If you want to be taken to the cleaners and pay for alterations more than what you had paid for your clothes come here be taken advantage of. I needed three suits altered. Angel was away on business so his daughter was runningring the show. She had me try on each suit and began marking where the alterations were to be made. She never actually wrote them down. There was a charge for the shoulders, a charge for the back, a charge for a sleeve, a charge for the waist, a charge to move a pocket, a charge for the inseam, a charge for a hem. Tit for tat.... When I came back for my fitting, the some of the alterations were done on the incorrect items. I was told I had to pay to alter them as well, despite my protest. When I came back again for a fitting, on one suit jacket, where the Shoulder was corrected, the sleeve was now too short, once again, I can go on and on. She refused to accept responsibility for any errors or miscommunication. There was no reasoning with her. The only response I kept getting was the prices are pre set. RIDICULOUS!!! If I didn't need one of the suits ASAP there would have been war. My final total for three suits was 1200 DOLLARS !!! Had I paid with a credit card this would not have been an issue, my dispute would have taken care of things. However, when I went to give a large deposit which they insisted upon, I asked if they would take cash for a tax discount (a common practice) I was told sure. I was given a 3% discount. I was expecting something in the neighborhood of 10%. After I left I remember there is NO TAX ON Alterations. Once again this very unprofessional, without any business sense, nor customer relations experience sarcastic, know it all would not even consider reasoning. I am very disappointed, with this whole experience, and am considering it i do not get any type of satisfaction, having my attorney bring action against them. read more

I've never hugged a tailor before. Until I met Angel at Tony's Tailor. So look... I'll be honest that I didn't have a good experience with Tony when he owned the place, but Tony's retired. Angel, the new owner, is a magician with suits, and he's very reasonably priced for basic tailoring like waists and pant legs. I've invested in really nice business suits over the years, but I recently lost about 30 pounds. As a custom tailor, Angel was able to take apart my suits and make them look they were custom made for my new body: * Pants waist * Remove pants pleats (amazing!!!) * Reduce shoulder width (amazing!!!) * Jacket chest and mid-section * Adjusting jacket sleeve length for perfect shirt sleeve peek-out I originally thought such extensive alterations wouldn't be worth the money and I would have to buy all new clothes, but I was surprised by Angel's estimate. He was able to advise which suits were worth saving, and the alterations ended up costing a quarter to the third of the cost of a new suit. Plus, these suits look better than ever on me. He also took care of all my chinos, jeans and slacks for much less than all the other tailors in town. Brought in several jackets and pants for tailoring. Pants were fine but jackets were not great, even though I agreed to pay more for a more custom look tailoring. Twice he offered to drop off clothing when it was not ready on the promised date. Neither time did he follow through on that promise. One time he handed me a pair of pants that were not mine. One pair of pants that he tailored came back with the buckle missing. When I brought them back he told me he would call me as soon as fixed. It has been over a year (I gave up in frustration). Excellent tailor, the work is superb and extremely detailed. You will not find this quality anywhere in this area. You may pay a little more then a dry cleaner but if you value you clothes then you will want someone to care for it as if it was their own. read more

When i needed my suit to be altered in such a short amount time, they fixed my suit in a flash and it's literally the best suit that i have worn all my life. It fits, tight, but comfortable! Simply put, Angel is a master tailor. He has handmade two shirts for me from scratch out of high quality broad cloth cotton that he ordered from Italy, done extensive alterations on a suit jacket and several wool work pants and ordered some super 150 Italian wool pants and a tuxedo from a high quality Italian wholesale manufacturer, all at very reasonable prices given the quality. I even brought in a favorite shirt with a small rip in it which any other tailor would have said was irredeemable, and Angel fixed it by taking some material from the bottom of the shirt and lining up the stripes perfectly. We are incredibly lucky to have a tailor of this quality in Montclair. His daughter Diana is also a tailor and designer with a degree from FIT, and the two of them are very nice people and very serious about their craft. So this happened a couple of years ago but is so outrageous that it warrants space here. I went in to Tony's to have a pair of jeans hemmed. After I changed into the jeans Tony came back to pin them up. I requested to have the original cuffs put back on, it looks like you never had them hemmed if it's done that way. Tony said no, and I thought he misunderstood what I wanted. I tried to explain and yes, he knew what I wanted, he just kept saying it couldn't be done, becoming agitated and gruff. He proceeded to shout at me that I was wasting his time. He threw up his hands and yelled "Get out of my store!" That's right...I was thrown out of a tailor's shop! I have never been thrown out of an establishment before and never expect to be again as I am a mild-mannered petite woman. As Tony is a short little guy I recommend that he hire a bouncer if he's going to strong-arm people out of his shop. It's sad that he just couldn't fess up that he didn't know how to reattach a hem. Though I have to say, that's not an esoteric request and makes me question his overall competency. I actually love the fact that I was ejected from the premises!! It makes for a good story. Would give a no-star rating if I could. Or negative stars...they should definitely have a negative star option. Needless to say, though I will..."Don't go here!" read more

From what I saw he had a series of satisfied customers coming in just in the short time I was in the shop getting measured for alterations. He is a trained and experienced tailor, not somebody that does double duty at the dry cleaner. read more
