I've frequented this establishment a number of times and ALWAYS enjoy my food . The subs are piled high with freshly sliced cold cuts and the rolls are nice and fresh . I see some people write negative reviews on " the guy behind the counter "... People / customers have to understand he 's a " one man band " . He answers the phone .. makes the subs .. cashes the customer out .. give the guy a break !! If you don't like the fact he chooses not to put up with all the crap employees put a business owner through everyday.. and chooses to work by himself .. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !!! Look at all the reviews for this place that aren't recommended by yelp. Somehow all of the better reviews show up, but the bad ones get burried. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. I always try to support small business, but I have to draw the line here. I work in the area and have stopped by a couple of times on the way to the office to pick up sandwiches. Each time I stop in, the same guy is working the counter. I assume he is the owner. Each time he gives a bit of an attitude because I didn't call my order in ahead of time. Kind of like it's an inconvenience to him to take a to go order. Today, I walked in, and the same guy shouted from behind a cooler "Can I help you?" I said I would like to order three turkey sandwiches. After today I will NEVER eat at this deli EVER AGAIN. I was in the car with my gf and we decided to call and order lunch from Tail Gate... simple right? You would think so. I asked for the Cajun chicken salad, the person on the phone said they were out. Not a problem. So I said "Okay, then can I get the steak salad?" His response was "We aren't actually serving any hot salads at this time" Again not a problem. I often get food from Tail Gate for work. Their food is great! Huge portions and I've never had a problem with the food. They are really lacking in their customer service, which others have noted as well. I always call ahead for the order and because we've had problems before, I make sure to use the menu online, the one that should be the most up to date. Yesterday when I called for my team, there were 2 people that wanted the fish fry. Their website said they had it everyday. When I told him that, he barked back "WE DON'T DO THAT! READ THE MENU!" I told him it said they did online but I knew it was a battle I would lose. I told my co-workers this, and a lady told me a story where she got yelled at on the phone as well. When I went to pick up my order, I saw that same guy actually yell at a guy in the restaurant who was ordering his food. If the deli wasn't so close to where I work, and the food wasn't so good, I absolutely wouldn't go! This place is a hidden gem in Tonawanda. Anyone who knows about it will vouch! The owner is phenomenal. He is always super friendly and really knows how to pack a sandwich to the brim. Yes, you get a lot of food for the price but the quality really isn't anything to write home about. They do nothing to stand out among other places in the area. Their customer service is HORRIBLE. He (the owner) refuses to make hot subs if it's mildly warm out. He becomes visibly upset if you order in-store instead of calling in- even during dead hours. I live about two blocks from this place and decided to check it out a few months ago. I love a good sandwich, and had a brief fantasy that this would become my regular, go-to place. I walked in at 5:15 on a weekday, and was promptly greeted with a curt "we are closed" by a man behind the counter. I was disappointed and a little confused, as the store's "open" sign was on, the hours posted said they were open until 6pm, and he was seemingly engaged in a casual, laughing conversation with another customer at the counter. I tried not to draw any conclusions and came back a few weeks later to the same man giving a seriously poor attitude to another customer trying to place an order.
