I've lived in South San Jose for 3/4 of my life and for a good many years my Dad has been getting my BBQ porkbuns from this bakery since forever. For many years I would get dimsum here as well as a whole Peking Duck (aka Window Duck). When I moved to Oregon 10 years ago I had a serious feeling of home sickness without my normal BBQ Pork Buns and Peking Duck. In March 2025 I rented a car and drove to CA to visit family and friends in San Jose and was able to FINALLY come back to this little bakery. EVERYTHING in San Jose has sadly changed. This little bakery is still the EXACT same as before! I told this story to the granny working the cashier and she told everyone I was here from Oregon while I was paying $50 for bags of buns for home. My favorite was the Scallion Bun - how have I spent all my years coming here and never tried the amazing, savory Scallion Braid Bun?! I bought three and had to keep one in the fridge for a whole year until I perfected my baking skills at home to recreate the same bun. I hardly ever give 1 stars, but this is not okay :-( I took a bite and saw a long curly strand and immediately spit out the shrimp ball. I couldn't continue eating anymore. Be weary of their fried foods. Also, I don't like how there are no receipts and that they verbally tell you how much you owe. For 1 order of shrimp balls (consists of 3 balls) and 1 order of shrimp bean curd (3 rolls), it was over $16! Thats wildly expensive... we should have asked how much each other was, but my dad just wanted to get me something to eat. Anyways, they gave us change but it was 10 cents short. I've been coming to this bakery since the 2010s for their lunch portions. I love that you can get a porridge + 2-3 dim sum items depending on which meal you choose. I always get the century egg porridge with cheong fun, xiu mais, and turnip cake. Their porridge is always delicious with the creamy egg. But the dim sum could be hit or miss. I went early Saturday morning but I think the turnip cake may have been left over from the previous day because it had a sour smell to it this day, which was different from usual. I still ate it and it tasted better than it smelled and had no stomach issues LOL With inflation, it feels bad that my go-to lunch combo went up from $6 to $14 but still good portion size in this economy! Service was quick and efficient. Could be a bit cleaner. More of a take-out spot than a dine-in. I've been going here for a couple of years. It's a tiny place next to a Korean Supermarket in the shopping center at the corner of Kiely and Saratoga Ave. Their shumai is pretty good or used to be. They have a wide range of Dim Sum available till mid-day. The portions are good, most items are under $8 and you get 3 pieces of Dim Sum. The size of each item is quite generous but it seems mostly quantity and not very high quality. It's always busy though and at lunch time, there is a line to get food and the women working there are very efficient. We got shumai, shrimp dumplings, shrimp cresent rolls, bean cake and another shrimp item. There is no place to sit, it is a carry out only place. As if with most places, parking can be tricky especially around meal times. The problem with the food is that it is piping how when you pick up but by the time you get home, it is cold and it does not taste the same when reheated. The items are also very greasy. I came here after Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. I'm so thankful for places like these being open on a holiday so that my family and I can enjoy some great dim sum! This has always been my go to spot for quality dim sum togo. They have a huge election to choose from so you never go wrong. Tai Pan Dim Sum Bakery has all your favorite dim sum options. Everything is oversized, good, and cheaper than going to your favorite Dim Sum restaurant. The dim sum quality is not the best, but acceptable for its price and portion size. My favorite items are the shrimp rice rolls, shrimp and chive dumpling, xiu mai, and har gow. I'm a big fan of steamed BBQ Pork buns but its not my favorite thing here because the bao part is very doughy and there is not enough filling for me. Pro-Tip - Bring your own insulated cooler bag to keep your dim sum hot when transporting it home. Nobody wants to eat cold dim sum! Lines can be long, but service is good and the line moves fast. Har gow was good with good dough to filling ratio. The dumpling shell was soft but still has a bite to it. Not soggy nor too thick. The shrimp paste filling is not like what you would get from a sit down dim sum restaurant with actual little pieces of shrimp but still tasty. Each order comes with 3 pieces. The Rice Noodles Sheets had 2 pieces of shrimp in it. Each order comes with 2 sheets. The Rice Noodle sheet is on a thicker side. It came with the sweet soy sauce dip. This was just ok. Egg custards were good. Good size and reasonably priced. The tart shell was made of flaky dough which I like. The egg custard itself was not too sweet. They have a buy 5 get 1 free deal. In the same store there's another counter that serves roat pork, roast duck and chasiu pork but I didn't try them this time. They seemed to have regular customers because the staff seemed to know the customers that were coming in and what they order and they were having long conversations with each other. Be cautious when ordering food at this dim sum place. This was my first visit, and I knew exactly what I wanted to order -- a hot dog bun. Unfortunately, the server gave me a green onion bun instead. For years, this location was our go-to spot for the bbq pork, soy sauce, chicken, and classic dimsum dishes. And it seems it is still a go-to for many people because lines here can get pretty long, especially on the weekends. For efficiency, there's two separate lines in front of the two separate doors, 1) dim sum only, 2) bbq only. What happens if you want both? The quality of the food just isn't the same anymore. This place is a dimsum to-go place. I usually come here early in the morning when it opens and theres a line forming already. The egg tart is always so flaky and the century egg congee always gets finished by the family. Their steamed buns are also great (they even sell bags of buns you can go steam at home to eat). All their dimsum is pretty good. When we come in the morning everything is hot and fresh. I go here for the roast pork, but will no longer be returning. This place has cheated me as a customer at least 3 times now. When selecting roast pork, i typically always choose the rib section when it's available. The guy behind the counter chopping the pork showed me the piece i would get and even measured it on the scale. When they go to chop it up behind the counter, they swap out the piece i choose for less desirable parts of the pig. This sort of business practice should not be condoned. I am spoiled by the dim sum take out places in San Francisco and Oakland, and nothing in Sacramento compares. Compared to the best of those, this is only a 2 or 1.5. Then again, the few take out options in Sacramento provide limited choices. So, even among the Sacramento options, Tai pan is probably just average. The dim sum is not cooked fresh to order, but is made in a batch and sold throughout the day. This is typical for take out dim sum places. The key is turnover. If the product sells fast, new batches are brought out frequently. If the product does not sell, the batch could sit out all day, waiting to be sold. With that in mind, if you go, go early and get them while they are fresher. One last point, some take out dim sum places keep their har gow, situ mai and other dumplings and steamed baos fresh by keeping them in steaming bamboo baskets. This is rarely done iin Sacramento, Tai Pan is no different. read more

