As a busy healthcare worker during the COVID pandemic, I decided to try Tailoring NYC due to the perfect 5 star reviews. Boy was it a mistake, costing me nearly $2,000 ($1500 jacket + $340 alterations). Future clients, beware that you WILL NOT RECEIVE what you think. I will consider my near $2000 loss an investment as it will help you avoid this mishap. I will tell my colleagues, and I hope you do as well, about the extraordinarily poor suit tailoring at this place. If you need any more proof, refer to the picture of the email etiquette from the owner. They are purely there to make (perhaps take) money. My purpose in writing this review is to help future clients understand that the 5 star reviews for this place are not indicative of what you get here, a very tricky thing to ascertain with many places having boosting of their reviews. What was my purpose in trying this place? Well, as someone who has been spending almost all his time in the hospital, my time is limited and for 5 stars, you expect not only near-perfect alterations, but also this done in a professional and timely manner. When I first visited this place, I was greeted by a woman who seems to be the primary person that measures/pins you. She did not introduce herself by name. As I tried on the jackets, she seemed to pressure customers quite a bit, pinning and saying (without me asking) that X Y Z alteration would be done. What I thought was incredibly odd was that she requested me to button both buttons on a 2-button suit during pinning. When I noted that the standard is to button only the top, she said that all the men with suits that she has seen button both. I knew this was utterly wrong, and skeptical at this point. I was particularly hesitant about them messing with the shoulders since that is a tough thing for all but the best tailors. She also showed me a suit on a mannequin noting how well they tailor suits. Funnily, I noticed that one of the shoulders was actually sewn on half a centimeter higher than the other, creating an asymmetric look. Despite all this, I decided to trust the 5 star reviews and proceed. The first attempt left the shoulders narrow and with huge divots. At first, the woman blamed the sweater I was wearing. When I took off my sweater and wore the blazer on top of my bare skin, the divots were still there just as prominent and she had nothing to say! The tailor came and assured me that he could fix it. The second attempt saw the shoulder divot fixed but with the use of some shoulder support material that changed the overall "feel" of the jacket (shoulders were now more prominent and not a relaxed look). There was also a huge wad of cloth in the upper back. Again, the lady blamed what I was wearing when clearly it is not that with any other suit I own. I once again wore the suit with a bare chest and she had no excuses. Does a gentleman really need to become bare for a tailor to own up to their mistakes? The third attempt resulted in the pictures below - huge amount of fabric left over in the upper back still and numerous small divots around all the suit panel edges. A $50 off the rack suit looks finer than this! After a 15-hour shift, I was utterly shocked and disappointed. I ended up emailing the owner how disappointed I was. Luckily, I took my other 3 jackets of the same brand/fit to another tailor who did a near-perfect job, on the first try. Lastly, to be fair, they did a good job of hemming pants though it took two attempts.

Unfortunately I had a very poor experience here and will not be back…read more For starters you have to enter a fabric shop and descend the stairs in the back of the shop to get to where they do the alterations. The place to change was simply a thin black fabric sheet that was nearly see through strung up next to the water heater/furnace. Needless to say this made me very weary of changing knowing there were many men in the shop just on the other side of the curtain. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be hemmed and brought it in without bothering to bring the high heels I intended to wear with it because I was experiencing some foot swelling and they wouldn't have fit my foot at the time to begin with. I immediately addressed this with the person marking the dress and told them my heels were about 4 inches high so to please add on an additional 3- 3 1/2 inches to the height indicated so the dress would still be floor length when I wear the heels. The communication between myself and the person marking the dress was extremely clear and there were even written notes indicating the extra length to be kept on the dress. I was surprised by the price for the hemming, but they justified the dress was 3 layers and I had to pay prior to them doing the work and they even asked for a tip upfront too! I left the shop confident everything would turn out as expected, as I assumed the high price would guarantee a job well done. Within a week the dress was ready for pickup and I check the seems before leaving, but do not bother trying on the dress as I trusted they did exactly as we had agreed upon. The seems did not look very nice to me, a touch sloppy and wasn't completely straight, but at the end of the day I knew no one else would be looking closely so I accepted the dress and left. I tried on the dress at home only to find out it was even shorter than where the markings were during the fitting! Even flat-footed without any shoes on, the dress did not touch the ground. It was a disaster once I put my intended high heels on and it was the equivalent of high-waters but with a dress. In a panic I text or email them and even provide photos. They say I could bring it back, but by that point I only had a few days before the wedding and even if they let out the seems, one inch of fabric was not enough when it was missing at least 3 inches! They did go so far as to offering to purchase me another dress and to redo the hemming which I do think was above and beyond in attempting to make it right, but the dress was a special order color and there was no way to get another one in time. I finally spoke to the bride who just didn't want to risk the dress getting more messed up and asked to keep it as-is and the final resolution I received from the business was just a vague offer to discount a future service, no offer to even partially refund me for the poor work that had already been paid for. I ended up having to wear some much lower shoes and just bend my legs a bit in the photos so my dress looked the same length as the other bridesmaids. Overall my experience here was poor and I wouldn't want to risk another special occasion garment coming out not as expected. With so many other shops offering alterations in the area for a similar or cheaper price point I would choose another place.

Went here a few months ago to get some suits tailored. Tailor job was good, but the service was…read moresome of the worst I've ever experienced and that alone is enough to make sure I never go back. When I dropped my things off, I was told it would be ready and given a range of days to pick it up. I went by the last day in the pickup range, and not everything was ready yet. I grabbed the stuff that was and asked when my last article would be ready. They again gave me a pickup date. I came by on the second pickup date and the suit was still not ready. I was never notified that the timeframe had changed or anything, they just let me show up and wasted my time twice in a row.
