Great place with a friendly owner who has the cutest little dog. Lots of clothing items are available in this shop as well! Like the owner has responded to everyone's comments, this place is not a run of the mill thrift shop, but rather a vintage boutique so things aren't going to be at a thrift shop price and that is okay. I personally couldn't fork out money for any of the vintage pieces, but I did buy a cute pair of vintage inspired sunglasses from here for about $20 if I remember the price correctly. At the least, give the store a try to see if there's anything you want to buy. It's fun to look around and see all the celebrities that the owner has pictures with on the walls. read more

This is not a "thrift store." It is a vintage shop -- one of the best-curated I've ever seen. It is not a place to get bargains, but it does have an incredible selection of amazing pieces -- and great value, if you're careful. On a recent trip I scored an incredible sequined evening jacket, still new with tags, for $175. Was it cheap? No. But it was a good deal for the quality. I had spent a lot of time planning out what vintage stores to see when I visited NYC, but nothing panned out. When my partner and I decided to visit Greenwich Village, I took a look around to see if there were any vintage stores, and lo and behold, I found this gem. The selection was AMAZING. It was shocking to find that a lot of the vintage dresses were sized above an 8. Nearly everything I picked out fit me (a size 12ish), which is a genuine rarity in a vintage store. The owner had the cutest dog and was incredibly kind and helpful trying to find my partner some shirts and pants. I don't expect a genuine vintage store to be "cheap", you can go to Goodwill or other places if you want to find pieces being sold for the pennies. But it's also not incredibly expensive. My dresses ranged from 90-120$, and the two piece Victorian style set was $200. To me, that's an incredible steal for the quality of pieces you're getting. I can't stop raving about this store and the next time I visit NYC I can't wait to visit again. read more

I love this store- this owner is kind and attentive, his dog is adorable, and I can tell he really put thought into the pieces he collects. HOWEVER- some of the prices I disagree with. There are many items I saw were the prices were justified- custom jackets, designer clothes- those I can understand. But some of the prices were ridiculous for a vintage store. $150 for a beautiful vintage dress. I could understand $80 or so but $160? I find that a bit ridiculous. If I had more money, I would go to this place every day and just wipe the whole place out clean. But for regular thrifters like myself, this isn't really the place to go. read more

I found this via Yelp knowing that it would probably be too expensive for me to buy anything. I just wanted to walk in and see what the place had, and man I am glad I did. The staff was super friendly and probably caught on to the fact that I was just window shopping. There were some spectacular vintage pieces and honestly if I wasn't so broke I could have made a sizable dent. A recent Saturday was windier than expected, making us wish we'd worn just one more layer. So my husband grabbed an Italian army jacket for $20 (They also had a beadazzled Syracuse sweatshirt, but I passed). The army jackets were great - some of them had Italian nametags, and some were ripped (Like they'd been through a real war!). My husband spent the rest of the day warmer and more comfortable (if slightly fascist-looking). Best part of the store, though, was its adorable canine mascot, who let us pet his tummy and totally made our day (See photo). read more

On the one hand, the have a great selection of boots and seasonal thrift clothes but on the other hand it is WAY overpriced for the quality. These are secondhand clothes...a t-shirt dress should not cost $50 it should cost $5. And where does that 100% profit go? To a homeless shelter? To a charity? Nope, into Hamlet's big 'ol pockets. I've walked in this store and out again 2 minutes later so many times, I don't even know why I bother. If and I mean IF I find something that smells mothy but is still cute, I don't want to shell over the same amount I could be paying for the same item new. I'd also like to note that they do not carry vintage designer duds, think more along the lines of 1995 Gap and the Limited. If you want to spend on vintage go to Tokio 7 and shell out for the real stuff...or on the other hand scoop up cheapo secondhand at the Goodwill. Hamlet is very nice and friendly store owner. He couldn't exactly help me find any shorts because he hasn't exactly moved everything in the new store but he found me a really cool, vintage military field uniform. I wasn't really looking for a military jacket since spring was arriving, but every now and then there's cold spring. At first he picked out a lot of old german uniforms and I wasn't very impressed. He insisted on me trying his recommendations and on his last recommendation, I finally found something awesome. I've always wanted a military jacket in the corner of my mind and this one impressed. It was an old french uniform from the 80s apparently and the fit was just perfect from top to bottom, chest and arms. I speculated a lot of his other clothing he had to offer and I can definitely say you might find something awesome suitable to be vintage like a denim jacket, graphic t-shirt. You can definitely be surprised because Hamlet has a good taste of vintage. read more

Always been an enthusiast for anything vintage, I spotted this place after wandering around after work. I first walked in and the two store owners didn't even acknowledge me. This put a bad taste in my mouth. After getting over that I decided to go through the women's selections. Decent stuff, but overpriced. I was there for over 15 minutes and still was not addressed even after picking out a dress and showing interest in it. No help was being offered by the two gentlemen who seemed more concerned with Facebook than they did their customers. They could've definitely sold me for this $75 dress too. Came to this place twice. First time by myself and second time with a friend. Both end up having my hands full of shopping bags. Wonderful selection for both men and women's clothes. Hello there, Hamlet's sale rack. Are you doing as well as I am? Well yes, I see that you are. I'll admit the non-sale rack items are too expensive for me, but it doesn't even matter because the sale rack is pretty damn good. I must have tried on half of that rack and had a ton of trouble deciding because I liked it all so much. Hamlet also suggested accessories for me and pretty much put together my entire outfit (which I bought). The skirts were also very nice and there is a good belt and shoe selection. Even if it's marginally busy, there will be someone in the fitting room, of which I think there's only one. So trying things on with other people in the store is a little awkward, especially if you have multiple items. I can't wait for Spring! Dresses, skirts, shoes that aren't boots, here we come! read more

I've been in a few times and have never bought anything, primarily because none of the things I like there ever end up actually fitting me. Overall, it's a great store with both a great men's selection and women's selection (the men's selection is bigger than the woman's selection, I've found). The dresses are of unique styles that you can't really find anywhere else; lots of bright colors that I really wish did fit me because they're so cute. They also have a pretty generous sale section. I find that a lot of the merchandise is more on the trendy end than it is on the vintage end. There's also a lot of "[later decade] does [earlier decade]" (ex, 80s does 40s, 70s does 30s, etc); there's also a lot of merch that's like contemporary vintage remakes, as well. All of this is fine if that's what you're looking for, but when I pay top dollar for a vintage dress, I want the dress to actually be from the time period it's supposed to look like. read more

They had a lot of cute dresses that are supposedly vintage. Granted, they are old, but just because they are old does not mean they are worth $75. However, you'd spend more than $75 at Anthropologie for a dress that looks sort of similar. Really, $75 isn't absurd to spend on a cute, original, dress that fits. However, if you have the patience to look through a generic thrift store..or go to a garage sale...or go to Buffalo Exchange, you could probably find similar dresses for less than $25. read more

I'm usually pretty down on Vintage stores in the City. I mean, I don't like shopping for used clothing at regular retail prices. Nor do I think it's appropriate for someone else to do the digging for me...finding that priceless little thing, under that huge weird thing, is what Vintage shopping is all about.
