So I recently brought a pretty pricey new coat a few months ago but the buttons on it weren't done so with the best sewing job...little by little with my heavy-ish crossbody bag and my active life style all of the threading on 4 buttons undid themselves. I called here in advance and I spoke to a man by the name of Alex. He quoted be $3-5 a button. Okay I figured, I'll head on over. Upon entering this place is kind of a mess and looks like it hasn't seen a clearning supply in years...but whatevs, I'm not living there right, lol. When he examined my coat and the buttons (which have one really simple hole - no 2 or 4 hole hard to sew buttons here folks - I added pictures for visual purposes) he of course quoted me the most - so it was $20 to sew 4 one-holed buttons onto my pretty thin wool coat. That's ridiculous as was his attitude. He exuded warmth and customer service on the phone but in person it was a whole different experience. I decided I'd just sew them on myself so I purchased 3 THREAD STRINGS and a cheapo needle for $5 because I was desperate. I get settled in a nearby park and the thread was way too thick to even enter the needle head. I ended up going to a much CLEANER spot where I was charged $3 a button and it was done quickly on the spot with heavy duty thread. This spot is closer to my office, but the other spot (FANCY DRY CLEANERS & TAILORS - 141 W 35th St #1, New York, NY 10001) is my new go to place for all my tailoring needs. read more

I was in a bind and needed a tuxedo rental same day, I was there at 9am on Friday and Abe took my measurements right away -- I was able to come back later that afternoon to try the tux on and it looked/fit great. Abe also has all the accessories you could need; studs, cuff links, bow ties (both pre-tied or un-tied depending on preference), shoes, cummerbunds, suspenders, vests, etc. Can't recommend Abe enough! *PLEASE READ* I'd like to start by saying I'm not one to post reviews but this experience left me extremely uncomfortable to the point where all women should be aware. I came to this shop requesting an on the spot alteration which Abe, the person I believe to be the owner, was able to accommodate. Abe suggested waiting in the closed off corner with curtains as he worked on my dress. After Abe was finished with the quick alteration (less than 5 minutes), he purposely opened the curtain just enough to see me disrobed to hand over my dress, rather than waiting behind the curtain to let me know he was finished. It's an incredibly disrespectful, creepy and very upsetting experience. I hope another woman never has to experience this unwanted behavior. read more

These guys are lovely! My husband and I had a black tie wedding to attend and needed to rent a tux. We went in and 20 minutes later he was outfitted with a snappy tux (replete with shirt, bowtie, cufflinks and suspenders) for a very reasonable price. If I had known they also did women's clothing alterations I would've brought my dress in for tailoring too. Alex was very nice, didn't try to "sell" or push anything on us. These two brothers can make anything you want, and make it well, and I used to go to them all the time when I lived in Manhattan. I am from Los Angeles, and needed to be measured for a tuxedo for a wedding I'm going to be in later this month in San Diego. I found this place on Yelp, and came in even though there were no reviews yet because it was within 100 yards of where I was sitting when I made my search. This is an old-school, 2nd-floor walk-up shop at the top of a narrow, creaky set of stairs. They were friendly and professional, and did the measurements for $10, which was exactly what I guessed it would cost. This place has been here since the 1940s! It looks like it hasn't been remodeled in about 40 years... but I like the feeling of stepping into a time machine. It reminds me of another old-timer tailor I used to go see on 42nd St when I lived here in the 1980s, but he's long gone now. read more

Guys at Abe's, I am sorry to have to write this review but I tried twice with you and spent alot of money to end up so upset. I have to give this a two star review because in the end I was not only disappointed but actually upset at what they did to the jacket of one of my favorite suits. The jacket was off the rack and needed to be taken in at the waist and the sleeve inseam needed to be adjusted as I had explained it was uncomfortable to move my arms up and down in the jacket . I kept explaining to the guys what I needed (more arm movement) and I thought we had an understanding but after taking the jacket back twice, getting charged twice (I was annoyed that I had to pay to fix a part that was left out) it was a no go. Now the jacket makes a very odd point on top of the shoulder when I move my arm up. Ugh, I loved this suit. Fellas, if you're gonna charge me $165 bucks for alterations, that's fine but PLEASE don't yes me to death then not even get the part that was making me the most uncomfortable right. And if you think you're not able to make the adjustment, just TELL me we could've worked together and formulated a different option. read more

We used them for our rental suits. They got the order right and were patient with me when choosing the color of the tie and pocket squares. They know what they are doing, I had 6 groomsmen not including myself and they got all of the suits ordered and ready for an easy pickup and where able to drop off the day after. This place is amazing! I bought a great wool jacket at a vintage shop in Berlin that I knew would have to be ripped apart and rebuilt in order to fit me. Abe's Tailor Shop was up to the task and did an AMAZING job altering the jacket so it fits me perfectly. They were incredibly friendly and didn't give me any attitude for bringing in a jacket that was clearly way too large for me. I now have a custom-tailored jacket unlike anything anyone else has, and I get compliments on it every time I wear it. Abe's is so old-school that their phone number on their receipt doesn't even have an area code -- because they've been around since the time when everyone in New York was 212! Abe's Tailor Shop is a bit hit and miss. The quality of the service and the price has varied quite markedly depending on literally who greets you when you come. The older of the two men at the store, tends to quote on average about 25% more than the younger guy - unless you call up first by phone and get them to quote you before coming in. I've had shirts altered at this store and also found that the quality of the work greatly depends on who takes the job down. After being quoted ~$50 to get the [midsection and sleeves of] a shirt adjusted, more than the price of the shirt, I stopped coming. To their credit though, they can turn around an item within five working days which is considerably quicker than some midtown shops. But they are not bashful about charging you a pretty penny for their work - I now consider them an option of last resort. read more

Said my clothes would be ready on Monday, they weren't. Said they would then be delivered on Tuesday to my hotel at 10am, they weren't -- had to call at 6:00pm to remind them. Then, after they delivered it, they forgot my laundry and only gave me my dry cleaning! Now I have to deal with getting my laundry. read more

Extremely unprofessional, rude, and majorly over priced. The men that run the shop and the tailor are very unprofessional, rude, and even inappropriate. They lecture their clients and have no patience. There aren't any set prices- they charge what they wish on demand and the prices are very unreasonable. They once charged me $50 to shorten a dress a few inches. They didn't even hem it properly but the workers were so rude I preferred to leave than to have them redo it. read more

I live near San Francisco and came to town for a wedding. My 6 year old son and I needed Tuxedos for Saturday. We arrived on Thursday and they had them sized and ready by Friday. TWO WORDS, RIP OFF! I needed to hem my skirt and my coworker said that she went to Abe's tailor shop, since I work near, I gave it a try. I had this Miu Miu skirt that needed be shortened and Abe charged me $45, just to hem a skirt??? So, I asked why so high? Abe told me he needed to link all the fabric or some sort of bs. So, I thought okay maybe since its a designer and the fabric is a little more difficult he's charging 45 and so I paid and left. The next day I told my coworker that I paid $45 to get my skirt shortened and she was surprised, she actually just picked up a skirt from Abe's that was shortened and told me she only paid $15!!! Something is wrong with that!! Obviously he wanted to charge me more for some reason. NEVER going again! read more
