The key to a lot of small businesses is the ability to "read the room." It's a life skill I teach my high school students daily. Yes, the owner has a checkered history, but nothing I've ever experienced. All of the negative reviews seem to center around poor planning from the customer's end, at least most of them. Unlike most I did my homework beforehand. I always order ahead of time, make a simple order, no frills etc. The guy is always friendly on the phone and prompt with service. As a matter of fact the very first time maybe 10 years ago I entered as a walk-in while on a walk around the block he couldn't have been any nicer. Since then I've always called ahead and shown up on time. As for the subs themselves, they're incredible. I can see why the guy doesn't want to turn into a Subway- he puts a lot of time and effort to make sure your order is perfect. So. So. So good. The subs are gigantic. Everyone raves over the Turkey Cajun Club, and they are not lying. Premium turkey, precooked but absolutely delicious bacon, and just the right about of spice. The bread is so soft and delicious, and then they toast it. Mmmm... Hubs has tried both the The King Sub (Ham, Turkey, Salami & Roast Beef), and The Queen Sub (Ham, Turkey, Capicola & Roast Beef), as well as the Classic Royal Sub (Mineo & Sapio Sausage, Spicy Margherita Capicola). I had the most delicious sub here today! I wasn't too sure walking in because this place is small and is a strip plaza but it's for sure a hidden gem! Chicken finger was the sub of the day but being a deli I needed to try the cold cuts and I may not ever vary from this option. I went with the Cajun turkey blt because... well bacon for starters and there was a lot of it on there but also why not add some flavor to your turkey that's piled high between a toasted costanzos roll loaded with lots of lettuce tomato and oil! It was messy and perfect just the way I hoped. I split the sub and left full because of how packed these subs are and the prices are really good for what you get. So I am back for a Christmas visit after 3 years away. One who has been gone from the Buffalo area for any stretch of time looks forward to hitting their favorite food spots. Today was one of those days but unlike my other successful visits around town this one came to a screeching halt. I was up early making the rounds and stops I needed to make this day. As I added a stop to my list as I waited for my son to be ready to go I decided I needed a sub from here and was salivating from when I left from outer downtown buffalo. As I drove closer and pulled into the parking lot I was excited to enjoy the best turkey club I have ever had any where. I parked, jumped out of my vehicle and strolled quickly in. I was greeted with what I ordered to which I relied I wanted a Turkey club. Again it was did you call it in? I said no. Have you been here before I said yes but not for like 4 years. It was more like 3 but any ways I was told I needed to call in my order. Now why there couldn't have been an exception or how if I was new waking in there that I would know that I needed to call in an order baffles me. I wonder how many others were left without food because of this. I was told before even entering that this place was like the soup nazi from Senfield. However, quite the contrary. The owner was incredibly pleasant when we walked in. Of course I wasn't here to make friends but to try the subs, which lived up to the hype. I purchased the Turkey Cajun blt and it did not disappoint. It was filled with spiced turkey and bacon. They weren't sad little subs crammed into two paper bags, they were both sliced in half with fresh lettuce, cheese melted on the fingers with toasted buns. I asked for my sub 'hot and sloppy' and they were considerate enough to include a separate container of hot sauce so I could mess it up at my convenience. This is what my colleague in my building experienced when she ordered for our school building: The support staff placed a large order on Wednesday, not only was the order wrong and he charged us for it. I'm not really sure what the hype is all about. Two ways, but let me explain. First of all, the owner wasn't a jerk at all. He was actually quite nice and accommodating. But secondly, it was a sub. The owner of this establishment is in dire need of two things: a yearlong workshop that focuses HEAVILY on basic customer service skills, and a very experienced Doctor that can prescribe a strongly needed bipolar medication.
