Pretty normal bar food but our sandwiches were really good and our server was attentive.

Food = Good enough. Service = Inadequate. Our Thursday night prearranged dinner for about 25 weary out of state travelers was scheduled for 6:30 PM. We arrived together in time and were promptly seared in a private room. So far, so good. From there the service became glacial. The meals we ordered arrived after 8:00 PM and the checks after 9:00 PM. Two and a half hours involuntary incarceration Is just too long. The three young ladies serving our tables were gracious, industrious, and determined to treat us well. Admittedly, the main saloon was also packed with raucous inebriants wanting food and drink. We had a cheeseburger, fries and the Coney Island sandwich (ham, cheese, and bacon) and the macaroni salad. It was all great. The cheeseburger was cooked just as I asked-well done and it came out hot and juicy. The bun was buttered and toasted. The service was friendly and the prices were right. The burger was huge. The restaurant is unique! T-Rex, movie posters, and even a signed autograph from Howdy Doody. The bar is quite loud and the noise bounces throughout the restaurant. When ordering-first find out what is in stock. They appear to run out of items. For example, even though mimosas are on happy hour, they were out of champagne and unwilling to substitute another wine drink. They were also out of house made chips that was integral to several appetizers. Also... menus are not updated. For example I ordered a drink in a complimentary hurricane glass which they no longer offer. I found that out after the drink arrived. They do offer complimentary pint glasses with beer and our young server was able to get me one of those. The wings, however, won the day. When dipped into a wonderful ranch dressing they were just plain good! And the slightly overcooked potato skins were very good as well with a healthy helping of cheese anbacon. read more

Great time as I was visiting the area and love the small town atmosphere and the upgrade to the patio. I am giving a solid 4 based on bar service as we did not have food. The bartender Bella really knows how to engage customers and is super efficient and friendly. We stayed longer than we planned due to engagement of the bar patrons and service. We were seated promptly and with a smile. Our drink orders were taken immediately and served quickly. We ordered spicy potato skins which were served hot and timely. The hamburger was very good per my husband. The onion soup is extremely salty. Then although there were many open booths, we had two men seated behind us and then a woman joined there. They talked and talked and talked . The one man was very large and had a large voice. On top of that the music was very loud. We had to ask for silverware and napkins and our waitress forgot to bring it so then we searched for someone to bring utensils and napkins. Daughter's mushroom burger was raw and had a hair in it. Ordered wings (daily special) and although menu says comes with dipping sauce and celery, was told celery would be an extra charge. Also had to eat buffalo hot wings without getting a refill until I was finished with them, which they weren't that great btw. Fried pickles were good, everything else, not so much! Titanic was decent not enough dip, fruit was mid, not very fresh. Would consider coming back to try other food, wings not so much, no wonder they are on special, total bleh experience! Where to start... Excellent waitress, and an excellent test in patience. Over 90 minutes and we have had numerous refills on our drinks and finished our appetizer about 45 minutes ago. The appetizer we ordered was fine. The waitress was excellent in covering for the apparently inept kitchen staff. Running out of cups and silverware is unacceptable. Now the food... fries seem to be straight out of the refrigerator from last nights leftovers. We stopped at this Macado's because we saw the sign advertisement on the side of I-81. It's a very small Macado's compared to others we've been to, but the food & drinks were great, as always. They have an extensive list of sandwiches but I went with the "create your own" option. My husband had the loaded hot dog and he said it was exceptional! The bartender was great and we met an awesome group in the bar area - we didn't want to leave but we had to continue on our trip. We travel this route often and we'll definitely remember this stop in Marion VA! read more

