I got so many compliments on the dress. He tailored it right to my body. He had to leave town Thursday so he gave me a 2 day notice to pick up my dress. It was finished earlier than he said. Ridiculously expensive for low quality work. I needed a bridesmaid hemmed...that's it! The man who did the fitting and took my dress on June 9th quoted me $120 and insisted that I leave a deposit, so I left $60, which was all the cash that I had on me at the time. I knew I was being overcharged but I was very busy and I just wanted to check this off my list. He asked me when I needed the dress back and I told him July 1st (I had plans to travel on July 2nd for the wedding which was July 5th). He said ok and gave me a ticket with my remaining balance ($60) and the date it would be ready. On July 1st, I was tied up at work so I sent my boyfriend to pick up my dress on July 2nd. When my boyfriend got there, the man told him that the dress was not ready!! He said he needed an hour to press the dress. Already having been inconvenienced, my boyfriend returned in an hour and complained that this was unacceptable and the man discounted the price by $15. My boyfriend picked up the dress and we immediately began making our way to South Jersey for the wedding. That night when I tried on the dress, I was mortified to learn that the hem was uneven!! Specifically, the front was so high that my shoes where showing (which I told him I did not want to happen during the fitting) and the back appeared to not have been hemmed at all (there was a long train trailing behind me) which made my dress look much different that the other bridesmaids. Not only that, when I looked at the quality of the work, there were loose strings and lumps of fabric everywhere. I felt completely taken advantage of! This dress was literally so bad that I threw it in the trash after wearing it. I usually donate these types of things to local high schools. I'm not looking for a refund because the damage is done. I just want everyone to know about my experience because I found this business on Yelp. I suggest going somewhere else. read more

So I didn't try on my bridal shower dress until 5 minutes before leaving....i lost weight and it was falling! I was panicked and google showed this place. I called explaining today was my bridal shower and my dress didn't fit. The guy/owner told me to come in... In less than 20 minutes, he added bra cups, brought in my neck and waist measurements....so it fit perfectly!! Also, we had a great conversion on marriage and wedding...what a wonderful guy! I'm reviewing Leyla's because it was Yelp that brought me there in the first place- the high ratings, the satisfied customers, and the good customer service. That was not at all what I experienced. I brought my wife's Marine Corps Marathon finisher shirt (meaning very well earned and irreplaceable) to Leyla's. It is an athletic-type, moisture-wicking material in a mock turtleneck, and I wanted two things: A short black zipper at the front center at the neck line and thumb holes on the sleeves. I brought in another garment that has exactly what I was looking for to show him (Leyla was not there- it was an older man who took the shirt and did the alterations). For starters, he was a bit arrogant and dismissive, and when I was trying to ensure that he knew what I wanted, his tone and attitude were anything but friendly and service oriented. My instincts told me to leave, but the positive reviews kept me there. I asked if he wanted me to leave the other garment there as a guide and he said he did not want me to. When I went back to pick the shirt up, I was shocked. The two things I wanted, a black zipper and thumb holes were both wrong. He put in a red zipper that didn't match the red of the shirt, and there were no thumb holes. Additionally, the stitching around the zipper looked pretty shoddy. When I expressed my complete dissatisfaction at the work and how he neglected to do what I asked, he questioned why I wanted a black zipper, and claimed I said nothing about the thumb holes. His dismissive tone returned. Poor customer relations if you ask me. He claimed he would change the zipper if he could and make the thumb holes, for additional money. When I picked the shirt up again, it was actually worse. This time I took it and left because there was no way he was touching it again. I was really frustrated, angry, and disappointed, but knew that I needed to cool down before explaining why I was so disappointed. I called him about an hour or two later and explained: 1. That I was incredibly dissatisfied with his service and work; 2. Why specifically I was dissatisfied with his work; and 3. That I was going to leave a truthful, yet negative review on Yelp because I used Yelp to find him and thought that the reviews were not reflective of my experience at all. His tone changed dramatically at that point. He offered me a full refund, which I refused. He offered to re-alter the garment, which I absolutely refused. He literally begged me to not post my review or my experience, asking why I want to ruin his business. He sounded desperate and legitimately worried about the impact of the review, and I expect that he will reply here as well. I did do some leg work and went to other tailors afterwards to try to fix this garment, and got a great recommendation from another tailor who said that this sort of thing wasn't his specialty (I wish Leyla's said that). On my way to the final tailor, I stopped back in to Leyla's to show him exactly why I was so disappointed- the poor stitching, the unevenness of neckline with the zipper, the small tears and holes, the miserable excuse for the thumb holes, loosely hand stitched on the seams. I asked him point blank if he was satisfied with the work. He admitted he was not. I asked him why he would let that type of work out of the door, and he couldn't answer me; rather, he offered to fix it for free. I declined. But I wanted to show him that I was not overreacting. While others have had very positive experiences here, I have had the complete opposite, both in service and in product read more

