It's the first night of Tier 3 COVID limits, so of course everywhere was busy. In search of a good sushi spot that didn't have an hour long wait, decided to search Yelp for nearby sushi spots. To my delight, we found Tadashi, authentic Japanese Cuisine. Upon entering, tables were spread out, employees seen to wipe down chairs & table after every use, and proper covid guidelines in place. Service was quick! Our cups were always full and waiter always checked up on us. Now time for the food. I thought their selection of udon was interesting so decided to go with something different -Ojiya Udon. The egg-rice on top the soup & udon made it an interesting vessel for the soup broth. It soaked up the flavor for sure. This udon also comes with clams, fish cake, chicken, and nice chewy thick udon noodle. Their sushi is also great! Big pieces of nigiri at high quality. First of all, I want to thank Tadashi for being so accommodating and understanding. Due to illnesses, I had to reschedule a birthday dinner for our friend who wanted to celebrate her birthday here... 3x's I had to cancel and reschedule dinner. At the moment, it's preferred that you call to make an reservation. They accept debit/credit cards, and there is lots of parking. They did have a time limit of how long to dine is which was I believe 90 minutes. But the never rushed us, and was very attentive to us. When we went there we got some Orion beer, too rolls that the waitress suggested that had spicy ahi, and hamachi. And we tired there Uni that we're all really tasty. Nowadays, it's so hard to find a Japanese restaurant where you feel like you're getting your money's worth. Gone are the days off Wisteria where you got a lot of quality food along with good 'ol local kine service. Well look no further. Just check out Tadashi's in Pearl Kai. My go to is their salmon shioyaki teishoku. You get a huge piece of salmon, unlimited rice (for you local people not worried about carbs), tsukemono, miso soup, and soba. In addition to that, since I've been eating there for years, the owner throws in a salmon tempura salad . All of this for $20. Even better is that I'm a picky guy when it comes to how my salmon is cooked and they are always on point! Back in the day, Wisteria was my go to Japanese restaurant but luckily, Tadashi's made it through COVID and are still going strong. Very generous portions, super fresh seafood, top notch quality, and excellent customer service. They also have a sushi bar to go along with their extensive menu. We shared the Tadashi Roll (good), Agedashi Tofu (yum), Soft Shell Crab Salad (tasty dressing!), and Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura (great). The tempura came with eggplant, kabocha, and green bean. The batter was light and crisp. Overall, I liked this spacious place with cozy feel. The wait staff were so friendly - I felt like I knew them from somewhere else! Stumbled upon this place at the Pearl Kai shopping center looking for a new place to try for lunch. The restaurant looked really clean inside and they had a sanitation section right when you walk in. I ordered the New York steak teishoku for takeout since I was on a lunch break from work. It was fast and only took 10-12 minutes to get my order Food was basic. Agreed with the previous posts that you could do worse than this place and you could do better for Japanese food. It wasn't horrible, it wasn't break da mouth ono either. It was just good. Arrived pretty early for dinner at around 5 pm and we were the only patrons which was nice. Any seat available in the house. The server advised us right away of the allowed seating time of 90 minutes. When you are talking and having a good time it's amazing how quickly 90 minutes will fly by which was the case for my friend and I but no biggie. We ordered the hamachi Kama (MP) Shokado Bento (48). Hamachi came out with 3 massive pieces of the collar and a yummy ponzu sauce. My cuts of fish had tons of meat and couldn't even finish it all (very rare for me) Shokado bento had a nice mixed selection and I would highly recommend if you wanna have a sample of a few different items. This bento had shrimp and veggie tempura, miso butterfish, sashimi of hamachi and ahi, salmon sushi roll, edamame and rice. My friend had a hard time finishing this also. Both meals came with some accompaniments takuan, miso soup, and some seaweed dish. As the night progressed it did get pretty packed so I would recommend coming at an early time. They have an array of beer, wine and sake selections. Kirin is my typical choice when I go to a sushi bar or even Asahi. Tonight I had Kirin. Service was great, checking on us and clearing of dishes and super friendly staff. Will be back to give the actual sushi a go. Restaurant is located in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center near Curry House and Kuru Kuru sushi. There is lots of parking and the restaurant is somewhat big so its easy to get seated within a decent amount of time. My hubby loves the butterfish here, serving size is also generous. Solid neighborhood family restaurant. Major upsides: Generously spaced tables. Really ups comfort factor when you're not squeezed in close to others. Nice quick service. Tsukemono nothing special but always end up eating it all. Minor downsides: Overcooked salmon shioyaki, very dry and not much charred taste. Plus the quality of their rice is not the best. She also enjoys agedashi tofu. Perfectly fried with a delicious sauce. The crab salad is another favorite. A salad of mixed greens with a soft shelled crab which is lightly fried and sweet riped tomato slice, cucumber and wun tun chips. Served with a tasty dressing. Moved here recently and am always on the prowl for good Japanese food, so the bf and I tried this place. We shared a rainbow roll and spicy mayo scallop nigiri (which was really good), and I got the butterfish teishoku for my entree. The butterfish was a nice portion and delicious, but my favorite part was the great tsukemono choices that came with the meal, and soba! I love soba and not many restaurants include it as part of the teishoku - yum! The only downside is this place was a little pricey, but we will definitely be back again :) read more

