49, and they're not worth adding that much money to the bill, especially considering you get about as much as you would in a normal fast food side anyway. Again, 1 or 2 dollars, fine. Not $4.49. You also have to wait a bit to receive your food, so unless you have time before your flight, then I would perhaps save your money for something else. This benefits from being like one of the only choices you can order from in the airport and you get nice enough service, but I would only recommend eating here if you fall under at least one of the following: you have a few hours to spare before your flight, if you do not have a connecting flight where you are changing planes at and can just go to the baggage claim once you land, you won't have enough time between flights to get something during your layover, or several hours will pass by the time you next get to eat. If you wanna ask me where I fell this particular, the first and the fourth scenarios described me on this flight. read more

I got the peach mango smoothie for like 10$ and it is natural fruit and everything but it tastes like dried fruit that's sour. For some reason it also tastes like old fruit that's mushy. I need sugar in this.. Whoever likes sweet drinks this is not it. read more

I had breakfast here. It was surprisingly delicious, for an airport eatery. Eggs with crispy edges, sausage and buttered toast (maybe sourdough) cooked on a grill like grilled cheese is. Best airport breakfast ever. Traveling companions raved about the avocado toast. read more

The only option for Food at the Tri-Cites Regional Airport. Strolled in for before my flight home on a Sunday morning. Breakfast sandwich, and a bottled sweet tea from their wide selection of gaterade, and various types of carbonated surgery things. Sandwich was great. Couple of odd things: I asked for a cup of ice, which for me is a requirement for sweet/iced tea. I was told there would be a 55 cents charge for the ice. I purchased the drink from them, you'd think they'd comp the ice. Not a big deal, just irritating. I chalk it up to airport monopoly extortion. :) There is a full bar in the restaurant, but on Sundays they can't serve anything before noon. read more

This place is the worst! If you are unlucky enough to have to fly out of one of the 4 gates at Tri-Cities Airport, TN and you are thinking, maybe I should have a few drinks before I get out of here...just don't. I sat and waited at the bar for no less than 12 minutes with no one ever appearing in either the store or the bar. I ended up having to call the actual Tailwind Bar and ask them to send someone to the bar so I could give them money. read more

I'm a flight attendant and have eaten at dozens and dozens of airports. I'm not sure what the other reviewers expected from an airport grab-and-go. I thought it was delicious! read more

If you fly out of the Tri-Cities Airport you are better off waiting until you reach your destination for food. The Tailwind Bar & Grill doesn't have a grill. Warm food is prepared in a microwave/toaster oven. Yum! Egg sandwich uses scientifically altered egg like substance. Turkey sandwich is from a bird that never had feathers. God only knows what hot dogs are. Regardless what you order, the minimum will set you back $10 just for a sandwich. I haven't felt this ripped off since getting a drink at the O-rena Magic game years ago. read more

I entered this restaurant with the lowest of expectations but alas they were still expectations; it would behoove the next customers to leave all expectations at the door. I was delighted to see that there was a turkey bacon avocado sandwich on the menu. It's pretty hard to screw that one up but fear not, good reader, Tailwind succeeded! They warmed up the turkey and melted some cheese on it, threw in some old, previously cooked bacon, and then smeared some avocado spread; this was not actual avocados (I'm still unsure if there were any actual avocados used in making this smear) but some sort of green mayonnaise mixture with possibly a hint of avocado. I pay $11.50 for this atrocity. God help me if there is a next time but if I were to be stuck in this hellhole during a zombie apocalypse, I would rather gnaw on my own body parts. read more

It's literally your only option once you got through the security line. For a 1 terminal/7 gate airport, I guess you can't expect much else. I've eaten here twice, and at least the waiter/cashier/chef/do-all has been kind to me both times and admitted that the restaurant was overprice and tried to be accommodating. In order to get the salad we wanted, he was willing to take apart pre-made/pre-packaged sandwiches to scrounge up a decent open faced sandwich. He really does try, so I gave it two stars. Although! He brought out our open face sandwich/salad toppings attempt and then I noticed he was stocking the fridge instead of making the sandwich I had ordered as well (Veggie sandwich with aioli and guacamole). I went over and asked how long until he thought the sandwich would be done, and he realized that he forgot mine and rushed to make it, while offering me any bag of chips or candy bar for free as his apology. All in all, we ordered a pre-packaged salad, two sandwiches, and one gatorade and the bill came out to nearly $45... ?$%*#! That seemed ridiculous, but like I said-- it's your only option. They also sell some travel conviences in case you forgot them such as soap, advil, sunscreen, shampoo, headphones, neck pillow, sudoku books, etc. But they're also closed by 8pm, I believe. Unavoidable due to it being the only food option at the airport. I was appalled by how short staffed they were. How can you have one person taking orders, working as a bartender & making food. Treat your employees better so they don't get stressed out and roll their eyes at a customer when the customer makes a mistake. read more

This is Tri-Cities Regional Airport's only dining option. The pulled pork sandwich is surprisely good! The pulled pork is grilled, giving a slight crispiness. Ordered fries and a drink, where were standard fare. The value of the meal is highly influenced by the available competition and location. read more
