I recently dropped off a vintage slip dress to Dino and Anna's to get it taken in. I was really nervous because the material is very delicate and I planned on wearing it to my birthday dinner. Anna took in the dress PERFECTLY and I couldn't have been happier. The turnaround was also very fast. I dropped it off on a Friday evening right before closing, and it was ready on the following Tuesday while I was out of town for work. I picked it back up that Friday when I got back, just one day before my dinner, and it was perfection. I'll definitely be taking more pieces to them! I used the REAL Dino & Anna's for over 10 years, they were worth every penny. Recently I drove 50 miles into Montclair from my new location, the name has not changed but the work certainly has. Today I shall be turning down the waistband of a skirt I had measured to be shortened, moving the buttons on a blouse which was supposed to be tapered and regretting my long drive and the $135 I paid for 3 out of 4 poorly done pieces. I desperately needed someone to alter a bridesmaid dress for me that needed a hem, shoulders taken up, and to be let out in the hip area. When I dropped the dress off everything felt a little rushed but I desperately needed the dress altered and they had good reviews. I wish I waited a little bit to see the most recent review because my dress was so badly altered. First, I came to pick it up and it's still extremely tight. They told me I told them not to let it out (why would I do that if it doesn't fit) even though it says on my receipt that it was going to be done. The fit of the dress was making the hem look as if it was 3" higher on one side. I came back the next day to pick up my dress and I'm so angry with myself for not checking more thoroughly. It was still a little snug but it was OK I guess, so I paid and left. I tried it on again at home and I find out they only let out one seam on one layer of the skirt (there are three layers) instead of both, and the hem is still COMPLETELY crooked. It is a total of 3.5" longer on the back right side. In some places the lining underneath is longer than the top layer of fabric. I don't know what I'm going to do and I'm so angry at myself for not checking. I would go back and demand my money back, but I honestly never want to set foot in there again. I will just have to live with paying $135 for added frustration and nothing else. The only positive thing I can say is that the shoulders fit. Be careful if you need an important alteration done here, and always always always check before you leave. read more

This place WAS the BEST! When Anna was actually still the owner. I had been going here for years - perfection! Now new owners have taken over and my experience was terrible. They ruined a dress I purchased recently in Italy and they fought with me that there was nothing wrong with it. It looks terrible and the alteration was very simple. I'm not super picky about tailors but my husband is. So I'm about to go into a super-in-depth analysis of pant hems and tailors... consider yourself warned. We had a huge stack of jeans to get hemmed, and a few pairs of men's slacks. We showed up on a rainy saturday, which as it turns out is the time when most people take a huge stack of clothes to the tailor. Luckily for us, when we arrived, nobody was waiting. After we got there, more folks just kept showing up, with clothes in arms. Anna was nice and tried to get everybody accommodated as quickly as possible. However, where my husband was unhappy was with his slacks. She only pinned one leg -- apparently true tailors measure both legs since most people have one leg that's slightly longer. We also had a bunch of jeans where we wanted to keep the original hem. I've had other tailors keep the original hem on jeans, where they actually took the hem off, then re-attached it after cutting the jean to the proper length. At Dino & Anna's they basically just folded the jean, then sewed it to the proper length, which is the EASIEST way to reattach hems, but the cuff never lies flat when you do it that way. If I wanted them done that way, I would have just sewed them myself. Anyway, the service at Dino & Anna's was courteous, friendly, & speedy. You be the judge how you want your pants hemmed. I won't be taking our pants & jeans there again. read more

I first wrote about Anna two years ago, and since then have used her repeatedly for all sorts of work. She is flawless. She has essential recut my daughter's leather skirt and put it back together, expertly. She does my wife's suits with care and expertise. I even bought a work coat with a defective zipper, which replaced with a "heavy duty" new one in days. Dresses, tops, suits, you name it she does it! And if you go there and she's busy, there's a reason. She's very, very good. read more

I have been utilizing Anna's services for quite some time now but I wasn't compelled to write a review until this last piece she saved for me. Let me just say, Anna is AMAZING. She is truly a gem and her work is just stunning. We've recently moved across the country for my husband's job and I had a dress I was to wear as a bridesmaid in a wedding altered by some lady who claimed she could alter gowns. It was a complete disaster-- the seams were crooked, she cut too much off one side (there was a literal hole in the dress where she just lopped the material off without measurement) and used the scraps to patch up her mistake, the straps were haphazardly placed, the hem was uneven, the dress hung wrong and was lumpy where she decided not to cut and just fold fabric... just a mess!! I couldn't walk down the aisle in that! I had messaged Anna, through Yelp, informing her of the train wreck dress that desperately needed her attention, and asked if she could repair it with only a 3 day turn around (we were arriving into town on Wednesday for the Saturday afternoon wedding). She quickly replied and told me to bring the dress in on Wednesday morning and she would help me out. Anna made the impossible, possible. She is a miracle worker with a sewing machine. The dress looks brand new! She fixed everything, including the patched mistakes and the dress looks fantastic. I'm SO impressed by her work. I felt like I had such an unrealistic job for her given everything that was wrong with the dress but she took it with ease and produced a masterpiece. I swear she would have won Project Runway with the before-and-after product of my dress. Please admire the before and after photos-- I am speechless as to the quality of her work. She is so sweet and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend her to everyone!! read more

I had some simple hems done with new owners and everything was fine. However I would hesitate to bring anything fine here that needs alterations, not being very familiar with the work of the new owners (who should change the store name). read more

Anna is not only a genius, but she can perform miracles, as well! I fell in love with a dress that was perfect for me to wear to my Daughter's Tiki Wedding in California, except, it was about 2 sizes too small! I showed it to Anna (she was referred to me by a friend) with the expectation of being told it was impossible to size it up. Instead, she just smiled and said: Ok! No problem!" I was in shock! When I came back for a fitting, it was absolutely perfect! Not only was the fit perfect, but she maintained the integrity of the dress! Her work was flawless, inside and out! Anna made my wedding dress, and did an AMAZING job! I brought the material, examples of dresses to get inspiration from, and I was completely blown away by the results. Everyone at the wedding asked me who the designer for the dress was! To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect, and even considered ordering a separate reception dress in case I wasn't completely satisfied with the way it turned out, but it was lovely! Anna retired and was the best!!! Hands Down!!! The new owners are not at all fluent in English or tailoring skills. I took two of the same jacket (different colors) to be shortened 2 inches (to reach the hip area). Same (SIMPLE) instruction applied to both jackets. One jacket was fine the other is now a SHRUG!!!