So yum!! One of the better sushi places on this side of the island. This place is always crowded though so go on an off hour, early when it opens or call for reservations! I almost always get the chirashi. I think it's close to $30 but the fish is ample and so fresh and delicious! My son ordered ikura and tobiko and they were nice to make them into handrolls instead of nigiri style. I used to always get one of the shave ice desserts but the last time we went, they didn't have any. Disappointing but that's ok. Save calories. Located in the Pearl Kai shopping center. We've come here multiple times before and my fiance and I feel like the quality of the food has gone down a little. I think their sushi rolls are always delicious, we got spicy ahi again. But my tempura was a bit soggy and just didn't have the normal crunch that other places have (for cheaper). Their tonkatsu was okay, a little too salty and just average. I guess after going to other more authentic tonkatsu places (in Hawaii), no place can compare but Japan. Their tsukemono is always good, but I'm not sure if they make their own since the purple one taste similar to one they sell at Marukai. Tried this place for the first time to celebrate a birthday. They take your temperature at the front door. There was a lot of parking even on a busy day. Went for dinner. I would say everything tasted really good. The only reason I give this a four star was my steak felt like it was a bad piece as there was too much rubbery fat. The overall steak was cook well, but the amount of rubbery fat on the steak made it a small slice. The veggies, salad and tempura were cook good. My favorite dish was the karaage chicken. Seriously, as many times as I've been here, I've never written a review? Was here last night after a major sushi fail from the new place a few doors up and we really wanted to enjoy some quality offerings. Ok, let's pay the bill and dance over to Tadashi, we know the sushi is good, service is good and yep, they serve ice cold beer and sake. Sushi last night consisted of Chutoro, thick slices of oily yumminess, Uni with Quail egg, my absolute silky favorite and Ikura, salty eggs popping all over my mouth. Sitting at the sushi bar, the owner Curtis, always blesses the occupants with an appetizer of tempura salmon tossed with paper thin Japanese cucumbers in a sweet and spicy sauce (think Thai sauce). Tadashi Restaurant is a family favorite for lunch and dinner. My youngest 6', 15 year old grandson is known as "Butterfish Boy" there as whether lunch or dinner he always has the Miso Butterfish which IMHO is one of the best on this island. I've had the Tempura dishes, both appetizer and entree, and it's very good with a great variety. Soups are outstanding, fish dishes very good, and I understand the sushi rolls are outstanding but I can't attest to that as I'm a nigiri or sashimi fan. I've twice ordered the sashimi boat....impressive, fresh, incredible and fun to have it delivered. Last night I watched Curtis prepare live lobsters for two guests, haven't done that and probably won't but he definately knows his stuff. This is a family run business and the wife and son are on the staff. Reservations are definately needed on Fridays and Saturdays for dinner. There is no take out on Friday and the restaurant gets very busy during the dinner hour. Last night, Wednesday, it was nearly full. We sat at the last three spots at the sushi bar and there was one table still open. If you're a regular, Curtis will even make a reservation at the Sushi bar. Parking is in the Pearl Kai shopping center lot. No kids under five, no booster or car seats or strollers at the sushi bar. They serve beer, both domestic and foreign, have a fairly over priced sake offering and there is always green tea or sodas. If you are longing for fresh, ample cuts, variety in your sushi, sashimi and Japanese food, this is a place for you. read more

Though it's in the shopping complex, I felt it was pretty tough to find. Borderline hole in the wall if you ask me. Upon entering, there were less seats than expected so that was definitely a plus being that it's considering Social distancing. The service overall was phenomenal and the food didn't disappoint. It carried a welcome home feel that you would normally find in family owned businesses. The food came out fast which was impressive. Felt like my meal ticket was the only one on the line. We ordered sushi, poke bowls, fried chicken, etc. the prices were a bit on the higher end but was worth it considering the quality of the food. They are also baby/children conscious. So if you got kids, then this might be a good place to take them if you're worried about crying and bringing attention to yourself. We've been to Tadashi a few times already. We've always had good experiences. So I can confidently say, you won't be disappointed. It's best to call ahead and make a reservation! They do have limited seating. But they are pretty accommodating. They even took us in yesterday when I called the day of, right when they opened for dinner. Last night, they only had one sushi chef working the night(usually it's at least two), so we were given a heads up by our waitress that the rest of the restaurant ordered sushi and our order might take a while. We didn't mind, because we came just for the sushi. Roughly a 25-27 minutes wait for our first order to come in. Our following orders came faster maybe about 10-15 minutes. We always order a good amount of sushi each time, so the timing is reasonable. Through dinner, we were checked on for water, tea and if we wanted to order more. We got full pretty fast. The nigiris were big and the hand rolls were filling. For two people our bill came out to $166. All sushi. We always enjoy our time there. read more

This is our favorite sushi spot we've been to on island yet! Not only was the service speedy, friendly and great, but the rolls were absolutely delicious. I recommend the Hawaii Five-O and the rainbow roll. We also had a fried chicken appetizer that was great, too. We had multiple people check in on us throughout the meal and the rolls came out really quick. Additionally, the place was bright, clean and very welcoming.