I dropped off 2 cashmere sweaters that had some holes in them that Sam the owner said he could fix them. He gave me a ticket and said to come 12/20/21 to pick them up, I come on the date written on the ticket he said he hasn't even started them yet to come back 12/24/21 to pick them by 4 because afterwards he is leaving on vacation . I came back on 12/24 Christmas Eve the sweaters were not fully fixed with holes still remaining! He said he would fix them and come back 1/3/22 when they reopen. I came on 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 and 1/6. Door is locked lights are out no one knows where he is. I tried calling no option to leave a voicemail. No email option either and no social media. The store next door hasn't seen or heard from him. It is now 1/6/22 and I have no idea where the owner is or what is going on. So UNPROFESSIONAL TO DO THIS TO YOUR CUSTOMERS . read more

Nice, busy shop that does men's and women's alterations. The tailor I worked with - Sam - was professional and clearly on top of his craft. When I went in for my initial appt I didn't have to say a thing about what the dress needed - he already knew. And this was no easy work, I needed cups sewn into the bust (and I am a DDD so this had to be flawless), ruching flattened, straps shortened and a major hem (like 5 inches off the bottom) without disrupting soft pleating. Phew. Got to love bridesmaids dresses... The price seemed marginally high to me though the work was definitely good quality. And my dress was ready a week before when I asked for it to be finished which is also a nice plus. Saturday hours too! read more

The owner Sam is an amazing and awesome person and tailor! I needed to have a suit altered the same day on late notice. I went into Sam's shop and got fitted. I had the sleeves on a suit blazer shortened, the sleeves on my dress shirt shortened, the shoulders of the suit blazer were taken in, the waistline of the pants taken in, and the pants hemmed. Sam was able to do all that work in 1.5 hours! I was able to arrive to my event on time and in a better suit thanks to Sam! Sam has a great eye for suits, and his work is simply amazing! Ridiculously expensive. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to be altered. The dress I brought in cost about $175.. All I needed the owner to do was lift the straps (because they kept falling) and hem the bottom. He suggested to add bra cups so I didn't need to wear a bra. The owner is nice but charged me $150 to do 3 mere small adjustments that should have nowhere cost almost the price of another dress. Even when I went to put the adjusted dress on, there was a noticeable hole, which the owner fixed right away. So truthfully, mutliple people I spoke to told me that it is a ridiculous price to pay. The bride of the wedding I was attending had MULTIPLE fittings and alterations somewhere else and it only cost her $250, but this was at another place. I suggest going somewhere else. read more

I've recently purchased a suit that I thought it fit. However, once Sam told me to try it on, he explained to me that it will require additional alterations in order for the suit to fit proportionally to my body frame. Well, he quoted me a price and explain the break down of the alterations and I agreed. Upon the day I picked up the suit, I've tried it on and well, Sam made it fit like it was a made-to-measure custom suit. It's nice to know that there a tailors who are true to there profession because many tailors claim they are tailors, but in my experience, Sam is knows his craft and I will continue to utilizes his service. read more

I went here for my prom dress alterations and he completely destroyed it. He over charged me, and wouldn't reimburse me when he saw how badly he ruined my dress. Worst experience of my life, almost ruined my whole prom experience. On top of that, he made every alteration to the dress that i asked him NOT to. Horrible place. I called Leyla's with an emergency - a different tailor had nearly ruined a dress with my requested alterations and would not put a slit in my dress as requested. Leyla's not only fixed the botched job from the previous tailor but added the element that I wanted to the dress to make it my own - and he did it all over night! I was in a real bind and Leyla's put me at ease and fully delivered exactly what I wanted. There was even a last minute same day adjustment. I would reccomend to anyone for anything! Unfortunately had a very bad experience at Leyla's. I needed last minute alterations to a custom-made ball gown that did not fit in the top correctly. It was too small. The original tailor was out of town and so I brought it to Leyla's, a tailor that my sister regularly uses. The tailor (Leyla's nephew, Leyla is no longer there as she unfortunately passed away) agreed to help me with my last-minute alterations. He informed me that the top of my dress would have to be remade and agreed to remake it that same day. He sent me out to buy 3 yards of fabric so he could do the work. I got the fabric and returned with it, I put the dress on for a second time and he took all of my measurements. I asked him if it was okay that my sister come to pick up the dress once it's completed and specifically asked him if I should change my hair appointment so I could come back and pick it up myself to ensure that it fit correctly (was heading into hair and makeup for my fancy 35th birthday party). He assured me that he took my measurements and the dress would fit without question. He charged me $460, saying that because it was a rush job this was the fee (he only told me the fee after I ran around picking up fabric and had tried the dress on for a second time). My sister picked up the dress and I put it on as soon as I got back from my hair appointment. Sadly, the dress did not fit at all. The sleeves were far too tight, the shoulders were too tight and I could barely get the top on, let alone actually move in it. I had to wear a backup dress I just happened to have. After spending $460, I was incredibly disappointed and let the tailor know that the dress did not fit and requested at least a partial refund for the money I had spent. He talked over me the entire time, refused to offer me even a partial refund despite had off the dress was in comparison to my measurements and claimed that it wasn't his fault at all that the dress did not fit. I now have to put in a claim via my credit card in order to get even a partial refund of the money spent on a dress that does not fit and that was like a ball gown, so I have no need of it, now that the event has passed. I do not recommend this tailor, especially not for last minute needs where he will certainly take advantage of your desperation, overcharge you and then your dress may not even fit. I am not sure how much experience he has with making dresses, as the top of the dress was so ill-fitting that I have no idea how he could claim to be a dressmaker. read more
