I went in looking for a hat for the Kentucky Derby. I asked to see some Boater hats - which they had. The salesman - don't know his name - told me, as I was trying the hats, that it was not the right shape for me. Which was correct. He then picked out a different hat - an upscale blue ecuadorian panama trilby by K. Dorfzaun - and said this is the right one for you. I put it on and it was perfect. Bought it right away. In any case, great experience. The store is a bit of a hole in the wall on Orchard Street, but they have hundreds of great hats (maybe thousands) and my experience here was fast and fantastic. I've really come to appreciate the power of a hat during our hot, steamy summer. One key help in all that is a quality Panama hat. It keeps the sun out of your face, off your ears, and off your nose. We went backward as a civilization when we stopped wearing hats. Anyway, I needed a new Panama. And I give him the hats I like and all of the sudden, he was taken hats in different color, in leather, wool, and etc. I buy 2 and get out right away coz I feel like I want to buy all the hats he was showing me. I went to this store expecting to find a quality, professional hat store. Instead, upon entering the store, the young lady behind the counter couldn't speak English and couldn't help me pick out a hat. A young man entered the store and tried to help. He later admitted that he didn't work there and didn't know much about hats. A few minutes later another young man entered the store and started to help me. I found a hat I liked and noticed there was no price tag. He proceeded to tell me that the hat would be $125.00, non-negotiable. I picked out a Bailey Rielly Summer Braid Teardrop Fedora. I know for a fact that the hat is about $55.00 anywhere else including online. He put the hat away then tried to sell me some cheaper $5.00 costume cap for $50.00, which I found personally insulting. Needless to say, I walked out. I was very disappointed with the level of service and the price-gouging going on in this store. I would not recommend it at all! Avoid at all costs! read more

Run Run Run...Run Away! I truly needed help finding a hat, and was willing to pay for quality and service. I entered the tiny yet well stocked World Hats on Orchard St..they truly have a wonderful selection, and I was so excited to buy a new hat! The young man running the store was reluctant to let me in, along with my 2 friends also hat shopping. The store was empty...no one in sight, totally not busy! We are 3 professional manicured adult women from CT, talk about obvious buyer signals! . I must agree with the other 2 reviews...the young man was so put out by having not only to help us, but answer our general "hat"questions! As we struggled to get the man to sell us a hat....2 older African American Gentlemen walked in asking if they sold Beaver Hats...the 2 men also happened to be wearing nice hats themselves (second missed oppertunity) . The young man flatly said he did not have beaver hats, and pointed to the door. I was so embarrassed by the young mans behavior. The 3 of us, had enough of this obscenely rude individual. We had the look of disgust on our face, as we were about to exit, suddenly he said he would sell me a hat that I self serviced for $300.00! BTW ...it was the very same hat I purchasd a few doors down, for $50.00 dollars. Im sure the owner of this store would be horrified if he knew what this employee was up to. We were walking to the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side when I spied a hat shop. I have a weakness for hats and shoes which cover me from head to toe in glamor. So when I saw a sign that said World Hats I had to see what treasures were stocked in this 2X4 rectangle. We were greeted by the manager Shemul who has been working in the store for 10 years and who was very proud of the quality of the hats sold in the shop. This shop is long and narrow but there are more hats per square foot than you will find in any department store in the City. There were hats everywhere - from floor to ceiling. It was a mad hatters shop for hat addicts. I wanted a hat that would fit my large head. Shemul let me try on some hats to see what would fit. Of course the one size fits all types do not fit. I need a large hat for my big head. He steered me to Kangol, a brand that sizes some of its hats for people that have xlarge, large or small heads. I ended up falling in love with a unisex dyed rabbit hat called the Shavora casual. I have already worn the hat and I love, love, love it. The cost was good as it was $8 less than I saw the online vendors charging for it. The shop primarily stocks mens' hats so my son, after being forced to try on one with ear pieces, decided to break down and buy a warm winter hat. He ended up with the grey Kangol Wool 504 earlap, a great looking hat that is a classic. He was charged a bit more than the Kangol store on Columbus Circle charges. When I called later and told Shemul about the difference, he gave me the same price and refunded the $5 to my charge. Who could ask for more - great service, attractive hats for men and women that fit larger heads and price matching. All in all the perfect purchase on a weekend in NYC. I can't wait to return to find a fedora for my husband as he needs it more than I do to protect his bald head. I don't understand the review from Ray C.(2009) as my experience was so different. Stay away from World Hats. Total RIP off artist. Brought a few hats from them. The price wasn't clearly stated on the hat. When I got to the register is was $400 more than I thought. Paid for the hat took it home and didn't like it. Returned it the next day and they refused to refund me the money. Clerk said we don't take returns. Hat wasn't worn or used. I returned the merchandise less the 12 hours. Fought with CC company to get them to return it. They could've taken it back there was nothing wrong. If I can give NO STARS.. I would! Brought two hats here on our Anniversary. We were so excited about our hats, However when we got home, My husband noticed his hat was alittle big, and wanted to exchange for a smaller hat. With the prices they charge, I definitely never expected a problem. It took a few days to go back so that we can make the exchange, since we live in New Jersey. The salesperson was rude and insisted the hat was worn and refused to make the exchange. I was floored, I could not believe he would make such an accusation.