All of the food we ordered was great and there was plenty' of it. Our server was really up beat and knowledgeable about all the products food we had asked about. Entered the restaurant, asked if our party of four could sit at a table in the bar area to seat ourselves - we had our (very obviously) 12yo daughter. We were rudely asked by the hostess if she was over the age of 21...The hostess asked the bartender if we could sit in the bar area and she said absolutely not. However, when you first sit down at the bar, be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes before someone checks to see whether you want a drink. FOOD: Macado's is supposed to be a sandwich haven. The grade here is incomplete, but it is an extensive "bar food" menu. I got a burger which I grade as a "B." RESTROOMS: Going to be honest. Grade is "F." Urine on floor. Tops of toilet & urinal haven't been cleaned in weeks. Anytime the bathroom is gross, it makes me wonder about the kitchen. The bathroom is just plain unacceptable. I am sorry that people are gross, but if you want to see a clean bathroom, go to any Buc-ee's or Chick-fil-a. They have figured it out. A clean bathroom inspires confidence in the kitchen cleanliness standards & food quality. BOTTOM LINE: In other markets, Macado's is a "C+." In this area of WV & VA, it is the only game in town. It has a fair number of TVs even if they aren't all perfectly positioned, but it is a good place to watch sports. Unique decor, massive menu, and mediocre food. We had high hopes when entering this old, what looks to be bank building. We decided to start with the chip, pretzel, and tortilla dip trio and sweet red chili boneless wings. All of it was good except the salsa that went with the tortillas; it was blah and tasted like store bought salsa. The onion dip and beer cheese were good, as were the wings. We both settled on wraps for our entrees. My husband said his Buffalo chicken wrap that has ranch rather than the more traditional blue cheese and he said it was good. I got the Kanoder wrap and it wasn't bad, but not good either; very very underwhelming. The avocado was nice and creamy but I couldn't taste the ranch, onion or the Munster cheese that was on it. For our sides we got the macaroni and potato salad. It was the blandest, flavorless salads we've ever had. Not even salt and pepper could save it. We took a few bites to be sure we weren't missing something and pushed it aside. Service was just slightly on the slow side, our waitress was nice though, it was the food that was slow but it was a nice Sunday at the beginning of summer so I'd bet the kitchen was short staffed. I had a hot dog and my husband had a roast beef sub. Both meals were okay. Queso dip as the appetizer was the worse I've ever had. The chips were very stale. Too many options on menu. Fun place for lunch. Went yesterday. Had The Bronx Bomber sandwich. HUGE menu choice of sandwiches. The place was an old Post Office converted to a restaurant. Lots of collectible and memorabilia throughout the restaurant. Guitars signed by Willie Nelson and Elton John were above where I was sitting. I'm was a good place to eat. I smacked hard on the barnyard, let me tell you. Coke just hits different out of their plastic cups. Scooped up the fries, those were super nice with that Cajun crisp if you feel me. Pickle slices were fatter than a canoe and juicier than a fresh squeezed lemonade. The desk clerk at my motel recommended that I head into town for dinner as there were several locally owned establishments there. The facade gave me the impression that this would be a good place for a steak - yeah, no. The menu was not a gourmet offering, more along the lines of extended pub food. But it is still a nice place. I'd go back if I were not 400 miles away. This review will tell you about my food, the building history/decor and the wonderful service. Salad came out quickly and the blue cheese dressing was wonderful. I later learned it was not made on premises, but came out of a bottle. Evidently, it was a wonderful bottle. Being diabetic, I had to avoid the temptation of the garlic bread. It was a great blend of flavors. I chose to cut back on the pasta I ordered to balance the carb overload from the bread. Pasta in my dish was an unusual experience. Since it was a baked pasta, the pasta exposed from the sauce was nice and al dente, but the pasta under the sauce was just a tad soggy. It is so hard to balance that. The chicken on top was wonderfully tender and flavorful. I loved the pasta sauce. I passed on dessert. A former post office houses the restaurant. A warm welcoming interior is offset by the absolute plastering of nostalgic posters. It looked like they tried to cover every square inch. It was fun reading it all, but made for a different ambiance. Take time to look at the vault, lobby layout and imagine all the goings on in the back portion of the old post office. Kaitlyn was my server - I think. She was fantastic, and even overly accommodating. It took several communications between her, the bartender and I to nail down the correct interpretation of "bourbon, neat". She was very interested in my opinion of the food. On the road, I ordered a full bottle of wine with the intent of taking most of it back to the hotel with me. She brought out a glass of wine. When I reminded her that I ordered a bottle, she apologized and told me there were not full bottles available. She got a manager type person. That manager did offer me a bottle of wine that was not on the menu - deal! He too, spent time talking with me and learning about the reason for my travels. read more

Terrible experience. I placed an online order before 5:30pm to be picked up at 6pm on a Sunday evening. I arrived at 5:57pm, talked to the hostess or a server - whoever was at the front desk. I told her I was there for an online order pickup. First, she couldn't find my name. Then she found the order and printed the ticket and took it to the back. Come to find out they hadn't started working on the order yet. Another server came out of the back to tell me they were still working on my order, meaning they hadn't started it. It was 2 cold cut sandwiches, why does that take 45 mins? I told her it was supposed to be ready at 6pm and asked how long it would be because I didn't have more than 10 mins to wait. She went back to the kitchen and came back to tell me "it's gonna be about 10 mins". I said, then please let me talk to the manager so I can get a refund. She leaves and comes back out. Says nothing else. No apologies. Justin the manager comes out 2 mins later with a deer in the headlights look. I tell him what happened and I that needed a refund. He didn't care. He voided it - or at least he said he did. No receipt of the canceled transaction and wouldn't let me take a photo of the screen. No apology for the inconvenience, no smile, didn't care. He handled that the opposite of how a manager should. Very sad in today's struggling restaurant climate. read more

Was over charged twice first bill was $60 then $82 then updated to $90 it was 3 people eating with 2 sides and 2 entrees I asked for Lemonade and was told it was out after being asked if I wanted more tea then I responded with the lemonade? And was told oh it's out I'll get you tea. Was charged extra for ranch I never received nor was I told it would be extra. Service was terrible my family got rushed to order and the stuff was made wrong. We came from out of town and was highly disappointed. Honestly can say we won't be back . Came in for dinner to our local small business. Walked into to be seated, hostess or waitress approached and asked how many. There were 3 of us. Nothing difficult. She said give me minute and disappeared. The manager came out and we advised someone already helped us. But instead of waiting on us for our business he insisted on one person in the party to put on a mask. They did. And then the manager disappeared. We stood there and watched multiple personnel pass and people exit. (with and without masks). No service for us and eventually we left. This was the most disappointing experience I've ever had at Macados. We normally hit it everytime we are in town. We loved this local small business. You can bet this will probably be the last.
