Crowded and loud but this is the norm in a Chinese bakery especially smack dab in middle of Flushing. Service is quick however overall not very hygienic when not a single person use the tongs provided to grab goods but use their hands, some I even see picking at the bread then putting them back. A lady right after me was basically rummaging through the bread selections both hands sorting out her desired ones. Though the baked goods were fresh and warm, I find it hard to return. There are countless bakeries in the area that is of the same quality yet simply more hygienic conscious.

I ve been coming here for decades; love the mini eggnog here -- But recently the customer service is honestly terrible. There's no system for the line at all. One person comes in with ten family members and suddenly they're all crowding the counter and placing separate orders -- it's chaotic, especially during the busy morning rush. There were about 5-6 staff members working, but none of them seemed to be managing the flow. No one was directing customers, and it felt disorganized. At one point, they even cut off the line or spoke in Chinese to let others jump ahead, which was really frustrating. I eventually gave up and walked over to Rainbow Bakery just a block away -- only two staff members there, but the line was clear and manageable. Taipan seriously needs a floor manager or at least some sort of system to keep things fair and efficient.

Classic Egg Tarts and a Green Tea Egg Tart
Generous Y.

Don't let the ratings deceive you, they're just gatekeeping the egg tarts. Not speaking on anything else. Large and generous fillings while not being dry. However, each tart was $2.50. Cash only and a box is only available for orders of 6 (so we added one extra). Classic Egg Tart - creamy and sweet, very delightful. Crust is thin enough and isn't dry. Overall smooth and light. My brother says they're up in his top 5 or so. I thought they were great but not can't confidently rank. Green Tea Egg Tart - unique, I'd say this is the mild equivalent of the classic. Best for your parents who might be more sensitive to sweetness or just prefer the simple things. Not super strong, but the green tea ingredients reduce the amount of sweetness as a nice counterbalance.

This is your standard, no-frills Chinese bakery. I came here for an egg tart, and it's very standard - come in, order what you want, and sit down to eat. I liked that they have space to sit. I didn't order any buns and just got the egg tart this time, but would come back in the future to try some more. It's self service here.

Tai Pan Bakery has been a long standing bakery on Main street for many years. From bakery food varieties such as egg tarts, Sponge cakes, roast pork buns, neopolitan cakes, fruit cakes, drinks, and more. There's something for everyone. Portuguese egg tarts are what my husband loves to have when he stops by Tai Pan bakery. He has said before, this is the only bakery he's seen where the egg tarts are oval shaped, not circle. More egg is a great thing. Whether you stop by for a quick bite or buy a variety of different baked goods to bring home - check out Tai Pan bakery. Cash only. Parking along main street is tricky so becareful and read street signs. Walking is recommended, park your car in Skyview Mall (a bit of a walk, but worth it compared to the other overpriced lots).

The watermelon milk shake was excellent and sufficient sweetness; easy to drink as it was quite smooth.

I have been coming to this bakery since I was a kid. My mom will only order her fresh chestnut-filling birthday cake here. I come for the Portuguese egg custard. Is delicious. The service is fast

I was in the neighborhood of Main Street in Flushing in Queens when I remembered a place where I could sit, have a delicious percolated coffee and a desert. Tai Pan is the Peter Pan of deserts in my opinion. There are a whole slu of other coffee shops in the area just not as many tables for patrons to have a seat. I did think about Starbucks just down the street but sometimes big name brands can be over rated and I just wanted something simple without all the hype. Perculator coffee will always taste better than coffee pot any day. Their coffee is smooth, tasty, and oh boy HOT which means it lasts longer to sip down without it getting cold. I had a Medium coffee and a lemon pastry filling all for $5.25. I really wasn't expecting the size of the pastry which was huge soft, gushing with lemon filling. PARKING: There are two parking lots in the area circled in yellow in one of my posted pictures. The red circle is Tai Pan Bakery. Both require a payment the larger one will cost more but have way more spaces, the smaller one is ALWAYS PACKED and tough to get a spot. I would highly recommend just parking your car on the outskirts of flushing in a residential area and take a nearby bus. Something I do often when I come out this way. BATHROOM(S): There is only "ONE" for both men and women but you have to ask for the key behind the counter. This is Queens remember?, people can just walk in off the street and think they are entitled to pee. Side Note: *I wasn't handed a sales receipt, perhaps she forgot? *The establishment could use a few more tables and chairs in my opinion. They only had 7. If your out this way come check them out and tell them the Guru sent you *The Review Guru Long Island NY

This is my family's go to place for the classic fruit cake that your Chinese parents like because it is "not too sweet." Their fruit cakes are spongey and my Chinese parents approved I've never tried their other pastries so I don't know if they are any good.

Excellent bakery with a long history. Been servicing the area since I was a little kid. Still the best Chinese bakery even with all the newcomers. Seating is impossible to get unless you hover over the tables for more than 10 minutes. Very crowded with locals and tourists even on weekdays. You would see people from far away ordering a ton of stuff for the long trip home on a regular basis.

Red bean buns are my go to since they're vegan, and this one did not disappoint!! I ordered the matcha red bean bun and it was delicious! The sweetness of the red bean with the earthy flavor of the matcha was divine. You can also tell that these are fresh because of the warmth and fluffiness! Like most Chinese bakeries, you have tongs and a tray, and pick your own pastries. The checkout went quick since it wasn't too busy. The staff seemed knowledgeable and helpful to the patrons that needed assistance. The layout is cute and convenient. There isn't seating, but there is a countertop by the window that you can eat at. Overall, I really love this bakery and look forward to returning!

There's a lot of bakeries who have basic or plain savory breads and a lot more sweet ones. I prefer savory over sweet so this was a nice stop for me. Not sure if it was worth the price compared to going to a nearby food stall, but it was enough to hold me over a couple of hours in the morning. It can get packed and busy in here so it's really more of a grab and go type of bakery.
