I totally stumbled on this place by accident, which is one of the great things about taking random streets in NYC, but I'm sad that I didn't know about it before. There was a Yelp local holiday shop event here tonight and boy was I glad I made it here. It is a bit of a trek Uptown for me, but somehow, I knew I would not be disappointed. I don't usually find myself in an all men's retail store, but since it is the holidays, I needed to find splendid unique gifts for all the XY specimens in my life. From the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be a good experience. The store caters to the dandy man in your life and well, I have a few of those around... Holiday music playing, beautiful merchandise everywhere, from bow ties to suspenders to sock garters to pocket watches, you will find something for every single debonair and suave man in your life here. Enrique and Matt, the proprietors of the shop, were very knowledgeable, courteous, nice and helpful. They help me find 75% of the gifts I needed! Yea, shopping during the holidays doesn't need to stressful when coming here. I bought their handmade handkerchiefs a couple of time, and although it seemed to be priced a bit high initially, they use fabrics that are really lasting and wouldn't get decolorized or anything. The location they chose is unfortunately off the beaten path, but the cozy little store is filled with unique, handsome, largely hand-made in NYC/USA accessories that are all pretty reasonably priced. This is the sort of place that one can really only find in New York. The guys (couple?) who run it are very knowledgable, friendly, pleasant and themselves quite fashionable. The guys who run the place f'n rule and kudos to Ruggy for putting together the event to highlight Fine and Dandy. There's only a few places like this around the city and the selection here skews more toward their own label as opposed to other people's merchandise. With that in mind it's a tightly curated selection of tasteful grooming products and other haberdashery. So if you are just out of university and are still unashamedly sporting the douchy backwards baseball cap plus cargo shorts/sweat pants plus the stupid Dave Matthews Band shirt and wondering why the members of the opposite sex (or the same sex) never approach you to roll around with them, this place is a good place to start the process of de-dorking yourself. And even if you are too cheap to really invest in your personal appearance, as most of the stuff here seems to be $29, the damage to the wallet will be lighter vs going to the department stores which won't have nearly the array of cool stuff to be found here. Not many other places where you can stop in and get a real metal cigarette case, a bowler hat, a whiskey flask, and a walking stick with a hidden compass (would have been more dramatic of it had a knife). I stopped into this shot on a whim, at a friend's recommendation while wandering Hell's Kitchen, and it was the best thing I did on my trip to NYC! This tiny shop, tucked into a garden-level store space was like stepping back in time to an era of dapperly dressed academics and men about town, with floor to ceiling ties, hats, suspenders, pocket square, accessories and more! I was the only patron in the shop (it was prime brunching hour, so everyone in the area seemed occupied with mimosas and gossip,) and the owner offered me beer or seltzer to help my browsing along. Helpful and attentive, without being too obtrusive or slick in his sales pitch, he helped me pick out two beautiful bowties, custom-made for the store (#exclusive). He even showed me alternative ways to tie my ties! The attention to detail even went so far as a hand-written receipt - the while vibe was awesome. 5 Stars is not enough! This store is an absolute gem, packed with accessories from head to toe. It is a tiny store, but packed with super cool vintage and new items, as well as owners who are just the most genuine and cool guys you'll meet. I "needed" some last minute ideas for Kentucky Derby accessories and I wish I had just started with them for the whole outfit. I ended up with a great silk handkerchief but I barely scratched the surface of all the cool belts, hats, ties, vests, cufflinks, and other great pieces.
