Brought in a pair of dress pants for a simple waist and hem adjustment. They took weeks, charged a premium, and still botched the job -- the waist was uneven and the hems puckered. When I complained, they refused a refund and only offered to "redo" the work. Poor craftsmanship, slow service, and zero accountability. read more

Fantastic tailor! I was on a huge time crunch and needed some pieces altered for a wedding I was attending. Another tailor actually recommended Charlie's for me as they were unable to accommodate the date I would need my clothing back by. I was apprehensive going here because I had no idea what was going to be. And the gown that needed alterations was for my son's upcoming wedding... super important!! I have never met a more experienced and lovely person. her name is Tracy and I believe she is the owner. She knew exactly what the dress needed even before I could open my mouth . I had no idea that I needed certain things done and when she pointed it out and pinned it ,that made a world of difference. I read another review from a so-called blogger... Who called her "some old blonde lady"... First of all it's despicable of this person to be a agist and I have a newsflash for that blogger! I was really impressed with my experience here. Marco was a true professional. I came in with 2 suits that were starting to look zoot-suit-esque. Way too baggy. I didn't end up having any work done, as I had decided to cut my losses. That being said, Marco and the rest of the staff were so considerate in holding my suit and allowing me to pick it up a few days later, at no charge. Brought a Brunello suit in for alterations. A tailor I'd been working with for years recently went out of business and wouldn't trust such a suit to just anyone. Reviews were generally​ positive so I thought I'd give them a try.​ I am very impressed not only by the quality of the alterations but with the detail of the fitter. In addition to pant and sleeve lengths,​ we also took in the pants a bit and did some work on the blades of the jacket. We also opened the buttonholes on the sleeves, which meant that they had to adjust the length from the shoulder. So, it wasn't cheap, and probably one-third to 50% higher than my previous tailor. But the suit looks awesome. So I might not take them everything -- but definitely trust them with high-end stuff. read more

I have been a repeat customer at Charlie's during this entire year. I have come in for alterations perhaps 20 times this year. Here are the following types of alterations I have had with success: Shirts - lengthen/shorten sleeve length - taper sleeves and body for slimmer fit - moving buttons on the cuffs to get a tighter fit around the wrist Jackets - lengthen/shorten sleeve length - taper sleeves and waist for slimmer fit - removing the rolling of fabric in the back under the collar - re-installing new shoulder pads - removing divots on the sleeve head near the shoulder Vests - letting out a vest that was too tight Pants - tapering pants - taking in / letting out waist - taking in / letting out seat - lengthen/shorten pant length - making cuffed hems - hemming jeans - removing belt loops and adding suspender buttons Some alterations I have inquired about but have not yet performed: - adding side adjuster tabs on pants - shortening a suit jacket - fixing the bowing of the lapels on the chest (when the lapels don't lay neatly flat on the chest) - turning non-functioning sleeve buttons into functional buttons. The customer service is great: - All of the staff are pleasant and welcoming (especially the manager Elizabeth). They take time to make conversation and make an effort to remember my fashion preferences and also things about my life/work. - I never feel rushed to get in / get out - I never feel pressured to do, or not do, an alteration; they politely give personal opinions and recommendations but ultimately it is me who comfortably makes the final decision without feeling judged. - When I pick up the altered item and didn't turn out to my liking, they have done the second alteration without charge and they don't make me feel bad about it. - I am on their mailing list and receive cash discount coupons. Frequency appears to be once a month or so, more frequently during the big holidays. Once I didn't have any coupons on me but during checkout they looked for one and took $30 off my order. The business space itself is spacious, tidy, and professional. There is a backroom behind the counter that is curtained off, where all the work is done and where every customer's clothing is stored. It is nice not to visually see that aspect of business operations, compared to other tailor shops I've been to where there is too much clutter. There is also a showroom for custom tailoring; I haven't had any custom clothing made by Charlie's yet but as I continue to refresh my wardrobe I imagine that day will come some day soon. I am a satisfied customer and will continue to be a patron of Charlie's. read more

This place is great - very convenient for people working in midtown and great service. Marco has treated me very well, being very reasonable with prices and it feels like he has the customer's interest in mind at all times. One a couple of occasions, he felt that there could be improvements on the work done and recommended that they take another stab at the alterations. He has also recommended not making certain alterations that seemed unnecessary to him, so I am comfortable that he is not just going to tack on unnecessary costs for his customers. I left the rank joint steaming mad and then I looked up and saw the display in the window. I walked in and was greeted by Marco and he made me feel at home. Let me just say it succinctly, Marcos and the team at Charlie's are great. When doing fittings, Marcos is very detail oriented and will take the time to explain what he recommends and does not recommend anything that doesn't need to be done. Alterations are done very professionally done and completed in a timely fashion. They've done many fairly complex alterations for me including reducing the chest and shortening the length of my suit jacket. These guys are the best. I've worked almost exclusively with Marco. I've had one custom suit made by him. I was extremely happy with the excellent tailoring. I decided to give him two of my older suits (both custom) to fix because I wasnt happy with the way they were made. It involved a lot of work: fix the shoulders and the entire fit of the suit, take out the pleats in the pants etc. They did a fantastic job, couldn't be happier. They are not cheap but completely worth it, in the long run, its cheaper because they will get it right the first time or keep working, free of charge, till they do. read more

I decided that I wanted to get a custom liner for a Levi's Trucker Jacket I had purchased so I traveled from Albany to NYC to hit some fabric stores. While down there I took a quick look at local tailor reviews and i thought Charlie's Custom Tailors looked promising. They have a nice shop and I found them to be extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. They gave me a time frame for the work and it was done a few days before the promise date. Due to inclement weather the shop had to close and consider closing a second day but they called to let me know that almost 48 hours ahead of time. I can't tell you how many times I've traveled to find a place closed that knew I was coming for an item so this was very a very welcome gesture. The best part about the whole deal was the work itself they killed it. Its exactly what I wanted and the work is so precise it looks like it was made that way from the start. Made an appointment online to alter my newly-arrived (and too large) Indochino suit. The support reps at Indochino recommended Charlie's. Marco took time to listen to my concerns and desired changes. Then, he efficiently pinned and marked everything. He discussed the cost of the necessary changes and, instead of having me allow him to make the changes, suggested I return the suit so it could be remade without incurring additional expense (as the cost of the changes would exceed the $75 Indochino credit). He provided me updated measurements and even left all the pins in place so the suit can be adjusted to fit perfectly. For all of this help, he charged me nothing.