It's a very easy option for take out dim sum to bring back home to family. I definitely recommend coming earlier in the day versus later because things are always made in the morning and super fresh. Typically when I come I only pay in cash. Customers here usually order in Vietnamese or Cantonese but you can still get by with ordering in English without any issues. When i'm feeling under the weather I really liked getting their fish porridge combo meal. For regular days I really like their chinese turnip cake (lo bak go) , steamed sticky rice (lo mai gai), yellow egg tarts (dan tat), and fried taro puffs (wu gok). To me, this is a typical local chinese dim sum to go place. People mainly come here for convenience and quantity, the portions are pretty big! read more

It's the shimp wraps in rice paper I believe. Delicious dim sum. Garlic chive dumplings are to die for. Pork sui mai are ok. The steamed bums either egg and Chinese sausage are ginormous. Good enough to share with four people. They have a BBQ place next to the dim sum take out. A long line about a 15-20 wait. I bought a duck which everyone was in line for too. Will update one I try the duck tonight for dinner. read more

This is the Panda Express for dim sum except there's no place to sit and eat the stuff. Since we're in the middle of a pandemic, there's a line that forms to enter so make sure you HAVE CASH before lining up or you would be wasting 30-40 minutes of your life daydreaming of dim sum that you can't take home. An order is typically $5 for 3 pcs. One of my favorites is the deep fried shrimp dumplings that is pretty legit. What I really come here for is the red bean mochi. So soft and yummy. Another treasure here is the egg custard which are $1 each or buy 5 and get 1 free. Of course it's no where as good as Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown but then again this is SJ and you get the convenience of a parking lot. There's a separate line for roast duck and BBQ Pork so bring a friend if you want some of that too. Their bakery side sucks so I stopped going there years ago. This review is not about that side. Their butcher side usually is decent (despite always being dirty looking) but that doesn't scare me too much cause I was raised eating at establishments like these but today was kinda the last straw when I ordered a lb of roasted pork and received still raw/bleeding pork . To top that , skin was not prepped well so their was still hair on it which if you know .. the crunchy skin on roasted pork is the best part but we couldn't eat it. Pictures is the blood in the pork. We ended up not eating it with baguette as intended cause the blood freaked us out and just cooking it and adding it into a noodle dish the next day but was still let down because there was lots of gristle. Before I start this review, I'm Chinese so I've had a lot of dim sum. I would rate this a solid 3.5 stars, but there's no half star button so rounded to 4. This is one of the better take out Dim sum places in San Jose. Price is very reasonable. You don't come here for dine in, it's not the cleanest and they have only a few tables to sit. In all fairness, I've had better take out dim sum in San Francisco but in San Jose, there's limited options. The ladies at the counter aren't the friendliest so don't expect them to smile. Looking for some cheap decent dim sum?! TP Dim sum is the place to be. They have several locations and they all are the same. The quality is the same regardless of the location. Not much to complain about since the prices are so cheap. Sure, there's always a long line and the food isn't the best, but that's the best you can get for a fast paced togo dim sum bakery! They have a pretty extensive menu. Dim sum, buns, porridge, rice plates, bbq meats, fun chow, noodles, and other pastries. Like other reviews, there buns are a bit thick and the insides is a bit on the dry side, esp the bbq pork. Not the best I've had. I typically come for shiu mai, fried shrimp balls, and custard buns!
